We perform the homogenization process avoiding the necessity of testing the weak formulation of the initial and homogenized systems by corresponding weak solutions. We show that the stress tensor for homogenized problem depends on the gradient involving the limit of a sequence selected from a family of solutions of initial problems.
We study the homogenization of stationary compressible Navier--Stokes--Fourier system in a bounded three dimensional domain perforated with a large number of very tiny holes. Under suitable assumptions imposed on the smallness and distribution of the holes, we show that the homogenized limit system remains the same in the domain without holes.
In this note we comment on the homogenization of a random elliptic operator in divergence form $-\nabla \cdot a\nabla$, where the coefficient field $a$ is distributed according to a stationary, but not necessarily ergodic, probability measure $P$. We generalize the well-known case for $P$ stationary and ergodic by showing that the operator $-\nabla \cdot a(\frac{\cdot}{\varepsilon})\nabla$ almost surely homogenizes to a constant-coefficient, random operator $-\nabla \cdot A_h\nabla$. Furthermore, we use a disintegration formula for $P$ with respect to a family of ergodic and stationary probabi…
In this paper, we characterize the asymptotic behavior of a first-order stationary mean-field game (MFG) with a logarithm coupling, a quadratic Hamiltonian, and a periodically oscillating potential. This study falls into the realm of the homogenization theory, and our main tool is the two-scale convergence. Using this convergence, we rigorously derive the two-scale homogenized and the homogenized MFG problems, which encode the so-called macroscopic or effective behavior of the original oscillating MFG. Moreover, we prove existence and uniqueness of the solution to these limit problems.
The aim of this paper is twofold. The first is to study the asymptotics of a parabolically scaled, continuous and space-time stationary in time version of the well-known Funaki-Spohn model in Statistical Physics. After a change of unknowns requiring the existence of a space-time stationary eternal solution of a stochastically perturbed heat equation, the problem transforms to the qualitative homogenization of a uniformly elliptic, space-time stationary, divergence form, nonlinear partial differential equation, the study of which is the second aim of the paper. An important step is the construc…
We revisit the homogenization problem for the Poisson equation in periodically perforated domains with zero Neumann data at the boundary of the holes and prescribed Dirichlet data at the outer boundary. It is known that, if the periodicity of the holes goes to zero but their volume fraction remains fixed and positive, the limit problem is a Dirichlet boundary value problem posed in the domain without the holes, and the effective diffusion coefficients are non-trivially modified; if that volume fraction goes to zero instead, i.e. the holes are dilute, the effective operator remains the Laplacia…
This paper studies homogenization of symmetric non-local Dirichlet forms with $α$-stable-like jumping kernels in one-parameter stationary ergodic environment. Under suitable conditions, we establish homogenization results and identify the limiting effective Dirichlet forms explicitly. The coefficients of the jumping kernels of Dirichlet forms and symmetrizing measures are allowed to be degenerate and unbounded; and the coefficients in the effective Dirichlet forms can be degenerate.
In this article we are interested in quantitative homogenization results for linear elliptic equations in the non-stationary situation of a straight interface between two heterogenous media. This extends the previous work [Josien, 2019] to a substantially more general setting, in which the surrounding heterogeneous media may be periodic or random stationary and ergodic. Our main result is a quantification of the sublinearity of a homogenization corrector adapted to the interface, which we construct using an improved version of the method developed in [Fischer and Raithel, 2017]. This quantific…
We consider the specified stochastic homogenization of first order evolutive Hamilton-Jacobi equations on a very simple junction, i.e the real line with a junction at the origin. Far from the origin, we assume that the considered hamiltonian is closed to given stationary ergodic hamiltonians (which are different on the left and on the right). Near the origin, there is a perturbation zone which allows to pass from one hamiltonian to the other. The main result of this paper is a stochastic homogenization as the length of the transition zone goes to zero. More precisely, at the limit we get two d…
We investigate the homogenization of inclusions of infinite conductivity, randomly stationary distributed inside a homogeneous conducting medium. A now classical result by Zhikov shows that, under a logarithmic moment bound on the inter-particle distance, an effective model with finite homogeneous conductivity exists. Relying on ideas from network approximation, we provide a relaxed criterion ensuring homogenization. Several examples not covered by the previous theory are discussed.
