Motivated by its well defined higher dimensional origin, a detailed study of $D=4$ $\mathcal{N}=8$ supergravity with a dyonically gauged $\textrm{ISO}(7) = \textrm{SO}(7) \ltimes \mathbb{R}^7$ gauge group is performed. We write down the Lagrangian and describe the tensor and duality hierarchies, focusing on an interesting subsector with closed field equations and supersymmetry transformations. We then truncate the $\mathcal{N}=8$ theory to some smaller sectors with $\mathcal{N}=2$ and $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetry and SU(3), $\textrm{G}_2$ and SO(4) bosonic symmetry. Canonical and superpotential formulations for these sectors are given, and their vacuum structure and spectra is analysed. Unlike the purely electric ISO(7) gauging, the dyonic gauging displays a rich structure of vacua, all of them AdS. We recover all previously known ones and find a new $\mathcal{N}=1$ vacuum with SU(3) symmetry and various non-supersymmetric vacua, all of them stable within the full $\mathcal{N}=8$ theory.
Magnetic and Dyonic solutions are constructed for the theory of abelian gauged N=2 gauged four dimensional supergravity coupled to vector multiplets. The solutions found preserve 1/4 of the supersymmetry.
We study supersymmetric Janus solutions of dyonic $ISO(7)$-gauged $\mathcal{N}$ = 8 supergravity. We mostly find Janus solutions flowing to 3d $\mathcal{N}$ = 8 SYM phase which is the worldvolume theory on D2-branes and non-conformal. There are also solutions flowing from the critical points which are dual to 3d SCFTs from deformations of the D2-brane theory.
We identify 219 AdS$_4$ solutions in four-dimensional dyonically gauged ISO(7) $\mathcal{N}=8$ supergravity and present some of their properties. One of the new solutions preserves $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetry and provides a rare explicit example of an AdS$_4$ vacuum dual to a 3d SCFT with no continuous global symmetry. There are also two new non-supersymmetric solutions for which all 70 scalar fields in the supergravity theory have masses above the BF bound. All of these AdS$_4$ solutions can be uplifted to massive type IIA supergravity. Motivated by this we present the low lying operator sp…
Recently a new maximally supersymmetric, dyonically gauged supergravity in four-dimenions has been constructed. This theory admits several supersymmetric AdS solutions, and a Chern- Simons-matter dual theory has been proposed for a solution with an unbroken SU(3) symmetry. The gravity side and the field theory side of the free energy computation show nice agreements at superconformal point. With a view to a study of non-conformal deformations, in this paper we study a consistent truncation of the full theory where SU(3) is broken to U(1)$^2$. We elucidate the geometry of the scalar sector, and…
We revisit non-rotating, dyonically charged, and supersymmetric AdS$_4$ black holes, which are solutions of $\mathcal{N}=2$ gauged supergravity with vector- and hyper-multplets. Uplifting the near horizon solutions to $D=11$ supergravity on seven-dimensional Sasaki-Einstein manifolds, we show that dyonic AdS$_4$ black holes correspond to AdS$_2$ solutions with electric and magnetic baryonic fluxes in $D=11$ supergravity. We identify the off-shell AdS$_4$ black hole solutions with parameters of $D=11$ AdS$_2$ solutions without imposing the equations of motion. We calculate the entropy of dyonic…
We clarify the higher-dimensional origin of a class of dyonic gaugings of $D=4$ ${\cal N}=8$ supergravity recently discovered, when the gauge group is chosen to be ISO(7). This dyonically-gauged maximal supergravity arises from consistent truncation of massive IIA supergravity on $S^6$, and its magnetic coupling constant descends directly from the Romans mass. The critical points of the supergravity uplift to new AdS$_4$ massive type IIA vacua. We identify the corresponding CFT$_3$ duals as super-Chern-Simons-matter theories with simple gauge group SU$(N)$, with level $k$ given by the Romans m…
We systematically construct and study smooth supersymmetric solutions in 5 dimensional N=1 Yang-Mills-Einstein supergravity. Our solution is based on the ADHM construction of (dyonic) multi-instantons in Yang-Mills theory, which extends to the gravity-coupled system. In a simple supergravity model obtained from N=2 theory, our solutions are regular ring-like configurations, which can also be interpreted as supertubes. By studying the SU(2) 2-instanton example in detail, we find that angular momentum is maximized, with fixed electric charge, for circular rings. This feature is qualitatively sam…
