The Ising one-dimensional (1D) chain with spin $S=1/2$ and magnetoelastic interactions is studied with the lattice contribution included in the form of elastic interaction and thermal vibrations simultaneously taken into account. The magnetic energy term and the elastic (static) energy term based on the Morse potential are calculated exactly. The vibrational energy is calculated in the Debye approximation, in which the anharmonicity is introduced by the Gr{ü}neisen parameter. The total Gibbs potential, including both the magnetic field, as well as the external force term, is constructed and from its minimum the equation of state is derived.
From the Gibbs energy all the thermodynamic properties are calculated in a self-consistent manner. The comprehensive numerical calculations are performed in a full temperature range, i.e., from zero temperature up to the vicinity of melting. In particular, a role of magneto-elastic coupling is emphasized and examined. The numerical results are illustrated in figures and discussed.
We study magnetoelastic properties of a spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg diamond chain, whose elementary unit cell consists of two decorating Heisenberg spins and one nodal Ising spin. It is assumed that each couple of the decorating atoms including the Heisenberg spins harmonically vibrates perpendicularly to the chain axis, while the nodal atoms involving the Ising spins are placed at rigid positions when ignoring their lattice vibrations. An effect of the magnetoelastic coupling on a ground state and finite-temperature properties is particularly investigated close to a triple coexistence point dep…
Magnetoelastic properties of the spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg model on doubly decorated planar lattices partially amenable to lattice vibrations are examined within the framework of the harmonic approximation and decoration-iteration transformation. It is shown that the mutual interplay between quantum spin fluctuations and local fluctuations of lattice spacings enhances typical quantum features like the quantum reduction of the magnetization in the ground state of the quantum antiferromagnetic phase, while it does not affect the ground-state behaviour of the classical ferromagnetic phase by no m…
The mixed spin-(1/2, 3/2) Ising model on a decorated square lattice, which takes into account lattice vibrations of the spin-3/2 decorating magnetic ions at a quantum-mechanical level under the assumption of a perfect lattice rigidity of the spin-1/2 nodal magnetic ions, is examined via an exact mapping correspondence with the effective spin-1/2 Ising model on a square lattice. Although the considered magnetic structure is in principle unfrustrated due to bipartite nature of a decorated square lattice, the model under investigation may display anomalous spin frustration driven by a magnetoelas…
The mixed spin-1/2 and spin-S Ising model on a decorated planar lattice accounting for lattice vibrations of decorating atoms is treated by making use of the canonical coordinate transformation, the decoration-iteration transformation, and the harmonic approximation. It is shown that the magnetoelastic coupling gives rise to an effective single-ion anisotropy and three-site four-spin interaction, which are responsible for the anomalous spin frustration of the decorating spins in virtue of a competition with the equilibrium nearest-neighbor exchange interaction between the nodal and decorating …
Ising models on a pyrochlore oxide lattice are usually associated with spin ice materials and "magnetic monopoles". Ever more often effects connecting magnetic and elastic degrees of freedom are reported on these and other related frustrated materials. Here we extend a spin-ice Hamiltonian to include coupling between spins and the O$^{-2}$ ions mediating superexchange; we call it the Magnetoelastic Spin Ice model (MeSI). There has been a long search for a model in which monopoles would spontaneously become the building blocks of new ground-states: the MeSI Hamiltonian is such a model. In spite…
Thermodynamic description of a model system with magnetoelastic coupling is presented. The elastic, vibrational, electronic and magnetic energy contributions are taken into account. The long-range RKKY interaction is considered together with the nearest-neighbour direct exchange. The generalized Gibbs potential and the set of equations of state are derived, from which all thermodynamic functions are self-consistently obtained. Thermodynamic properties are calculated numerically for FCC structure for arbitrary external pressure, magnetic field and temperature, and widely discussed. In particula…
In the paper a study of a model magnetoelastic solid system is presented. The system of interest is a mean-field magnet with nearest-neighbour ferromagnetic interactions and the underlying s.c. crystalline lattice with the long-range Morse interatomic potential and the anharmonic Debye model for the lattice vibrations. The influence of the external magnetic field on the thermodynamics is investigated, with special emphasis put on the consequences of the magnetoelastic coupling, introduced by the power-law distance dependence of the magnetic exchange integral. Within the fully self-consistent, …
The thermodynamic and magnetic properties of the mixed spin (1/2-1) hexagonal Ising nanowire (HIN) system with core-shell structure have been presented by means of the effective-field theory (EFT) with correlations. The effects of the physical parameters of the system on thermodynmaic and magnetic properties (magnetizations, susceptibilities, internal energies, and free energies and hysteresis curves) are investigated for both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic case, in detail. One can find that when the temperature increases the hysteresis loop areas decrease and the hysteresis loops disappe…
In this study, the internal energy and the specific heat of the one- dimensional Ising model obtained in the frame of the generalized statistical thermodynamics by Andrade [Physica A175 (1991) 285], have been extended somewhat and compared with the internal energy and the specific heat which have been calculated in the standard statistical thermodynamics.
