An inverted semistandard Young tableau is a row-standard tableau along with a collection of inversion pairs that quantify how far the tableau is from being column semistandard. Such a tableau with precisely $k$ inversion pairs is said to be a $k$-inverted semistandard Young tableau. Building upon earlier work by Fresse and the author, this paper develops generating functions for the numbers of $k$-inverted semistandard Young tableau of various shapes $λ$ and contents $μ$. An easily-calculable generating function is given for the number of $k$-inverted semistandard Young tableau that "standardize" to a fixed semistandard Young tableau. For $m$-row shapes $λ$ and standard content $μ$, the total number of $k$-inverted standard Young tableau of shape $λ$ are then enumerated by relating such tableaux to $m$-dimensional generalizations of Dyck paths and counting the numbers of "returns to ground" in those paths. In the rectangular specialization of $λ= n^m$ this yields a generating function that involves $m$-dimensional analogues of the famed Ballot numbers. Our various results are then used to directly enumerate all $k$-inverted semistandard Young tableaux with arbitrary content and two-row shape $λ= a^1 b^1$, as well as all $k$-inverted standard Young tableaux with two-column shape $λ=2^n$.
We give a new cyclic sieving phenomenon for semistandard Young tableaux $SSYT(λ,μ)$ of shape $λ=(m,n^b)$ and content $μ$, a $(b+2)$-tuple. We prove that $(SSYT(λ,μ),\langle \partial^{b+2} \rangle, f(q))$ exhibits the cyclic sieving phenomenon, where $\partial$ is the jeu de taquin promotion operator and $f(q)$ is a modified Kostka-Foulkes polynomial $\widetilde{K}_{λ,μ}(q)$, up to a power of $q$.
In 1976, King defined certain tableaux model, called King tableaux in this paper, counting weight multiplicities of irreducible representation of the symplectic group $Sp(2m)$ for a given dominant weight. Since Kashiwara defined crystals, it is an open problem to provide a crystal structure on King tableaux. In this paper, we present crystal structures on King tableaux and semistandard oscillating tableaux. The semistandard oscillating tableaux naturally appear as $Q$-tableaux in the symplectic version of RSK algorithms. As an application, we discuss Littlewood-Richardson coefficients for $Sp(…
Quasi-Yamanouchi tableaux are a subset of semistandard Young tableaux and refine standard Young tableaux. They are closely tied to the descent set of standard Young tableaux and were introduced by Assaf and Searles to tighten Gessel's fundamental quasisymmetric expansion of Schur functions. The descent set and descent statistic of standard Young tableaux repeatedly prove themselves useful to consider, and as a result, quasi-Yamanouchi tableaux make appearances in many ways outside of their original purpose. Some examples, which we present in this paper, include the Schur expansion of Jack poly…
Let $δ=(δ_1,\ldots,δ_n)$ be a string of letters $h$ and $v$. We define a Young tableau to be $δ$-semistandard if the entries are weakly increasing along rows and columns, and the entries $i$ form a horizontal strip if $δ_i=h$ and a vertical strip if $δ_i=v$. We define $δ$-promotion on such tableaux via a modified jeu-de-taquin. The first main result is that $δ$-promotion has period $n$ on rectangular $δ$-semistandard tableaux, generalizing the results of Haiman and Rhoades for standard and semistandard tableaux. The second main result states that the set of rectangular $δ$-semistandard tableau…
In this paper, we study a new cyclic sieving phenomenon on the set $\mathsf{SST}_n(λ)$ of semistandard Young tableaux with the cyclic action $\mathsf{c}$ arising from its $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_n)$-crystal structure. We prove that if $λ$ is a Young diagram with $\ell(λ) < n$ and $\gcd( n, |λ| )=1$, then the triple $\left( \mathsf{SST}_n(λ), \mathsf{C}, q^{- κ(λ)} s_λ(1,q, \ldots, q^{n-1}) \right) $ exhibits the cyclic sieving phenomenon, where $\mathsf{C}$ is the cyclic group generated by $\mathsf{c}$. We further investigate a connection between $\mathsf{c}$ and the promotion $\mathsf{pr}$ and sho…
Symmetric Dyck tilings and ballot tilings are certain tilings in the region surrounded by two ballot paths. We study the relations of combinatorial objects which are bijective to symmetric Dyck tilings such as labeled trees, Hermite histories, and perfect matchings. We also introduce two operations on labeled trees for symmetric Dyck tilings: symmetric Dyck tiling strip (symDTS) and symmetric Dyck tiling ribbon (symDTR). We give two definitions of Hermite histories for symmetric Dyck tilings, and show that they are equivalent by use of the correspondence between symDTS operation and an Hermite…
Crystal basis theory for the queer Lie superalgebra was developed by Grantcharov et al. and it was shown that semistandard decomposition tableaux admit the structure of crystals for the queer Lie superalgebra or simply $\mathfrak{q}$-crystal structure. In this paper, we explore the $\mathfrak{q}$-crystal structure of primed tableaux (semistandard marked shifted tableaux) and that of signed unimodal factorizations of reduced words of type $B$. We give the explicit odd Kashiwara operators on primed tableaux and the forms of the highest and lowest weight vectors. We also give the explicit algorit…
We define crystal operators on semistandard shifted tableaux, giving a new proof that Schur $P$-functions are Schur positive. We define a queer crystal operator to construct a connected queer crystal on semistandard shifted tableaux of a given shape, providing a new proof that products of Schur $P$-functions are Schur $P$-positive. We also give a rectification map from shifted tableaux to Young tableaux that commutes with the crystal operators and provides a dual algorithm to shifted insertion.
Quasi-Yamanouchi tableaux connect the two most studied types of tableaux. They are a subset of semistandard Young tableaux that are also a refinement on standard Young tableaux, and they can be used to improve the fundamental quasisymmetric expansion of Schur polynomials. We prove a product formula for enumerating certain quasi-Yamanouchi tableaux and provide strong evidence that no product formula exists in general for other shapes. Along the way, we also prove some nice properties of their distribution and symmetry.
The notion of a barely set-valued semistandard Young tableau was introduced by Reiner, Tenner and Yong in their study of the probability distribution of edges in the Young lattice of partitions. Given a partition $λ$ and a positive integer $k$, let ${\mathrm{BSSYT}}(λ,k)$ (respectively, ${\mathrm{SYT}}(λ,k)$) denote the set of barely set-valued semistandard Young tableaux (respectively, ordinary semistandard Young tableaux) of shape $λ$ with entries in row $i$ not exceeding $k+i$. In the case when $λ$ is a rectangular staircase partition $δ_d(b^a)$, Reiner, Tenner and Yong conjectured that $|{…
Motivated by the study of polytopes formed as the convex hull of permutation matrices and alternating sign matrices, we define several new families of polytopes as convex hulls of sign matrices, which are certain {0,1,-1}-matrices in bijection with semistandard Young tableaux. We investigate various properties of these polytopes, including their inequality descriptions, vertices, facets, and face lattices, as well as connections to alternating sign matrix polytopes and transportation polytopes.
In this paper, we study pattern avoidances of generalized permutations and show that the number of all generalized permutations avoiding $π$ is independent of the choice of $π\in S_3$, which extends the classic results on permutations avoiding $π\in S_3$. Extending both Dyck path and Riordan path, we introduce the Catalan-Riordan path which turns out to be a combinatorial interpretation of the difference array of Catalan numbers. As applications, we interpret both Motzkin and Riordan numbers in two ways, via semistandard Young tableaux of two rows and generalized permutations avoiding $π\in S_…

