We show that two consecutive Universes with positive cosmological constants filled with perfect fluids and conformal to the positive-spatial-curvature FLRW metric by an analytic conformal transformation have the following features implied by the Einstein equations: a) the fluids can only belong to 4 classes (radiation, dust and two other classes with negative pressures corresponding to a gas of strings and a gas of domain walls), b) the field equations on both sides of the future/eternity hypersurface exhibit certain duality with the Einstein Universe at the background, and c) both eons (one at the end, and the other at the beginning) are almost critical, so that the future eon is dominated by radiation and resembles the beginning of our Universe.
The physical instability of the Universe model with de Sitter beginning is proved in this article. 1. It is shown that even a small addition of ultrarelativistic matter turns the de Sitter Universe into the Universe with finite past. 2. Constant solution of equation of model with constant scalar field is shown to be instable. 3. It is also shown that lateral gravitational perturbations of such model make it instable near of cosmological singularity. The conclusion is made that de Sitter stage of the Universe evolution most likely should be preceded by the ultrarelativistic stage.
A calculation of the no-boundary wave-function of the universe is put forward for a spacetime with negative curvature. A semi-classical Robertson-Walker approximation is attempted and two solutions to the field equations, one Lorentzian and the other a tunneling one are found. The regularity of those solutions are analysed explicitly, both in 2+1 and 3+1 dimensions and a conical singularity is found at the origin of the time axis, contradicting the no-boundary assumption.
The great emptiness is a possible beginning of the Universe in the infinite past of physical time. For the epoch of great emptiness particles are extremely rare and effectively massless. Only expectation values of fields and average fluctuations characterize the lightlike vacuum of this empty Universe. The physical content of the early stages of standard inflationary cosmological models is the lightlike vacuum. Towards the beginning, the Universe is almost scale invariant. This is best seen by an appropriate choice of the metric field -- the primordial flat frame -- for which the beginning of …
We discuss three candidate scenarios which seem to allow the possibility that the universe could have existed forever with no initial singularity: eternal infation, cyclic evolution, and the emergent universe. The first two of these scenarios are geodesically incomplete to the past, and thus cannot describe a universe without a beginning. The third, although it is stable with respect to classical perturbations, can collapse quantum mechanically, and therefore cannot have an eternal past.
The most entropic fluid can be related to a dense gas of black holes that we use to study the beginning of the universe. We encounter difficulties to compatibilize an adiabatic expansion with the growing area for the coalescence of black holes. This problem may be circumvented for a quantum black hole fluid, whose classical counterpart can be described by a percolating process at the critical point. This classical regime might be related to the energy content of the current universe.
We deduce general expressions for the line element of universe models with positive spatial curvature described by conformally flat spacetime coordinates. Models with dust, radiation and vacuum energy are exhibited. Discussing the existence of particle horizons we show that there is continual annihilation of space, matter and energy in a dust and radiation dominated universe, and continual creation in a LIVE domined universe when conformal time is used in Friedmann-Robertson-Walker models with positive spatial curvature. A general procedure is given for finding coordinates to be used in Penros…
By imposing natural geometrical and kinematical conditions on a conformal Killing vector in Bianchi I spacetime, we show that a class of axisymmetric metrics admits a conformal motion. This class contains new exact solutions of Einstein's equations, including anisotropic radiation universes that isotropise at late times.
The 3-space of a universe model is defined at a certain simultaneity. Hence space depends on which time is used. We find a general formula generating all known transformations to conformally flat spacetime coordinates, and work out the physical interpretation of conformal coordinate systems in different universe models. We show that continual creation appears when conformal time is used in Friedmann-Robertson-Walker models with negative spatial curvature, and in universe models where the inflationary era started as a quantum fluctuation at t > 0, for example at the Planck time. A general proce…
The quantum Casimir condensate of a conformal massive scalar field in a compact Friedmann universe is considered in the static approximation. The Abel-Plana formula is used for renormalization of divergent series in the condensate calculation. A differential relation between the static Casimir energy density and static Casimir condensate is derived.