In this paper we first give a simple parametrization of the scalar coset manifold of the only known anomaly free chiral gauged supergravity in six dimensions in the absence of linear multiplets, namely gauged minimal supergravity coupled to a tensor multiplet, E_6 x E_7 x U(1)_R Yang-Mills multiplets and suitable number of hypermultiplets. We then construct the potential for the scalars and show that it has a unique minimum at the origin. We also construct a new BPS dyonic string solution in which U(1)_R x U(1) gauge fields, in addition to the metric, dilaton and the 2-form potential, assume n…
We give a large class of new supersymmetric Janus solutions in dyonic $ISO(7)$ maximal gauged supergravity encompassing all known solutions appearing recently. We consider $SO(3)$ invariant sector in which the gauged supergravity admits four supersymmetric $AdS_4$ vacua with $N=1,1,2,3$ unbroken supersymmetries and $G_2$, $SU(3)$, $SU(3)\times U(1)$ and $SO(4)$ symmetries, respectively. We find Janus solutions preserving $N=1,2,3$ supersymmetries and interpolating between $AdS_4$ vacua and the $N=8$ SYM phase. These solutions can be interpreted as conformal interfaces between SYM and various c…
We present two new classes of dyonic anti-de Sitter black hole solutions of 4-dimensional maximal N=8, SO(8) gauged supergravity. They are: (1) static black holes of N=2, U(1)^4 gauged supergravity with 4 electric and 4 magnetic charges, with spherical, planar or hyperbolic horizons; and (2) rotating black holes of N=2, U(1)^2 gauged supergravity with 2 electric and 2 magnetic charges. We study their thermodynamics, and point out that the formulation of a consistent thermodynamics for dyonic anti-de Sitter black holes is dependent on the existence of boundary conditions for the gauge fields. W…
Dyonic gaugings of four-dimensional supergravity typically exhibit a richer vacuum structure compared to their purely electric counterparts, but their higher-dimensional origin often remains more mysterious. We consider a class of dyonic gaugings with gauge groups of the type (SO(p,q)xSO(p',q'))$\ltimes N$ with $N$ nilpotent. Using generalized Scherk-Schwarz reductions of exceptional field theory, we show how these four-dimensional gaugings may be consistently embedded in Type II supergravity upon compactification around products of spheres and hyperboloids. As an application, we give the expl…
We describe embeddings of a single D3-brane in generic IIB supergravity backgrounds when both electric and magnetic fields are turned on. As a particular application, we describe a dyonic D3-brane in AdS_5 x S^1, dual to 1/4 BPS states of N=4$ SYM.
We study thermodynamical properties of static dyonic AdS black holes in four-dimensional $ω$-deformed Kaluza-Klein gauged supergravity theory, and find that the differential first law requires a modification via introducing a new pair of thermodynamical conjugate variables (X, Y). To ensure such a modification, we then apply the quasi-local ADT formalism developed in Ref. [20] to calculate the quasi-local conserved charge and identify that the new pair is precisely the one previously introduced to modify the differential form of first law.
We consider a certain ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric, SO(3)$\times$SO(3) invariant, subsector of the dyonic ISO(7)-gauged maximal supergravity in four-dimensions. The theory contains two scalar fields and two pseudoscalar fields. We look for stationary points of the scalar potential, especially the one preserving ${\cal N}=3$ supersymmetry of the original ISO(7) gauged theory. The ${\cal N}=3$ stationary point corresponding to the $AdS$ vacuum in the $D=4$ theory is lifted to a warped $AdS_4\times X_6$ type solution in massive type IIA supergravity. This $D=10$ background should be the dual of a …
Explicit formulae are given for the consistent truncation of massive type IIA supergravity on the six-sphere to the SU(3)--invariant sector of $D=4$ ${\cal N}=8$ supergravity with dyonic ISO(7) gauging. These formulae are then used to construct AdS$_4$ solutions of massive type IIA via uplift on $S^6$ of the critical points of the $D=4$ supergravity with at least SU(3) symmetry. We find a new ${\cal N}=1$ solution with SU(3) symmetry, a new non-supersymmetric solution with SO(6) symmetry, and recover previously known solutions. We quantise the fluxes, calculate the gravitational free energies …
We prove the existence and the uniqueness of the static dyonic black holes in four dimensional $N=1$ supergravity theory coupled vector and scalar multiplets. We set the near-horizon geometry to be a product of two Einstein surfaces, whereas the asymptotic geometry has to be a space of constant scalar curvature. Using these data, we show that there exist a unique solution for scalar fields which interpolates these regions.
