In this paper we get a version of mean value inequality for generalized self-expander type submanifolds in Euclidean space. As the application, we prove that if mean curvature flow $M(t)$ on the self-expander in Euclidean space subconverges to an $n$-rectifiable varifold $T$ in weak sense for $t$ goes to the singular time, then $T$ must be the cone.
We obtain explicit solutions of the mean curvature flow in some submanifolds of the Euclidean space. We give particularly an explicit solution of the flow of a hypersurface in the Lagrangian self-expander $L$ which is constructed in the article of Joyce, Lee and Tsui and show that it converge to a minimal one.
In the present paper, we obtain the basic Chen inequalities for submanifolds of quaternion Kaehler-like statistical manifolds. Also, we discuss the same inequality for Lagrangian submanifolds.
In the present paper, we obtain the basic Chen inequalities for the statistical submanifolds of statistical cosymplectic manifolds. Also, we discuss the same inequalities for Legendrian submanifolds.
Recently Oprea gave an improved version of Chen's inequality for Lagrangian submanifolds of $\mathbb CP^n(4)$. For minimal submanifolds this inequality coincides with the original previously proved version. We consider here those non minimal 3-dimensional Lagrangian submanifolds in $\mathbb CP^3 (4)$ attaining at all points equality in the improved Chen inequality. We show how all such submanifolds may be obtained starting from a minimal Lagrangian surface in $\mathbb CP^2(4)$ and a suitable horizontal curve in $S^3(1)$.
We prove an isoperimetric-type inequality for maximal, spacelike submanifold in the Minkowski space. The argument is based on the recent work of Brendle.
We prove a sharp logarithmic Sobolev inequality which holds for compact submanifolds without boundary in Riemannian manifold with nonnegative sectional curvature of arbitrary dimension and codimension, while the ambient manifold needs to have a specific Euclid-like property. Like the Michael-Simon Sobolev inequality, this inequality includes a term involving the mean curvature. This extends a recent result of S. Brendle with Euclidean setting.
We provide a parametric construction in terms of minimal surfaces of the Euclidean submanifolds of codimension two and arbitrary dimension that attain equality in an inequality due to De Smet, Dillen, Verstraelen and Vrancken. The latter involves the scalar curvature, the norm of the normal curvature tensor and the length of the mean curvature vector.
B.-Y. Chen initiated the study of warped product submanifolds in his fundamental seminal papers \cite{C1,C2,C2.1}. In this paper, we study contact CR-warped product submanifolds of cosymplectic space forms and prove an optimal inequality by using Gauss and Codazzi equations. In addition, we obtain two geometric inequalities for contact CR-warped product submanifolds with a compact invariant factor.
We construct examples of shrinkers and expanders for Lagrangian mean curvature flows. These examples are Hamiltonian stationary and asymptotic to the union of two Hamiltonian stationary cones found by Schoen and Wolfson. The Schoen-Wolfson cones $C_{p,q}$ are obstructions to the existence problems of special Lagrangians or Lagrangian minimal surfaces in the variational approach. It is known that these cone singularities cannot be resolved by any smooth oriented Lagrangian submanifolds. The shrinkers and expanders that we found can be glued together to yield solutions of the Brakke motion-a wea…
Non-existence of warped product semi-slant submanifolds of Kaehler manifolds was proved in [17], it is interesting to find their existence. In this paper, we prove the existence of warped product semi-slant submanifolds of nearly Kaehler manifolds by a characterization. To this end we obtain an inequality for the squared norm of second fundamental form in terms of the warping function and the slant angle. The equality case is also discussed.
In this paper, we obtain a basic Chen's inequality for a C-totally real submanifold in a generalized $(κ,μ)$-contact space forms involving intrinsic invariants, namely the scalar curvature and the sectional curvatures of the submanifold on left hand side and the main extrinsic invariant, namely the squared mean curvature on the right hand side. Inequalities between the squared mean curvature and Ricci curvature and between the squared mean curvature and $k$-Ricci curvature are also obtained.
