Motivated by the works of Shiromoto [3] and Shi et al. [4], we study the existence of MacWilliams type identities with respect to Lee and Euclidean weight enumerators for linear codes over $\mathbb{Z}_{\ell}.$ Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of MacWilliams type identities with respect to Lee and Euclidean weight enumerators for linear codes over $\mathbb{Z}_{\ell}$ are given. Some examples about such MacWilliams type identities are also presented.
In 1997, Shor and Laflamme defined the weight enumerators for quantum error-correcting codes and derived a MacWilliams identity. We extend their work by introducing our double weight enumerators and complete weight enumerators. The MacWilliams identities for these enumerators can be obtained similarly. With the help of MacWilliams identities, we obtain various bounds for asymmetric quantum codes.
In this work we characterize the combinatorial metrics admitting a MacWilliams-type identity and describe the group of linear isometries of such metrics. Considering coverings that are not connected, we classify the metrics satisfying the MacWilliams extension property.
Pomset block metric is a generalization of pomset metric. In this paper, we define weight enumerator of linear block codes in pomset metric over $\mathbb{Z}_m$ and establish MacWilliams type identities for linear block codes with respect to certain pomsets. The relation between weight enumerators of two linear pomset block codes and their direct sum is also investigated.
MacWilliams identities for poset level weight enumerators of linear codes
Let $\mathbb{Z}_p$ be the ring of integers modulo a prime number $p$ where $p-1$ is a quadratic residue modulo $p$. This paper presents the study of constacyclic codes over chain rings $\mathcal{R}=\frac{\mathbb{Z}_p[u]}{\langle u^2\rangle}$ and $\mathcal{S}=\frac{\mathbb{Z}_p[u]}{\langle u^3\rangle}$. We also study additive constacyclic codes over $\mathcal{R}\mathcal{S}$ and $\mathbb{Z}_p\mathcal{R}\mathcal{S}$ using the generator polynomials over the rings $\mathcal{R}$ and $\mathcal{S},$ respectively. Further, by defining Gray maps on $\mathcal{R}$, $\mathcal{S}$ and $\mathbb{Z}_p\mathcal{…
The weight generating functions associated with convolutional codes (CCs) are based on state space realizations or the weight adjacency matrices (WAMs). The MacWilliams identity for CCs on the WAMs was first established by Gluesing- Luerssen and Schneider in the case of minimal encoders, and generalized by Forney. We consider this problem in the viewpoint of constraint codes and obtain a simple and direct proof of this MacWilliams identity in the case of minimal encoders. For our purpose, we choose a different representation for the exact weight generating function (EWGF) of a block code, by d…
We introduce a general class of regular weight functions on finite abelian groups, and study the combinatorics, the duality theory, and the metric properties of codes endowed with such functions. The weights are obtained by composing a suitable support map with the rank function of a graded lattice satisfying certain regularity properties. A regular weight on a group canonically induces a regular weight on the character group, and invertible MacWilliams identities always hold for such a pair of weights. Moreover, the Krawtchouk coefficients of the corresponding MacWilliams transformation have …
The Doob scheme $D(m,n'+n'')$ is a metric association scheme defined on $E_4^m \times F_4^{n'}\times Z_4^{n''}$, where $E_4=GR(4^2)$ or, alternatively, on $Z_4^{2m} \times Z_2^{2n'} \times Z_4^{n''}$. We prove the MacWilliams identities connecting the weight distributions of a linear or additive code and its dual. In particular, for each case, we determine the dual scheme, on the same set but with different metric, such that the weight distribution of an additive code $C$ in the Doob scheme $D(m,n'+n'')$ is related by the MacWilliams identities with the weight distribution of the dual code $C^…
We investigate linear codes over the ring $\mathbb{Z}_4 + u\mathbb{Z}_4 + v\mathbb{Z}_4 + w\mathbb{Z}_4 + uv\mathbb{Z}_4 + uw\mathbb{Z}_4 + vw\mathbb{Z}_4 + uvw\mathbb{Z}_4$, with conditions $u^2=u$, $v^2=v$, $w^2=w$, $uv=vu$, $uw=wu$ and $vw=wv.$ We first analyze the structure of the ring and then define linear codes over this ring. Lee weight and Gray map for these codes are defined and MacWilliams relations for complete, symmetrized, and Lee weight enumerators are obtained. The Singleton bound as well as maximum distance separable codes are also considered. Furthermore, cyclic and quasi-cyc…
This is a chapter of the upcoming "A Concise Encyclopedia of Coding Theory", W.C. Huffman, J.-L. Kim, and P. Sole' Eds., CRC Press. The chapter gives an introduction to the mathematical theory of rank-metric codes. Treated topics include: definition of rank metric, equivalence of codes, support of a codeword and of a code, duality, weight enumerators and MacWilliams identities, higher rank weights, MRD codes, optimal anticodes, and q-polymatroids associated to a rank-metric code.
