Recent results in the literature concerning holography indicate that the thermodynamics of quantum gravity (at least with a negative cosmological constant) can be modeled by the large N thermodynamics of quantum field theory. We emphasize that this suggests a completely unitary evolution of processes in quantum gravity, including black hole formation and decay; and even more extreme examples involving topology change. Nuts and Bolts for Creating Space

We discuss the way in which field theory quantities assemble the spatial geometry of three-dimensional anti-de Sitter space (AdS3). The field theory ingredients are the entanglement entropies of boundary intervals. A point in AdS3 corresponds to a collection of boundary intervals, which is selected by a variational principle we discuss. Coordinates in AdS3 are integration constants of the resulting equation of motion. The nuts and bolts of the BMS Bootstrap

In this paper, we elaborate on aspects of the recently introduced BMS bootstrap programme. We consider two-dimensional (2d) field theories with BMS3 symmetry and extensively use highest weight representations to uncover the BMS version of crossing symmetry in 4-point functions that are constrained by symmetry. The BMS bootstrap equation is formulated and then analytic expressions for BMS blocks are constructed by looking at the limit of large central charges. The supersymmetric NUTs and bolts of holography

We show that a given conformal boundary can have a rich and intricate space of supersymmetric supergravity solutions filling it, focusing on the case where this conformal boundary is a biaxially squashed Lens space. Generically we find that the biaxially squashed Lens space S^3/Z_p admits Taub-NUT-AdS fillings, with topology R^4/Z_p, as well as smooth Taub-Bolt-AdS fillings with non-trivial topology. Nuts and bolts of supersymmetry

A topological mechanism is a zero elastic-energy deformation of a mechanical structure that is robust against smooth changes in system parameters. Here, we map the nonlinear elasticity of a paradigmatic class of topological mechanisms onto linear fermionic models using a supersymmetric field theory introduced by Witten and Olive. Heuristically, this approach consists of taking the square root of a non-linear Hamiltonian and generalizes the standard procedure of obtaining two copies of Dirac equation from the square root of the linear Klein Gordon equation. Maxwell-Boltzmann type Hawking radiation

Twenty years ago, Rovelli proposed that the degeneracy of black hole (i.e. the exponential of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy) is given by the number of ways the black hole horizon area can be expressed as a sum of unit areas. However, when counting the sum, one should treat the area quanta on the black hole horizon as distinguishable. This distinguishability of area quanta is noted in Rovelli's paper. Building on this idea, we derive that the Hawking radiation spectrum is not given by Planck radiation spectrum (i.e., Bose-Einstein distribution) but given by Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution.

Maximally symmetric nuts in 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ higher derivative supergravity

We initiate a systematic study of supersymmetric backgrounds in 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ Euclidean supergravity in the presence of infinite towers of higher derivative corrections. Adopting a Gibbons-Hawking view towards the evaluation of the action in terms of nuts and bolts, we consider the two maximally symmetric vacua $\mathbb{R}^4$ and $\mathbb{H}^4$ (Euclidean AdS$_4$) and their unique supersymmetric deformations with (anti-) self-dual Maxwell tensors corresponding to a single nut at the center. Cosmological Solutions on Atiyah-Hitchin Space in Five Dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons Theory

We construct non-stationary exact solutions to five dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory with positive cosmological constant. The solutions are based on four-dimensional Atiyah-Hitchin space. In asymptotic regions, the solutions approach to Gibbons-Perry-Sorkin monopole solutions. On the other hand, near the four-dimensional bolt of Atiyah-Hitchin space, our solutions show a bolt structure in five dimensions. The c-function for the solutions shows monotonic increase in time, in agreement with the general expected behaviour of c-function in asymptotically dS spacetimes.

Taub-NUT/Bolt Black Holes in Gauss-Bonnet-Maxwell Gravity

We present a class of higher dimensional solutions to Gauss-Bonnet-Maxwell equations in $2k+2$ dimensions with a U(1) fibration over a $2k$-dimensional base space $\mathcal{B}$. These solutions depend on two extra parameters, other than the mass and the NUT charge, which are the electric charge $q$ and the electric potential at infinity $V$. We find that the form of metric is sensitive to geometry of the base space, while the form of electromagnetic field is independent of $\mathcal{B}$.