When general relativity is augmented by quadratic gravity terms, it becomes a renormalisable theory of gravity. This theory may admit a non-Gaussian fixed point as envisaged in the asymptotic safety program, rendering the theory trustworthy to energies up to the Planck scale and even beyond. We show that requiring physical solutions to have a finite action imposes a strong selection on big-bang-type universes. More precisely we find that, in the approach to zero volume, both anisotropies and inhomogeneities are suppressed while the scale factor is required to undergo accelerated expansion. Thi…
We discuss highly simplified dynamic models for the beginning, expansion and future of the universe based on the strong cosmological principle and Yang-Mills gravity in flat space-time. We derive a relativistic Okubo equation of motion for galaxies with a time-dependent effective metric tensor $G_{μν}(t)$. The strong cosmological principle states that $G_{μν}(t)=\e_{μν} A^2(t)$ for $t \ge 0$. In a model (HHK) with Yang-Mills gravity in the super-macroscopic limit, one has $A(t)= a_o t^{1/2}$, which leads to the initial mass run away velocity $\dot{r}(0)=c$, associated with $r(0)=r_o>0$. Thus, …
We consider a model of the Universe based on the equation of state $p=(1/3)ρ(c/F)^2$, where $F$ is the scale factor. This model behaves as an inflationary Universe from the beginning and during its early stages, and behaves as dust matter during the stages of maximum expansion.
We construct a model of a universe filled with a perfect fluid with isotropic particle pressure. The anisotropic plane symmetric Kasner spacetime is used as a seed metric and through a conformal mapping a perfect fluid is generated. The model is inhomogeneous, irrotational, shearing and accelerating. For negative time, the universe is expanding while for positive time it is collapsing. With the aid of graphical three dimensional plots it is established that the density and pressure hypersurfaces are smooth and singularity free. Additionally the sound-speed index is computed and the fluid obeys…
We introduce a scenario in which the breakdown of conformal symmetry is responsible for the acceleration of universe in the matter dominant era. In this regard, we consider a self interacting scalar field non-minimally coupled to the Ricci scalar and the trace of energy-momentum tensor. For a traceless energy-momentum tensor in radiation dominant era, the coupling to matter vanishes and we are left with a conformal invariant gravitational action of Deser, where the universe may experience a decelerating phase in agreement with observations. In matter dominant era, the coupling to matter no lon…
I examine two cosmological scenarios in which the thermodynamic arrow of time points in opposite directions in the asymptotic past and future. The first scenario, suggested by Aguirre and Gratton, assumes that the two asymptotic regions are separated by a de Sitter-like bounce, with low-entropy boundary conditions imposed at the bounce. Such boundary conditions naturally arise from quantum cosmology with Hartle-Hawking wave function of the universe. The bounce hypersurface breaks de Sitter invariance and represents the beginning of the universe in this model. The second scenario, proposed by C…
The scalar-tensor theory is plagued by nagging questions if different conformal frames, in particular the Jordan and Einstein conformal frames, are equivalent to each other. As a closely related question, there are opposing views on which of the two conformal frames is physically acceptable. Reinforcing our previous claims, we offer replies based on a cosmological model of the scalar-tensor theory, believed to be a promising theory for understanding the accelerating universe, as well as today's version of the cosmological constant problem. Exploiting the advantage that this model admits analyt…
The breaking down of the equivalence principle, when discussed in the context of Sikorski's differential spaces theory, leads to the definition of the so-called differentially singular boundary (d-boundary) and to the concept of differential space with singularity associated with a given space-time differential manifold. This enables us to define the time orientability, the beginning of the cosmological time and the smooth evolution for the flat Friedmanian world model with the initial singularity. The simplest smoothly evolved models are studied. It is shown, that the cosmological matter caus…