It was shown in arXiv:1410.7168 that compactifying $D=6$, $\mathcal{N}=(1,0)$ ungauged supergravity coupled to a single tensor multiplet on S$^3$ one gets a particular $D=3$, $\mathcal{N}=4$ gauged supergravity which is a consistent reduction. We construct two supersymmetric black string solutions in this 3-dimensional model with one and two active scalars respectively. Uplifting the first, one gets a dyonic string solution in $D=6$ that has been known for a long time. Whereas, uplifting the second solution, one finds a very interesting configuration where magnetic strings are located uniforml…
We consider theories of N=2 supergravity with Fayet-Iliopoulos gauging, and describe a procedure to obtain non-BPS extremal black hole solutions in asymptotically AdS_4 space, in a fully symplectic covariant framework. By considering both electric as well as magnetic gauging, we are able to find new extremal purely magnetic and dyonic solutions. We consistently impose the Dirac quantization condition as a constraint on the black hole and gravitinos charges. This additional requirement allows to parameterize the black hole entropy in terms of an integer and of the entropy of the corresponding b…
We study some aspects of spherical symmetric dyonic non-supersymmetric black holes in $4d \; N=1$ supergravity coupled to chiral and vector multiplets on Kähler-Ricci solitons. Then, we have a family of dyonic non-supersymmetric black holes deformed with respect to the flow parameter related to the Kähler-Ricci soliton, which possibly controls the nature of black holes, such as their asymptotic and near horizon geometries. Two types of black holes are discussed, namely a family of dyonic Reissner-Nordström-like black holes and Bertotti-Robinson-like black holes where the scalars are freezing a…
This short note provides (TensorFlow-based) numerical evidence for the embedability (in the limit of a scalar parameter going to infinity) of the scalar potential of dyonic N=8, D=4 SO(8) supergravity into the scalar potential of N=16, D=3 SO(8)xSO(8) supergravity. One finds that the dyonic $ω$-angle gets identified with the compact U(1) part of the SL(2) factor of the SL(2)xE7(7) subgroup of E8(8).
We construct non-extremal dyonic string solutions in 6D minimal supergravity where the leading higher derivative corrections arise from either the type IIA string theory compactified on K3 or the heterotic string theory compactified on 4-torus. The thermodynamical quantities and Euclidean actions of the strings are computed. In the near extremal regime, we calculate the force felt by a probe fundamental string in the background of the macroscopic dyonic string with leading $α'$ corrections. We find that in both the IIA and heterotic setups, away from extremality, the attractive force overwhelm…
We investigate the existence of supersymmetric static dyonic black holes with spherical horizon in the context of N= 2 U(1) gauged supergravity in four dimensions. We analyze the conditions for their existence and provide the general first-order flow equations driving the scalar fields and the metric warp factors from the asymptotic AdS4 geometry to the horizon. We work in a general duality-symmetric setup, which allows to describe both electric and magnetic gaugings. We also discuss the attractor mechanism and the issue of moduli (de-)stabilization.
In this paper we study several aspects of extremal spherical symmetric black hole solutions of four dimensional N=1 supergravity coupled to vector and chiral multiplets with the scalar potential turned on. In the asymptotic region the complex scalars are fixed and regular which can be viewed as the critical points of the black hole and the scalar potentials with vanishing scalar charges. It follows that the asymptotic geometries are of a constant and non-zero scalar curvature which are generally not Einstein. These spaces could also correspond to the near horizon geometries which are the produ…
We construct maximal supergravity in four dimensions with local scaling symmetry as deformation of the original Cremmer-Julia theory. The different theories which include the standard gaugings are parametrized by an embedding tensor carrying 56+912 parameters. We determine the form of the possible gauge groups and work out the complete set of field equations. As a result we obtain the most general couplings compatible with N=8 supersymmetry in four dimensions. A particular feature of these theories is the absence of an action and an additional positive contribution to the effective cosmologica…
The multi-vector generalization of a rigid, partially-broken $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric theory is presented as a rigid limit of a suitable gauged $\mathcal{N}=2$ supergravity with electric, magnetic charges and antisymmetric tensor fields. This on the one hand generalizes a known result by Ferrara, Girardello and Porrati while on the other hand allows to recover the multi-vector BI models from $\mathcal{N}=2$ supergravity as the end-point of a hierarchical limit in which the Planck mass first and then the supersymmetry breaking scale are sent to infinity. We define, in the parent supergrav…