Thomas和A.杨与热带中楣图案的组合学。然后,我们使用这个jeu de taquin提出新的情况下,循环筛分现象的V。Stanton和D. White的结果,推广了D.怀特和J·斯坦布里奇。
We introduce coplactic raising and lowering operators $E'_i$, $F'_i$, $E_i$, and $F_i$ on shifted skew semistandard tableaux. We show that the primed operators and unprimed operators each independently form type A Kashiwara crystals (but not Stembridge crystals) on the same underlying set and with the same weight functions. When taken together, the result is a new kind of `doubled crystal' structure that recovers the combinatorics of type B Schubert calculus: the highest-weight elements of our crystals are precisely the shifted Littlewood-Richardson tableaux, and their generating functions are…
We introduce lecture hall tableaux, which are fillings of a skew Young diagram satisfying certain conditions. Lecture hall tableaux generalize both lecture hall partitions and anti-lecture hall compositions, and also contain reverse semistandard Young tableaux as a limit case. We show that the coefficients in the Schur expansion of multivariate little $q$-Jacobi polynomials are generating functions for lecture hall tableaux. Using a Selberg-type integral we show that moments of multivariate little $q$-Jacobi polynomials, which are equal to generating functions for lecture hall tableaux of a Yo…
We present a bijection between the set of standard Young tableaux of staircase minus rectangle shape, and the set of marked shifted standard Young tableaux of a certain shifted shape. Numerically, this result is due to DeWitt (2012). Combined with other known bijections this gives a bijective proof of the product formula for the number of standard Young tableaux of staircase minus rectangle shape. This resolves an open problem by Morales, Pak and Panova (2019), and allows for efficient random sampling. Other applications include a bijection for semistandard Young tableaux, and a bijective proo…
Let $s_ν\circ s_μ$ denote the plethystic product of the Schur functions $s_ν$ and $s_μ$. In this article we define an explicit polynomial representation corresponding to $s_ν\circ s_μ$ with basis indexed by certain `plethystic' semistandard tableaux. Using these representations we prove generalizations of four results on plethysms due to Bruns--Conca--Varbaro, Brion, Ikenmeyer and the authors. In particular, we give a sufficient condition for the multiplicity $\langle s_ν\circ s_μ, s_λ\rangle$ to be stable under insertion of new parts into $μ$ and $λ$. We also characterize all maximal and mini…

This paper makes a combinatorial study of the two monoids and the two types of tableaux that arise from the two possible generalizations of the Patience Sorting algorithm from permutations (or standard words) to words. For both types of tableaux, we present Robinson--Schensted--Knuth-type correspondences (that is, bijective correspondences between word arrays and certain pairs of semistandard tableaux of the same shape), generalizing two known correspondences: a bijective correspondence between standard words and certain pairs of standard tableaux, and an injective correspondence between words…

Lam and Pylyavskyy introduced loop symmetric functions as a generalization of symmetric functions. They defined loop Schur functions as generating functions over semistandard tableaux with respect to a `colored weight,' and they proved a Jacobi--Trudi-style determinantal formula for these generating functions. We prove that loop Schur functions can be expressed as a ratio of `loop alternants,' extending the analogy with Schur functions. As an application, we give a new proof of the loop version of the Murnaghan--Nakayama rule.