We summarize and provide key references for the following topics: observations of the expanding Universe; the hot early Universe and nucleosynthesis; theory and observations of the cosmic microwave background; Big Bang cosmology; inflation; dark matter and dark energy; theory of structure formation; the cold dark matter model; galaxy formation; cosmological simulations; observations of galaxies, clusters, and quasars; statistical measures of …
''Massless'' spin-2 field equation in de Sitter space, which is invariant under the conformal transformation, has been obtained. The frame work utilized is the symmetric rank-2 tensor field of the conformal group. Our method is based on the group theoretical approach and six-cone formalism, initially introduced by Dirac. Dirac's six-cone is used to obtain conformally invariant equations on de Sitter space. The solution of the physical sector of massless spin-2 field (linear gravity) in de Sitter ambient space is written as a product of a generalized polarization tensor and a massless minimally…
We show that in a generic case of the pre-big-bang scenario, inflation will solve cosmological problems only if the universe at the onset of inflation is extremely large and homogeneous from the very beginning. The size of a homogeneous part of the universe at the beginning of the stage of pre-big-bang (PBB) inflation must be greater than $10^{19}$ $l_s$, where $l_s$ is the stringy length. The total mass of an inflationary domain must be greater than $10^{72} M_{s}$, where $M_{s} \sim l_s^{-1}$. If the universe is initially radiation dominated, then its total entropy at that time must be great…
Using numerical solutions of the full Einstein field equations coupled to a scalar inflaton field in 3+1 dimensions, we study the conditions under which a universe that is initially expanding, highly inhomogeneous and dominated by gradient energy can transition to an inflationary period. If the initial scalar field variations are contained within a sufficiently flat region of the inflaton potential, and the universe is spatially flat or open on average, inflation will occur following the dilution of the gradient and kinetic energy due to expansion. This is the case even when the scale of the i…
From the Wheeler-Dewitt solutions, the scale factor of the initial universe is discussed. In this study, scale factors from Wheeler-Dewitt solutions, loop quantum gravity, and phantom energy dominated stages are compared. Certain modifications have been attempted in scale factor and quantum potentials driven by canonical quantum gravity approaches. Their results are discussed in this work. Despite an increment of phantom energy density, avoidance of Big Rip is reported. Scale factors predicted from various models are discussed in this work. The relationship between scale factors and the smooth…
We extend our analysis for scalar fields in a Robertson-Walker metric to the electromagnetic field and Dirac fields by the method of invariants. The issue of the relation between conformal properties and particle production is re-examined and it is verified that the electromagnetic and massless spinor actions are conformal invariant, while the massless conformally coupled scalar field is not. For the scalar field case it is pointed out that the violation of conformal simmetry due to surface terms, although ininfluential for the equation of motion, does lead to effects in the quantized theory.
We study the dynamics of the early universe in massive conformal gravity. In particular, we show that the theory is consistent with the observed values of the primordial abundances of light elements if we consider the existence of right-handed sterile neutrinos.
The description of the cosmological expansion and its possible local manifestations via treating the proper conformal transformations as a coordinate transformation from a comoving Lorentz reference frame (RF) to an uniformly accelerated RF is given. The explicit form of the conformal deformation of time is established. The expression defining the location cosmological distance in the form of simple function on the red shift is obtained. By coupling it with the well known relativistic formula defining the relative velocity of the mutually moving apart source and receiver of the signal, the exp…

The explicit form of the conformal time inhomogeneity is established. The expression defining the location cosmological distance in the form of simple function on the red shift is obtained. We summarise the new conformal framework of an Anisotropic Future Endless Universe and an Anisotropic Future Singularity. Both new definitions are motivated by, but not restricted to quiescent cosmology and the Weyl curvature hypothesis, which previously only possessed a framework for a classical initial state of the universe, namely the Isotropic Singularity. Some of the features of the framework are briefly discussed.