We study one-loop divergences in Einstein-Maxwell theory and their implications for the weak gravity conjecture. In particular, we show that renormalization of these divergences leads to positivity of higher-derivative corrections to the charge-to-mass ratio of dyonic black holes. This allows charged extremal black holes to decay into smaller ones, and so the weak gravity conjecture is automatically satisfied. We also extend this analysis to a much wider class of Einstein-Maxwell theories coupled to additional massless matter fields and find the same result. We then go on to study one-loop div…
We derive the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy for a class of BPS black holes in the massive type IIA supergravity background AdS$_4 \times S^6$ from a microscopic counting of supersymmetric ground states in a holographically dual field theory. The counting is performed by evaluating the topologically twisted index of three-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ Chern-Simons-matter gauge theories in the large $N$ limit. The $\mathcal{I}$-extremization principle is shown to match the attractor mechanism for the near-horizon geometries constructed in the four-dimensional dyonic $\mathcal{N}=2$ gauged supergravit…
We revise the SU(3)-invariant sector of $\mathcal{N}=8$ supergravity with dyonic SO(8) gaugings. By using the embedding tensor formalism, analytic expressions for the scalar potential, superpotential(s) and fermion mass terms are obtained as a function of the electromagnetic phase $ω$ and the scalars in the theory. Equipped with these results, we explore non-supersymmetric AdS critical points at $ω\neq 0$ for which perturbative stability could not be analysed before. The $ω$-dependent superpotential is then used to derive first-order flow equations and obtain new BPS domain-wall solutions at $…
We find new non-supersymmetric solutions of five-dimensional ungauged supergravity coupled to two vector multiplets. The solutions are regular, horizonless and have the same asymptotic charges as non-extremal charged black holes. An essential ingredient in our construction is a four-dimensional Euclidean base which is a solution to Einstein-Maxwell equations. We construct stationary solutions based on the Euclidean dyonic Reissner-Nordstrom black hole as well as a six-parameter family with a dyonic Kerr-Newman-NUT base. These solutions can be viewed as compactifications of eleven-dimensional s…
In this article we study a family of four-dimensional, $\mathcal{N}=2$ supergravity theories that interpolates between all the single dilaton truncations of the $\mathrm{SO}(8)$ gauged $\mathcal{N}=8$ supergravity. In this infinitely many theories characterized by two real numbers -- the interpolation parameter and the dyonic "angle" of the gauging -- we construct non-extremal electrically or magnetically charged black hole solutions and their supersymmetric limits. All the supersymmetric black holes have non-singular horizons with spherical, hyperbolic or planar topology. Some of these supers…
We study several different types of BPS flows within minimal $\mathcal{N}=1$, $D=7$ supergravity with $\textrm{SU}(2)$ gauge group and non-vanishing topological mass. After reviewing some known domain wall solutions involving only the metric and the $\mathbb{R}^{+}$ scalar field, we move to considering more general flows involving a "dyonic" profile for the 3-form gauge potential. In this context, we consider flows featuring a $\textrm{Mkw}_{3}$ as well as an $\textrm{AdS}_{3}$ slicing, write down the corresponding flow equations, and integrate them analytically to obtain many examples of asym…
Half-maximal, $\,\mathcal{N}=4\,$, sectors of $\,D=4\,$ $\,\mathcal{N}=8\,$ supergravity with a dyonic ISO(7) gauging are investigated. We focus on a half-maximal sector including three vector multiplets, that arises as a certain $\,\textrm{SO}(3)_{\textrm{R}}$-invariant sector of the full theory. We discuss the embedding of this sector into the largest half-maximal sector of the $\,\mathcal{N}=8\,$ supergravity retaining six vector multiplets. We also provide its canonical $\,\mathcal{N}=4\,$ formulation and show that, from this perspective, our model leads in its own right to a new explicit …
The dimensional reduction of (the bosonic sector of) five-dimensional minimal supergravity to four dimensions leads to a theory with a massless axion and a dilaton coupled to gravity and two U(1) gauge fields (one of which has Chern-Simons coupling), whose field equations have SL(2,R)-invariance. Utilizing this SL(2,R)-duality, we provide a new formalism for solution generation. As an example, applying it to the Rasheed solution, which are known to describe dyonic rotating black holes (from the four-dimensional point of view) of five-dimensional pure gravity, we obtain rotating Kaluza-Klein bl…
