In this paper, we study the signed total domination number in graphs and present new sharp lower and upper bounds for this parameter. For example by making use of the classic theorem of Turan, we present a sharp lower bound on this parameter for graphs with no complete graph of order r+1 as a subgraph. Also, we prove that n-2(s-s') is an upper bound on the signed total domination number of any tree of order n with s support vertices and s' support vertives of degree two. Moreover, we characterize all trees attainig this bound.
In this paper, we study the signed domination numbers of graphs and present new sharp lower and upper bounds for this parameter. As an example, we present a lower bound on signed domination number of trees in terms of the order, leaves and support vertices.
For a graph G, a signed domination function of G is a two-colouring of the vertices of G with colours +1 and -1 such that the closed neighbourhood of every vertex contains more +1's than -1's. This concept is closely related to combinatorial discrepancy theory as shown by Fueredi and Mubayi [J. Combin. Theory, Ser. B 76 (1999) 223-239]. The signed domination number of G is the minimum of the sum of colours for all vertices, taken over all signed domination functions of G. In this paper, we present new upper and lower bounds for the signed domination number. These new bounds improve a number of…
A signed dominating function of graph $Γ$ is a function $g :V(Γ) \longrightarrow \{-1,1\}$ such that $\sum_{u \in N[v]}g(u) >0$ for each $v \in V(Γ)$. The signed domination number $γ_{_S}(Γ)$ is the minimum weight of a signed dominating function on $Γ$. Let $G=\langle S \rangle$ be a finite group such that $e \not\in S=S^{-1}$. In this paper, we obtain the signed domination number of $Cay(S:G)$ based on cardinality of $S$. Also we determine the classification of group $G$ by $|S|$ and $γ_{_S}(Cay(S:G))$.
The closed neighborhood $N_G[e]$ of an edge $e$ in a graph $G$ is the set consisting of $e$ and of all edges having an end-vertex in common with $e$. Let $f$ be a function on $E(G)$, the edge set of $G$, into the set $\{-1,1\}$. If $\sum_{x\in{N[e]}}f(x)\geq 1$ for each edge $e \in E(G)$, then $f$ is called a signed edge dominating function of $G$. The signed edge domination number of $G$ is the minimum weight of a signed edge dominating function of $G$. In this paper, we find the signed edge domination number of the complete tripartite graph $K_{m,n,p}$, where $1\leq m\leq n$ and $p\geq m+n$.…
In a graph $G$, a vertex dominates itself and its neighbors. A subset $D \subseteq V(G)$ is a double dominating set of $G$ if $D$ dominates every vertex of $G$ at least twice. A signed graph $Σ= (G,σ)$ is a graph $G$ together with an assignment $σ$ of positive or negative signs to all its edges. A cycle in a signed graph is positive if the product of its edge signs is positive. A signed graph is balanced if all its cycles are positive. A subset $D \subseteq V(Σ)$ is a double dominating set of $Σ$ if it satisfies the following conditions: (i) $D$ is a double dominating set of $G$, and (ii) $Σ[D…
In this paper, we study the inverse signed total domination number in graphs and present new lower and upper bounds on this parameter. For example by making use of the classic theorem of Turan (1941), we present a sharp upper bound for graphs with no induced complete subgraph of order greater than two. Also, we bound this parameter for a tree in terms of its order and the number of leaves and characterize all trees attaining this bound.
In this paper we determine the exact values of the signed domination number, signed total domination number, and minus domination number of complete multipartite graphs, which substantially generalizes some previous results obtained for special subclasses of complete multipartite graphs such as cliques and complete bipartite graphs.
Let $1 \leq k \leq n$ be a positive integer. A {\em nonnegative signed $k$-subdominating function} is a function $f:V(G) \rightarrow \{-1,1\}$ satisfying $\sum_{u\in N_G[v]}f(u) \geq 0$ for at least $k$ vertices $v$ of $G$. The value $\min\sum_{v\in V(G)} f(v)$, taking over all nonnegative signed $k$-subdominating functions $f$ of $G$, is called the {\em nonnegative signed $k$-subdomination number} of $G$ and denoted by $γ^{NN}_{ks}(G)$. When $k=|V(G)|$, $γ^{NN}_{ks}(G)=γ^{NN}_s(G)$ is the {\em nonnegative signed domination number}, introduced in \cite{HLFZ}. In this paper, we investigate seve…
In this paper we deal with the calculation of the signed (total) Roman domination numbers, $γ_{sR}$ and $γ_{stR}$ respectively, on a few classes of planar graphs from the literature. We give proofs for the exact values of the numbers $γ_{sR}(A_n)$ and $γ_{sR}(R_n)$ as well as the numbers $γ_{stR}(S_n)$ and $γ_{stR}(T_n)$. For some other classes of planar graphs, such as $Q_n$, %$S_n"$ and $T_n"$, lower and upper bounds on $γ_{sR}$ are calculated and proved. %We give some open problems on the exact values of $γ_{sR}$ and $γ_{stR}$ for some classes of planar graphs.
