In this article we study a family of four-dimensional, $\mathcal{N}=2$ supergravity theories that interpolates between all the single dilaton truncations of the $\mathrm{SO}(8)$ gauged $\mathcal{N}=8$ supergravity. In this infinitely many theories characterized by two real numbers -- the interpolation parameter and the dyonic "angle" of the gauging -- we construct non-extremal electrically or magnetically charged black hole solutions and their supersymmetric limits. All the supersymmetric black holes have non-singular horizons with spherical, hyperbolic or planar topology. Some of these supersymmetric and non-extremal black holes are new examples in the $\mathcal{N}=8$ theory that do not belong to the STU model. We compute the asymptotic charges, thermodynamics and boundary conditions of these black holes and show that all of them, except one, introduce a triple trace deformation in the dual theory.
We study small hairy black holes in a consistent truncation of ${\cal N}=8$ gauged supergravity that consists of a single charged scalar field interacting with the metric and a U(1) gauge field. Small very near extremal RNAdS black holes in this system are unstable to decay by superradiant emission. The end point of this instability is a small hairy black hole that we construct analytically in a perturbative expansion in its charge. Unlike their RNAdS counterparts, hairy black hole solutions exist all the way down to the BPS bound, demonstrating that ${\cal N}=4$ Yang Mills theory has an ${\ca…
A new type of gauged BPS baby Skyrme model is presented, where the derivative term is just the Schroers current (i.e., gauge invariant and conserved version of the topological current) squared. This class of models has a topological bound saturated for solutions of the pertinent Bogomolnyi equations supplemented by a so-called superpotential equation. In contrast to the gauged BPS baby Skyrme models considered previously, the superpotential equation is linear and, hence, completely solvable. Furthermore, the magnetic flux is quantized in units of $2π$, which allows, in principle, to define thi…
We investigate the phase diagram of a general class of $4$-dimensional exact regular hairy planar black holes. For some particular values of the parameters in the moduli potential, these solutions can be embedded in $ω$-deformed $\mathcal{N}=8$ gauged supergravity. We construct the hairy soliton that is the ground state of the theory and show that there exist first order phase transitions.
We determine the BPS bounds in minimal gauged supergravity in four spacetime dimensions. We concentrate on asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetimes, and find that there exist two disconnected BPS ground states of the theory, depending on the presence of magnetic charge. Each of these ground states comes with a different superalgebra and a different BPS bound, which we derive. As a byproduct, we also demonstrate how the supersymmetry algebra has a built-in holographic renormalization method to define finite conserved charges.
We study $N=2$ gauged supergravity with $U(1)$ gauge group coupled to $n_v$ vector multiplets and find quite general analytic solutions for quarter-BPS black holes with mass, NUT and dyonic Maxwell charges. The solutions we find have running scalar fields and flow in the IR region to a horizon geometry of the form AdS$_2\times Σ_g$.
In this thesis I discuss the derivation of the BPS solutions of the most general N=2, d=5 gauged supergravity with matter. In particular I will concentrate on the dependence of BPS equations on the choice of the gauging, in presence of not trivial hypermultiplets (not constant prepotential). My purpose is, starting from the experience gained in some special examples, to extend the results of Gauntlett et Gutowski for the minimal gauged case to the theory with a generic number of hypermultiplets. Two ingredients are fundamental for this study: rewriting the BPS constraints on the killing spinor…
It is shown that N=4 gauged supergravity in four dimensions is obtained by compactifying N=1 supergravity in ten dimensions on the group manifold $S^3\times S^3$. This could be further related to supergravity in eleven dimensions. Analysis of supersymmetry conditions of N=4 gauged supergravity in four dimensions reveals solutions which preserve 1/4 of the supersymmetries and are characterized by a BPS-monopole-type gauge field. These solutions are lifted to solutions of the ten and eleven dimensional theories.
