One way to interpret smoothness of a measure in infinite dimensions is quasi-invariance of the measure under a class of transformations. Usually such settings lack a reference measure such as the Lebesgue or Haar measure, and therefore we can not use smoothness of a density with respect to such a measure. We describe how a functional inequality can be used to prove quasi-invariance results in several settings. In particular, this gives a different proof of the classical Cameron-Martin (Girsanov) theorem for an abstract Wiener space. In addition, we revisit several more geometric examples, even though the main abstract result concerns quasi-invariance of a measure under a group action on a measure space.
We derive a new maximal inequality for stationary sequences under a martingale-type condition introduced by Maxwell and Woodroofe [Ann. Probab. 28 (2000) 713-724]. Then, we apply it to establish the Donsker invariance principle for this class of stationary sequences. A Markov chain example is given in order to show the optimality of the conditions imposed.
We study heat kernel measures on sub-Riemannian infinite-dimensional Heisenberg-like Lie groups. In particular, we show that Cameron-Martin type quasi-invariance results hold in this subelliptic setting and give $L^p$-estimates for the Radon-Nikodym derivatives. The main ingredient in our proof is a generalized curvature-dimension estimate which holds on approximating finite-dimensional projection groups. Such estimates were first introduced by Baudoin and Garofalo in \cite{BaudoinGarofalo2011}.
We consider a diffusion process in $\mathbb{R}^d$ with a generator of the form $ L:=\frac 12 e^{V(x)}div(e^{-V(x)}\nabla ) $ where $V$ is measurable and periodic. We only assume that $e^V$ and $e^{-V}$ are locally integrable. We then show that, after proper rescaling, the law of the diffusion converges to a Brownian motion for Lebesgue almost all starting points. This pointwise invariance principle was previously known under uniform ellipticity conditions (when $V$ is bounded), and was recently proved under more restrictive $L^p$ conditions on $e^V$ and $e^{-V}$. Our approach uses Dirichlet fo…
We consider the Harnack inequality for harmonic functions with respect to three types of infinite dimensional operators. For the infinite dimensional Laplacian, we show no Harnack inequality is possible. We also show that the Harnack inequality fails for a large class of Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes, although functions that are harmonic with respect to these processes do satisfy an a priori modulus of continuity. Many of these processes also have a coupling property. The third type of operator considered is the infinite dimensional analog of operators in Hörmander's form. In this case a Harnac…
We are interested in the $q$ Logarithmic Sobolev inequality for probability measures on the infinite product of Heisenberg groups. We assume that the one site boundary free measure satisfies either a $q$ Log-Sobolev inequality or a U-Bound inequality, and we determine conditions so that the infinite dimensional Gibbs measure satisfies a $q$ Log-Sobolev inequality.
The dimension-free Harnack inequality and uniform heat kernel upper/lower bounds are derived for a class of infinite-dimensional GEM processes, which was introduced in \cite{FW} to simulate the two-parameter GEM distributions. In particular, the associated Dirichlet form satisfies the super log-Sobolev inequality which strengthens the log-Sobolev inequality derived in \cite{FW}. To prove the main results, explicit Harnack inequality and super Poincaré inequality are established for the one-dimensional Wright-Fisher diffusion processes. The main tool of the study is the coupling by change of me…
We remove the hypothesis "$S$ is finite" from the BKR inequality for product measures on $S^d$, which raises some issues related to descriptive set theory. We also discuss the extension of the BKR operator and inequality, from 2 events to 2 or more events, and we remove, in one sense, the hypothesis that $d$ be finite.
The asymptotic log-Harnack inequality is established for several different models of stochastic differential systems with infinite memory: non-degenerate SDEs, Neutral SDEs, semi-linear SPDEs, and stochastic Hamiltonian systems. As applications, the following properties are derived for the associated segment Markov semigroups: asymptotic heat kernel estimate; uniqueness of the invariant probability measure; asymptotic gradient estimate and hence, asymptotically strong Feller property; and asymptotic irreducibilty.
We provide variants and improvements of the Brascamp-Lieb variance inequality which take into account the invariance properties of the underlying measure. This is applied to spectral gap estimates for log-concave measures with many symmetries and to non-interacting conservative spin systems.