The aim of this work is to investigate the nonnegative signed domination number $γ^{NN}_s$ with emphasis on regular, ($r+1$)-clique-free graphs and trees. We give lower and upper bounds on $γ^{NN}_s$ for regular graphs and prove that $n/3$ is the best possible upper bound on this parameter for a cubic graph of order $n$, specifically. As an application of the classic theorem of Turán we bound $γ^{NN}_s(G)$ from below, for an ($r+1$)-clique-free graph $G$ and characterize all such graphs for which the equality holds, which corrects and generalizes a result for bipartite graphs in [Electron. J. …
Let $k$ be a positive integer and $G=(V,E)$ be a graph of minimum degree at least $k-1$. A function $f:V\rightarrow \{-1,1\}$ is called a \emph{signed $k$-dominating function} of $G$ if $\sum_{u\in N_G[v]}f(u)\geq k$ for all $v\in V$. The \emph{signed $k$-domination number} of $G$ is the minimum value of $\sum_{v\in V}f(v)$ taken over all signed $k$-dominating functions of $G$. The \emph{signed total $k$-dominating function} and \emph{signed total $k$-domination number} of $G$ can be similarly defined by changing the closed neighborhood $N_G[v]$ to the open neighborhood $N_G(v)$ in the definit…
A signed edge domination function (or SEDF) of a simple graph $G=(V,E)$ is a function $f: E\rightarrow \{1,-1\}$ such that $\sum_{e'\in N[e]}f(e')\ge 1$ holds for each edge $e\in E$, where $N[e]$ is the set of edges in $G$ that share at least one endpoint with $e$. Let $γ_s'(G)$ denote the minimum value of $f(G)$ among all SEDFs $f$, where $f(G)=\sum_{e\in E}f(e)$.In 2005, Xu conjectured that $γ_s'(G)\le n-1$, where $n$ is the order of $G$. This conjecture has been proved for the two cases $v_{odd}(G)=0$ and $v_{even}(G)=0$, where $v_{odd}(G)$ (resp. $v_{even}(G)$) is the number of odd (resp. …
Recently the notion of $k$-rainbow total domination was introduced for a graph $G$, motivated by a desire to reduce the problem of computing the total domination number of the generalized prism $G \Box K_k$ to an integer labeling problem on $G$. In this paper we further demonstrate usefulness of the labeling approach, presenting bounds on the rainbow total domination number in terms of the total domination number, the rainbow domination number and the rainbow total domination number, as well as the usual domination number, where the latter presents a generalization of a result by Goddard and H…
In this paper, we continue the study of the total domination game in graphs introduced in [Graphs Combin. 31(5) (2015), 1453--1462], where the players Dominator and Staller alternately select vertices of $G$. Each vertex chosen must strictly increase the number of vertices totally dominated, where a vertex totally dominates another vertex if they are neighbors. This process eventually produces a total dominating set $S$ of $G$ in which every vertex is totally dominated by a vertex in $S$. Dominator wishes to minimize the number of vertices chosen, while Staller wishes to maximize it. The game …
A sequence $(v_1,\ldots ,v_k)$ of vertices in a graph $G$ without isolated vertices is called a total dominating sequence if every vertex $v_i$ in the sequence totally dominates at least one vertex that was not totally dominated by $\{v_1,\ldots , v_{i-1}\}$ and $\{v_1,\ldots ,v_k\}$ is a total dominating set of $G$. The length of a shortest such sequence is the total domination number of G ($γ_t(G)$), while the length of a longest such sequence is the Grundy total domination number of $G$ ($γ_{gr}^t(G)$). In this paper we study graphs with equal total and Grundy total domination number. We ch…
For a graph $G=(V,E)$, we call a subset $ S\subseteq V \cup E$ a total mixed dominating set of $G$ if each element of $V \cup E$ is either adjacent or incident to an element of $S$, and the total mixed domination number $γ_{tm}(G)$ of $G$ is the minimum cardinality of a total mixed dominating set of $G$. In this paper, we initiate to study the total mixed domination number of a connected graph by giving some tight bounds in terms of some parameters such as order and total domination numbers of the graph and its line graph. Then we discuss on the relation between total mixed domination number o…
In this paper, we show that several graph parameters are known in different areas under completely different names. More specifically, our observations connect signed domination, monopolies, $α$-domination, $α$-independence, positive influence domination, and a parameter associated to fast information propagation in networks to parameters related to various notions of global $r$-alliances in graphs. We also propose a new framework, called (global) $(D,O)$-alliances, not only in order to characterize various known variants of alliance and domination parameters, but also to suggest a unifying fr…
