We study the spectrum of the cohomology rings of cocommutative Hopf superalgebras, restricted and non-restricted Lie superalgebras, and finite supergroup schemes. We also investigate support varieties in these settings and demonstrate that they have the desirable properties of such a theory. We completely characterize support varieties for finite supergroup schemes over algebraically closed fields of characteristic zero, while for non-restricted Lie superalgebras we obtain results in positive characteristic that are strikingly similar to results of Duflo and Serganova in characteristic zero. Our computations for restricted Lie superalgebras and infinitesimal supergroup schemes provide natural generalizations of foundational results of Friedlander and Parshall and of Bendel, Friedlander, and Suslin in the classical setting.
In this paper we describe an approach to generalise minimal representations to the super setting for Lie superalgebras obtained from Jordan superalgebras using the TKK construction. This approach was used successfully to construct a Fock model, a Schrödinger model and intertwining Segal-Bargmann transform for the orthosymplectic Lie supergroup $\mathop{OSp}(p,q|2n)$ and the exceptional Lie supergroup $\mathbb{D}(2,1;α)$. We also describe some obstacles to use this approach for the periplectic and queer Lie superalgebras.
In this paper the authors study the behavior of the sheaf cohomology functors $R^{\bullet}\text{ind}_{B}^{G}(-)$ where $G$ is an algebraic group scheme corresponding to a simple classical Lie superalgebra and $B$ is a BBW parabolic subgroup as defined by D. Grantcharov, N. Grantcharov, Nakano and Wu. We provide a systematic treatment that allows us to study the behavior of these cohomology groups $R^{\bullet}\text{ind}_{B}^{G}L_{\mathfrak f}(λ)$ where $L_{\mathfrak f}(λ)$ is an irreducible representation for the detecting subalgebra ${\mathfrak f}$. In particular, we prove an analog of Kempf's…
We investigate the notion of real form of complex Lie superalgebras and supergroups, both in the standard and graded version. Our functorial approach allows most naturally to go from the superalgebra to the supergroup and retrieve the real forms as fixed points, as in the ordinary setting. We also introduce a more general notion of compact real form for Lie superalgebras and supergroups, and we prove some existence results for Lie superalgebras that are simple contragredient and their associated connected simply connected supergroups.
We show that every connected affine algebraic supergroup defined over a field k, with diagonalizable maximal torus and whose tangent Lie superalgebra is a k-form of a complex simple Lie superalgebra of classical type is a Chevalley supergroup, as it is defined and constructed explicitly in [R. Fioresi, F. Gavarini, "Chevalley Supergroups", Memoirs of the AMS 215 (2012), no. 1014].
We prove that the cohomology ring of a finite-dimensional restricted Lie superalgebra over a field of characteristic $p > 2$ is a finitely-generated algebra. Our proof makes essential use of the explicit projective resolution of the trivial module constructed by J. Peter May for any graded restricted Lie algebra. We then prove that the cohomological finite generation problem for finite supergroup schemes over fields of odd characteristic reduces to the existence of certain conjectured universal extension classes for the general linear supergroup $GL(m|n)$ that are similar to the universal exte…
Let $G=GL(m|n)$ be the general linear supergroup over an algebraically closed field $K$ of characteristic zero and let $G_{ev}=GL(m)\times GL(n)$ be its even subsupergroup. The induced supermodule $H^0_G(λ)$, corresponding to a dominant weight $λ$ of $G$, can be represented as $H^0_{G_{ev}}(λ)\otimes Λ(Y)$, where $Y=V_m^*\otimes V_n$ is a tensor product of the dual of the natural $GL(m)$-module $V_m$ and the natural $GL(n)$-module $V_n$, and $Λ(Y)$ is the exterior algebra of $Y$. For a dominant weight $λ$ of $G$, we construct explicit $G_{ev}$-primitive vectors in $H^0_G(λ)$. Related to this, …
We construct two infinite-dimensional irreducible representations for $D(2,1;α)$: a Schrödinger model and a Fock model. Further, we also introduce an intertwining isomorphism. These representations are similar to the minimal representations constructed for the orthosymplectic Lie supergroup and for Hermitian Lie groups of tube type. The intertwining isomorphism is the analogue of the Segal-Bargmann transform for the orthosymplectic Lie supergroup and for Hermitian Lie groups of tube type.