Theoretical and observational arguments are listed in favor of a new principle of relativity of units of measurements as the basis of a conformal-invariant unification of General Relativity and Standard Model by replacement of all masses with a scalar (dilaton) field. The relative units mean conformal observables: the coordinate distance, conformal time, running masses, and constant temperature. They reveal to us a motion of a universe along its hypersurface in the field space of events like a motion of a relativistic particle in the Minkowski space, where the postulate of the vacuum as a stat…
Within the scope of a LRS Bianchi type-I cosmological model we study the role of the nonlinear spinor field in the evolution of the Universe. In doing so we consider a polynomial type of nonlinearity that describes different stages of the evolution. Finally we also use the observational data to fix the problem parameters that match best with the real picture of the evolution. The assessment of the age of the Universe in case of the soft beginning of expansion (initial speed of expansion in a point of singularity is equal to zero) the age was found 15 billion years, whereas in case of the hard …
The late time evolution of Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) models with a perfect fluid matter source is studied in the conformal frame of $f(R) $ gravity. We assume that the corresponding scalar field, nonminimally coupled to matter, has an arbitrary non-negative potential function $V(ϕ) $. We prove that equilibria corresponding to non-negative local minima for $V$ are asymptotically stable. We investigate all cases where one of the matter components eventually dominates. The results are valid for a large class of non-negative potentials without any particular assumptions about the behavior o…
In recent years there has been a lot of interest in discussing frame dependences/independences of the cosmological perturbations under the conformal transformations. This problem has previously been investigated in terms of the covariant approach for a single component universe, and it was found that the covariant approach is very powerful to pick out the perturbative variables which are both gauge and conformal invariant. In this work, we extend the covariant approach to a universe with multicomponent fluids. We find that similar results can be derived, as expected. In addition, some other in…
On the basis of the nonisometric transformations subgroup of the SO(4.2) group, the nonlinear time inhomogeneity one-parameter conformal transformations are constructed. The connection between the group parameter and the Hubble constant H0 is established. It is shown that the existence of an anomalous blue-shifted frequency drift is a pure kinematic manifestation of the time inhomogeneity induced by the Universe expansion. This conclusion is confirmed via a generalization of the standard Special Relativity clock synchronization procedure to the space expanding case. The obtained formulae are i…
In Einstein-Maxwell gravity with a conformally coupled scalar field, the black hole found by Bocharova, Bronnikov, Melnikov, and Bekenstein breaks when embedded in the external magnetic field of the Melvin universe. The situation improves in presence of acceleration, allowing one to build magnetised and accelerating BBMB black hole with a thin membrane. But to overcome this and others disadvantages of BBMB spacetimes, a new class of black holes, including the rotating case, is proposed for the conformal matter coupling under consideration.
The very early universe is understood in terms of quantum field theories on curved spacetime, where the classical background spacetime is typically an FLRW cosmology and the quantum fields which propagate on it include gravitational waves and energy density fluctuations. Many open questions seem to relate to the fact that we very little understand this regime, where part of the gravitational degrees of freedom, and only part of them, are quantized. In this work we study this limit by assigning quantum properties both to the background universe and the fluctuations and then focusing on the limi…
It has been argued that the spacetime of our universe can be accurately described by a perturbed conformal Newtonian metric, and hence even large density inhomogeneities in a dust universe can not change the observables predicted by the homogeneous dust model. In this paper we study a spherically symmetric dust model and illustrate conditions under which large spatial variations in the expansion rate can invalidate the argument.
In the Einstein-Cartan-Sciama-Kibble theory of gravity, the intrinsic spin of fermionic matter generates spacetime torsion and induces gravitational repulsion at extremely high densities. This repulsion prevents the collapsing spin-fluid matter in a black hole from forming a singularity. Instead, the interior of a black hole with a stiff equation of state becomes a new universe, which contracts until a (big) bounce and then expands. We derive the equations describing the dynamics of our Universe, formed in such a scenario, in terms of the conformal time which is a convenient variable for testi…
Quiescent cosmology and the Weyl curvature hypothesis possess a mathematical framework, namely the definition of an Isotropic Singularity, but only for the initial state of the universe. A complementary framework is necessary to also encode appropriate cosmological futures. In order to devise a new framework we analyse the relation between regular conformal structures and (an)isotropy, the behaviour and role of a monotonic conformal factor which is a function of cosmic time, as well as four example cosmologies for further guidance. Finally, we present our new definitions of an Anisotropic Futu…
In this paper we use the conformal teleparallel gravity to study an isotropic and homogeneous Universe which is settled by the FRW metric. We solve the field equations and we obtain the behavior of some cosmological parameters such as scale factor, deceleration parameter and the energy density of the perfect fluid which is the matter field of our model. The field equations, that we called modified Friedmann equations, allow us to define a dark fluid, with dark energy density and dark pressure, responsible for the acceleration in the Universe.