A subset $S$ of vertices of a digraph $D$ is a double dominating set (total $2$-dominating set) if every vertex not in $S$ is adjacent from at least two vertices in $S$, and every vertex in $S$ is adjacent from at least one vertex in $S$ (the subdigraph induced by $S$ has no isolated vertices). The double domination number (total $2$-domination number) of a digraph $D$ is the minimum cardinality of a double dominating set (total $2$-dominating set) in $D$. In this work, we investigate these concepts which can be considered as two extensions of double domination in graphs to digraphs, along wit…
The domination multisubdivision number of a nonempty graph $G$ was defined as the minimum positive integer $k$ such that there exists an edge which must be subdivided $k$ times to increase the domination number of $G$. Similarly we define the total domination multisubdivision number msd$_{γ_t}(G)$ of a graph $G$ and we show that for any connected graph $G$ of order at least two, msd$_{γ_t}(G)\leq 3.$ We show that for trees the total domination multisubdivision number is equal to the known total domination subdivision number. We also determine the total domination multisubdivision number for so…
A subset $S\subseteq V$ in a graph $G=(V,E)$ is a total $[1,2]$-set if, for every vertex $v\in V$, $1\leq |N(v)\cap S|\leq 2$. The minimum cardinality of a total $[1,2]$-set of $G$ is called the total $[1,2]$-domination number, denoted by $γ_{t[1,2]}(G)$. We establish two sharp upper bounds on the total [1,2]-domination number of a graph $G$ in terms of its order and minimum degree, and characterize the corresponding extremal graphs achieving these bounds. Moreover, we give some sufficient conditions for a graph without total $[1,2]$-set and for a graph with the same total $[1,2]$-domination n…
The first three authors [European J. Combin. 33 (2012), 62--71] established a relationship between the transversal number and the domination number of uniform hypergraphs. In this paper, we establish a relationship between the total transversal number and the total domination number of uniform hypergraphs. We prove tight asymptotic upper bounds on the total transversal number in terms of the number of vertices, the number of edges, and the edge size.
Given a graph $G$, a total dominating set $D_t$ is a vertex set that every vertex of $G$ is adjacent to some vertices of $D_t$ and let $d_t(G,i)$ be the number of all total dominating sets with size $i$. The total domination polynomial, defined as $D_t(G,x)=\sum\limits_{i=1}^{| V(G)|} d_t(G,i)x^i$, recently has been one of the considerable extended research in the field of domination theory. In this paper, we obtain the vertex-reduction and edge-reduction formulas of total domination polynomials. As consequences, we give the total domination polynomials for paths and cycles. Additionally, we d…
In this paper we describe a strategy for Dominator that finishes the total domination game in at most $3/4n$ moves for every graph $G$ on $n$ vertices without any isolated vertices or edges, confirming the 3/4-conjecture for the total domination game made by Henning, Klav{ž}ar, and Rall.
Let $G$ be a simple and finite graph without isolated vertices. In this paper we introduce and study a new degree sequence derived invariant called the \emph{sub-total domination number}, denoted $\sub_t(G)$. In particular, we show that $\sub_t(G)$ serves as a lower bound on $γ_t(G)$, where $γ_t(G)$ denotes the heavily studied \emph{total domination number} of $G$.
We consider two general frameworks for multiple domination, which are called <r,s>-domination and parametric domination. They generalise and unify {k}-domination, k-domination, total k-domination and k-tuple domination. In this paper, known upper bounds for the classical domination are generalised for the <r,s>-domination and parametric domination numbers. These generalisations imply new upper bounds for the {k}-domination and total k-domination numbers. Also, we study threshold functions, which impose additional restrictions on the minimum vertex degree, and present new upper bounds for the a…
Let $G$ be a graph with minimum degree at least 2. A set $D\subseteq V$ is a double total dominating set of $G$ if each vertex is adjacent to at least two vertices in $D$. The double total domination number $γ_{\times 2,t}(G)$ of $G$ is the minimum cardinality of a double total dominating set of $G$. In this paper, we will find double total domination number of Harary graphs.
