Inequivalent N=2 supersymmetrizations of the l-conformal Galilei algebra in d-spatial dimensions are constructed from the chiral (2,2) and the real (1,2,1) basic supermultiplets of the N=2 supersymmetry. For non-negative integer and half-integer l both superalgebras admit a consistent truncation with a (different) finite number of generators. The real N=2 case coincides with the superalgebra introduced by Masterov, while the chiral N=2 case is a new superalgebra. We present D-module representations of both superalgebras. Then we investigate the new superalgebra derived from the chiral supermultiplet. It is shown that it admits two types of central extensions, one is found for any d and half-integer l and the other only for d=2 and integer l. For each central extension the centrally extended l-superconformal Galilei algebra is realized in terms of its super-Heisenberg subalgebra generators.
N=2 supersymmetric extension of the l-conformal Galilei algebra is constructed. A relation between its representations in flat spacetime and in Newton-Hooke spacetime is discussed. An infinite-dimensional generalization of the superalgebra is given.
The group theoretic construction is applied to construct a novel dynamical realization of the $l$--conformal Galilei group in terms of geodesic equations on the coset space. A peculiar feature of the geodesics is that all their integrals of motion, including the accelerations, are functionally independent. The analysis in the recent work [Phys. Lett. B 754 (2016) 249] is extended to construct the Einstein metrics with the $l$--conformal Galilei isometry group.
All unitary irreducible representations of centrally extended (N-odd) N-conformal Galilei group are constructed. The "on-shell" action of the group is derived and shown to coincide, in special but most important case, with that obtained in: J. Gomis, K. Kamimura, Phys. Rev. {\bf D85} (2012), 045023.
An N=4 supersymmetric extension of the l-conformal Galilei algebra is constructed. This is achieved by combining generators of spatial symmetries from the l-conformal Galilei algebra and those underlying the most general superconformal group in one dimension D(2,1;a). The value of the group parameter a is fixed from the requirement that the resulting superalgebra is finite-dimensional. The analysis reveals a=-1/2 thus reducing D(2,1;a) to OSp(4|2).
The analysis previously developed in [J. Math. Phys. 55 (2014) 102901] is used to construct systems which hold invariant under N=2 l-conformal Galilei superalgebra. The models describe two different supersymmetric extensions of a free higher-derivative particle. Their Newton-Hooke counterparts are derived by applying appropriate coordinate transformations.
Finite-dimensional nonrelativistic conformal Lie algebras spanned by polynomial vector fields of Galilei spacetime arise if the dynamical exponent is z=2/N with N=1,2,.... Their underlying group structure and matrix representation are constructed (up to a covering) by means of the Veronese map of degree N. Suitable quotients of the conformal Galilei groups provide us with Newton-Hooke nonrelativistic spacetimes with a quantized reduced negative cosmological constant λ=-N.
The method of nonlinear realizations is applied to the l-conformal Galilei algebra to construct a dynamical system without higher derivative terms in the equations of motion. A configuration space of the model involves coordinates, which parametrize particles in d spatial dimensions, and a conformal mode, which gives rise to an effective external field. It is shown that trajectories of the system can be mapped into those of a set of decoupled oscillators in d dimensions.
Based on the results in [Nucl. Phys. B 866 (2013) 212], we consider a way to construct a higher-derivative mechanical model which possesses the $l$-conformal Galilei symmetry. The dynamical system describes generalized Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillator in the presence of an effective external field.
Ricci-flat metrics of the ultrahyperbolic signature which enjoy the l-conformal Galilei symmetry are constructed. They involve the AdS_2-metric in a way similar to the near horizon black hole geometries. The associated geodesic equations are shown to describe a second order dynamical system for which the acceleration generators are functionally independent.