We prove Cameron-Martin type quasi-invariance results for the heat kernel measure of infinite-dimensional Kolmogorov and related diffusions. We first study quantitative functional inequalities for appropriate finite-dimensional approximations of these diffusions, and we prove these inequalities hold with dimension-independent coefficients. Applying an approach developed by Baudoin, Driver, Gordina, and Melcher previously, these uniform bounds may then be used to prove that the heat kernel measure for certain of these infinite-dimensional diffusions is quasi-invariant under changes of the initi…
We are interested in the Logarithmic Sobolev Inequality for the infinite volume Gibbs measure with no quadratic interactions. We consider unbounded spin systems on the one dimensional Lattice with interactions that go beyond the usual strict convexity and without uniform bound on the second derivative. We assume that the one dimensional single-site measure with boundaries satisfies the Log-Sobolev inequality uniformly on the boundary conditions and we determine conditions under which the Log-Sobolev Inequality can be extended to the infinite volume Gibbs measure.
The quasi-invariance is proved for the distributions of Poisson point processes under a random shift map on the path space. This leads to a natural Dirichlet form of jump type on the path space. Differently from the O-U Dirichlet form on the Wiener space satisfying the log-Sobolev inequality, this Dirichlet form merely satisfies the Poincare inequality but not the log-Sobolev one.
As an alternative to the well-known methods of "chaining" and "bracketing" that have been developed in the study of random fields, a new method, which is based on a stochastic maximal inequality derived by using the Taylor expansion, is presented. The inequality dealing with finite-dimensional discrete-time martingales is pulled up to infinite-dimensional ones by using the monotone convergence arguments. The main results are some weak convergence theorems for sequences of separable random fields of discrete-time martingales under the uniform topology with the help also of entropy methods. As s…
In this paper, a fourth moment bound for partial sums of functional of strongly ergodic Markov chain is established. This type of inequality plays an important role in the study of empirical process invariance principle. This one is specially adapted to the technique of Dehling, Durieu and Volný (2008). The same moment bound can be proved for dynamical system whose transfer operator has some spectral properties. Examples of applications are given.
We consider suitable weak solutions of 2-dimensional Euler equations on bounded domains, and show that the class of completely random measures is infinitesimally invariant for the dynamics. Space regularity of samples of these random fields falls outside of the well-posedness regime of the PDE under consideration, so it is necessary to resort to stochastic integrals with respect to the candidate invariant measure in order to give a definition of the dynamics. Our findings generalize and unify previous results on Gaussian stationary solutions of Euler equations and point vortex dynamics. We als…
As an alternative to the well-known methods of "chaining" and "bracketing" that have been developed in the study of random fields, a new method, which is based on a {\em stochastic maximal inequality} derived by using the formula for integration by parts and on a new concept named {\em strict countability}, is presented. The main results are some weakconvergence theorems for sequences of separable random fields of discrete-time martingales under the uniform topology with the help also of entropy methods. As special cases, some new results for i.i.d.\ random sequences, including a new Donsker t…
For any $N\ge 2$ and $å:=(å_1,\cdots, å_{N+1})\in (0,\infty)^{N+1}$, let $μ^{(N)}_å$ be the corresponding Dirichlet distribution on $\DD:= \big\{ x=(x_i)_{1\le i\le N}\in [0,1]^N:\ \sum_{1\le i\le N} x_i\le 1\big\}.$ We prove the Poincaré inequality $$μ^{(N)}_å(f^2)\le \ff 1 {å_{N+1}} \int_{\DD}\Big\{\Big(1-\sum_{1\le i\le N} x_i\Big) \sum_{n=1}^N x_n(\pp_n f)^2\Big\}μ^{(N)}_å(\d x)+μ^{(N)}_å(f)^2,\ f\in C^1(\DD)$$ and show that the constant $\ff 1 {å_{N+1}}$ is sharp. Consequently, the associated diffusion process on $\DD$ converges to $μ^{(N)}_å$ in $L^2(μ^{(N)}_å)$ at the exponentially rate…
A finite horizon optimal stopping problem for an infinite dimensional diffusion $X$ is analyzed by means of variational techniques. The diffusion is driven by a SDE on a Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$ with a non-linear diffusion coefficient $σ(X)$ and a generic unbounded operator $A$ in the drift term. When the gain function $Θ$ is time-dependent and fulfils mild regularity assumptions, the value function $\mathcal{U}$ of the optimal stopping problem is shown to solve an infinite-dimensional, parabolic, degenerate variational inequality on an unbounded domain. Once the coefficient $σ(X)$ is speci…
This paper presents a novel method for computing certain particle locations in the multi-species $q$-TAZRP (totally asymmetric zero range process). The method is based on a decomposition of the process into its discrete-time embedded Markov chain, which is described more generally as a monotone process on a graded partially ordered set; and an independent family of exponential random variables. A further ingredient is explicit contour integral formulas for the transition probabilities of the $q$-TAZRP. The main result of this method is a shift invariance for the multi-species $q$-TAZRP on the …
A sharp Poincaré-type inequality is derived for the restriction of the Gaussian measure on the boundary of a convex set. In particular, it implies a Gaussian mean-curvature inequality and a Gaussian iso second-variation inequality. The new inequality is nothing but an infinitesimal form of Ehrhard's inequality for the Gaussian measure.