We construct a minimal representation of the orthosymplectic Lie supergroup $OSp(p,q|2n)$, generalising the Schrödinger model of the minimal representation of $O(p,q)$ to the super case. The underlying Lie algebra representation is realized on functions on the minimal orbit inside the Jordan superalgebra associated with $\mathfrak{osp}(p,q|2n)$, so that our construction is in line with the orbit philosophy. Its annihilator is given by a Joseph-like ideal for $\mathfrak{osp}(p,q|2n)$, and therefore the representation is a natural generalization of a minimal representations to the context of Lie…
In the framework of algebraic supergeometry, we give a construction of the scheme-theoretic supergeometric analogue of Chevalley groups, namely affine algebraic supergroups associated to simple Lie superalgebras of classical type. In particular both basic (even exceptional) and strange cases are covered. This provides a unified approach to most of the algebraic supergroups considered so far in literature, and an effective method to construct new ones. As an intermediate step, we prove an existence theorem for Chevalley bases of simple classical Lie superalgebras and a PBW-like theorem for thei…
We construct a Fock model of the minimal representation of the exceptional Lie supergroup $\mathbb{D}(2,1, α)$. Explicit expressions for the action are given by integrating to group level a Fock model of the Lie superalgebra $D(2,1, α)$ constructed earlier by the authors. It is also shown that the representation is superunitary in the sense of de Goursac--Michel.
We describe explicitly the Grothendieck rings of finite-dimensional representations of the periplectic Lie superalgebras. In particular, the Grothendieck ring of the Lie supergroup $P(n)$ is isomorphic to the ring of symmetric polynomials in $x_1^{\pm 1}, \ldots, x_n^{\pm 1}$ whose evaluation $x_1=x_2^{-1}=t$ is independent of $t$.
We give a combinatorial construction for the canonical bases of the $\pm$-parts of the quantum enveloping superalgebra $\bfU(\mathfrak{gl}_{m|n})$ and discuss their relationship with the Kazhdan-Lusztig bases for the quantum Schur superalgebras $\bsS(m|n,r)$ introduced in \cite{DR}. We will also extend this relationship to the induced bases for simple polynomial representations of $\bfU(\mathfrak{gl}_{m|n})$.
We determine the Grothendieck rings of the category of finite-dimensional modules over Queer Lie superalgebras via their rings of characters. In particular, we show that the ring of characters of the Queer Lie supergroup $Q(n)$ is isomorphic to the ring of Laurent polynomials in $x_{1},\ldots,x_{n}$ for which the evaluation $x_{n-1}=-x_{n}=t$ is independent of $t$. We thus complete the description of Grothendieck rings for all classical Lie superalgebras.
Quantum homogeneous supervector bundles arising from the quantum general linear supergoup are studied. The space of holomorphic sections is promoted to a left exact covariant functor from a category of modules over a quantum parabolic sub-supergroup to the category of locally finite modules of the quantum general linear supergroup. The right derived functors of this functor provides a form of Dolbeault cohomology for quantum homogeneous supervector bundles. We explicitly compute the cohomology groups, which are given in terms of well understood modules over the quantized universal enveloping a…
By using certain quantum differential operators, we construct a super representation for the quantum queer supergroup U_v(q_n). The underlying space of this representation is a deformed polynomial superalgebra in 2n^2 variables whose homogeneous components can be used as the underlying spaces of queer q-Schur superalgebras. We then extend the representation to its formal power series algebra which contains a (super) submodule isomorphic to the regular representation of U_v(q_n). A monomial basis M for U_v(q_n) plays a key role in proving the isomorphism. In this way, we may present the quantum…
Atypicality is a fundamental combinatorial invariant for simple supermodules of a basic Lie superalgebra. Boe, Nakano, and the author gave a conjectural geometric interpretation of atypicality via support varieties. Inspired by low dimensional topology, Geer, Patureau-Mirand, and the author gave a generalization of the Kac-Wakimoto atypicality conjecture. We prove both of these conjectures for the Lie superalgebra osp(m|2n).