In this paper, the first Chen inequality is proved for general warped product submanifolds in Riemannian space forms, this inequality involves intrinsic invariants ($δ$-invariant and sectional curvature) controlled by an extrinsic one (the mean curvature vector), which provides an answer for Problem 1. As a geometric application, this inequality is applied to derive a necessary condition for the immersed submanifold to be minimal in Riemannian space forms, which presents a partial answer for the well-known problem proposed by S.S. Chern, Problem 2. For further research directions, we address a…
An isoparametric hypersurface in unit spheres has two focal submanifolds. Condition A plays a crucial role in the classification theory of isoparametric hypersurfaces in [CCJ07], [Chi16] and [Miy13]. This paper determines $C_A$, the set of points with Condition A in focal submanifolds. It turns out that the points in $C_A$ reach an upper bound of the normal scalar curvature $ρ^{\bot}$ (sharper than that in DDVV inequality [GT08], [Lu11]). We also determine the sets $C_P$ (points with parallel second fundamental form) and $C_E$ (points with Einstein condition), which achieve two lower bounds of…
In this paper, we study warped products of contact skew-CR submanifolds, called contact skew CR-warped products. We establish an inequality for the squared norm of the second fundamental form in terms of the warping function and the slant angle. The equality case in the statement of the inequality is investigated and some applications of derived inequality are given. Furthermore, we provide a non-trivial example of such submanifolds.
We introduce sequential warped product submanifolds of Kaehler manifolds, provide examples and establish Chen's inequality for such submanifolds. The equality case is also studied. Moreover, by inspiring Lawson and Simons's integral currrent's theorem on a submanifold, we find a similar pinching inequality for a sequential warped product submanifold and obtain geometric results when the equality case is satisfied.
Recently, we have shown that there do not exist the warped product semi-slant submanifolds of cosymplectic manifolds [10]. As nearly cosymplectic structure generalizes cosymplectic ones same as nearly Kaehler generalizes Kaehler structure in almost Hermitian setting. It is interesting that the warped product semi-slant submanifolds exist in nearly cosymplectic case while in case of cosymplectic do not exist. In the beginning, we prove some preparatory results and finally we obtain an inequality such as $\|h\|^2 \geq 4q\csc^2θ\{1+\frac{1}{9}\cos^2θ\}\|\nabla \ln f\|^2$ in terms of intrinsic and…
We present Chen-Ricci inequality and improved Chen-Ricci inequality for curvature like tensors. Applying our improved Chen-Ricci inequality we study Lagrangian and Kaehlerian slant submanifolds of complex space forms and C-totally real submanifolds of Sasakian space forms.
In the present note, first we derive an intrinsic inequality for Pseudo-umbilical spacelike submanifold in an indefinite space form. We use this inequality to show that such submanifold is totally geodesic. In the rest part of this paper, using a result of Aiyama [1], we prove that Pseudo-umbilical spacelike subamnifold is totally umbilical.
We prove a sharp logarithmic Sobolev inequality which holds for submanifolds in Euclidean space of arbitrary dimension and codimension. Like the Michael-Simon Sobolev inequality, this inequality includes a term involving the mean curvature.
We prove a Sobolev inequality which holds on submanifolds in Euclidean space of arbitrary dimension and codimension. This inequality is sharp if the codimension is at most 2. As a special case, we obtain a sharp isoperimetric inequality for minimal submanifolds in Euclidean space of codimension at most 2.
