We test the physical relevance of the full and the truncated versions of the Israel-Stewart theory of irreversible thermodynamics in a cosmological setting. Using a dynamical systems method, we determine the asymptotic future of plane symmetric Bianchi type I spacetimes with a viscous mathematical fluid, keeping track of the magnitude of the relative dissipative fluxes, which determines the applicability of the Israel-Stewart theory. We consider the situations where the dissipative mechanisms of shear and bulk viscosity are involved separately and simultaneously. It is demonstrated that the only case in the given model when the fluid asymptotically approaches local thermal equilibrium, and the underlying assumptions of the Israel-Stewart theory are therefore not violated, is that of a dissipative fluid with vanishing bulk viscosity. The truncated Israel-Stewart equations for shear viscosity are found to produce solutions which manifest pathological dynamical features and, in addition, to be strongly sensitive to the choice of initial conditions. Since these features are observed already in the case of an oversimplified mathematical fluid model, we have no reason to assume that the truncation of the Israel-Stewart transport equations will produce relevant results for physically more realistic fluids. The possible role of bulk and shear viscosity in cosmological evolution is also discussed.
The fluid models mentioned in the title are classified. All characteristics of the fluid are expressed through a master potential, satisfying an ordinary second order differential equation. Different constraints are imposed on this core of relations, finding new solutions and deriving the classical results for perfect fluids and dust as particular cases. Many uncharged and charged anisotropic solutions, all conformally flat and some uniform density solutions are found. A number of solutions with linear equation among the two pressures are derived, including the case of vanishing tangential pre…
Given an anisotropic fluid source, we determine in closed forms, upon solving the field equations of general relativity (GR) and teleparallel gravity (TEGR) coupled to a cosmological constant, cylindrically symmetric four-dimensional cosmological rotating wormholes, satisfying all local energy conditions, and cosmological rotating solutions with two axes of symmetry at finite proper distance. These solutions have the property that their angular velocity is proportional to the cosmological constant.
The fluid models mentioned in the title are studied in a modified approach, based on two formulas for the mass function. All characteristics of the fluid are expressed through a master potential, satisfying an ordinary second order differential equation. Different constraints are imposed on this core of relations, finding new solutions and deriving the classical results for perfect fluids as particular cases. All charged anisotropic solutions, all conformally flat and all uniform density solutions are found. A large class of solutions with linear equation among the two pressures is derived, in…
The large-scale structure of the Universe is a rich source of information to test the consistency of General Relativity on cosmological scales. We briefly describe how the observed distributions of galaxies is affected by redshift-space distortions, but also by gravitational lensing and other relativistic effects. Then, we show how one of this relativistic effects, the gravitational redshift, can be used to build a model independent test that directly measures the anisotropic stress, i.e. the difference between the two gravitational potentials that describe spacetime fluctuations of the geomet…
We study the behaviour of Bianchi class A universes containing an ultra-stiff isotropic ghost field and a fluid with anisotropic pressures which is also ultra-stiff on the average. This allows us to investigate whether cyclic universe scenarios, like the ekpyrotic model, do indeed lead to isotropisation on approach to a singularity (or bounce) in the presence of dominant ultra-stiff pressure anisotropies. We specialise to consider the closed Bianchi type IX universe and show that when the anisotropic pressures are stiffer on average than any isotropic ultra-stiff fluid then, if they dominate o…
We apply the 1+1+2 covariant semi-tetrad approach to describe a general static and spherically symmetric relativistic stellar object which contains two fluids with anisotropic pressure. The corresponding Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations are then obtained in covariant form for the anisotropic case. These equations are used to obtain new exact solutions using direct resolution and reconstruction techniques. Finally, we show that three of the generating theorems known for the single fluid case can also be used to obtain two-fluid solutions from single fluid ones.
In this paper we have considered an anisotropic space-time model of the Universe in presence of Brans-Dicke (BD) scalar field $ϕ$, causal viscous fluid and barotropic fluid. We have shown that irrespective of fluid the causality theory provides late time acceleration of the Universe. If the deceleration occurs in radial direction and acceleration occurs in transverse direction then the anisotropic Universe will accelerate for a particular condition of the power law representation of the scale factors.