Support varieties for Lie superalgebras over the complex numbers were introduced in \cite{BKN1} using the relative cohomology. In this paper we discuss finite generation of the relative cohomology rings for Lie superalgebras, we formulate a definition for subalgebras which detect the cohomology, also discuss realizability of support varieties. In the last section as an application we compute the relative cohomology ring of the Lie superalgebra $\overline{S}(n)$ relative to the graded zero component $\overline{S}(n)_0$ and show that this ring is finitely generated. We also compute support varie…
Boe, Kujawa and Nakano recently investigated relative cohomology for classical Lie superalgebras and developed a theory of support varieties. The dimensions of these support varieties give a geometric interpretation of the combinatorial notions of defect and atypicality due to Kac, Wakimoto, and Serganova. In this paper we calculate the cohomology ring of the Cartan type Lie superalgebra W(n) relative to the degree zero component W(n)_{0} and show that this ring is a finitely generated polynomial ring. This allows one to define support varieties for finite dimensional W(n)-supermodules which a…
Let $mathfrak{g}$ be a restricted Lie superalgebra over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $p>2$. Let $\mathfrak{u}(\mathfrak{g})$ denote the restricted enveloping algebra of $\mathfrak{g}$. In this paper we prove that the cohomology ring $\HH^\bullet(\fu(\fg), k)$ is finitely generated. This allows one to define support varieties for finite dimensional $\fu(\fg)$-supermodules. We also show that support varieties for finite dimensional $\fu(\fg)$ supermodules satisfy the desirable properties of support variety theory.
We develop a support theory for elementary supergroup schemes, over a field of positive characteristic $p\ge 3$, starting with a definition of a $π$-point generalising cyclic shifted subgroups of Carlson for elementary abelian groups and $π$-points of Friedlander and Pevtsova for finite group schemes. These are defined in terms of maps from the graded algebra $k[t,τ]/(t^p-τ^2)$, where $t$ has even degree and $τ$ has odd degree. The strength of the theory is demonstrated by classifying the parity change invariant localising subcategories of the stable module category of an elementary supergroup…
In \cite{BKN} the authors initiated a study of the representation theory of classical Lie superalgebras via a cohomological approach. Detecting subalgebras were constructed and a theory of support varieties was developed. The dimension of a detecting subalgebra coincides with the defect of the Lie superalgebra and the dimension of the support variety for a simple supermodule was conjectured to equal the atypicality of the supermodule. In this paper the authors compute the support varieties for Kac supermodules for Type I Lie superalgebras and the simple supermodules for $\mathfrak{gl}(m|n)$. T…
We show that if $G$ is an infinitesimal elementary supergroup scheme of height $\leq r$, then the cohomological spectrum $|G|$ of $G$ is naturally homeomorphic to the variety $\mathcal{N}_r(G)$ of supergroup homomorphisms $ρ: \mathbb{M}_r \rightarrow G$ from a certain (non-algebraic) affine supergroup scheme $\mathbb{M}_r$ into $G$. In the case $r=1$, we further identify the cohomological support variety of a finite-dimensional $G$-supermodule $M$ as a subset of $\mathcal{N}_1(G)$. We then discuss how our methods, when combined with recently-announced results by Benson, Iyengar, Krause, and Pe…
A Chevalley type integral basis for the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebra is constructed. The simple modules of the ortho-symplectic supergroup over an algebraically closed field of prime characteristic not equal to 2 are classified, where a key combinatorial ingredient comes from the Mullineux conjecture on modular representations of the symmetric group. A Steinberg tensor product theorem for the ortho-symplectic supergroup is also obtained.