We continue the analysis of BPS bounds started in arXiv:1110.2688, extending it to the full class of N=2 gauged supergravity theories with arbitrary vector and hypermultiplets. We derive the general form of the asymptotic charges for asymptotically flat (M_4), anti-de Sitter (AdS_4), and magnetic anti-de Sitter (mAdS_4) spacetimes. Some particular examples from black hole physics are given to explicitly demonstrate how AdS and mAdS masses differ when solutions with non-trivial scalar profiles are considered.
We explicitly construct $N=10$ Chern-Simons gaged supergravity in three dimensions with non-semisimple gauge group $SO(5)\ltimes \mathbf{T}^{10}$. The gauge group is embedded in $E_{6(-14)}$ which is the isometry group of the 32-dimensional scalar manifold $E_{6(-14)}/SO(10)\times U(1)$. The resulting theory is on-shell equivalent to $SO(5)$ Yang-Mills gauged supergravity coming from dimensional reduction on $S^1$ of $SO(5)$ $N=5$ gauged supergravity in four dimensions. We discuss the spectrum of the corresponding reduction. The $SO(5)\ltimes \mathbf{T}^{10}$ gauged supergravity, describing th…
We study the thermodynamics of accelerating asymptotically AdS black holes with scalar hair in four-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theories, which can be embedded in gauged supergravities for specific dilaton coupling constants. These accelerating black holes are described by charged dilaton C metrics, which have unique features but are almost unexplored before. Thermodynamics of slowly accelerating black holes is generalized to include scalar hair. We find that properly accounting for mixed boundary conditions for the scalar field leads to standard consistent first law and other thermod…
We demonstrate that the gauged BPS baby Skyrme model with a double vacuum potential allows for phase transitions from a non-solitonic to a solitonic phase, where the latter corresponds to a ferromagnetic liquid. Such a transition can be generated by increasing the external pressure $P$ or by turning on an external magnetic field $H$. As a consequence, the topological phase where gauged BPS baby skyrmions exist, is a higher density phase. For smaller densities, obtained for smaller values of $P$ and $H$, a phase without solitons is reached. We find the critical line in the $P,H$ parameter space…
Electrically charged solutions breaking half of the supersymmetry in Anti-De Sitter four dimensional N=2 supergravity coupled to vector supermultiplets are constructed. These static black holes live in an asymptotic $AdS_4$ space-time. The Killing spinor, i. e., the spinor for supersymmetry variation is explicitly constructed for these solutions.
Via a series of Kaluza-Klein (KK) and Scherk-Schwarz (SS) compactifications we relate BPS attractors and their complete (in general non-BPS) flows to a Minkowski vacuum in gauged supergravities with vanishing scalar potential in 4, 5, and 6 dimensions. This way we can look at a class of extremal non-BPS black holes and strings from IIB string theory viewpoint, keeping 4 supercharges on the horizon. Our results imply the existence of a dual 2d N = (0,2) superconformal field theory (SCFT) that originates from a parent N=(4,4) theory living on a D1-D5 system. This is achieved starting from the BP…
We construct and analyze BPS black hole solutions in gauged N=2, D=4 supergravity with charged hypermultiplets. A class of solutions can be found through spontaneous symmetry breaking in vacua that preserve maximal supersymmetry. The resulting black holes do not carry any hair for the scalars. We demonstrate this with explicit examples of both asymptotically flat and anti-de Sitter black holes. Next, we analyze the BPS conditions for asymptotically flat black holes with scalar hair and spherical or axial symmetry. We find solutions only in cases when the metric contains ripples and the vector …
We analyze the possibility of constructing supersymmetric curved domain wall solutions in five-dimensional ${\cal N}=2$ gauged supergravity, which are supported by non-constant scalar fields belonging either to vector multiplets only or to vector and hypermultiplets. We show that the BPS equations for the warp factor and for the vector scalars are modified by the presence of a four-dimensional cosmological constant on the domain wall, in agreement with earlier results by DeWolfe, Freedman, Gubser and Karch. We also show that the cosmological constant on the domain wall is anti-de Sitter like a…
We consider the flow equations for $1/4$-BPS asymptotically AdS$_4$ static black holes in Fayet-Iliopoulos gauged supergravity, using very special geometry identities to obtain a simplified form in the most general case. Under mild assumptions on the form of the solution, we analyse the flow equations and find an explicit solution for arbitrary gauging and charge vectors within the chosen ansatz. Comparing with the corresponding attractor equations, we find that the solution is given in terms of exactly the same vector of parameters, implying that all regular attractors can be extended to full…
We present an extension of our construction (hep-th/0606199) exhibiting $SO(4)\times SO(2)$ symmetry. We extend the previously presented ansatz by introducing a U(1) gauge field. The presence of the gauge field allows for more general values of the Killing spinor U(1) charge. One more time we identify a four dimensional Kahler structure and a Monge-Ampere type of equation parametrized by the U(1) Killing spinor charge. In addition we identify 2 scalars that parametrize the supersymmetric solutions, one of which is the Kahler potential.