We present BPS black hole solutions in a four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ supergravity with an abelian dyonic gauging of the universal hypermultiplet moduli space. This supergravity arises as the SU(3)-invariant subsector in the reduction of massive IIA supergravity on a six-sphere. The solutions are supported by non-constant scalar, vector and tensor fields and interpolate between a unique $\textrm{AdS}_{2} \,\times\, \textrm{H}^2$ geometry in the near-horizon region and the domain-wall DW$_{4}$ (four-dimensional) description of the D2-brane at the boundary. Some special solutions with charge…

Consistent embeddings are found of the minimal $\mathcal{N} = 2$ and $\mathcal{N} = 3$ gauged supergravities in four dimensions into its maximally supersymmetric, $\mathcal{N} = 8$, counterpart with a dyonic ISO(7) gauging. These minimal truncations retain the metric along with relevant U(1) and SO(3) R-symmetry gauge fields selected from the ISO(7) ones. The remaining ISO(7) gauge fields are turned off, with subtleties introduced by the dyonic gauging, and the scalars are fixed to their expectation values at the $\mathcal{N} = 2$ and $\mathcal{N} = 3$ vacua of the $\mathcal{N} = 8$ theory. Us…
We find a new family of supersymmetric vacuum solutions in the six-dimensional chiral gauged N=(1,0) supergravity theory. They are generically of the form AdS_3 x S^3, where the 3-sphere is squashed homogeneously along its Hopf fibres. The squashing is freely adjustable, corresponding to changing the 3-form charge, and the solution is supersymmetric for all squashings. In a limit where the length of the Hopf fibres goes to zero, one recovers, after a compensating rescaling of the fibre coordinate, a solution that is locally the same as the well-known (Minkowski)_4 x S^2 vacuum of this theory. …
We propose a geometric method to study the residual symmetries in $N=2$, $d=4$ $\text{U}(1)$ Fayet-Iliopoulos (FI) gauged supergravity. It essentially involves the stabilization of the symplectic vector of gauge couplings (FI parameters) under the action of the U-duality symmetry of the ungauged theory. In particular we are interested in those transformations that act non-trivially on the solutions and produce scalar hair and dyonic black holes from a given seed. We illustrate the procedure for finding this group in general and then show how it works in some specific models. For the prepotenti…
We perform a consistent reduction of 6d matter-coupled F(4) supergravity on a compact Riemann surface $Σ_\mathfrak{g}$ of genus $\mathfrak{g}$, at the level of the bosonic action. The result is an $\mathcal{N}=2$ gauged supergravity coupled to two vector multiplets and a single hypermultiplet. The four-dimensional model is holographically dual to the 3d superconformal field theories of class $\mathcal{F}$, describing different brane systems in massive type IIA and IIB wrapped on $Σ_\mathfrak{g}$. The naive reduction leads to a non-standard 4d mixed duality frame with both electric and magnetic…
A large set of relevant deformations of the ABJM field theory on a stack of M2 branes is captured holographically by D=4 N=8 SO(8)-gauged supergravity, which has accordingly been applied to study renormalisation group (RG) flows of the field theory between distinct superconformal phases. Recently, it has been discovered that this supergravity is not unique, and that a one-parameter family of gaugings of maximal supergravity exists. The parameter is an angle that measures the mixture of electric and magnetic vectors that gauge SO(8) dyonically. We construct and comprehensively characterise all …
The S-fold description of Janus-type solutions of type IIB supergravity is investigated. This is done by first studying a $\,\textrm{U}(1) \times \textrm{U}(1)\,$ invariant sector of the four-dimensional dyonically-gauged $\,{[\,\textrm{SO}(1,1) \times \textrm{SO}(6)\,] \ltimes \mathbb{R}^{12}}\,$ maximal supergravity that arises upon reduction of type IIB supergravity on $\,\mathbb{R} \, \times \, \textrm{S}^{5}\,$. Two AdS$_{4}$ solutions preserving $\,\textrm{SU}(3)\,$ and $\,\textrm{SO}(6)\,$ gauge symmetry together with $\,\mathcal{N}=1\,$ and $\,\mathcal{N}=0\,$ supersymmetry are found w…
We study a solution generating technique in supergravity which can be viewed as a generalised version of U-duality, taking solutions of type IIA supergravity on a 6-sphere with RR flux to new solutions of 11-dimensional supergravity. The new solutions are characterised by an underlying 6-algebra structure. Our construction provides an 11-dimensional uplift of four-dimensional ISO(7) gauged supergravity, using $E_7$ exceptional geometry techniques. We focus on an example where we start with the D2 solution in type IIA supergravity and construct a new $\tfrac12$-BPS 11-dimensional solution.