In this paper, warped product contact $CR$-submanifolds in Sasakian, Kenmotsu and cosymplectic manifolds are shown to possess a geometric property; namely $\mathcal{D}_T$-minimal. Taking benefit from this property, an optimal general inequality for warped product contact $CR$-submanifolds is established in both Sasakian and Kenmotsu manifolds by means of the Gauss equation, we leave cosyplectic because it is an easy structure. Moreover, a rich geometry appears when the necessity and sufficiency are proved and discussed in the equality case. Applying this general inequality, the inequalities ob…
We establish two main inequalities; one for the norm of the second fundamental form and the other for the matrix of the shape operator. The results obtained are for cosymplectic manifolds and, for these, we show that the contact warped product submanifolds naturally possess a geometric property; namely $\mathcal{D}_1$-minimality which, by means of the Gauss equation, allows us to obtain an optimal general inequality. For sake of generalization, we state our hypotheses for nearly cosymplectic manifolds, then we obtain them as particular cases for cosymplectic manifolds. For the other part of th…
It was proved in [8,9] that every Lagrangian submanifold $M$ of a complex space form $\tilde M^{5}(4c)$ of constant holomorphic sectional curvature $4c$ satisfies the following optimal inequality: {align}\tag{A}δ(2,2)\leq \text{\small${25}{4}$} H^{2}+8c,{align} where $H^{2}$ is the squared mean curvature and $δ(2,2)$ is a $δ$-invariant on $M$ introduced by the first author. This optimal inequality improves a special case of an earlier inequality obtained in [B.-Y. Chen, Japan. J. Math. 26 (2000), 105-127]. The main purpose of this paper is to classify Lagrangian submanifolds of $\tilde M^{5}(4…
A submanifold in space forms satisfies the well-known DDVV inequality due to De Smet, Dillen, Verstraelen and Vrancken. The submanifold attaining equality in the DDVV inequality at every point is called Wintgen ideal submanifold. As conformal invariant objects, Wintgen ideal submanifolds are studied in this paper using the framework of Möbius geometry. We classify Wintgen ideal submanfiolds of dimension $m>2$ and arbitrary codimension when a canonically defined 2-dimensional distribution $\mathbb{D}$ is integrable. Such examples come from cones, cylinders, or rotational submanifolds over super…
The aim of this paper is to prove isoperimetric inequalities on submanifolds of the Euclidean space using mass transportation methods. We obtain a sharp ?weighted isoperimetric inequality? and a nonsharp classical inequality similar to the one obtained by J. Michael and L. Simon. The proof relies on the description of a solution of the problem of Monge when the initial measure is supported in a submanifold and the final one supported in a linear subspace of the same dimension.
We study bi-warped product submanifolds of nearly Kaehler manifolds which are the natural extension of warped products. We prove that every bi-warped product submanifold of the form $M=M_T\times_{f_1}\! M_\perp\times_{f_2}\! M_θ$ in a nearly Kaehler manifold satisfies the following sharp inequality: $$\|h\|^2\geq 2p\|\nabla (\ln f_1)\|^2+4q\left(1+{\small \frac{10}{9}}\cot^2θ\right)\|\nabla(\ln f_2)\|^2,$$ where $p=\dim M_\perp$, $q=\frac{1}{2}\dim M_θ$, and $f_1,\,f_2$ are smooth positive functions on $M_T$. We also investigate the equality case of this inequality. Further, some applications …
After works by Michael and Simon [10], Hoffman and Spruck [9], and White [14], the celebrated Sobolev inequality could be extended to submanifolds in a huge class of Riemannian manifolds. The universal constant obtained depends only on the dimension of the submanifold. A sort of applications to the submanifold theory and geometric analysis have been obtained from that inequality. It is worthwhile to point out that, by a Nash Theorem, every Riemannian manifold can be seen as a submanifold in some Euclidean space. In the same spirit, Carron obtained a Hardy inequality for submanifolds in Euclide…