Within D=5 N=2 gauged supergravity coupled to hypermultiplets we derive consistency conditions for BPS domain walls with constant negative curvature on the wall. For such wall solutions to exist, the covariant derivative of the projector, governing the constraint on the Killing spinor, has to be non-zero and proportional to the cosmological constant on the domain walls. We also prove that in this case solutions of the Killing spinor equations are solutions of the equations of motion. We present explicit, analytically solved examples of such domain walls, employing the universal hypermultiplet …
We investigate the existence of self-dual solitons with internal structure in a gauged $O(3)$ nonlinear sigma model immersed in a dielectric medium generated by a real scalar field (dubbed the source field). We consider rotationally symmetric configurations and applying the {Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield} formalism to obtain the energy lower bound and the respective {first-order differential equations (or self-dual equations).} By solving such a system of equations for three different dielectric media, we find the internal structure generates relevant changes in the soliton profiles when comp…
We analyze BPS black hole attractors in 4d gauged supergravity in the presence of higher derivative supersymmetric terms, including a Weyl-squared-type action, and determine the resulting corrections to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. The near-horizon geometry AdS$_2 \times$S$^2$ (or other Riemann surface) preserves half of the supercharges in $N=2$ supergravity with Fayet-Iliopoulos gauging. We derive a relation between the entropy and the black hole charges that suggests via AdS/CFT how subleading corrections contribute to the supersymmetric index in the dual microscopic picture. Depending o…
Recently, 1/2-BPS AdS bubble solutions have been obtained by Lin, Lunin and Maldacena, which correspond to Fermi droplets in phase space in the dual CFT picture. They can be thought of as generalisations of 1/2-BPS AdS black hole solutions in five or seven dimensional gauged supergravity. In this paper, we extend these solutions by invoking additional gauge fields and scalar fields in the supergravity Lagrangians, thereby obtaining AdS bubble generalisations of the previously-known multi-charge AdS black solutions of gauged supergravity. We also obtain analogous AdS bubble solutions in four-di…
We consider a $D=4$, $\mathcal{N}=2$ gauged supergravity with an electromagentic Fayet-Iliopoulos term. We restrict to the uncharged, single dilaton consistent truncation and point out that the bulk Lagrangian is self-dual under electromagnetic duality. Within this truncation, we construct two families of exact hairy black hole solutions, which are asymptotically $AdS_4$. When a duality transformation is applied on these solutions, they are mapped to two other inequivalent families of hairy black hole solutions. The mixed boundary conditions of the scalar field correspond to adding a triple-tr…
We study static BPS black hole horizons in four dimensional N=2 gauged supergravity coupled to $n_v$-vector multiplets and with an arbitrary cubic prepotential. We work in a symplectically covariant formalism which allows for both electric and magnetic gauging parameters as well as dyonic background charges and obtain the general solution to the BPS equations for horizons of the form $AdS_2\times Σ_g$. In particular this means we solve for the scalar fields as well as the metric of these black holes as a function of the gauging parameters and background charges. When the special Kahler manifol…
We consider theories of N=2 supergravity with Fayet-Iliopoulos gauging, and describe a procedure to obtain non-BPS extremal black hole solutions in asymptotically AdS_4 space, in a fully symplectic covariant framework. By considering both electric as well as magnetic gauging, we are able to find new extremal purely magnetic and dyonic solutions. We consistently impose the Dirac quantization condition as a constraint on the black hole and gravitinos charges. This additional requirement allows to parameterize the black hole entropy in terms of an integer and of the entropy of the corresponding b…
We provide ${\cal N}=1$ superfield description of BPS backgrounds in six-dimensional supergravity (6D SUGRA) with 3-branes, which is compactified on a two-dimensional space. The brane terms induce the localized fluxes. We find a useful gauge in which the background equations become significantly simple. This is not the Wess-Zumino gauge, and the relation to the usual component-field expression of 6D SUGRA is not straightforward. One of the equations reduces to the Liouville equation. By moving to the Wess-Zumino gauge, we check that our expressions reproduce the known results of the previous w…