We prove stochastic homogenization for integral functionals defined on Sobolev spaces, where the stationary, ergodic integrand satisfies a degenerate growth condition of the form \begin{equation*} c|ξA(ω,x)|^p\leq f(ω,x,ξ)\leq |ξA(ω,x)|^p+Λ(ω,x) \end{equation*} for some $p\in (1,+\infty)$ and with a stationary and ergodic diagonal matrix $A$ such that its norm and the norm of its inverse satisfy minimal integrability assumptions. We also consider the convergence when Dirichlet boundary conditions or an obstacle condition are imposed. Assuming the strict convexity and differentiability of $f$ w…
This paper concerns the homogenization of Schrodinger equations for non-crystalline matter, that is to say the coefficients are given by the composition of stationary functions with stochastic deformations. Two rigorous results of so-called effective mass theorems in solid state physics are obtained: a general abstract result (beyond the classical stationary ergodic setting), and one for quasi-perfect materials (i.e. the disorder in the non-crystalline matter is limited). The former relies on the double-scale limits and the wave function is spanned on the Bloch basis. Therefore, we have extend…
In this paper, we study the homogenization problems for the stationary compressible Navier-Stokes system in a bounded 2D domain, where the domain is perforated with very tiny holes (or obstacles) whose diameters are much smaller than their mutual distances. We obtain that the process of homogenization doesn't change the motion of the fluids. From another point of view, we obtain the same system of equations in the asymptotic limit. It is the first result of homogenization problem in the compressible case in 2 dimensions.
We prove that diffusion equations with a space-time stationary and ergodic, divergence-free drift homogenize in law to a deterministic stochastic partial differential equation with Stratonovich transport noise. In the absence of spatial ergodicity, the drift is only partially absorbed into the skew-symmetric part of the flux through the use of an appropriately defined stream matrix. This leaves a time-dependent, spatially-homogenous transport which, for mildly decorrelating fields, converges to a Brownian noise with deterministic covariance in the homogenization limit. The results apply to uni…
This paper seeks to carry out the rigorous homogenization of a particulate flow consisting of a non-dilute suspension of a viscous Newtonian fluid with magnetizable particles. The fluid is assumed to be described by the Stokes flow, while the particles are either paramagnetic or diamagnetic, for which the magnetization field is a linear function of the magnetic field. The coefficients of the corresponding partial differential equations are locally periodic. A one-way coupling between the fluid domain and the particles is also assumed. The homogenized or effective response of such a suspension …
This paper concerns the rigorous periodic homogenization for a non-linear strongly coupled system, which models a suspension of magnetizable rigid particles in a non-conducting carrier viscous Newtonian fluid. The fluid drags the particles, thus alters the magnetic field. Vice versa, the magnetic field acts on the particles, which in turn affect the fluid via the no-slip boundary condition. As the size of the particles approaches zero, it is shown that the suspension's behavior is governed by a generalized magnetohydrodynamic system, where the fluid is modeled by a stationary Navier-Stokes sys…
We prove a stochastic homogenization result for integral functionals defined on finite partitions assuming the surface tension to be stationary and possibly ergodic. We also consider the convergence of boundary value problems when we impose a boundary value just on part of the boundary. As a consequence, we show that if the homogenized surface tension is isotropic, then one can obtain it by a multi-cell problem where Dirichlet boundary conditions are imposed only at the bottom and the top of the cube. We also show that this result fails in the general anisotropic case.