High temperature modulations, meso-scale interactions and hyperscaling breakdown in Ising models with frustration: some insights from thermodynamic geometry
Calculation of thermodynamic functions of the three-dimensional Ising ferromagnet above and below critical temperature is performed in the approximation of sixfold basis distribution ($ρ^6$ model). Comparison with the results for the $ρ^4$ model indicates that dependence of the thermodynamic functions on the renormalization group parameter $s$ becomes weaker. The optimal interval of the renormalization group parameter values is determined.
We study phase transitions and thermodynamic properties in the two-dimensional antiferromagnetic Ising model with next-nearest-neighbor interaction on a Kagome lattice by Monte Carlo simulations. A histogram data analysis shows that a second order transition occurs in the model. From the analysis of obtained data, we can assume that next-nearest-neighbor ferromagnetic interactions in two-dimensional antiferromagnetic Ising model on a Kagome lattice excite the occurrence of a second order transition and unusual behavior of thermodynamic properties on the temperature dependence.
We numerically compute the temperature dependence of spin structure factor and thermodynamic quantities in the antiferromagnetic quantum Ising model in the pyrochlore lattice. This model exhibits spin disorder ground state with exponentially-decayed spin correlation. We reproduce the temperature dependence of the pinch point structure in the neutron scattering experiment and correct entropy obtained from the measurement of the specific heat.
While the Ising model on the Cayley tree has no spontaneous magnetization at nonzero temperatures in the thermodynamic limit, we show that finite systems of astronomical sizes remain magnetically ordered in a wide temperature range, if the symmetry is broken by fixing an arbitrary single (bulk or surface) spin. We compare the behavior of the finite size magnetization of this model with that of the Ising model on both the Sierpinski Gasket, and the one-dimensional linear chain. This comparison reveals the analogy of the behavior of the present model with the Sierpinski Gasket case.
We show that a nominal temperature can be consistently and uniquely defined everywhere in the phase diagram of large classes of nonequilibrium kinetic Ising spin models. In addition, we confirm the recent proposal that, at critical points, the large-time ``fluctuation-dissipation ratio'' $X_\infty$ is a universal amplitude ratio and find in particular $X_\infty \approx 0.33(2)$ and $X_\infty = 1/2$ for the magnetization in, respectively, the two-dimensional Ising and voter universality classes.
Noisy mean field annealing (NMFA) is an algorithm that mimics a coherent Ising machine (CIM), which is an optical system for solving Ising problems. The NMFA has reproduced the solver performance of the CIM for systems of limited size even though it simplifies the interaction between spins with a mean-field approximation. However, recent experiments observing various thermodynamic quantities have revealed that the CIM can capture the phase transitions of the two-dimensional Ising models that the mean field cannot capture. This situation leads to a fundamental question as to how well the NMFA c…
We derived the thermodynamic curvature of the Ising model on a kagome lattice under the presence of an external magnetic field. The curvature was found to have a singularity at the critical point. We focused on the zero field case to derive thermodynamic curvature and its components near the criticality. According to standard scaling, scalar curvature $R$ behaves as $|β-β_{c}|^{α-2}$ for $α> 0$ where $β$ is the inverse temperature and $α$ is the critical exponent of specific heat. In the model considered here in which $α$ is zero, we found that $R$ behaves as $|β-β_{c}|^{α-1}$.
We verify the finite time fluctuation theorem for a linear Ising chain at its ends in contact with heat reservoirs. Analytic results are derived for a chain consisting of only two spins. The system can be mapped onto a model for particle transport, namely the symmetric exclusion process, in contact with thermal and particle reservoirs. We modify the symmetric exclusion process to represent a thermal engine and reproduce universal features of the efficiency at maximum power.