We present the minimal realization of the $\ell$-conformal Galilei group in 2+1 dimensions on a single complex field. The simplest Lagrangians yield the complex Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillator equations. We introduce a minimal deformation of the $\ell$=1/2 conformal Galilei (a.k.a. Schrödinger) algebra and construct the corresponding invariant actions. Based on a new realization of the d=1 conformal group, we find a massive extension of the near-horizon Kerr-dS/AdS metric.
N=4 supersymmetric extensions of the l-conformal Galilei algebra are constructed by properly extending the Lie superalgebra associated with the most general N=4 superconformal group in one dimension D(2,1;a). If the acceleration generators in the superalgebra form analogues of the irreducible (1,4,3)-, (2,4,2)-, (3,4,1)-, and (4,4,0)-supermultiplets of D(2,1;a), the parameter a turns out to be constrained by the Jacobi identities. In contrast, if the tower of the acceleration generators resembles a component decomposition of a generic real superfield, which is a reducible representation of D(2…
We construct, for any given ${\ell}=\frac{1}{2}+{\mathbb{N}}_0$, the second-order, linear PDEs which are invariant under the centrally extended Conformal Galilei Algebra. \par At the given ${\ell}$, two invariant equations in one time and ${\ell}+\frac{1}{2}$ space coordinates are obtained. The first equation possesses a continuum spectrum and generalizes the free Schrödinger equation (recovered for ${\ell}=\frac{1}{2}$) in $1+1$ dimension. The second equation (the "$\ell$-oscillator") possesses a discrete, positive spectrum. It generalizes the $1+1$-dimensional harmonic oscillator (recovered …
We investigate the representations of a class of conformal Galilei algebras in one spatial dimension with central extension. This is done by explicitly constructing all singular vectors within the Verma modules, proving their completeness and then deducing irreducibility of the associated highest weight quotient modules. A resulting classification of infinite dimensional irreducible modules is presented. It is also shown that a formula for the Kac determinant is deduced from our construction of singular vectors. Thus we prove a conjecture of Dobrev, Doebner and Mrugalla for the case of the Sch…
We present a relationship between the Calogero-Moser particles confined in harmonic oscillator potentials and a representation theory of the infinite dimensional Lie algebra which is a semi-direct sum of Virasoro algebra and its module. More precisely, it is a correspondence of excited states of the model and singular vectors in Verma modules over the algebra. This is found by a free field realization of the time evolution operator of the model. We investigate the Verma modules and some explicit example of singular vectors are given.
Equations of fluid dynamics are formulated, which hold invariant under the action of the l-conformal Galilei group. They include the conventional continuity equation, a higher order material derivative analogue of the Euler equation, and a suitable modification of the conventional equation of state. Conserved charges associated with the l-conformal Galilei symmetry transformations are presented.
The conformal Galilei algebra (CGA) and the exotic conformal Galilei algebra (ECGA) are applied to construct partial differential equations (PDEs) and systems of PDEs, which admit these algebras. We show that there are no single second-order PDEs invariant under the CGA but systems of PDEs can admit this algebra. Moreover, a wide class of nonlinear PDEs exists, which are conditionally invariant under CGA. It is further shown that there are systems of non-linear PDEs admitting ECGA with the realisation obtained very recently in [D. Martelli and Y. Tachikawa, arXiv:0903.5184v2 [hep-th] (2009)]. …
Conformal Galilei Algebras labeled by $d,\ell$ (where $d$ is the number of space dimensions and $\ell$ denotes a spin-${\ell}$ representation w.r.t. the $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$ subalgebra) admit two types of central extensions, the ordinary one (for any $d$ and half-integer $\ell$) and the exotic central extension which only exists for $d=2$ and ${\ell}\in\mathbb{N}$. For both types of central extensions invariant second-order PDEs with continuous spectrum were constructed in [1]. It was later proved in [2] that the ordinary central extensions also lead to oscillator-like PDEs with discrete spectru…
We investigate the general class of second-order PDEs, invariant under the $d=1$ $\ell=\frac{1}{2}+{\mathbb N}_0$ centrally extended Conformal Galilei Algebras, pointing out that they are deformations of decoupled systems. For $\ell=\frac{3}{2}$ the unique deformation parameter $γ$ belongs to the fundamental domain $γ\in ]0,+\infty[$. We show that, for any $γ\neq 0$, invariant PDEs with discrete spectrum (either bounded or unbounded) induce cryptohermitian operators possessing the same spectrum as two decoupled oscillators, provided that their frequencies are in the special ratio $r=\frac{ω_2}…
The issue of constructing N=1,2,3 supersymmetric extensions of the l-conformal Galilei algebra is reconsidered following the approach in [JHEP 1709 (2017) 131]. Drawing a parallel between acceleration generators entering the superalgebra and irreducible supermultiplets of d=1, N-extended superconformal group, a new N=1 l-conformal Galilei superalgebra, two new N=2 variants, and two new N=3 versions are built. Realisations in terms of differential operators in superspace are given.