Let g=g_{0} \oplus g_{1} be a classical Lie superalgebra and F be the category of finite dimensional g-supermodules which are semisimple over g_{0}. In this paper we investigate the homological properties of the category F. In particular we prove that F is self-injective in the sense that all projective supermodules are injective. We also show that all supermodules in F admit a projective resolution with polynomial rate of growth and, hence, one can study complexity in F. If g is a Type I Lie superalgebra we introduce support varieties which detect projectivity and are related to the associate…
We investigate cohomological support varieties for finite-dimensional Lie superalgebras defined over fields of odd characteristic. Verifying a conjecture from our previous work, we show the support variety of a finite-dimensional supermodule can be realized as an explicit subset of the odd nullcone of the underlying Lie superalgebra. We also show the support variety of a finite-dimensional supermodule is zero if and only if the supermodule is of finite projective dimension. As a consequence, we obtain a positive characteristic version of a theorem of Bøgvad, showing that if a finite-dimensiona…
We investigate a new cohomology of Lie superalgebras, which may be compared to a de Rham cohomology of Lie supergroups involving both differential and integral forms. It is defined by a BRST complex of Lie superalgebra modules, which is formulated in terms of a Weyl superalgebra and incorporates inequivalent representations of the bosonic Weyl subalgebra. The new cohomology includes the standard Lie superalgebra cohomology as a special case. Examples of new cohomology groups are computed.
We compute the complexity, z-complexity, and support varieties of the (thick) Kac modules for the Lie superalgebras of type P. We also show the complexity and the z-complexity have geometric interpretations in terms of support and associated varieties; these results are in agreement with formulas previously discovered for other classes of Lie superalgebras. Our main technical tool is a recursive algorithm for constructing projective resolutions for the Kac modules. The indecomposable projective summands which appear in a given degree of the resolution are explicitly described using the combina…
A semisimple algebraic tensor category over an algebraically closed field k of characteristic zero is the representation category of all finite dimensional twisted super representations of an affine reductive supergroup G over k. Such a supergroup is reductive if and only if its connected component is reductive. The connected component is reductive if and only if the Lie superalgebra divided by its center is a product of simple Lie algebras of classical type and Lie superalgebras spo(1,2r) of the orthosymplectic types BC_r.
This work was inspired by two natural questions. The first question is when Lie(G')=Lie(G)', where G is a connected algebraic supergroup defined over a field of characteristic zero. The second question is whether the unipotent radical of any normal supersubgroup H of G coincides with the intersection of H and G_u, where G_u is the unipotent radical of G. Both questions have affirmative answers in the category of algebraic groups (in the second case one has to assume additionally that G and H are reduced whenever char K >0). Surprisingly, using the technique of Harish-Chandra superpairs and a c…
Let $\ggg=\ggg_\bz+\ggg_\bo$ be a basic classical Lie superalgebra over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $p>2$, and $G$ be an algebraic supergroup satisfying $\Lie(G)=\ggg$, with the purely even subgroup $G_\ev$ which is a reductive group. The center $\cz:=\cz(\ggg)$ of the universal enveloping algebra of $\ggg$ easily turns out to be a domain. In this paper, we prove that the quotient field of $\cz$ coincides with that of the subalgebra generated by the $G_{\ev}$-invariant ring $\cz^{G_\ev}$ of $\cz$ and the $p$-center $\cz_0$ of $U(\ggg_\bz)$.
We investigate support schemes for infinitesimal unipotent supergroups and their representations. Our main results provide a non-cohomological description of these schemes which generalizes the classical work of Suslin, Friedlander, and Bendel. As a consequence, support schemes in this setting have the desired features of such a theory, including naturality with respect to group homomorphisms, the tensor product property, and realizability. As an application of the theory developed here, we investigate support varieties for certain finite-dimensional Hopf subalgebras of the Steenrod algebra.