We study conformal coupling of dark spinor fields to gravity and calculate the energy density and the pressure of the spinor in FRW spacetime. We consider the renormalizable potential of the spinor field. In the cases where the field is proportional to some power of the cosmic scale factor $a(t)$, we determine the Hubble parameter as a function of the scale factor and find analytic solutions for $a(t)$ when the spinor field matter dilutes as the universe expands. We discuss the possibility that both matter- and dark energy-dominated eras of our universe can be described by the dark spinor.
Back-reaction of the massless scalar field vacuum to the Universe expansion is considered. Automatic renormalization procedure based on the equations of motion instead of the Friedman equation is used to avoid the cosmological constant problem. It is found, that the vacuum tends to decelerate an expansion of Universe if the conformal acceleration of Universe is equal to zero. In contract, the vacuum acts as the true cosmological constant in Universe expanding with the present day acceleration. Estimation for third derivative of the Universe scale factor with respect to conformal time is presen…
We point out that the (pseudo-)conformal Universe scenario may be realized as decay of conformally invariant, metastable vacuum, which proceeds via spontaneous nucleation and subsequent growth of a bubble of a putative new phase. We study perturbations about the bubble and show that their leading late-time properties coincide with those inherent in the original models with homogeneously rolling backgrounds. In particular, the perturbations of a spectator dimension-zero field have flat power spectrum.
We consider dark energy cosmology in a de Sitter universe filled with quantum conformal matter. Our model represents a Gauss-Bonnet model of gravity with contributions from quantum effects. To the General Relativity action an arbitrary function of the GB invariant, f(G), is added, and taking into account quantum effects from matter the cosmological constant is studied. For the considered model the conditions for a vanishing cosmological constant are considered. Creation of a de Sitter universe by quantum effects in a GB modified gravity is discussed.
The paper deals with the definition of gravitational energy in conformal teleparallel gravity. The total energy is defined by means of the field equations which allow a local conservation law. Then such an expression is analyzed for a homogeneous and isotropic Universe. This model is implemented by the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) line element. The energy of the universe in the absence of matter is identified with the dark energy, however it can be expanded for curved models defining such an energy as the difference between the total energy and the energy of the perfect fluid which is the …
The vacuum expectation values (VEVs) of the field squared and energy-momentum tensor for a massless scalar field are investigated in the Milne universe with general number of spatial dimensions. The vacuum state depends on the choice of the mode functions in the canonical quantization procedure and we assume that the field is prepared in the conformal vacuum. As the first step an integral representation for the difference of the Wightman functions corresponding to the conformal and Minkowski vacua is derived. The mean field squared and energy-momentum tensor are obtained in the coincidence lim…
The spinorial version of the conformal vacuum Einstein field equations are used to construct a system of quasilinear wave equations for the various conformal fields. As a part of the analysis we also show how to construct a subsidiary system of wave equations for the zero quantities associated to the various conformal field equations. This subsidiary system is used, in turn, to show that under suitable assumptions on the initial data a solution to the wave equations for the conformal fields implies a solution to the actual conformal Einstein field equations. The use of spinors allows for a mor…
We consider a multidimensional universe with the topology $M= \R\times M_1\times \cdots \times M_n$, where the $M_i$ ($i>1$) are $d_i$-dimensional Ricci flat spaces. Exploiting a conformal equivalence between minimal coupling models and conformal coupling models, we get exact solutions for such an universe filled by a conformally coupled scalar field. One of the solutions can be used to describe trapped unobservable extra dimensions.