We generalize an inequality of E. Heintze and H. Karcher [8] for the volume of tubes around minimal submanifolds to an inequality based on integral bounds for $k$-Ricci curvature. Even in the case of a pointwise bound, this generalizes the classical inequality by replacing a sectional curvature bound with a $k$-Ricci bound. This work is motivated by the estimates of Petersen-Shteingold-Wei for the volume of tubes around a geodesic [12] and generalizes their result. Using similar ideas we also prove a Hessian comparison theorem for $k$-Ricci curvature which generalizes the usual Hessian and Lap…
Let $x:M\to S^{n+p}$ be an $n$-dimensional submanifold in an $(n+p)$-dimensional unit sphere $S^{n+p}$, $x:M\to S^{n+p}$ is called a Willmore submanifold to the following Willmore functional: $$ \int_M(S-nH^2)^{\frac{n}{2}}dv, $$ where $S=\sum\limits_{α,i,j}(h^α_{ij})^2$ is the square of the length of the second fundamental form, $H$ is the mean curvature of $M$. In [13], author proved an integral inequality of Simon's type for $n$-dimensional compact Willmore hypersurfaces in $S^{n+1}$ and gave a characterization of {\it Willmore tori}. In this paper, we generalize this result to $n$-dimensio…
In this paper, we will first derive a DDVV-type optimal inequality for real skew-symmetric matrices, then we apply it to establish a Simons-type integral inequality for Riemannian submersions with totally geodesic fibres and Yang-Mills horizontal distributions. In this way, we show phenomenons of duality between Submanifold geometry and Riemannnian submersion, particularly between second fundamental form of a submanifold and integrability tensor of a Riemannian submersion.
The CR $δ$-invariant for CR-submanifolds was introduced in a recent article [B. Y. Chen, An optimal inequality for CR-warped products in complex space forms involving CR $δ$-invariant, Internat. J. Math. 23} (2012), no. 3, 1250045 (17 pages)]. In this paper, we prove two new optimal inequalities for anti-holomorphic submanifolds in complex space forms involving the CR $δ$-invariant. Moreover, we obtain some classification results for certain anti-holomorphic submanifolds in complex space forms which satisfy the equality case of either inequality.
Recently, M. Atcken studied Contact CR-warped prod- uct submanifolds in cosymplectic space forms and established gen- eral sharp inequalities for CR-warped products in a cosymplectic manifold [1]. In the present paper, we obtain an inequality for the squared norm of the second fundamental form in terms of constant ?$ϕ$-sectional curvature for hemi-slant products in cosymplectic mani- folds. An inequality for hemi-slant warped products in a cosymplectc manifold is also given. The equality case is considered.

In this paper, we study self-expanders for mean curvature flows. First we show the discreteness of the spectrum of the drifted Laplacian on them. Next we give a universal lower bound of the bottom of the spectrum of the drifted Laplacian and prove that this lower bound is achieved if and only if the self-expander is the Euclidian subspace through the origin. Further, for self-expanders of codimension $1$, we prove an inequality between the bottom of the spectrum of the drifted Laplacian and the bottom of the spectrum of weighted stability operator and that the hyperplane through the origin is …
We study a pointwise inequality for submanifolds in real space forms involving the scalar curvature, the normal scalar curvature and the mean curvature. We translate it into an algebraic problem, allowing us to prove a slightly weaker version of it. We also prove the conjecture for certain types of submanifolds of $\mathbb C^n$.
