After publication of the paper in J of Algebra H. H. Andersen pointed several inaccuracies out to us, especially in the last section 9 where the A2-calculations are done. The differences from the published version of the paper are essentially due to the corresponding corrections
We produce Jucys-Murphy elements for the diagrammatical category of Soergel bimodules associated with general Coxeter groups, and use them to diagonalize the bilinear form on the cell modules. This gives rise to an expression for the determinant of the forms and Jantzen type sum formulas.
We construct the Jucys-Murphy elements and the Jucys-Murphy basis for the $q$-Brauer algebra in the sense of Mathas[11]. We also give a necessary and sufficient condition for the $q$-Brauer algebra being (split) semisimple over an arbitrary field.
We study analogues of Jucys-Murphy elements in cellular algebras arising from repeated Jones basic constructions. Examples include Brauer and BMW algebras and their cyclotomic analogues.
The Birman-Wenzl-Murakami algebra, considered as the quotient of the braid group algebra, possesses the commutative set of Jucys--Murphy elements. We show that the set of Jucys--Murphy elements is maximal commutative for the generic Birman-Wenzl-Murakami algebra and reconstruct the representation theory of the tower of Birman-Wenzl-Murakami algebras.
We give a new presentation for the partition algebras. This presentation was discovered in the course of establishing an inductive formula for the partition algebra Jucys-Murphy elements defined by Halverson and Ram [European J. Combin. 26 (2005), 869-921]. Using Schur-Weyl duality we show that our recursive formula and the original definition of Jucys-Murphy elements given by Halverson and Ram are equivalent. The new presentation and inductive formula for the partition algebra Jucys-Murphy elements given in this paper are used to construct the seminormal representations for the partition alge…
We give a concrete construction of a graded cellular basis for the generalized blob algebra B_n introduced by Martin and Woodcock. The construction uses the isomorphism between KLR-algebras and cyclotomic Hecke algebras, proved by Brundan-Kleshchev and Rouquier. It gives rise to a family of Jucys-Murphy elements for B_n.
An inductive approach to the representation theory of cyclotomic Hecke algebras, inspired by Okounkov and Vershik, is developed. We study the common spectrum of the Jucys-Murphy elements using representations of the simplest affine Hecke algebra. Representations are constructed with the help of a new associative algebra whose underlying vector space is the tensor product of the cyclotomic Hecke algebra with the free associative algebra generated by standard m-tableaux.
This paper proves a periodic property of Jucys-Murphy elements of the degenerate and non-degenerate cy- clotomic Hecke algebras of type A. We do this by first giving a new closed formula for the KLR idempotents e(i) which, it tuns out, is very efficient computationally.
We explain the appearance of free convolution of Kerov transition measures in the outer product of representations of S_n by showing that some elements of the group algebra are asymptotically free.
We explain the appearance of the free compression of a transition measure in the problem of the restriction of the representation of the symmetric group to a subgroup by showing the responsible free projection.
Let R be an integral domain and A a cellular algebra. Suppose that A is equipped with a family of Jucys-Murphy elements which satisfy the separation condition. Let K be the field of fractions of R. We give a necessary and sufficient condition under which the center of $A_{K}$ consists of the symmetric polynomials in Jucys-Murphy elements.
We provide a compact proof of the recent formula of Collins and Matsumoto for the Weingarten matrix of the orthogonal group using Jucys-Murphy elements.
We present a method to compute the class expansion of a symmetric function in the Jucys-Murphy elements of the symmetric group. We apply this method to one-row Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions, which interpolate between power sums and complete symmetric functions.
Consider the elements of the group algebra CS_{n} given by R_{j}=Sigma_{i=1}^{j-1}(ij), for 2<=j<=n. Jucys [3 - 5] and Murphy[7] showed that these elements act diagonally on elements of S_{n} and gave explicit formulas for the diagonal entries. As requested by the late S. Kerov, we give a combinatorial proof of this work in case j=n and present several similar results which arise from these combinatorial methods.
We define analogs of the Jucys-Murphy elements for the affine Temperley-Lieb algebra and give their explicit expansion in terms of the basis of planar Brauer diagrams. These Jucys-Murphy elements are a family of commuting elements in the affine Temperley-Lieb algebra, and we compute their eigenvalues on the generic irreducible representations. We show that they come from Jucys-Murphy elements in the affine Hecke algebra of type A, which in turn come from the Casimir element of the quantum group $U_h\mathfrak{gl}_n$. We also give the explicit specializations of these results to the finite Tempe…
Kudryavtseva and Mazorchuk exhibited Schur-Weyl duality between the rook monoid algebra $\mathbb{C}R_n$ and the subalgebra $\mathbb{C}I_k$ of the partition algebra $\mathbb{C} A_k(n)$ acting on $(\mathbb{C}^n)^{\otimes k}$. In this paper, we consider a subalgebra $\mathbb{C}I_{k+\frac{1}{2}}$ of $\mathbb{C} I_{k+1}$ such that there is Schur-Weyl duality between the actions of $\mathbb{C} R_{n-1}$ and $\mathbb{C} I_{k+\frac{1}{2}}$ on $(\mathbb{C}^n)^{\otimes k}$. This paper studies the representation theory of partition algebras $\mathbb{C}I_k$ and $\mathbb{C}I_{k+\frac{1}{2}}$ for rook monoid…
We realize the integral Specht modules for the symmetric group $S_n$ as induced modules from the subalgebra of the group algebra generated by the Jucys-Murphy elements. We deduce from this that the simple modules for $FS_n$ are generated by reductions modulo $p$ of the corresponding Jucys-Murphy idempotents.