I present a construction of connected affine algebraic supergroups G_V associated with simple Lie superalgebras g of Cartan type and with g-modules V. Conversely, I prove that every connected affine algebraic supergroup whose tangent Lie superalgebra is of Cartan type is necessarily isomorphic to one of the supergroups G_V that I introduced. In particular, the supergroup constructed in this way associated with g := W(n) and its standard representation is described somewhat more in detail. In addition, *** an "Erratum" is added here *** after the main text to fix a mistake which was kindly poin…
In this paper we compute extension groups in the category of strict polynomial superfunctors and thereby exhibit certain "universal extension classes" for the general linear supergroup. Some of these classes restrict to the universal extension classes for the general linear group exhibited by Friedlander and Suslin, while others arise from purely super phenomena. We then use these extension classes to show that the cohomology ring of a finite supergroup scheme---equivalently of a finite-dimensional cocommutative Hopf superalgebra---over a field is a finitely-generated algebra. Implications for…
Let $\FRAK{g}$ be a classical simple Lie superalgebra. To every nilpotent orbit $\cal O$ in $\FRAK{g}_0$ we associate a Clifford algebra over the field of rational functions on $\cal O$. We find the rank, $k(\cal O)$ of the bilinear form defining this Clifford algebra, and deduce a lower bound on the multiplicity of a $U(\FRAK{g})$-module with $\cal O$ or an orbital subvariety of $\cal O$ as associated variety. In some cases we obtain modules where the lower bound on multiplicity is attained using parabolic induction. The invariant $k(\cal O)$ is in many cases, equal to the odd dimension of th…
We consider a generalization of Donkin-Koppinen filtrations for coordinate superalgebras of general linear supergroups. More precisely, if $G=GL(m|n)$ is a general linear supergroup of (super)degree $(m|n)$, then its coordinate superalgebra $K[G]$ is a natural $G\times G$-supermodule. For every finitely generated ideal $Γ\subseteq Λ\timesΛ$, the largest subsupermodule $O_Γ(K[G])$ of $K[G]$, which has all composition factors of the form $L(λ)\otimes L(μ)$ where $(λ, μ)\inΓ$, has a decreasing filtration $O_Γ(K[G])=V_0\supseteq V_1\supseteq...$ such that $\bigcap_{t\geq 0}V_t=0$ and $V_t/V_{t+1}\…
We introduce the spinor representations for osp(m|2n). These generalize the spinors for so(m) and the symplectic spinors for sp(2n) and correspond to representations of the supergroup with supergroup pair (Spin(m) x Mp(2n),osp(m|2n)). We prove that these spinor spaces are uniquely characterized as the completely pointed osp(m|2n)-modules. Then the tensor product of this representation with irreducible finite dimensional osp(m|2n)-modules is studied. Therefore we derive a criterion for complete reducibility of tensor product representations. We calculate the decomposition into irreducible osp(m…
We develop the non-commutative polynomial version of the invariant theory for the quantum general linear supergroup ${\rm{ U}}_q(\mathfrak{gl}_{m|n})$. A non-commutative ${\rm{ U}}_q(\mathfrak{gl}_{m|n})$-module superalgebra $\mathcal{P}^{k|l}_{\,r|s}$ is constructed, which is the quantum analogue of the supersymmetric algebra over $\mathbb{C}^{k|l}\otimes \mathbb{C}^{m|n}\oplus \mathbb{C}^{r|s}\otimes (\mathbb{C}^{m|n})^{\ast}$. We analyse the structure of the subalgebra of ${\rm{ U}}_q(\mathfrak{gl}_{m|n})$-invariants in $\mathcal{P}^{k|l}_{\,r|s}$ by using the quantum super analogue of Howe…
We study cohomology for classical Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{g}$ (e.g. gl(m|n)) over the complex numbers. Using results from invariant theory, we show that there exist subsuperalgebras which detect the cohomology of $\mathfrak{g}.$ Furthermore, drawing inspiration from finite groups and restricted Lie algebras, we introduce the notion of support varieties in this context. One can prove these varieties have many of the desirable properties of such a theory. They also appear to provide new interpretations for certain combinatorics associated with Lie superalgebras.
Let $\bar{G}$ be the simple algebraic supergroup $\mathrm{SL}(m|n)$ or $\mathrm{OSp}(m|2n)$ over $\mathbb{C}$. Let $\mathfrak{g}=\mathrm{Lie}(\bar{G})=\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{0}}\oplus\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{1}}$ and let $G=\bar{G}(\mathbb{C})$ where $\mathbb{C}$ is considered as a superalgebra concentrated in even degree. Suppose $e\in\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{0}}$ is nilpotent. We describe the centralizer $\mathfrak{g}^{e}$ of $e$ in $\mathfrak{g}$ and its centre $\mathfrak{z}(\mathfrak{g}^{e})$. In particular, we give bases for $\mathfrak{g}^{e}$, $\mathfrak{z}(\mathfrak{g}^{e})$ and $\left(\mathfrak{z}(\ma…
Birational equivalence of the Zassenhaus varieties for basic classical Lie superalgebras and their purely-even reductive Lie subalgebras in odd characteristic
Let k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic p> 0. For a basic classical Lie superalgebra, we show its restricted cohomology algebra is a finitely generated algebra. Thus the cohomological support theory can be established. As a consequence, we show that the restricted enveloping algebra of a basic classical Lie superalgebra g is always wild except g=sl(2) or g=osp(1|2) or g=C(2). Moreover, all finite dimensional indecomposable restricted representations of u(osp(1|2)), the restricted enveloping algebra of Lie superalgebra osp(1|2), are determined.