A total dominating set of a graph G with no isolated vertices is a subset S of the vertex set such that every vertex of G is adjacent to a vertex in S. The total domination number of G is the minimum cardinality of a total dominating set of G. In this paper, we study the total domination number of middle graphs. Indeed, we obtain tight bounds for this number in terms of the order of the graph G. We also compute the total domination number of the middle graph of some known families of graphs explicitly. Moreover, some Nordhaus-Gaddum-like relations are presented for the total domination number …
In this paper, we present new upper bounds for the global domination and Roman domination numbers and also prove that these results are asymptotically best possible. Moreover, we give upper bounds for the restrained domination and total restrained domination numbers for large classes of graphs, and show that, for almost all graphs, the restrained domination number is equal to the domination number, and the total restrained domination number is equal to the total domination number. A number of open problems are posed.
Let $G$ be a graph without isolated vertices. The total domination number of $G$ is the minimum number of vertices that can dominate all vertices in $G$, and the paired domination number of $G$ is the minimum number of vertices in a dominating set whose induced subgraph contains a perfect matching. This paper determines the total domination number and the paired domination number of the toroidal meshes, i.e., the Cartesian product of two cycles $C_n$ and $C_m$ for any $n\ge 3$ and $m\in\{3,4\}$, and gives some upper bounds for $n, m\ge 5$.
A locating-dominating set (LDS) of a graph $G$ is a dominating set $S$ of $G$ such that for every two vertices $u$ and $v$ in $V(G) \setminus S$, $N(u)\cap S \neq N(v)\cap S$. The locating-domination number $γ^{L}(G)$ is the minimum cardinality of a LDS of $G$. Further if $S$ is a total dominating set then $S$ is called a locating-total dominating set. In this paper we determine the domination, total domination, locating-domination and locating-total domination numbers for hypertrees and sibling trees.
The game total domination number, ${γ_{g}^{t}}$, was introduced by Henning et al.\ in 2015. In this paper we study the effect of vertex predomination on the game total domination number. We prove that ${γ_{g}^{t}}(G|v) \geq {γ_{g}^{t}}(G) - 2$ holds for all vertices $v$ of a graph $G$ and present infinite families attaining the equality. To achieve this, some new variations of the total domination game are introduced. The effect of vertex removal is also studied. We show that ${γ_{g}^{t}}(G) \leq {γ_{g}^{t}}(G-v) + 4$ and ${γ_{g}^{t}}'(G) \leq {γ_{g}^{t}}'(G-v) + 4$.
Let $G=(V,E)$ be a simple graph. For any integer $k\geq 1$, a subset of $V$ is called a $k$-tuple total dominating set of $G$ if every vertex in $V$ has at least $k$ neighbors in the set. The minimum cardinality of a minimal $k$-tuple total dominating set of $G$ is called the $k$-tuple total domination number of $G$. In this paper, we introduce the concept of upper $k$-tuple total domination number of $G$ as the maximum cardinality of a minimal $k$-tuple total dominating set of $G$, and study the problem of finding a minimal $k$-tuple total dominating set of maximum cardinality on several clas…
Ho proved in [A note on the total domination number, Util.Math. 77 (2008) 97--100] that the total domination number of the Cartesian product of any two graphs with no isolated vertices is at least one half of the product of their total domination numbers. We extend a result of Lu and Hou from [Total domination in the Cartesian product of a graph and $K_2$ or $C_n$, Util. Math. 83 (2010) 313--322] by characterizing the pairs of graphs $G$ and $H$ for which $γ_t(G\Box H)=\frac{1}{2}γ_t(G) γ_t(H)\,$, whenever $γ_t(H)=2$. In addition, we present an infinite family of graphs $G_n$ with $γ_t(G_n)=2n…
Let $G = (V, E)$ be a simple graph of order $n$. The total dominating set of $G$ is a subset $D$ of $V$ that every vertex of $V$ is adjacent to some vertices of $D$. The total domination number of $G$ is equal to minimum cardinality of total dominating set in $G$ and is denoted by $γ_t(G)$. The total domination polynomial of $G$ is the polynomial $D_t(G,x)=\sum_{i=γ_t(G)}^n d_t(G,i)x^i$, where $d_t(G,i)$ is the number of total dominating sets of $G$ of size $i$. A root of $D_t(G,x)$ is called a total domination root of $G$. An irrelevant edge of $D_t(G,x)$ is an edge $e \in E$, such that $D_t(…
A set of vertices $S$ in a simple isolate-free graph $G$ is a semi-total dominating set of $G$ if it is a dominating set of $G$ and every vertex of $S$ is within distance 2 or less with another vertex of $S$. The semi-total domination number of $G$, denoted by $γ_{t2}(G)$, is the minimum cardinality of a semi-total dominating set of $G$. In this paper, we study semi-total domination of Cartesian products of graphs. Our main result establishes that for any graphs $G$ and $H$, $γ_{t2}(G\,\square\, H)\ge \frac{1}{3}γ_{t2}(G)γ_{t2}(H)$.