We consider gauged five dimensional supergravity with boundaries and vector multiplets in the bulk. We analyse the zero modes of the BPS configurations preserving N=1 supergravity at low energy. We find the 4d low energy effective action involving the moduli associated to the BPS zero modes. In particular, we derive the Kähler potential on the moduli space corresponding to the low energy 4d N=1 effective action.
We consider minimal setups arising from different truncations of N=8 five-dimensional SO(6) gauged supergravity to study phase transitions involving spontaneous breaking of any of the U(1) symmetries in U(1)xU(1)xU(1)in SO(6). These truncations only keep the three relevant vector fields, four complex scalar fields carrying U(1) charges, plus two neutral scalar fields required by consistency. By considering thermal ensembles with different fixed U(1) charge densities and solving the complete equations including the full back-reaction, in some cases we find instabilities towards the formation of…
Using the concept of strong necessary conditions (CSNC), we derive Bogomolny equations and BPS bounds for two modifications of the gauged baby BPS Skyrme model: the nonminimal coupling to the gauge field and k-deformed model. In particular, we study, how the Bogomolny equations and the equation for the potential, reflect these two modifications. In both examples, the CSNC method shows to be a very useful tool.
We relate across dimensions BPS attractors of black strings and black holes of various topology in gauged supergravities with nontrivial scalar potential. The attractors are of the form AdS$_{2, 3} \times Σ^{2, 3}$ in 4, 5, and 6 dimensions, and can be generalized to some higher dimensional analogs. Even though the attractor geometries admit standard Kaluza-Klein and Scherk-Schwarz reductions, their asymptotic AdS spaces in general do not. The resulting lower dimensional objects are black holes with runaway asymptotics in supergravity theories with no maximally symmetric vacua. Such classes of…
We determine, in the context of five-dimensional ${\cal N}=2$ gauged supergravity with vector and hypermultiplets, the conditions under which curved (non Ricci flat) supersymmetric domain wall solutions may exist. These curved BPS domain wall solutions may, in general, be supported by non-constant vector and hyper scalar fields. We establish our results by a careful analysis of the BPS equations as well as of the associated integrability conditions and the equations of motion. We construct an example of a curved BPS solution in a gauged supergravity model with one hypermultiplet. We also discu…
We show that the minimally gauged BPS baby Skyrme model remains a BPS theory after coupling with gravity that is the topologically nontrivial configurations called baby Skyrmions carrying magnetic flux are solutions to a zero pressure equation. Following that the proper mass, magnetic flux and the proper geometric volume are linear function of the topological charge, while the total ADM mass and geometric radius get a contribution due to the gravitational interaction which is quadratic in the topological charge. All these quantities are found exactly as target space integrals (averages) of the…
We construct four-dimensional domain wall solutions of N=2 gauged supergravity coupled to vector and to hypermultiplets. The gauged supergravity theories that we consider are obtained by performing two types of Abelian gauging. In both cases we find that the behaviour of the scalar fields belonging to the vector multiplets is governed by the so-called attractor equations known from the study of BPS black hole solutions in ungauged N=2 supergravity theories. The scalar fields belonging to the hypermultiplets, on the other hand, are either constant or exhibit a run-away behaviour. These domain w…
Compactifications with D-brane and orientifold sources lead to standard gauged supergravity theories if the sources are smeared over the internal directions. It is therefore of interest to find how the solutions described by the gauged supergravity are altered by properly localising the sources. In this paper we analyse this for BPS domain wall solutions in the seven-dimensional gauged supergravity obtained from an O6 toroidal orientifold compactification in massive IIA supergravity. This is one of the simplest no-scale supergravities that can be constructed and analysed in full detail. We fin…
BPS domain wall solutions of gauged supergravities are found, including those theories which have non-compact gauge groups. These include models that have both an unstable de Sitter solution and stable domain wall solutions.