We use anisotropic fluid cosmology to describe the present, dark energy-dominated, universe. Similarly to what has been proposed for galactic dynamics, the anisotropic fluid gives an effective description of baryonic matter, dark energy and their possible interaction, without assuming the presence of dark matter. The resulting anisotropic fluid spacetime naturally generates inhomogeneities at small scales, triggered by an anisotropic stress, and could therefore be responsible for structure formation at these scales. Solving the cosmological equations, we show that the dynamics of the scale fac…
In this paper we study anisotropic spherical polytropes within the framework of general relativity. Using the anisotropic Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkov (TOV) equations, we explore the relativistic anisotropic Lane-Emden equations. We find how the anisotropic pressure affects the boundary conditions of these equations. Also we argue that the behaviour of physical quantities near the center of star changes in the presence of anisotropy. For constant density, a class of exact solution is derived with the aid of a new ansatz and its physical properties are discussed.
This paper is devoted to study the Bianchi type III model in the presence of anisotropic fluid in f(R) gravity. Exponential and power-law volumetric expansions are used to obtain exact solutions of the field equations. We discuss the physical behavior of the solutions and anisotropy behavior of the fluid, the expansion parameter and the model in future evolution of the universe.
The fluid model for the dark sector of the universe (darkon fluid) introduced previously in \cite{PRD} is reformulated as a modified model involving only variables from physical phase space. The Lagrangian of the model does not possess a free particle limit and hence the particles it describes, darkons, exist only as a self-gravitating fluid. This darkon fluid presents a dynamical realisation of the zero-mass Galilean algebra extended by anisotropic dilational symmetry with dynamical exponent $z=5/3$. The model possesses cosmologically relevant solutions which are identical to those of \cite{P…
The present work deals with dynamics of gravitational collapse with cylindrical symmetry as developed by Misner and Sharp. The interior collapsing anisotropic cylindrical perfect fluid is matched to an exterior vacuum cylindrically symmetric space-time due to Einstein--Rosen using the Darmois matching conditions. It is found that the radial pressure of the anisotropic perfect fluid is non-zero on the boundary surface and is related to the components of shear viscosity. As a result, there is formation of gravitational waves outside the collapsing matter.
Some anisotropic Bianchi V dark energy models are investigated in a scale invariant theory of gravity. We consider two non interacting fluids such as dark energy and a bulk viscous fluid. Dark energy pressure is considered to be anisotropic in different spatial directions. A dynamically evolving pressure anisotropy is obtained from the models. The models favour phantom behaviour. It is observed that, in presence of dark energy, bulk viscosity has no appreciable affect on the cosmic dynamics.
The stability of static uncharged spheres with anisotropic internal stresses is studied in general relativity. It has been noticed that pressure anisotropy plays an important role for stability of stellar structure. It is shown that radial profile of the stress anisotropy can be considered to decide potentially stable/unstable regions. Finally, pontentially stable/unstable regions of two known models of relativistic star have been examined.
In this work a new family of black hole solutions in Lovelock gravity is discussed. These solutions describe anisotropic fluids which extend to the spatial infinity. Though far from the horizon their geometries approach some previously known black holes solutions the location of the horizons differ. Furthemore, although the masses of these solutions match the masses of those previously known black holes, their temperatures and entropies differ.
The present paper deals with quantization of perfect fluid anisotropic cosmological models. Bianchi type V and IX models are discussed following Schutz's method of expressing fluid velocities in terms of six potentials. The wave functions are found for several examples of equations of state. In one case a complete wave packet could be formed analytically. The initial singularity of a zero proper volume can be avoided in this case, but it is plagued by the usual problem of non-unitarity of anisotropic quantum cosmological models. It is seen that a particular operator ordering alleviates this pr…
The article is devoted to cosmology. It deals with homogeneous anisotropic cosmological models. Scale factors have been evaluated for the multicomponent models with perfect fluid, taking account of its expansion, rotation and shear. The cosmological fluid components are as follows: phantom matter, de Sitter vacuum, domain walls, strings, dust, radiation, perfect gas, stiff matter and ekpyrotic matter. The scale factor dependences on the equation of state and kinematic invariants of the perfect fluid have been analysed. The paper is aimed at finding exact solutions of Friedmann and Raychaudhuri…
In this paper, we have studied the new exact model of anisotropic star in $f(T)$ theory of gravity. The dynamical equations in $f(T)$ theory with the anisotropic fluid have been solved by using Krori-Barua solution. We have determined that all the obtained solutions are free from central singularity and potentially stable. The observed values of mass and radius of the different strange stars RX J 1856-37, Her X-1, and Vela X-12 have been used to calculate the values of unknown constants in Krori and Barua metric. The physical parameters like anisotropy, stability and redshift of the stars have…
In the present work, we discuss the Wheeler-DeWitt quantization scheme for an n-dimensional anisotropic cosmological model with a perfect fluid in presence of a massless scalar field. We identify the time parameter using the generalization of Schutz formalism and find the wavepacket of the universe following standard Wheeler-DeWitt methodology of quantum cosmology. We also calculate the expectation values of scale factors and volume element. We show that quantized model escapes the singularity and supports bouncing universe solutions.