With the aid of hypergraph transversals it is proved that $γ_t(Q_{n+1}) = 2γ(Q_n)$, where $γ_t(G)$ and $γ(G)$ denote the total domination number and the domination number of $G$, respectively, and $Q_n$ is the $n$-dimensional hypercube. More generally, it is shown that if $G$ is a bipartite graph, then $γ_t(G \square K_2) = 2γ(G)$. Further, we show that the bipartite condition is essential by constructing, for any $k \ge 1$, a (non-bipartite) graph $G$ such that $γ_t (G \square K_2 ) = 2γ(G) - k$. Along the way several domination-type identities for hypercubes are also obtained.
In this paper we begin an exploration of several domination-related parameters (among which are the total, restrained, total restrained, paired, outer connected and total outer connected domination numbers) in the generalized lexicographic product (GLP for short) of graphs. We prove that for each GLP of graphs there exist several equality chains containing these parameters. Some known results on standard lexicographic product of two graphs are generalized or/and extended. We also obtain results on well $μ$-dominated GLP of graphs, where $μ$ stands for any of the above mentioned domination para…
A subset $D$ of vertices of a graph $G$ is a total dominating set if every vertex of $G$ is adjacent to at least one vertex of $D$. The total dominating set $D$ is called a total co-independent dominating set if the subgraph induced by $V-D$ is edgeless and has at least one vertex. The minimum cardinality of any total co-independent dominating set is the total co-independent domination number of $G$ and is denoted by $γ_{t,coi}(G)$. In this work we study some complexity and combinatorial properties of $γ_{t,coi}(G)$. Specifically, we prove that deciding whether $γ_{t,coi}(G)\le k$ for a given …

For a positive integer $k$, a $k$-rainbow dominating function ($k$RDF) on a digraph $D$ is a function $f$ from the vertex set $V(D)$ to the set of all subsets of $\{1,2,\ldots,k\}$ such that for any vertex $v$ with $f(v)=\emptyset$, $\bigcup_{u\in N^-(v)}f(u)=\{1,2,\ldots,k\}$, where $N^-(v)$ is the set of in-neighbors of $v$. The weight of a $k$RDF $f$ is defined as $\sum_{v\in V(D)}|f(v)|$. A $k$RDF $f$ on $D$ with no isolated vertex is called a total $k$-rainbow dominating function if the subdigraph of $D$ induced by the set $\{v\in V(D):f(v)\ne\emptyset\}$ has no isolated vertex. For a given graph $G$ without isolated vertex we consider a function $f: V(G) \rightarrow \{0,1,2\}$. For every $i\in \{0,1,2\}$, let $V_i=\{v\in V(G):\; f(v)=i\}$. The function $f$ is known to be an outer-independent total Roman dominating function for the graph $G$ if it is satisfied that; (i) every vertex in $V_0$ is adjacent to at least one vertex in $V_2$; (ii) $V_0$ is an independent set; and (iii) the subgraph induced by $V_1\cup V_2$ has no isolated vertex. The minimum possible weight $ω(f)=\sum_{v\in V(G)}f(v)$ among all outer-independent total Roman dominating functions for $G$ is ca…
We find new upper bounds on the size of a minimum totally dominating set for random regular graphs and for regular graphs with large girth. These bounds are obtained through the analysis of a local algorithm using a method due to Hoppen and Wormald [Local algorithms, regular graphs of large girth, and random regular graphs. Combinatorica 38(3) (2018), 619-664].

A quasi-total Roman dominating function on a graph $G=(V, E)$ is a function $f : V \rightarrow \{0,1,2\}$ satisfying the following: - every vertex $u$ for which $f(u) = 0$ is adjacent to at least one vertex $v$ for which $f(v) =2$, and - if $x$ is an isolated vertex in the subgraph induced by the set of vertices labeled with 1 and 2, then $f(x)=1$. The weight of a quasi-total Roman dominating function is the value $ω(f)=f(V)=\sum_{u\in V} f(u)$. The minimum weight of a quasi-total Roman dominating function on a graph $G$ is called the quasi-total Roman domination number of $G$. We introduce th…