In this paper, we mainly study the theory of linear codes over the ring $R =\mathbb{Z}_4+u\mathbb{Z}_4+v\mathbb{Z}_4+uv\mathbb{Z}_4$. By the Chinese Remainder Theorem, we have $R$ is isomorphic to the direct sum of four rings $\mathbb{Z}_4$. We define a Gray map $Φ$ from $R^{n}$ to $\mathbb{Z}_4^{4n}$, which is a distance preserving map. The Gray image of a cyclic code over $R^{n}$ is a linear code over $\mathbb{Z}_4$. Furthermore, we study the MacWilliams identities of linear codes over $R$ and give the the generator polynomials of cyclic codes over $R$. Finally, we discuss some properties of…
We study the row-space partition and the pivot partition on the matrix space $\mathbb{F}_q^{n \times m}$. We show that both these partitions are reflexive and that the row-space partition is self-dual. Moreover, using various combinatorial methods, we explicitly compute the Krawtchouk coefficients associated with these partitions. This establishes MacWilliams-type identities for the row-space and pivot enumerators of linear rank-metric codes. We then generalize the Singleton-like bound for rank-metric codes, and introduce two new concepts of code extremality. Both of them generalize the notion…
With a small suitable modification, dropping the projectivity condition, we extend the notion of a Frobenius algebra to grant that a Frobenius algebra over a Frobenius commutative ring is itself a Frobenius ring. The modification introduced here also allows Frobenius finite rings to be precisely those rings which are Frobenius finite algebras over their characteristic subrings. From the perspective of linear codes, our work expands one's options to construct new finite Frobenius rings from old ones. We close with a discussion of generalized versions of the MacWilliams identities that may be ob…
In this work we introduce a new class of optimal tensor codes related to the Ravagnani-type anticodes, namely the $j$-tensor maximum rank distance codes. We show that it extends the family of $j$-maximum rank distance codes and contains the $j$-tensor binomial moment determined codes (with respect to the Ravagnani-type anticodes) as a proper subclass. We define and study the generalized zeta function for tensor codes. We establish connections between this object and the weight enumerator of a code with respect to the Ravagnani-type anticodes. We introduce a new refinement of the invariants of …
A $t$-$(n,d,λ)$ design over ${\mathbb F}_q$, or a subspace design, is a collection of $d$-dimensional subspaces of ${\mathbb F}_q^n$, called blocks, with the property that every $t$-dimensional subspace of ${\mathbb F}_q^n$ is contained in the same number $λ$ of blocks. A collection of matrices in over ${\mathbb F}_q$ is said to hold a subspace design if the set of column spaces of its elements forms the blocks of a subspace design. We use notions of puncturing and shortening of rank metric codes and the rank-metric MacWilliams identities to establish conditions under which the words of a give…
Gleason's 1970 theorem on weight enumerators of self-dual codes has played a crucial role for research in coding theory during the last four decades. Plenty of generalizations have been proved but, to our knowledge, they are all based on the symmetries given by MacWilliams' identities. This paper is intended to be a first step towards a more general investigation of symmetries of weight enumerators. We list the possible groups of symmetries, dealing both with the finite and infinite case, we develop a new algorithm to compute the group of symmetries of a given weight enumerator and apply these…
In this paper, we construct an infinite family of five-weight codes from trace codes over the ring $R=\mathbb{F}_2+u\mathbb{F}_2$, where $u^2=0.$ The trace codes have the algebraic structure of abelian codes. Their Lee weight is computed by using character sums. Combined with Pless power moments and Newton's Identities, the weight distribution of the Gray image of trace codes was present. Their support structure is determined. An application to secret sharing schemes is given.
Polar codes are the first class of constructive channel codes achieving the symmetric capacity of the binary-input discrete memoryless channels. But the analysis and construction of polar codes involve the complex iterative-calculation. In this paper, by revisiting the error event of the polarized channel, a new concept, named polar spectrum, is introduced from the weight distribution of polar codes. Thus we establish a systematic framework in term of the polar spectrum to analyze and construct polar codes. By using polar spectrum, we derive the union bound and the union-Bhattacharyya (UB) bou…