We study supersymmetric black holes in $AdS_4$ in the framework of four dimensional gauged $\N=2$ supergravity coupled to hypermultiplets. We derive the flow equations for a general electrically gauged theory where the gauge group is Abelian and, restricting them to the fixed points, we derive the gauged supergravity analogue of the attractor equations for theories coupled to hypermultiplets. The particular models we analyze are consistent truncations of M-theory on certain Sasaki-Einstein seven-manifolds. We study the space of horizon solutions of the form $AdS_2\times Σ_g$ with both electric…
We present a numerical study of fully non-linear, rotating and charged hairy black hole solutions in five-dimensional anti-de Sitter space, which originate from a consistent truncation of $\mathcal{N}=8$ supergravity, and can be consistently embedded in type IIB supergravity with AdS$_5\times$S$^5$ asymptotics. The hairy black holes have one scalar field charged under a $U(1)$ gauge field, and branch from the near-extremal Cvetič, Lü and Pope solutions. We give numerical evidence that the hairy solutions exist arbitrarily close to the BPS bound for all charges, and saturate it in the $T\righta…
The magnetothermodynamics of skyrmion type matter described by the gauged BPS baby Skyrme model at zero temperature is investigated. We prove that the BPS property of the model is preserved also for boundary conditions corresponding to an asymptotically constant magnetic field. The BPS bound and the corresponding BPS equations saturating the bound are found. Further, we show that one may introduce pressure in the gauged model by a redefinition of the superpotential. Interestingly, this is related to non-extremal type solutions in the so-called fake supersymmetry method. Finally, we compute the…
We study static, spherically symmetric, and purely magnetic solutions of SU(2) $\times$ SU(2) gauge supergravity in four dimensions. A systematic analysis of the supersymmetry conditions reveals solutions which preserve 1/8 of the supersymmetries and are characterized by a BPS-monopole-type gauge field and a globally hyperbolic, everywhere regular geometry. These present the first known example of non-Abelian backgrounds in gauge supergravity and in leading order effective string theory.
We construct new non-extremal rotating black hole solutions in SO(6) gauged five-dimensional supergravity. Our solutions are the first such examples in which the two rotation parameters are independently specifiable, rather than being set equal. The black holes carry charges for all three of the gauge fields in the U(1)^3 subgroup of SO(6), albeit with only one independent charge parameter. We discuss the BPS limits, showing in particular that these include the first examples of regular supersymmetric black holes with independent angular momenta in gauged supergravity. We also find non-singula…
By identifying a bosonic consistent truncation from the 1/4-BPS wrapped M5-brane geometry of Maldacena, Strominger and Witten in D = 11 supergravity and finding a supersymmetric extension, we recover an N = 2 D = 3 supergravity theory. Reductions of a large class of supersymmetric solutions corresponding to wrapped M2 and M5-branes lead to black strings and warped AdS3 solutions preserving supersymmetry. With a view to AdS/CMT applications, we also construct a numerical hairy BTZ black hole and, as a preliminary step in this direction, determine the conductivity of the dual CFT.