The standard format of matrices belonging to Lie superalgebras consists of partitioning the matrices into even and odd blocks. In this paper, we study other possible matrix formats and in particular the so-called diagonal format which naturally occurs in various applications, e.g. in superconformal field theory, superintegrable models, for super W-algebras and quantum supergroups.
We review recent works concerning deformation quantization of abelian supergroups. Indeed, we expose the construction of an induced representation of the Heisenberg supergroup and an associated pseudodifferential calculus by using Kirillov's orbits method. Then, a star-product is built on the abelian supergroup R^{m|n} together with a universal deformation formula for its actions. Using topological Hopf algebras, we reformulate this deformation as a continuous twist on comodule-algebras. We also introduce the notion of C*-superalgebra which is natural and compatible with the deformation. Final…
We study stabilization of finite-dimensional representations of the periplectic Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{p}(n)$ as $n \to \infty$. The paper gives a construction of the tensor category $Rep(\underline{P})$, possessing nice universal properties among tensor categories over the category $\mathtt{sVect}$ of finite-dimensional complex vector superspaces. First, it is the "abelian envelope" of the Deligne category corresponding to the periplectic Lie superalgebra, in the sense of arXiv:1511.07699. Secondly, given a tensor category $\mathcal{C}$ over $\mathtt{sVect}$, exact tensor functors $Rep(…
The author establishes finite-generation of the cohomology ring of a classical Lie superalgebra relative to an even subsuperalgebra. A spectral sequence is constructed to provide conditions for when this relative cohomology ring is Cohen-Macaulay. With finite generation established, support varieties for modules are defined via the relative cohomology, which generalize those of [BKN-1]
In this paper the authors introduce a class of parabolic subalgebras for classical simple Lie superalgebras associated to the detecting subalgebras introduced by Boe, Kujawa and Nakano. These parabolic subalgebras are shown to have good cohomological properties governed by the Bott-Borel-Weil theorem involving the zero component of the Lie superalgebra in conjunction with the odd roots. These results are later used to verify an open conjecture given by Boe, Kujawa and Nakano pertaining to the equality of various support varieties.
In this paper we use invariant theory to develop the notion of cohomological detection for Type I classical Lie superalgebras. In particular we show that the cohomology with coefficients in an arbitrary module can be detected on smaller subalgebras. These results are used later to affirmatively answer questions, which were originally posed in \cite{BKN1} and \cite{BaKN}, about realizing support varieties for Lie superalgebras via rank varieties constructed for the smaller detecting subalgebras.
Extending ideas of twisted equivariant $K$-theory, we construct twisted versions of the representation rings for Lie superalgebras and Lie supergroups, built from projective $\Z_{2}$-graded representations with a given cocycle. We then investigate the pullback and pushforward maps on these representation rings (and their completions) associated to homomorphisms of Lie superalgebras and Lie supergroups. As an application, we consider the Lie supergroup $Π(T^{*}G)$, obtained by taking the cotangent bundle of a compact Lie group and reversing the parity of its fibers. An inclusion $H \hookrightar…
We show that the linear strands of the Tor of determinantal varieties in spaces of symmetric and skew-symmetric matrices are irreducible representations for the periplectic (strange) Lie superalgebra. The structure of these linear strands is explicitly known, so this gives an explicit realization of some representations of the periplectic Lie superalgebra. This complements results of Pragacz and Weyman, who showed an analogous statement for the generic determinantal varieties and the general linear Lie superalgebra. We also give a simpler proof of their result. Via Koszul duality, this is an o…