Dynamical systems which are invariant under N=1 supersymmetric extension of the l-conformal Galilei algebra are constructed. These include a free N=1 superparticle which is governed by higher derivative equations of motion and an N=1 supersymmetric Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillator for a particular choice of its frequencies. A Niederer-like transformation which links the models is proposed.
We consider the dynamics invariant under the action of l-conformal Galilei group using the method of nonlinear realizations. We find that by an appropriate choice of the coset space parametrization one can achieve the complete decoupling of the equations of motion. The Lagrangian and Hamiltonian are constructed. The results are compared with those obtained by Galajinsky and Masterov [Nucl. Phys. B860, (2013), 212].
We discuss non-relativistic conformal algebras generalizing the Schrödinger algebra. One instance of these algebras is a conformal, acceleration-extended, Galilei algebra, which arises also as a contraction of the relativistic conformal algebra. In two dimensions, this admits an "exotic" central extension, whereby boosts do not commute. We study general properties of non-relativistic conformal field theories with such symmetry. We realize geometrically the symmetry in terms of a metric invariant under the exotic conformal Galilei algebra, although its signature is neither Lorentzian nor Euclid…
In two recent papers [N. Aizawa, Y. Kimura, J. Segar, J. Phys. A 46 (2013) 405204] and [N. Aizawa, Z. Kuznetsova, F. Toppan, J. Math. Phys. 56 (2015) 031701], representation theory of the centrally extended l-conformal Galilei algebra with half-integer l has been applied so as to construct second order differential equations exhibiting the corresponding group as kinematical symmetry. It was suggested to treat them as the Schrodinger equations which involve Hamiltonians describing dynamical systems without higher derivatives. The Hamiltonians possess two unusual features, however. First, they i…
We perform a nonrelativistic contraction of N-extended Poincare superalgebra with internal symmetry U(N) and general set of N(N-1) real central charges. We show that for even N=2k and particular choice of the dependence of Z_{ij} on light velocity c one gets the N-extended Galilei superalgebra with unchanged number of central charges and compact internal symmetry algebra U(k;H)=USp(2k). The Hamiltonian positivity condition is modified only by one central charge. If we put all the central charges equal to zero one gets the 2k-extended Galilei superalgebra as the subalgebra of recently introduce…
The symmetries of a free incompressible fluid span the Galilei group, augmented with independent dilations of space and time. When the fluid is compressible, the symmetry is enlarged to the expanded Schroedinger group, which also involves, in addition, Schroedinger expansions. While incompressible fluid dynamics can be derived as an appropriate non-relativistic limit of a conformally-invariant relativistic theory, the recently discussed Conformal Galilei group, obtained by contraction from the relativistic conformal group, is not a symmetry. This is explained by the subtleties of the non-relat…
The general method introduced in a previous paperto build up a class of models invariant under generalization of Carroll and Galilei algebra is extended to systems including a set of Grassmann variables describing the spin degree of freedom. The models described here are based on a relativistic supersymmetric algebra with vector and scalar generators (VSUSY) . Therefore, in order to obtain dynamical systems consistent with Carroll or Galilei, we will study the contractions of the anticommuting generators compatible with the Poincaré contractions.