The spin-1/2 Ising diamond chain in a magnetic field displays a remarkable pseudo-transition whenever it is driven sufficiently close to a ground-state phase boundary between a classical ferrimagnetic phase and a highly degenerate frustrated phase. The pseudo-transition of the spin-1/2 Ising diamond chain relates to intense thermal excitations from a nondegenerate ferrimagnetic ground state to a highly degenerate manifold of excited states with a frustrated character, which are responsible for an anomalous behavior of thermodynamic quantities. Temperature dependences of entropy and specific he…
The spin-1 quantum Ising systems with three-spin interactions on two-dimensional triangular lattices are studied by mean-field method. The thermal variations of order parameters and phase diagrams are investigated in detail. The stable, metastable and unstable branches of the order parameters are obtained. According to the stable conditions at critical point, we find that the systems exhibit tricritical points. With crystal field and biquadratic interactions, the system has rich phase diagrams with single reentrant or double reentrant phase transitions for appropriate ranges of the both parame…
We study dimensional crossover in Ising systems at complex temperatures by comparing three types of system: the infinite isotropic 2D Ising model; the infinite anisotropic 2D Ising model; and Ising ladders with a finite number of legs. In particular we present evidence, from both tensor-network calculations and numerical evaluations based on the exact solution of the model, that the infinite anisotropic 2D Ising model exhibits long-range spatially modulated magnetization in certain regions of the complex-temperature plane. We discuss the physics of the special unitary points that exists in the…
We consider the effects of the magnetic field on the frustrated phase states of the dilute Ising chain, especially, the behavior of the magnetic entropy change and the isentropic dependence of the temperature on the magnetic field, which are the key parameters of the magnetocaloric effect. The found temperature dependences of entropy demonstrate the nonequivalence of frustrated phases in the antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic cases. In the antiferromagnetic case, the nonzero magnetic field at certain parameters causes a charge ordering for nonmagnetic impurities at a half-filling, while in th…
Using the replica-symmetric mean-field theory approach the thermodynamic and retrieval properties of extremely diluted {\it symmetric} $Q$-Ising neural networks are studied. In particular, capacity-gain parameter and capacity-temperature phase diagrams are derived for $Q=3, 4$ and $Q=\infty$. The zero-temperature results are compared with those obtained from a study of the dynamics of the model. Furthermore, the de Almeida-Thouless line is determined. Where appropriate, the difference with other $Q$-Ising architectures is outlined.
We study a stacked triangular lattice Ising model with both intra- and inter-plane antiferromagnetic interactions in a field, by Monte Carlo simulation. We find only one phase transition from a paramagnetic to a partially disordered phase, which is of second order and 3D XY universality class. At low temperatures we identify two highly degenerate phases: at smaller (larger) fields the system shows long-range ordering in the stacking direction (within planes) but not in the planes (stacking direction). Nevertheless, crossovers to these phases do not have a character of conventional phase transi…
Thermodynamic and magnetocaloric properties of geometrically frustrated Ising spin clusters of selected shapes and sizes are studied by exact enumeration. In the ground state the magnetization and the entropy show step-wise variations with an applied magnetic field. The number of steps, their widths and heights depend on the cluster shape and size. While the character of the magnetization plateau heights is always increasing, the entropy is not necessarily decreasing function of the field, as one would expect. For selected clusters showing some interesting ground-state properties, the calculat…
We analyse the steady state regime of a one dimensional Ising model under a tapping dynamics recently introduced by analogy with the dynamics of mechanically perturbed granular media. The idea that the steady state regime may be described by a flat measure over metastable states of fixed energy is tested by comparing various steady state time averaged quantities in extensive numerical simulations with the corresponding ensemble averages computed analytically with this flat measure. The agreement between the two averages is excellent in all the cases examined, showing that a static approach is …
The generalized mapping transformation technique is used to obtain the exact solution for the transverse Ising model on decorated planar lattices. Within this scheme, the basic thermodynamic quantities are calculated for different planar lattices with arbitrary spins of decorating atoms. The particular attention has been paid to the investigation of the transverse-field effects on magnetic properties of the system under investigation. The most interesting numerical results for the phase diagrams, compensation temperatures and several thermodynamic quantities are discussed in detail for the fer…
Recently, a surprising low-temperature behavior has been revealed in a two-leg ladder Ising model with trimer rungs (Weiguo Yin, arXiv:2006.08921). Motivated by these findings, we study this model from another perspective and demonstrate that the reported observations are related to a critical phenomenon in the standard Ising chain. We also discuss a related curiosity, namely, the emergence of a power-law behavior characterized by quasicritical exponents.