Given a complete isometric immersion $ϕ: P^m \longrightarrow N^n$ in an ambient Riemannian manifold $N^n$ with a pole and with radial sectional curvatures bounded from above by the corresponding radial sectional curvatures of a radially symmetric space $M^n_w$, we determine a set of conditions on the extrinsic curvatures of $P$ that guarantees that the immersion is proper and that $P$ has finite topology, in the line of the paper "On Submanifolds With Tamed Second Fundamental Form", (Glasgow Mathematical Journal, 51, 2009), authored by G. Pacelli Bessa and M. Silvana Costa. When the ambient ma…
Let $Σ$ be a $k$-dimensional complete proper minimal submanifold in the Poincaré ball model $B^n$ of hyperbolic geometry. If we consider $Σ$ as a subset of the unit ball $B^n$ in Euclidean space, we can measure the Euclidean volumes of the given minimal submanifold $Σ$ and the ideal boundary $\partial_\infty Σ$, say $\rvol(Σ)$ and $\rvol(\partial_\infty Σ)$, respectively. Using this concept, we prove an optimal linear isoperimetric inequality. We also prove that if $\rvol(\partial_\infty Σ) \geq \rvol(\mathbb{S}^{k-1})$, then $Σ$ satisfies the classical isoperimetric inequality. By proving the…
For submanifolds tangent to the structure vector field in cosymplectic space forms, we establish a basic inequality between the main intrinsic invariants of the submanifold, namely its sectional curvature and scalar curvature on one side; and its main extrinsic invariant, namely squared mean curvature on the other side. Some applications including inequalities between the intrinsic invariant $δ_{M}$ and the squared mean curvature are given. The equality cases are also discussed
We introduce the totally absolute lightcone curvature for a spacelike submanifold with general codimension and investigate global properties of this curvature. One of the consequences is that the Chern-Lashof type inequality holds. Then the notion of lightlike tightness is naturally induced.
It was proven in [B.-Y. Chen, F. Dillen, J. Van der Veken and L. Vrancken, Curvature inequalities for Lagrangian submanifolds: the final solution, Differ. Geom. Appl. 31 (2013), 808-819] that every Lagrangian submanifold $M$ of a complex space form $\tilde M^{n}(4c)$ of constant holomorphic sectional curvature $4c$ satisfies the following optimal inequality: \begin{align*} δ(2,n-2) \leq \frac{n^2(n-2)}{4(n-1)} H^2 + 2(n-2) c, \end{align*} where $H^2$ is the squared mean curvature and $δ(2,n-2)$ is a $δ$-invariant on $M$. In this paper we classify Lagrangian submanifolds of complex space forms …
We obtain a basic inequality involving the Laplacian of the warping function and the squared mean curvature of any warped product isometrically immersed in a Riemannian manifold without assuming any restriction on the Riemann curvature tensor of the ambient manifold. Applying this general theory, we obtain basic inequalities involving the Laplacian of the warping function and the squared mean curvature of $C$-totally real warped product submanifolds of $(κ,μ) $-space forms, Sasakian space forms and non-Sasakian $(κ,μ) $-manifolds. Then we obtain obstructions to the existence of minimal isometr…
In this paper, we study warped product submanifolds of nearly trans-Sasakian manifolds. The non-existence of the warped product semi-slant submanifolds of the type $N_θ\times{_{f}N_T}$ is shown, whereas some characterization and new geometric obstructions are obtained for the warped products of the type $N_T\times{_{f}N_θ}$. We establish two general inequalities for the squared norm of the second fundamental form. The first inequality generalizes derived inequalities for some contact metric manifolds [16, 18, 19, 24], while by a new technique, the second inequality is constructed to express th…
B. Y. Chen established sharp inequalities between certain Riemannian invariants and the squared mean curvature for submanifolds in real space form as well as in complex space form. In this paper we generalize Chen inequalities for submanifolds of Bochner Kaehler manifolds. Moreover, we consider CR-warped product submanifolds of Bochner Kaehler manifold and establish an inequality for scalar curvature.
In this paper we establish a general inequality involving the Laplacian of the warping functions and the squared mean curvature of any doubly warped product isometrically immersed in a Riemannian manifold. Moreover, we obtain some geometric inequalities for C-totally real doubly warped product submanifolds of generalized $(κ,μ)$-space forms.
In the theory of submanifolds, the following problem is fundamental: to establish simple relationships between the main intrinsic invariants and the main extrinsic invariants of the submanifolds. The basic relationships discovered until now [1, 2, 3, 4] are inequalities. To analyze these problems, we follow the idea of C. Udriste [6, 7, 8] that the method of constrained extremum is a natural way to prove geometric inequalities. We improve the Chen's inequality which characterizes a totally real submanifold of a complex space form. For that we suppose that the submanifold is Lagrangian and we fo…