We investigate unbounded continuous spin-systems with infinite-range interactions. We develop a new technique for deducing decay of correlations from a uniform Poincaré inequality based on a directional Poincaré inequality, which we derive through an averaging procedure. We show that this decay of correlations is equivalent to the Dobrushin-Shlosman mixing condition. With this, we also state and provide a partial answer to a conjecture regarding the relationship between the relaxation rates of non-ferromagnetic and ferromagnetic systems. Finally, we show that for a symmetric, ferromagnetic sys…
We consider a stationary and ergodic random field $\{ω(e) : e \in E_d\}$ that is parameterized by the edge set of the Euclidean lattice $\mathbb{Z}^d$, $d \geq 2$. The random variable $ω(e)$, taking values in $[0, \infty)$ and satisfying certain moment bounds, is thought of as the conductance of the edge $e$. Assuming that the set of edges with positive conductances give rise to a unique infinite cluster $\mathcal{C}_{\infty}(ω)$, we prove a quenched invariance principle for the continuous-time random walk among random conductances under relatively mild conditions on the structure of the infin…
We consider the simple random walk on the (unique) infinite cluster of super-critical bond percolation in $\Z^d$ with $d\ge2$. We prove that, for almost every percolation configuration, the path distribution of the walk converges weakly to that of non-degenerate, isotropic Brownian motion. Our analysis is based on the consideration of a harmonic deformation of the infinite cluster on which the random walk becomes a square-integrable martingale. The size of the deformation, expressed by the so called corrector, is estimated by means of ergodicity arguments.
For the infinite-dimensional extension of the Dirichlet distribution, the super Poincare inequality does not hold based on the result in [14], so we establish the weighted super Poincare inequalities for this measure with respect to two different Dirichlet forms respectively.
Consider the radial nonlinear wave equation $-\partial_t^2 u + Δu = u^3$, $u :\mathbb{R}_t \times \mathbb{R}_x^3 \to \mathbb{R}$, $u(t,x) = u(t,|x|)$. In this paper, we construct a Gibbs measure for this system and prove its invariance under the flow of the NLW. In particular, we are in the infinite volume setting. For the finite volume analogue, specifically on the unit ball with zero boundary values, an invariant Gibbs measure was constructed by Burq, Tvetkov, and de Suzzoni as a Borel measure on super-critical Sobolev spaces. In this paper, we advocate that the finite volume Gibbs measure b…
In this paper, a simplified second-order Gaussian Poincaré inequality for normal approximation of functionals over infinitely many Rademacher random variables is derived. It is based on a new bound for the Kolmogorov distance between a general Rademacher functional and a Gaussian random variable, which is established by means of the discrete Malliavin-Stein method and is of independent interest. As an application, the number of vertices with prescribed degree and the subgraph counting statistic in the Erdös-Rényi random graph are discussed. The number of vertices of fixed degree is also studie…
Consider an infinite sequence $(U_n)_{n\in\mathbb{N}}$ of independent Cauchy random variables, defined by a sequence $(δ_n)_{n\in\mathbb{N}}$ of location parameters and a sequence $(γ_n)_{n\in\mathbb{N}}$ of scale parameters. Let $(W_n)_{n\in\mathbb{N}}$ be another infinite sequence of independent Cauchy random variables defined by the same sequence of location parameters and the sequence $(σ_nγ_n)_{n\in\mathbb{N}}$ of scale parameters, with $σ_n\neq 0$ for all $n\in\mathbb{N}$. Using a result of Kakutani on equivalence of countably infinite product measures, we show that the laws of $(U_n)_{n…
We assume one site measures without a boundary $e^{-ϕ(x)}dx/Z$ that satisfy a log-Sobolev inequality. We prove that if these measures are perturbed with quadratic interactions, then the associated infinite dimensional Gibbs measure on the lattice always satisfies a log-Sobolev inequality. Furthermore, we present examples of measures that satisfy the inequality with a phase that goes beyond convexity at infinity.
We show that the classical de Finetti theorem has a canonical noncommutative counterpart if we strengthen `exchangeability' (i.e., invariance of the joint distribution of the random variables under the action of the permutation group) to invariance under the action of the quantum permutation group. More precisely, for an infinite sequence of noncommutative random variables, we prove that invariance of their joint distribution under quantum permutations is equivalent to the fact that the random variables are identically distributed and free with respect to the conditional expectation onto their…