In this paper, we study the relationship between polynomial integrals on the unitary group and the conjugacy class expansion of symmetric functions in Jucys-Murphy elements. Our main result is an explicit formula for the top coefficients in the class expansion of monomial symmetric functions in Jucys-Murphy elements, from which we recover the first order asymptotics of polynomial integrals over $\U(N)$ as $N \rightarrow \infty$. Our results on class expansion include an analogue of Macdonald's result for the top connection coefficients of the class algebra, a generalization of Stanley and Olsh…
We consider a tower of generalized rook monoid algebras over the field $\mathbb{C}$ of complex numbers and observe that the Bratteli diagram associated to this tower is a simple graph. We construct simple modules and describe Jucys-Murphy elements for generalized rook monoid algebras. Over an algebraically closed field $\Bbbk$ of positive characteristic $p$, utilizing Jucys-Murphy elements of rook monoid algebras, for $0\leq i\leq p-1$ we define the corresponding $i$-restriction and $i$-induction functors along with two extra functors. On the direct sum $\mathcal{G}_{\mathbb{C}}$ of the Grothe…
G. E. Murphy showed in 1983 that the centre of every symmetric group algebra has an integral basis consisting of a specific set of monomial symmetric polynomials in the Jucys--Murphy elements. While we have shown in earlier work that the centre of the group algebra of S_3 has exactly three additional such bases, we show in this paper that the centre of the group algebra of S_4 has infinitely many bases consisting of monomial symmetric polynomials in Jucys--Murphy elements, which we characterize completely. The proof of this result involves establishing closed forms for coefficients of class su…
An approach, based on Jucys--Murphy elements, to the representation theory of cyclotomic Hecke algebras is developed. The maximality (in the cyclotomic Hecke algebra) of the set of the Jucys--Murphy elements is established. A basis of the cyclotomic Hecke algebra is suggested; this basis is used to establish the flatness of the deformation without use of the representation theory.
Commutative sets of Jucys-Murphyelements for affine braid groups of $A^{(1)},B^{(1)},C^{(1)},D^{(1)}$ types were defined. Construction of $R$-matrix representations of the affine braid group of type $C^{(1)}$ and its distinguish commutative subgroup generated by the $C^{(1)}$-type Jucys--Murphy elements are given. We describe a general method to produce flat connections for the two-boundary quantum Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations as necessary conditions for Sklyanin's type transfer matrix associated with the two-boundary multicomponent Zamolodchikov algebra to be invariant under the action of…
We describe a recursive algorithm that produces an integral basis for the centre of the Hecke algebra of type A consisting of linear combinations of monomial symmetric polynomials of Jucys--Murphy elements. We also discuss the existence of integral bases for the centre of the Hecke algebra that consist solely of monomial symmetric polynomials of Jucys--Murphy elements. Finally, for n=3, we show that only one such basis exists for the centre of the Hecke algebra, by proving that there are exactly four bases for the centre of the corresponding symmetric group algebra which consist solely of mono…
An inductive approach to the representation theory of the chain of the complex reflection groups G(m,1,n) is presented. We obtain the Jucys-Murphy elements of G(m,1,n) from the Jucys--Murphy elements of the cyclotomic Hecke algebra, and study their common spectrum using representations of a degenerate cyclotomic affine Hecke algebra. Representations of G(m,1,n) are constructed with the help of a new associative algebra whose underlying vector space is the tensor product of the group ring of G(m,1,n) with a free associative algebra generated by the standard m-tableaux.
The Jucys-Murphy elements for wreath products G_n associated to any finite group G are introduced and they play an important role in our study on the connections between class algebras of G_n for all n and vertex algebras. We construct an action of (a variant of) the W_{1+\infty} algebra acting irreducibly on the direct sum R_G of the class algebras of G_n for all n in a group theoretic manner. We establish various relations between convolution operators using JM elements and Heisenberg algebra operators acting on R_G. As applications, we obtain two distinct sets of algebra generators for the …
We study a commuting family of elements of the walled Brauer algebra $B_{r,s}(δ)$, called the Jucys-Murphy elements, and show that the supersymmetric polynomials in these elements belong to the center of the walled Brauer algebra. When $B_{r,s}(δ)$ is semisimple, we show that those supersymmetric polynomials generate the center. Under the same assumption,we define a maximal commutative subalgebra of $B_{r,s}(δ)$, called the \emph{Gelfand-Zetlin subalgebra}, and show that it is generated by the Jucys-Murphy elements. As an application, we construct a complete set of primitive orthogonal idempot…
We develop an inductive approach to the representation theory of the Yokonuma-Hecke algebra ${\rm Y}_{d,n}(q)$, based on the study of the spectrum of its Jucys-Murphy elements which are defined here. We give explicit formulas for the irreducible representations of ${\rm Y}_{d,n}(q)$ in terms of standard $d$-tableaux; we then use them to obtain a semisimplicity criterion. Finally, we prove the existence of a canonical symmetrising form on ${\rm Y}_{d,n}(q)$ and calculate the Schur elements with respect to that form.
This paper develops an abstract framework for constructing ``seminormal forms'' for cellular algebras. That is, given a cellular R-algebra A which is equipped with a family of JM-elements we give a general technique for constructing orthogonal bases for A, and for all of its irreducible representations, when the JM-elements separate A. The seminormal forms for A are defined over the field of fractions of R. Significantly, we show that the Gram determinant of each irreducible A-module is equal to a product of certain structure constants coming from the seminormal basis of A. In the non-separate…