Firstly we discuss briefly three different algebras named as nonrelativistic (NR) conformal: Schroedinger, Galilean conformal and infinite algebra of local NR conformal isometries. Further we shall consider in some detail Galilean conformal algebra (GCA) obtained in the limit c equal to infinity from relativistic conformal algebra O(d+1,2) (d - number of space dimensions). Two different contraction limits providing GCA and some recently considered realizations will be briefly discussed. Finally by considering NR contraction of D=4 superconformal algebra the Galilei conformal superalgebra (GCSA…
We investigate possibility of central extension for non-relativistic conformal algebras in 1+1 dimension. Three different forms of charges can be suggested. A trivial charge for temporal part of the algebra exists for all elements of l-Galilei algebra class. In attempt to find a central extension as of CGA for other elements of the l-Galilei class, possibility for such extension was excluded. For integer and half integer elements of the class we can have an infinite extension of the generalized mass charge for the Virasoro-like extended algebra. For finite algebras a regular charge inspired by…
Dynamical systems invariant under the action of the l-conformal Newton-Hooke algebras are constructed by the method of nonlinear realizations. The relevant first order Lagrangians together with the corresponding Hamiltonians are found. The relation to the Galajinsky and Masterov [Phys. Lett. B 723 (2013) 190] approach as well as the higher derivatives formulation is discussed. The generalized Niederer's transformation are presented which relate the systems under consideration to those invariant under the action of the l-conformal Galilei algebra [Nucl. Phys. B 876 (2013) 309]. As a nice applic…
After defining conformal Galilean-type algebras for arbitrary dynamical exponent $z$ we consider the particular cases of the conformal Galilei algebra (CGA) and the Schrödinger Lie algebra (sch). Galilei massless particles moving with arbitrary, finite velocity are introduced \begin{description} \item{i)} in $d=2$ as a realization of the centrally extended CGA in 6 dimensional phase space, \item{ii)} in arbitrary spatial dimension $d$ as a realization of the unextended \it{sch} in 4d dimensional phase space. \end{description} A particle system, minimally coupled to gravity, shows, besides Gali…
Conformal Galilei algebra contains so(1,2) subalgebra which is the conformal algebra in one dimension. In this note we generalize methods previously developed for one-dimensional many-body systems and construct a unitary map relating a quantum mechanics invariant under the conformal Galilean transformations to a set of decoupled particles for which the same symmetry is realized in a nonlocal way. Possible applications of the map are discussed.
This article provides us with a unifying classification of the conformal infinitesimal symmetries of non-relativistic Newton-Cartan spacetime. The Lie algebras of non-relativistic conformal transformations are introduced via the Galilei structure. They form a family of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras labeled by a rational "dynamical exponent", $z$. The Schrödinger-Virasoro algebra of Henkel et al. corresponds to $z=2$. Viewed as projective Newton-Cartan symmetries, they yield, for timelike geodesics, the usual Schrödinger Lie algebra, for which z=2. For lightlike geodesics, they yield, in tu…
We will propose a derivation of the correspondence between certain gauge theories with N=2 supersymmetry and conformal field theory discovered by Alday, Gaiotto and Tachikawa in the spirit of Seiberg-Witten theory. Based on certain results from the literature we argue that the quantum theory of the moduli spaces of flat SL(2,R)-connections represents a non-perturbative "skeleton" of the gauge theory, protected by supersymmetry. It follows that instanton partition functions can be characterized as solutions to a Riemann-Hilbert type problem. In order to solve it, we describe the quantization of…
The supersymmetric extension of a model introduced by Lukierski, Stichel and Zakrewski in the non-commutative plane is studied. The Noether charges associated to the symmetries are determined. Their Poisson algebra is investigated in the Ostrogradski--Dirac formalism for constrained Hamiltonian systems. It is shown to provide a supersymmetric generalization of the Galilei algebra with a two-dimensional central extension.