We study the back reaction effect of massless minimally coupled scalar field at finite temperatures in the background of Einstein universe. Substituting for the vacuum expectation value of the components of the energy-momentum tensor on the RHS of the Einstein equation, we deduce a relationship between the radius of the universe and its temperature. This relationship exhibit a maximum temperature, below the Planck scale, at which the system changes its behaviour drastically. The results are compared with the case of a conformally coupled field. An investigation into the values of the cosmologi…
This is the second of three papers on Conformal General Relativity (CGR). The conformal group is introduced here as the invariance group of the partial order of causal events in $n$D spacetime. Its general structure, discrete symmetries and field representations are described in detail. The spontaneous breakdown of conformal symmetry is then discussed and the role played by a ghost scalar field and a physical scalar field in 4D spacetime are evidenced. Kinematic--, conformal-- and proper--time hyperbolic coordinates are introduced in a negatively curved Milne spacetime for the purpose of provi…
We consider the possibility to produce a bouncing universe in the framework of scalar-tensor gravity when the scalar field has a nonconformal coupling to the Ricci scalar. We prove that bouncing universes regular in the future with essentially the same dynamics as for the conformal coupling case do exist when the coupling deviates slightly from it. This is found numerically for more substantial deviations as well. In some cases however new features are found like the ability of the system to leave the effective phantom regime.
The pseudo-conformal scenario is an alternative to inflation in which the early universe is described by an approximate conformal field theory on flat, Minkowski space. Some fields acquire a time-dependent expectation value, which breaks the flat space so(4,2) conformal algebra to its so(4,1) de Sitter subalgebra. As a result, weight-0 fields acquire a scale invariant spectrum of perturbations. The scenario is very general, and its essential features are determined by the symmetry breaking pattern, irrespective of the details of the underlying microphysics. In this paper, we apply the well-kno…
This paper provides an analytical treatment of accelerated and geodesic motion within the framework of the Friedmann -Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) spacetime. By employing conformal time transformations we manage to convert second order differential equations of motion in FLRW spacetime to first order equations in the conformally transformed spacetime. This allows us to derive a general analytical solution in closed-form for accelerated motion in spatially curved FLRW spacetime. We provide few examples of this general solution for the spatially flat cases. The last part of our work focuses …
We discuss the modified gravity which may produce the current cosmic aceleration of the universe and eliminates the need for dark energy. It is shown that such models where the action quickly grows with the decrease of the curvature define the FRW universe with the minimal curvature. It is required the infinite time to reach the minimal curvature during the universe evolution. It is demonstrated that quantum effects of conformal fields may strongly suppress the instabilities discovered in modified gravity. We also briefly speculate on the modification of gravity combined with the presence of t…
The $f(R)$ gravity models formulated in Einstein conformal frame are equivalent to Einstein gravity together with a minimally coupled scalar field. The scalar field couples with the matter sector and the coupling term is given by the conformal factor. We apply the holographic principle to such an interacting model in spatially flat and curved universes. We show that the model leads to a constant ratio of energy densities of dark matter to dark energy in a spatially flat universe. In a spatially curved universe, the ratio is not a constant and the evolution seems to be model-dependent. However,…
We present a novel theory of the very early universe which addresses the traditional horizon and flatness problems of big bang cosmology and predicts a scale invariant spectrum of perturbations. Unlike inflation, this scenario requires no exponential accelerated expansion of space-time. Instead, the early universe is described by a conformal field theory minimally coupled to gravity. The conformal fields develop a time-dependent expectation value which breaks the flat space so(4,2) conformal symmetry down to so(4,1), the symmetries of de Sitter, giving perturbations a scale invariant spectrum.…
Acceleration of the universe is obtained from a model of non-relativistic particles with a short-range attractive interaction, at low enough temperature to produce a Bose-Einstein condensate. Conditions are derived for negative-pressure behavior. In particular, we show that a phantom-accelerated regime at the beginning of the universe solves the horizon problem, consistently with nucleosynthesis.