We report on a series of new solutions to five-dimensional minimal supergravity. Our method applies to space-times with two commuting Killing symmetries and consists in combining dimensional reduction on two-spaces of constant curvature with reduction on a two-torus. The first gives rise to various generalized Bertotti-Robinson solutions supported by electric and magnetic fluxes, which presumably describe the near-horizon regions of black holes and black rings (strings). The second provides generating techniques based on U-duality of the corresponding three-dimensional sigma model. We identify…
Motivated by advanced progress in the holographic theory between rotating black holes and CFT, we explore the conformal invariance on dyonic Kerr-Sen black hole and its gauged family. We consider a neutral massless scalar probe on the black holes' background within the low-frequency limit and exhibit that the solution space possesses $SL(2,R)\times SL(2,R)$ isometry. The periodic identification of the azimuthal angle corresponds to the spontaneous conformal symmetry breaking by temperatures $T_L,T_R$. Using the computation of the central charges on Ref. [25] that we recalculate by considering …
For $G(\mathbb{R})$ a split, simply connected, semisimple Lie group of rank $n$ and $K$ the maximal compact subgroup of $G$, we give a method for computing Iwasawa coordinates of $G/K$ using the Chevalley generators and the Steinberg presentation. When $G/K$ is a scalar coset for a supergravity theory in dimensions $\geq 3$, we determine the action of the integral form $G(\mathbb{Z})$ on $G/K$. We give explicit results for the action of the discrete $U$--duality groups $SL_2(\mathbb{Z})$ and $E_7(\mathbb{Z})$ on the scalar cosets $SL_2(\mathbb{R})/SO_2(\mathbb{R})$ and $E_{7(+7)}(\mathbb{R})/[…
Starting from the symplectic construction of the Lie algebra e_7(7) due to Adams, we consider an Iwasawa parametrization of the coset E_7(7)/SU(8), which is the scalar manifold of N=8, d=4 supergravity. Our approach, and the manifest off-shell symmetry of the resulting symplectic frame, is determined by a non-compact Cartan subalgebra of the maximal subgroup SL(8,R) of E_7(7). In absence of gauging, we utilize the explicit expression of the Lie algebra to study the origin of E_7(7)/SU(8) as scalar configuration of a 1/8-BPS extremal black hole attractor. In such a framework, we highlight the a…
We study $dS_4$ vacua within matter-coupled $N=4$ gauged supergravity in the embedding tensor formalism. We derive a set of conditions for the existence of $dS_4$ solutions by using a simple ansatz for solving the extremization and positivity of the scalar potential. We find two classes of gauge groups that lead to $dS_4$ vacua. One of them consists of gauge groups of the form $G_{\textrm{e}}\times G_{\textrm{m}}\times H$ with $H$ being a compact group and $G_{\textrm{e}}\times G_{\textrm{m}}$ a non-compact group with $SO(3)\times SO(3)$ subgroup and dynonically gauged. These gauge groups are …
We consider maximal gauged supergravity in 4D with ISO(7) gauge group, which arises from a consistent truncation of massive IIA supergravity on a six-sphere. Within its G$_2$ invariant sector, the theory is known to possess a supersymmetric AdS extremum as well as two non-supersymmetric ones. In this context we provide a first order formulation of the theory by making use of the Hamilton-Jacobi (HJ) formalism. This allows us to derive a positive energy theorem for both non-supersymmetric extrema. Subsequently, we also find novel non-supersymmetric domain walls (DW) interpolating between the su…
We introduce the quasi-topological electromagnetism which is defined to be the squared norm of the topological 4-form $F\wedge F$. A salient property is that its energy-momentum tensor is of the isotropic perfect fluid with the pressure being precisely the opposite to its energy density. It can thus provide a model for dark energy. We study its application in both black hole physics and cosmology. The quasi-topological term has no effect on the purely electric or magnetic Reissner-Nordström black holes, the dyonic solution is however completely modified. We find that the dyonic black holes can…
We examine supersymmetry of four-dimensional asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) dyonic black holes in the context of gauged N=2 supergravity. Our calculations concentrate on black holes with unusual topology and their rotating generalizations, but we also reconsider the spherical rotating dyonic Kerr-Newman-AdS black hole, whose supersymmetry properties have previously been investigated by Kostelecký and Perry within another approach. We find that in the case of spherical, toroidal or cylindrical event horizon topology, the black holes must rotate in order to preserve some supersymmetry; the …