This paper is concerned with a link between central extensions of N=2 superconformal algebra and a supersymmetric two-component generalization of the Camassa--Holm equation. Deformations of superconformal algebra give rise to two compatible bracket structures. One of the bracket structures is derived from the central extension and admits a momentum operator which agrees with the Sobolev norm of a coadjoint orbit element. The momentum operator induces via Lenard relations a chain of conserved hamiltonians of the resulting supersymmetric Camassa-Holm hierarchy.
In four spacetime dimensions, all ${\cal N} =1$ supergravity-matter systems can be formulated in the so-called $\mathsf{U}(1)$ superspace proposed by Howe in 1981. This paper is devoted to the study of those geometric structures which characterise a background $\mathsf{U}(1)$ superspace and are important in the context of supersymmetric field theory in curved space. We introduce (conformal) Killing tensor superfields $\ell_{(α_1 \dots α_m) ({\dot α}_1 \dots {\dot α}_n)}$, with $m$ and $n$ non-negative integers, $m+n>0$, and elaborate on their significance in the following cases: (i) $m=n=1$; (…
We study the minimal unitary representation (minrep) of SO(6,2) over an Hilbert space of functions of five variables, obtained by quantizing its quasiconformal realization. The minrep of SO(6,2), which coincides with the minrep of SO*(8) similarly constructed, corresponds to a massless conformal scalar field in six spacetime dimensions. There exists a family of "deformations" of the minrep of SO*(8) labeled by the spin t of an SU(2)_T subgroup of the little group SO(4) of lightlike vectors. These deformations labeled by t are positive energy unitary irreducible representations of SO*(8) that d…
Three-dimensional N = 4 supersymmetric quantum field theories admit two topological twists, the Rozansky-Witten twist and its mirror. Either twist can be used to define a supersymmetric compactification on a Riemann surface and a corre- sponding space of supersymmetric ground states. These spaces of ground states can play an interesting role in the Geometric Langlands program. We propose a description of these spaces as conformal blocks for certain non-unitary Vertex Operator Algebras and test our conjecture in some important examples. The two VOAs can be constructed respectively from a UV Lag…
We consider bosonic supersymmetric backgrounds of ten-dimensional conformal supergravity. Up to local conformal isometry, we classify the maximally supersymmetric backgrounds, determine their conformal symmetry superalgebras and show how they arise as near-horizon geometries of certain half-BPS backgrounds or as a plane-wave limit thereof. We then show how to define Yang-Mills theory with rigid supersymmetry on any supersymmetric conformal supergravity background and, in particular, on the maximally supersymmetric backgrounds. We conclude by commenting on a striking resemblance between the sup…
In this paper we apply the previously derived formalism of permutation orbifold conformal field theories to N=2 supersymmetric minimal models. By interchanging extensions and permutations of the factors we find a very interesting structure relating various conformal field theories that seems not to be known in literature. Moreover, unexpected exceptional simple currents arise in the extended permuted models, coming from off-diagonal fields. In a few situations they admit fixed points that must be resolved. We determine the complete CFT data with all fixed point resolution matrices for all simp…
Using the superconformal (SC) indices techniques, we construct Seiberg type dualities for $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric field theories outside the conformal windows. These theories are physically distinguished by the presence of chiral superfields with small or negative $R$-charges.
We describe several families of primary linear supermultiplets coupled to three-dimensional ${\cal N}=2$ conformal supergravity and use them to construct topological $BF$-type terms. We introduce conformal higher-spin gauge superfields and associate with them Chern-Simons-type actions that are constructed as an extension of the linearised action for ${\cal N}=2$ conformal supergravity. These actions possess gauge and super-Weyl invariance in any conformally flat superspace and involve a higher-spin generalisation of the linearised ${\cal N}=2$ super-Cotton tensor. For massless higher-spin supe…
A general two-dimensional fractional supersymmetric conformal field theory is investigated. The structure of the symmetries of the theory is studied. Applying the generators of the closed subalgebra generated by $(L_{-1},L_{0},G_{-1/(F+1)})$ and $(\bar{L}_{-1},\bar{L}_{0},\bar{G}_{-1/(F+1)})$, the two point functions of the component-fields of supermultiplets are calculated. Then the logarithmic superconformal field theories are investigated and the chiral and full two-point functions are obtained.