We consider a deformation of the well-known stu model of $N=2$, $D=4$ supergravity, characterized by a non-homogeneous special Kähler manifold, and by the smallest electric-magnetic duality Lie algebra consistent with its upliftability to five dimensions. We explicitly solve the BPS attractor equations and construct static supersymmetric black holes with radial symmetry, in the context of $\text{U}(1)$ dyonic Fayet-Iliopoulos gauging, focussing on axion-free solutions. Due to non-homogeneity of the scalar manifold, the model evades the analysis recently given in the literature. The relevant ph…
The baby Skyrme model is a well-known nonlinear field theory supporting topological solitons in two space dimensions. Its action functional consists of a potential term, a kinetic term quadratic in derivatives (the "nonlinear sigma model term") and the Skyrme term quartic in first derivatives. The limiting case of vanishing sigma model term (the so-called BPS baby Skyrme model) is known to support exact soliton solutions saturating a BPS bound which exists for this model. Further, the BPS model has infinitely many symmetries and conservation laws. Recently it was found that the gauged version …
Magnetic BPS string solutions preserving quarter of supersymmetry are obtained for all abelian gauged d=5 N=2 supergravity theories coupled to vector supermultiplets. Due to a ``generalised Dirac quantization'' condition satisfied by the minimized magnetic central charge, the string metric takes a universal form for all five dimensional gauged theories.
We perform a systematic search for static solutions in different sectors of 5d $N=8$ supergravities with compact and non-compact gauged R-symmetry groups, finding new and listing already known backgrounds. Due to the variety of possible gauge groups and resulting scalar potentials, the maximally symmetric vacua we encounter in these theories can be Minkowski, de Sitter, or anti-de Sitter. There exist BPS and non-BPS near-horizon geometries and full solutions with all these three types of asymptotics, corresponding to black holes, branes, strings, rings, and other black objects with more exotic…
We construct black holes with scalar hair in a wide class of four-dimensional N=2 Fayet-Iliopoulos gauged supergravity theories that are characterized by a prepotential containing one free parameter. Considering the truncated model in which only a single real scalar survives, the theory is reduced to an Einstein-scalar system with a potential, which admits at most two AdS critical points and is expressed in terms of a real superpotential. Our solution is static, admits maximally symmetric horizons, asymptotically tends to AdS space corresponding to an extremum of the superpotential, but is dis…
The baby Skyrme model is a well-known nonlinear field theory supporting topological solitons in two space dimensions. In the limit where the term quadratic in derivatives (the "sigma model term") vanishes some additional structure emerges. The resulting ("extreme" or "restricted" or "BPS") baby Skyrme model has exact soliton solutions saturating a BPS bound which exists for this restricted model. Further, the restricted model has infinitely many symmetries and infinitely many conservation laws. Here we consider the gauged version of the restricted baby Skyrme model with gauge group U(1) and th…
This thesis is focused on supersymmetric objects in gauged supergravities and their interpretation in string theory. Three particular theories are considered and analyzed: matter-coupled $d=4, 5$ abelian gauged supergravities with 8 supercharges and minimal $d=7$ gauged supergravity with 16 supercharges. Respectively in the $d=4$ and $d=5$ cases, the BPS first-order flows of static extremal black holes and black strings are studied using the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism. The attractor mechanism is formulated for the case of couplings to hypermultiplets and two exact BPS black hole solutions are d…
We deepen and refine the classification of supersymmetric solutions to N=2, D=4 gauged supergravity obtained in a previous paper. In the case where the Killing vector constructed from the Killing spinor is timelike, it is shown that the nonlinear partial differential equations determining the BPS solutions can be derived from a variational principle. The corresponding action enjoys a solution-generating PSL(2,R) symmetry. In certain subcases the system reduces to different known theories, like two-dimensional dilaton gravity or the dimensionally reduced gravitational Chern-Simons theory. We fi…
Non-linear sigma models with scalar fields taking values on $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^n$ complex manifolds are addressed. In the simplest $n=1$ case, where the target manifold is the $\mathbb{S}^2$ sphere, we describe the scalar fields by means of stereographic maps. In this case when the $\mathbb{U}(1)$ symmetry is gauged and Maxwell and mass terms are allowed, the model accommodates stable self-dual vortices of two kinds with different energies per unit length and where the Higgs field winds at the cores around the two opposite poles of the sphere. Allowing for dielectric functions in the magnet…
Janus solutions are constructed in $d=3$, ${\cal N}=8$ gauged supergravity. We find explicit half-BPS solutions where two scalars in the $SO(8,1)/SO(8)$ coset have a nontrivial profile. These solutions correspond on the CFT side to an interface with a position-dependent expectation value for a relevant operator and a source which jumps across the interface for a marginal operator.