Rigorous Homogenization of a Stokes-Nernst-Planck-Poisson Problem for various Boundary Conditions
我们利用双尺度收敛方法对非定常Stokes-Nernst-Planck-Poisson系统进行周期均匀化(即$\eps\to 0$),其中$\eps$是一个合适的尺度参数.目的是研究微观偏微分方程组偏微分方程组的\textsl{different boundary conditions and variable choices of scalings in $\eps$}对极限模型方程结构的影响。由于基本方程的特定非线性耦合,当传递到静电漂移项的极限时必须特别注意。作为均匀化过程的直接结果,获得了各种类的放大模型方程。
In a bounded domain $\mathcal{O}\subset\mathbb{R}^3$ of class $C^{1,1}$, we consider a stationary Maxwell system with the perfect conductivity boundary conditions. It is assumed that the dielectric permittivity and the magnetic permeability are given by $η({\mathbf x}/ \varepsilon )$ and $μ({\mathbf x}/ \varepsilon )$, where $η( {\mathbf x})$ and $μ({\mathbf x})$ are symmetric $(3 \times 3)$-matrix-valued functions; they are periodic with respect to some lattice, bounded and positive definite. Here $\varepsilon >0$ is the small parameter. We use the following notation for the solutions of the …
In this paper we prove a Liouville type theorem for the stationary equations of a non-Newtonian fluid in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with the viscous part of the stress tensor $\mathbf{A}_p(u) = \mathrm{div} ( | \mathbf{D}(u) |^{p-2} \mathbf{D}(u) )$, where $\mathbf{D}(u) = \frac 12 ( \nabla u + ( \nabla u )^{\top})$ and $\frac 95 < p < 3$. We consider a weak solution $u \in W^{1,p}_{loc}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ and its potential function $\mathbf{V} = (V_{ij}) \in W^{2,p}_{loc}(\mathbb{R}^3)$, i.e. $\nabla \cdot \mathbf{V} = u$. We show that there exists a constant $s_0=s_0(p)$ such that if the $L^s$ mean oscillat…
In this paper we study homogenization of a class of control problems in a stationary and ergodic random environment. This problem has been mostly studied in the calculus of variations setting in connection to the homogenization of the Hamilton-Jacobi equations. We extend the result to the control problems with fairly general state dynamics and macroscopically inhomogeneous Lagrangians. Moreover, our approach proves homogenization under weaker growth assumptions on the Lagrangian even in the well-studied calculus of variations setting.
In this paper, we consider a microscopic semilinear elliptic equation posed in periodically perforated domains and associated with the Fourier-type condition on internal micro-surfaces. The first contribution of this work is the construction of a reliable linearization scheme that allows us, by a suitable choice of scaling arguments and stabilization constants, to prove the weak solvability of the microscopic model. Asymptotic behaviors of the microscopic solution with respect to the microscale parameter are thoroughly investigated in the second theme, based upon several cases of scaling. In p…
We consider the homogenization problem for the stochastic porous-medium type equation $\p_{t} u^ε=Δf\left(T\left(\frac{x}{\ep}\right)\om,u^\ep\right)$, with a well-prepared initial datum, where $f(T(y)\om,u)$ is a stationary process, increasing in $u$, on a given probability space $(\Om, \mathcal{F}, μ)$ endowed with an ergodic dynamical system $\{T(y)\,:\,y\in\R^N\}$. Differently from the previous literature \cite{afs,fs}, here we do not assume $\Om$ compact. We first show that the weak solution $u^\ep$ satisfies a kinetic formulation of the equation, then we exploit the theory of "stochastic…
We prove homogenization for a class of nonconvex (possibly degenerate) viscous Hamilton-Jacobi equations in stationary ergodic random environments in one space dimension. The results concern Hamiltonians of the form $G(p)+V(x,ω)$, where the nonlinearity $G$ is a minimum of two or more convex functions with the same absolute minimum, and the potential $V$ is a bounded stationary process satisfying an additional scaled hill and valley condition. This condition is trivially satisfied in the inviscid case, while it is equivalent to the original hill and valley condition of A. Yilmaz and O. Zeitoun…
In a bounded domain $\mathcal{O}\subset\mathbb{R}^3$ of class $C^{1,1}$, we consider a stationary Maxwell system with the boundary conditions of perfect conductivity. It is assumed that the magnetic permeability is given by a constant positive $(3\times 3)$-matrix $μ_0$ and the dielectric permittivity is of the form $η({\mathbf x}/ \varepsilon)$, where $η({\mathbf x})$ is a $(3 \times 3)$-matrix-valued function with real entries, periodic with respect to some lattice, bounded and positive definite. Here $\varepsilon >0$ is the small parameter. Suppose that the equation involving the curl of th…
This paper deals with the homogenization of the Poisson equation in a bounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d>2$, which is perforated by a random number of small spherical holes with random radii and positions. We show that for a class of stationary short-range correlated measures for the centres and radii of the holes, we recover in the homogenized limit an averaged analogue of the "strange term" obtained by Cioranescu and Murat in the periodic case [D. Cioranescu and F. Murat, \textit{Un term étrange venu d'ailleurs} (1986)]. We stress that we only require that the random radii have finite $(d-…
We consider Cauchy problem for a divergence form second order parabolic operator with rapidly oscillating coefficients that are periodic in spatial variables and random stationary ergodic in time. As was proved in [24] and [12] in this case the homogenized operator is deterministic. The paper focuses on non-diffusive scaling, when the oscillation in spatial variables is faster than that in temporal variable. Our goal is to study the asymptotic behaviour of the normalized difference between solutions of the original and the homogenized problems.