Some strongly frustrated magnets such as the "spin-ice" compounds fail to produce any magnetic order at finite temperatures even in the presence of magnetic field. Still they have very unusual low-temperature thermodynamic properties related to the field-induced ground state transitions. Here we show that general qualitative picture of such peculiar thermodynamics can be obtained in the antiferromagnetic Ising model on the triangular Husimi lattice. The analytical results for this model show magnetic plateaus, entropy spikes, crossing points and peculiarities in magnetic susceptibility and spe…
Two kinds of recursive lattices with the same coordination number but different unit cells (2-D square and 3-D cube) are constructed and the antiferromagnetic Ising model is solved exactly on them to study the stable and metastable states. The Ising model with multi-particle interactions is designed to represent a monatomic system or an alloy. Two solutions of the model exhibit the crystallization of liquid, and the ideal glass transition of supercooled liquid respectively. Based on the solutions, the thermodynamics on both lattices was examined. In particular, the free energy, energy, and ent…
Recently, we developed and implemented the bond propagation algorithm for calculating the partition function and correlation functions of random bond Ising models in two dimensions. The algorithm is the fastest available for calculating these quantities near the percolation threshold. In this paper, we show how to extend the bond propagation algorithm to directly calculate thermodynamic functions by applying the algorithm to derivatives of the partition function, and we derive explicit expressions for this transformation. We also discuss variations of the original bond propagation procedure wi…
The Pair Approximation method is modified in order to describe the systems with geometrical frustration. The Ising antiferromagnet on triangular lattice with selective dilution (Kaya-Berker model) is considered and a self-consistent thermodynamic description of this model is obtained. For this purpose, the Gibbs free-energy as a function of temperature, concentration of magnetic atoms on the selected sublattice, and external magnetic field is derived. In particular, the phase diagram is constructed and a comparison of different methods is presented. The thermodynamic quantities are discussed i…
Thermodynamic properties of a tetramer ferro-ferro-antiferro-antiferromagnetic Ising-Heisenberg bond alternating chain are investigated by the use of an exact mapping transformation technique. Exact results for the magnetization, susceptibility and specific heat in the zero as well as nonzero magnetic field are presented and discussed in detail. The results obtained from the mapping are compared with the relevant experimental data of Cu(3-Clpy)$_2$(N$_3$)$_2$ (3-Clpy=3-Chloropyridine).
We study the spin-1 Ising model with non-local constraints imposed by the Bak-Tang-Wiesenfeld sandpile model of self-organized criticality (SOC). The model is constructed as if the sandpile is being built on a (honeycomb) lattice with Ising interactions. In this way we combine two models that exhibit power-law decay of correlation functions characterized by different exponents. We discuss the model properties through an order parameter and the mean energy per node, as well as the temperature dependence of their fourth-order Binder cumulants. We find (i) a thermodynamic phase transition at a fi…
We discuss the origin of an enigmatic low-temperature behavior of one-dimensional decorated spin systems which was coined the pseudo-transition. Tracing out the decorated parts results in the standard Ising-chain model with temperature-dependent parameters and the unexpected low-temperature behavior of thermodynamic quantities and correlations of the decorated spin chains can be tracked down to the critical point of the standard Ising-chain model at ${\sf H}=0$ and ${\sf T}=0$. We illustrate this perspective using as examples the spin-1/2 Ising-XYZ diamond chain, the coupled spin-electron doub…
The multi-branched Husimi recursive lattice has been extended to a virtual structure with fractional numbers of branches joined on one site. Although the lattice is undrawable in real space, the concept is consistent with regular Husimi lattice. The Ising spins of antiferromagnetic interaction on such a sets of lattices were calculated to check the critical temperatures ($T_{c}$) and ideal glass transition temperatures ($T_{k}$) variation with fractional branch numbers. Besides the similar results of two solutions representing the stable state (crystal) and metastable state (supercooled liquid…
We present a numerical study of the dynamics of the one-dimensional Ising model by applying the large-deviation method to describe ensembles of dynamical trajectories. In this approach trajectories are classified according to a dynamical order parameter and the structure of ensembles of trajectories can be understood from the properties of large-deviation functions, which play the role of dynamical free-energies. We consider both Glauber and Kawasaki dynamics, and also the presence of a magnetic field. For Glauber dynamics in the absence of a field we confirm the analytic predictions of Jack a…
Machine learning is becoming widely used in condensed matter physics. Inspired by the concept of image super-resolution, we propose a method to increase the size of lattice spin configurations using deep convolutional neural networks. Through supervised learning on Monte Carlo (MC) generated spin configurations, we train networks that invert real-space renormalization decimations. We demonstrate that super-resolution can reproduce thermodynamic observables that agree with MC calculations for the one and two-dimensional Ising model at various temperatures. We find that it is possible to predict…