We investigate a possibility of scale invariant but non-conformal supersymmetric field theories from a perturbative approach. The explicit existence of monotonically decreasing a-function that generates beta-functions as a gradient flow provides a strong obstruction for such a possibility at two-loop order. We comment on the "discovery" of scale invariant but non-conformal renormalization group trajectories via a "change of scheme" in (4-ε) dimension proposed in literatures.
We provide the first holographic evidence for the existence of a non-supersymmetric conformal manifold arising from exactly marginal but supersymmetry-breaking deformations of a superconformal three-dimensional field theory. In particular, we construct a 2-parameter non-supersymmetric deformation of a supersymmetric AdS non-geometric background in Type IIB string theory. We prove that the non-supersymmetric backgrounds are perturbatively stable and also do not suffer from various non-perturbative instabilities. Finally, we argue that diffeomorphism symmetry protects our solutions against highe…
In this work, we study the supersymmetric warped conformal field theory in two dimensions. We show that the Hofman-Strominger theorem on symmetry enhancement could be generalized to the supersymmetric case. More precisely, we find that within a chiral superspace $(x^+,þ)$, a two-dimensional field theory with two translational invariance and a chiral scaling symmetry can have enhanced local symmetry, under the assumption that the dilation spectrum is discrete and non-negative. Similar to the pure bosonic case, there are two kinds of minimal models, one being $N=(1,0)$ supersymmetric conformal f…
In this paper a new supersymmetric extension of conformal mechanics is put forward. The beauty of this extension is that all variables have a clear geometrical meaning and the super-Hamiltonian turns out to be the Lie-derivative of the Hamiltonian flow of standard conformal mechanics. In this paper we also provide a supersymmetric extension of the other conformal generators of the theory and find their "square-roots". The whole superalgebra of these charges is then analyzed in details. We conclude the paper by showing that, using superfields, a constraint can be built which provides the exact …
We describe new non-supersymmetric conformal field theories in three and four dimensions, using the CFT/AdS correspondence. In order to believe in their existence at large N_c and strong 't Hooft coupling, we explicitly check the stability of the corresponding non-supersymmetric anti-de Sitter backgrounds. Cases of particular interest are the relevant deformations of the N=4 SCFT in SU(3) and SO(5) invariant directions. It turns out that the former is a stable, and the latter an unstable non-supersymmetric type IIB background.
A general two dimensional fractional supersymmetric conformal field theory is investigated. The structure of the symmetries of the theory is studied. Then, applying the generators of the closed subalgebra generated by $(L_{-1}, L_{0}, G_{-1/3})$ and $(\bar{L}_{-1}, \bar{L}_{0}, \bar{G}_{-1/3})$, the two point functions of the component fields of supermultiplets are calculated.
Logarithmic spin-1/3 superconformal field theories are investigated. the chiral and full two-point functions of two-(or more-) dimensional Jordanian blocks of arbitrary weights, are obtained.
Supersymmetric extensions of the 1D and 2D Swanson models are investigated by applying the conformal bridge transformation (CBT) to the first order Berry-Keating Hamiltonian multiplied by $i$ and its conformally neutral enlargements. The CBT plays the role of the Dyson map that transforms the models into supersymmetric generalizations of the 1D and 2D harmonic oscillator systems, allowing us to define pseudo-Hermitian conjugation and a suitable inner product. In the 1D case, we construct a $\mathcal{PT}$-invariant supersymmetric model with $N$ subsystems by using the conformal generators of su…