We explore the influence of density fluctuations on isotropic and anisotropic configurations, extending the concept of cracking for general relativistic fluid spheres. This concept, conceived to describe the behaviour of anisotropic matter distributions just after its departure from equilibrium, could provide some insight on potential instabilities and future evolution of relativistic fluids. We have refined the idea of cracking, considering local fluctuations --represented by any function of compact support defined in a closed interval-- and their effect on the state variables and their gradi…
We construct conformastat spherically symmetric spacetimes representing anisotropic fluid matter distributions from given solutions of the Poisson's equation of Newtonian gravity and its corresponding circular speed profile. As simple examples, we present three families of spherically symmetric spacetimes which we apply in constructing new models of relativistic anisotropic thick spherical shells, and of relativistic galaxy models composite by a central spherical bulge, the thick disk and the dark matter halo, writing in this case the metric in cylindrical coordinates. Moreover, the geodesic m…
Cosmological solutions are obtained in an anisotropic Kantowski-Sachs (KS) and Bianchi Type-I universes considering a cosmological constant with Skyrme fluid. Interestingly, the solutions obtained here in both the KS and Bianchi-I anisotropic universes are found isotropize at late time due to the presence of the Skyrme fluid even in the absence of $Λ$ term or any inflationary mechanism involving the inflaton field. A comparative study of both the anisotropic cosmological models are carried out here and found that Bianchi-I universe admits oscillatory solutions for a given matter configuration.…
A general formalism recently proposed to study Newtonian polytropes for anisotropic fluids is here extended to the relativistic regime. Thus, it is assumed that a polytropic equation of state is satisfied by, both, the radial and the tangential pressures of the fluid. Doing so the generalized Lane--Emden equations are obtained and solved. Some specific models are obtained, and their physical properties are discussed.
An algorithm presented by K. Lake to obtain all static spherically symmetric perfect fluid solutions was recently extended by L. Herrera to the interesting case of locally anisotropic fluids (principal stresses unequal). In this work we develop an algorithm to construct all static spherically symmetric anisotropic solutions for general relativistic polytropes. Again the formalism requires the knowledge of only one function (instead of two) to generate all possible solutions. To illustrate the method some known cases are recovered.
This manuscript is devoted to study the combined effect of a viable model, f(R) = R + αR^n, and electromagnetic field on the instability range of gravitational collapse. We assume charged anisotropic fluid that dissipate energy via heat flow and discuss that electromagnetic field, density inhomogeneity, shear and phase transition on astrophysical bodies can be incorporated by locally anisotropic background. Dynamical equations help to investigate the evolution of self-gravitating objects and leads to the conclusion that adiabatic index depend upon the electromagnetic background, mass and radiu…
We present a class of new relativistic solutions with anisotropic fluid for compact stars in hydrostatic equilibrium. The interior space-time geometry considered here for compact objects are described by parameters namely, $λ$, $k$, $A$, $R$ and $n$. The values of the geometrical parameters are determined here for obtaining a class of physically viable stellar models. The energy-density, radial pressure and tangential pressure are finite and positive inside the anisotropic stars. Considering some stars of known mass we present stellar models which describe compact astrophysical objects with nu…
We consider $f(T)$ gravity for a Weitzenbock spherically symmetric and static spacetime, where the metric is projected in the tangent space to the manifold for a set of non-diagonal tetrads. The matter content is coupled through the energy momentum tensor of an anisotropic fluid, generating various classes of new black hole and wormhole solutions. One of these classes is that of cold black holes. We also perform the reconstruction scheme of the algebraic function $f(T)$ for two cases where the radial pressure is proportional to $f(T)$ and its first derivative.