An inhomogeneous random recursive lattice was constructed from the multi-branched Husimi square lattice. The number of repeating units connected on one vertex was randomly set to be 2 or 3 with a quenched ratio $P_2$ or $P_3$ with $P_2+P_3=1$. The model was designed to describe complex thermodynamic systems with variable coordinating neighbors, e.g. the cross-dimensional range around the surface of a bulk materials. Classical ferromagnetic spin-1 Ising model was solved on the lattice to achieve an annealed solution via the local exact calculation technique. The model exhibits distinct spontane…
A metric is introduced on the two dimensional space of parameters describing the Ising model on a Bethe lattice of co-ordination number q. The geometry associated with this metric is analysed and it is shown that the Gaussian curvature diverges at the critical point. For the special case q=2 the curvature reduces to an already known result for the one dimensional Ising model. The Gaussian curvature is also calculated for a general ferro-magnet near its critical point, generalising a previous result for t>0. The general expression near a critical point is compared with the specific case of the …
We consider an exactly solvable version of the quantum spin-1/2 orthogonal-dimer chain with the Heisenberg intra-dimer and Ising inter-dimer couplings. The investigated quantum spin system exhibits at zero temperature fractional plateaux at 1/4 and 1/2 of the saturation magnetization and it has a highly degenerate ground state at critical fields where the magnetization jumps. We study the field dependence of the specific heat at low temperature. The lattice-gas description is formulated in a vicinity of critical fields to explain the low-temperature behaviour of specific heat.
We consider the asymptotic state after a sudden quench of the magnetic field in the transverse field quantum Ising chain starting from excited states of the pre-quench Hamiltonian. We compute the thermodynamic entropies of the generalised Gibbs and the diagonal ensembles and we find that the generalised Gibbs entropy is always twice the diagonal one. We show that particular care should be taken in extracting the thermodynamic limit since different averages of equivalent microstates give different results for the entropies.
A quasi 2-dimensional recursive lattice formed by planar elements have been designed to investigate the surface thermodynamics of Ising spin glass system with the aim to study the metastability of supercooled liquids and the ideal glass transition. The lattice is constructed as a hybrid of partial Husimi lattice representing the bulk and 1D single bonds representing the surface. The recursive properties of the lattices were adopted to achieve exact calculations. The model has an anti-ferromagnetic interaction to give rise to an ordered phase identified as crystal, and a metastable solution rep…
The physical origin of the backbendings in the equations of state of finite but not necessarily small systems is studied in the Ising model with fixed magnetization (IMFM) by means of the topological properties of the observable distributions and the analysis of the largest cluster with increasing lattice size. Looking at the convexity anomalies of the IMFM thermodynamic potential, it is shown that the order of the transition at the thermodynamic limit can be recognized in finite systems independently of the lattice size. General statistical mechanics arguments and analytical calculations sugg…
This work maps deep neural networks to classical Ising spin models, allowing them to be described using statistical thermodynamics. The density of states shows that structures emerge in the weights after they have been trained -- well-trained networks span a much wider range of realizable energies compared to poorly trained ones. These structures propagate throughout the entire network and are not observed in individual layers. The energy values correlate to performance on tasks, making it possible to distinguish networks based on quality without access to data. Thermodynamic properties such a…
In this study, we have employed the classical transfer matrix technique to investigate the magnetization plateaus, phase diagrams and other thermodynamical properties of the one-dimensional antiferromagnetic spin-3/2 and spin-2 Ising chains with single-ion anisotropy in the presence of an external magnetic field at very low temperature. We have showed that single ion-anisotropy is one of the indispensable ingredients for an energy gap which leads to magnetic plateau mechanism in one-dimensional antiferromagnetic Ising spin chains. Other thermodynamical predictions seem to be provide this argum…
The $n$-index Rényi mutual information and transfer entropy for the two-dimensional kinetic Ising model with arbitrary single-spin dynamics in the thermodynamic limit are derived as functions of thermodynamic quantities. By means of Monte Carlo simulations with the Wolff algorithm, we calculate the information flows in the Ising model with the Metropolis dynamics and the Glauber dynamics. We find that, not only the global Rényi transfer entropy, but also the pairwise Rényi transfer entropy peaks in the disorder phase. Therefore, the Rényi information flows may be used as better tools than the …
A mixed Ising-Heisenberg spin system consisting of triangular XXZ-Heisenberg spin clusters assembled into a chain by alternating with Ising spins interacting to all three spins in the triangle is considered. The exact solution of the model is given in terms of the generalized decoration--iteration map and within the transfer-matrix technique. Exact expressions for thermodynamic functions are derived. Ground state phase diagrams, thermodynamic and magnetic properties of the system are examined.