We investigate the existence of first-order vortices inherent to both the Maxwell-Chern-Simons-Higgs and the Maxwell-Chern-Simons-$CP(2)$ models extended via the inclusion of an extra scalar sector which plays the role of a source field. For both cases, we focus our attention on the time-independent configurations with radial symmetry which can be obtained through the implementation of the so-called Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) prescription. In this sense, in order to solve the corresponding first-order differential equations, we introduce some particular scenarios which are driven by …
We start by revisiting the problem of finding BPS solutions in $\mathcal{N}=4$ SU(2)$\times$SU(2) gauged supergravity. We report on a new supersymmetric solution in the Abelian sector of the theory, which describes a soliton that is regular everywhere. The solution is 1/4 BPS and can be obtained from a double analytic continuation of a planar solution found by Klemm in hep-th/9810090. Also in the Abelian sector, but now for a spherically symmetric ansatz we find a new solution whose supersymmetric nature was overlooked in the previous literature. Then, we move to the non-Abelian sector of the …
We study the existence of hairy black holes in the generalized Einstein-Skyrme model. It is proven that in the BPS model limit there are no hairy black hole solutions, although the model admits gravitating (and flat space) solitons. Furthermore, we find strong evidence that a necessary condition for the existence of black holes with Skyrmionic hair is the inclusion of the Skyrme term $\mathcal{L}_4$. As an example, we show that there are no hairy black holes in the $\mathcal{L}_2+\mathcal{L}_6+\mathcal{L}_0$ model and present a new kind of black hole solutions with compact Skyrmion hair in the…
We find solutions of the bosonic sector of gauged N=4, D=4 SU(2) $\times$ SU(2) supergravity, which represent dilaton black holes with toroidal or spherical event horizons. The axion is consistently truncated, and the gauge group is broken to U(1) $\times$ U(1). The spherical black holes carry two electric and two magnetic abelian charges, whereas the toroidal holes have vanishing magnetic charges. The spacetime metrics are warped products, and the manifolds turn out to be globally hyperbolic, in contrast to standard gauged supergravity ground states. It is shown that in the toroidal case, the…
We continue the investigation of supersymmetric extensions of baby Skyrme models in d=2+1 dimensions. In a first step, we show that the CP(1) form of the baby Skyrme model allows for the same N=1 SUSY extension as its O(3) formulation. Then we construct the N=1 SUSY extension of the gauged baby Skyrme model, i.e., the baby Skyrme model coupled to Maxwell electrodynamics. In a next step, we investigate the issue of N=2 SUSY extensions of baby Skyrme models. We find that all gauged and ungauged submodels of the baby Skyrme model which support BPS soliton solutions allow for an N=2 extension such…
We rewrite the equations for ten-dimensional supersymmetry in a way formally identical to a necessary and sufficient G-structure system in N=2 gauged supergravity, where all four-dimensional quantities are replaced by combinations of pure spinors and fluxes in the internal space. This provides a way to look for lifts of BPS solutions without having to reduce or even rewrite the ten-dimensional action. In particular this avoids the problem of consistent truncation, and the introduction of unphysical gravitino multiplets.