Spatially homogeneous but totally anisotropic and non-flat Bianchi type II cosmological model has been studied in general relativity in the presence of two minimally interacting fluids; a perfect fluid as the matter fluid and a hypothetical anisotropic fluid as the dark energy fluid. The Einstein's field equations have been solved by applying two kinematical ansätze: we have assumed the variation law for the mean Hubble parameter that yields a constant value of deceleration parameter, and one of the components of the shear tensor has been considered proportional to the mean Hubble parameter. W…
The purpose of this paper is to study the effects of dark energy on dynamics of the collapsing fluid within the framework of metric f(R) gravity. The fluid distribution is assumed to be locally anisotropic and undergoing dissipation in the form of heat flow, null radiations and shear viscosity. For this purpose, we take general spherical symmetric spacetime. Dynamical equations are obtained and also some special solutions are found by considering shearing expansionfree evolution of the fluid. It is found that dark energy affects the mass of the collapsing matter and rate of collapse but does n…
We show the first simple, systematic and direct approach to decoupling gravitational sources in general relativity. As a direct application, a robust and simple way to generate anisotropic solutions for self-gravitating systems from perfect fluid solutions is presented.
In this paper, we study the behavior of perfect fluid and massless scalar field for homogeneous and anisotropic Bianchi type I universe model in $f(R,T)$ gravity, where $R$ is the Ricci scalar and $T$ is the trace of the energy-momentum tensor. We assume the variation law of mean Hubble parameter to obtain exact solutions of the modified field equations. The physical and kinematical quantities are discussed for both models in future evolution of the universe. We check the validity of null energy condition and conclude that our perfect fluid solution can behave like phantom model. Finally, we f…
We develop a simple model for a self-gravitating spherically symmetric relativistic star which begins to collapse from an initially static configuration by dissipating energy in the form of radial heat flow. We utilize the model to show how local anisotropy effects the collapse rate and thermal behaviour of gravitationally evolving systems.
We apply the second-order Israel-Stewart theory of relativistic fluid- and thermodynamics to a physically realistic model of a radiative fluid in a simple anisotropic cosmological background. We investigate the asymptotic future of the resulting cosmological model and review the role of the dissipative phenomena in the early Universe. We demonstrate that the transport properties of the fluid alone, if described appropriately, do not explain the presently observed accelerated expansion of the Universe. Also, we show that, in constrast to the mathematical fluid models widely used before, the rad…
In this work we evaluate the physical acceptability of relativistic anisotropic spheres modeled by two polytropic equations of state -- with the same newtonian limit -- commonly used to describe compact objects in General Relativity. We integrate numerically the corresponding Lane-Emden equation in order to get density, mass and pressure profiles. An ansatz is used for the anisotropic pressure allowing us to have material configurations slightly deviated from isotropic condition. Numerical models are classified in a parameter space according to the number of physical acceptability conditions t…
We investigate dynamics of (4+1) and (5+1) dimensional flat anisotropic Universe filled by a perfect fluid in the Gauss-Bonnet gravity. An analytical solutions valid for particular values of the equation of state parameter $w=1/3$ have been found. For other values of $w$ structure of cosmological singularity have been studied numerically. We found that for $w > 1/3$ the singularity is isotropic. Several important differences between (4+1) and (5+1) dimensional cases are discussed.
Relativistic, spherically symmetric configurations consisting of a gravitating magnetized anisotropic fluid are studied. For such configurations, we obtain static equilibrium solutions with an axisymmetric, poloidal magnetic field produced by toroidal electric currents. The presence of such a field results in small deviations of the shape of the configuration from spherical symmetry. This in turn leads to the modification of an equation for the current and correspondingly to changes in the structure of the internal magnetic field for the systems supported by the anisotropic fluid, in contrast …
In the present article we have obtained new set of exact solutions of Einstein field equations for anisotropic fluid spheres by using the Herrera et al.[1] algorithm. The anisotropic fluid solution so obtained join continuously to Schwarzschild exterior solution across the pressure free boundary. It is observed that most of the new anisotropic solutions are well behaved and utilized to construct the super-dense star models such as neutron star and pulsars.