Exact expressions of correlation functions between two spins in the boundary row of the two-dimensional rectangular Ising model with periodic-free boundary conditions and finite size
The study of the mean-field static solution of the Random Blume-Emery-Griffiths-Capel model, an Ising-spin lattice gas with quenched random magnetic interaction, is performed. The model exhibits a paramagnetic phase, described by a stable Replica Symmetric solution. When the temperature is decreased or the density increases, the system undergoes a phase transition to a Full Replica Symmetry Breaking spin-glass phase. The nature of the transition can be either of the second order (like in the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model) or, at temperature below a given critical value, of the first order in t…
To understand the collinear-magnetism-driven ferroelectricity in multiferroic Ca3CoMnO6 compound, we have established an elastic diatomic Ising spin-chain model with axial-next-nearest-neighbor interaction to describe its magnetoelectric properties. By employing magneto-phonon decoupling and transfer-matrix method, the possible ground-state configurations and thermodynamic behaviors of the system have been exactly determined. From the perspective of the ground-state configuration, we analyze the computational results and make a detail comparison with experimental data. The parameter relation f…
The large amounts of data from molecular biology and neuroscience have lead to a renewed interest in the inverse Ising problem: how to reconstruct parameters of the Ising model (couplings between spins and external fields) from a number of spin configurations sampled from the Boltzmann measure. To invert the relationship between model parameters and observables (magnetisations and correlations) mean-field approximations are often used, allowing to determine model parameters from data. However, all known mean-field methods fail at low temperatures with the emergence of multiple thermodynamic st…
The restricted Boltzmann machine (RBM) is a two-layer energy-based model that uses its hidden-visible connections to learn the underlying distribution of visible units, whose interactions are often complicated by high-order correlations. Previous studies on the Ising model of small system sizes have shown that RBMs are able to accurately learn the Boltzmann distribution and reconstruct thermal quantities at temperatures away from the critical point $T_c$. How the RBM encodes the Boltzmann distribution and captures the phase transition are, however, not well explained. In this work, we perform …
The two-dimensional Ising model on a distorted Kagomé lattice is studied by means of exact solutions and the tensor renormalisation group (TRG) method. The zero-field phase diagrams are obtained, where three phases such as ferromagnetic, ferrimagnetic and paramagnetic phases, along with the second-order phase transitions, have been identified. The TRG results are quite accurate and reliable in comparison to the exact solutions. In a magnetic field, the magnetization ($m$), susceptibility and specific heat are studied by the TRG algorithm, where the $m=1/3$ plateaux are observed in the magnetiz…
We study the thermodynamics of Ising spins on the triangular kagome lattice (TKL) using exact analytic methods as well as Monte Carlo simulations. We present the free energy, internal energy, specific heat, entropy, sublattice magnetizations, and susceptibility. We describe the rich phase diagram of the model as a function of coupling constants, temperature, and applied magnetic field. For frustrated interactions in the absence of applied field, the ground state is a spin liquid phase with integer residual entropy per spin $s_0/k_B={1/9} \ln 72\approx 0.4752...$. In weak applied field, the sys…
We present a large-scale simulation of the three-dimensional Ising spin glass with Gaussian disorder to low temperatures and large sizes using optimized population annealing Monte Carlo. Our primary focus is investigating the number of pure states regarding a controversial statistic, characterizing the fraction of centrally peaked disorder instances, of the overlap function order parameter. We observe that this statistic is subtly and sensitively influenced by the slight fluctuations of the integrated central weight of the disorder-averaged overlap function, making the asymptotic growth behavi…