A class of spherical collapsing exact solutions with electromagnetic charge is derived. This class of solutions -- in general anisotropic -- contains however as a particular case the charged dust model already known in literature. Under some regularity assumptions that in the uncharged case give rise to naked singularities, it is shown that the process of shell focusing singularities avoidance -- already known for the dust collapse -- also takes place here, determing shell crossing effects or a completely regular solution.
We consider the cosmological evolution of a flat anisotropic Universe in $f(T)$ gravity in the presence of a perfect fluid. It is shown that the matter content of the Universe has a significant impact of the nature of a cosmological singularity in the model studied. Depending on the parameters of the $f(T)$ function and the equation of state of the perfect fluid in question the well-known Kasner regime of general relativity can be replaced by a new anisotropic solution, or by an isotropic regime, or the cosmological singularity changes its nature to a non-standard one with a finite values of H…
A class of exact solutions for the Einstein-Maxwell field equations are obtained by assuming the erstwhile cosmological constant $ Λ$ to be a space-variable scalar, viz., $ Λ=Λ(r) $. The source considered here is static, spherically symmetric and anisotropic charged fluid. The solutions obtained are matched continuously to the exterior Reissner-Nordström solution and each of the four solutions represents an electromagnetic mass model.
This paper is devoted to investigate the cylindrical collapse of an anisotropic fluid in $f(R)$ gravity. For this purpose, the viscous charged anisotropic fluid dissipating energy with heat flow and shear is assumed. We use the perturbation scheme to develop the dynamical equations for the variables that ultimately lead to the disturbance of the physical variables and the Starobinksy like $f(R)$ model chosen. The evolution of the matter variables is discussed with the help of these equations. It can be concluded that the range of dynamic instabilities depends on the field strength, density dis…
Taking local anisotropy into consideration, in this paper, some new analytical models of relativistic anisotropic charged quark stars in linear and quadratic regime have been developed. The Einstein-Maxwell field equations have been solved with a particular form of metric potential and electric field intensity. The plots generated show that physical variables such as metric potentials, radial pressure, energy density, charge density, anisotropy, radial speed sound are consistent with realistic stellar models. We obtained some models consistent with stellar objects as 4U 1538-52, Cyg X-2, OGLE-…
We have studied the dynamics of a cylindrical column of anisotropic, charged fluid which is experiencing dissipation in the form of heat flow, free-streaming radiation, and shearing viscosity, undergoing gravitational collapse. We calculate the Einstein-Maxwell field equations and, using the Darmois junction conditions, match the interior non-static cylindrically symmetric space-time with the exterior anisotropic, charged, cylindrically symmetric space-time. The behavior of the density, pressure and luminosity of the collapsing matter has been analyzed. From the dynamical equations, the effect…
The coupled system of the spherically symmetric Einstein--Maxwell differential equations is solved under two different source conditions: non-zero electric charge and pressure anisotropy. Expressions for the metric functions, and pressures which extend the Tolman VII exact solution are deduced from the new solutions. By applying boundary conditions to these solutions, all integration constants are computed in terms of parameters that are physically meaningful.
We set up in detail the general formalism to model polytropic general relativistic stars with anisotropic pressure. We shall consider two different possible polytropic equations, all of which yield the same Lane-Emden equation in the Newtonian limit. A heuristic model based on an ansatz to obtain anisotropic matter solutions from known solutions for isotropic matter is adopted to illustrate the effects of the pressure anisotropy on the structure of the star. In this context, the Tolman mass, which is a measure of the active gravitational mass, is invoked to explain some features of the models.…
We investigate the necessary conditions for the two spacetimes, which are solutions to the Einstein field equations with an anisotropic matter source, to be related to each other by means of a conformal transformation. As a result, we obtain that if one of such spacetimes is a generalization of the Robertson-Walker solution with vanishing acceleration and vorticity, then the other one has to be in this class as well, i.e. the conformal factor will be a constant function on the hypersurfaces orthogonal to the fluid flow lines. The evolution equation for this function appears naturally as a dire…
