We study numerically the phase-ordering kinetics of the two-dimensional site-diluted Ising model. The data can be interpreted in a framework motivated by renormalization-group concepts. Apart from the usual fixed point of the non-diluted system, there exist two disorder fixed points, characterized by logarithmic and power-law growth of the ordered domains. This structure gives rise to a rich scaling behavior, with an interesting crossover due to the competition between fixed points, and violation of superuniversality.
We consider the out-of-equilibrium, purely relaxational dynamics of a weakly diluted Ising model in the aging regime at criticality. We derive at first order in a $\sqrtε$ expansion the two-time response and correlation functions for vanishing momenta. The long-time limit of the critical fluctuation-dissipation ratio is computed at the same order in perturbation theory.
Self-averaging of singular thermodynamic quantities at criticality for randomly and thermally diluted three dimensional Ising systems has been studied by the Monte Carlo approach. Substantially improved self-averaging is obtained for critically clustered (critically thermally diluted) vacancy distributions in comparison with the observed self-averaging for purely random diluted distributions. Critically thermal dilution, leading to maximum relative self-averaging, corresponds to the case when the characteristic vacancy ordering temperature is made equal to the magnetic critical temperature for…
The universality class of thermally diluted Ising systems, in which the realization of the disposition of magnetic atoms and vacancies is taken from the local distribution of spins in the pure original Ising model at criticality, is investigated by finite size scaling techniques using the Monte Carlo method. We find that the critical temperature, the critical exponents and therefore the universality class of these thermally diluted Ising systems depart markedly from the ones of short range correlated disordered systems. Our results agree fairly well with theoretical predictions previously made…
The site-diluted Ising model has been investigated using an improved microcanonical algorithm from Creutz Cellular Automaton. For a microcanonical algorithm, the basic problem is to estimate the correct temperatures using average values of the kinetic energy in the simulations of site-diluted Ising model. In this study, the average kinetic energy has been re-described with an expression dependent on dilution x=1-p. The values of the temperature have been calculated using the new expression and the critical temperatures have been estimated from the peaks of specific heat for each value of dilut…
The crossover of a pure (undiluted) Ising system (spin per site probability p=1) to a diluted Ising system (spin per site probability p<0.8) is studied by means of Monte Carlo calculations with p ranging between 1 and 0.8 at intervals of 0.025. The evolution of the self averaging is analyzed by direct determination of the normalized square widths for magnetization and susceptibility as a function of p. We find a monotonous and smooth evolution from the pure to the randomly diluted universality class. The p-dependent transition is found to be independent of the size (L). This property is very c…
Magnetization processes and phase transitions in a geometrically frustrated triangular lattice Ising antiferromagnet in the presence of an external magnetic field and a random site dilution are studied by the use of an effective-field theory with correlations. We find that the interplay between the applied field and the frustration-relieving dilution results in peculiar phase diagrams in the temperature-field-dilution parameter space.
Hysteresis characteristics of the crystal field diluted general Spin-S ($S>1$) Blume-Capel model have been studied within the effective field approximation. Particular emphasis has been paid on the large negative valued crystal field and low temperature region and it has been demonstrated for this region that, rising dilution of the crystal field results in decreasing number of windowed hysteresis loops. The evolution of the multiple hysteresis loop with the dilution of the crystal field has been investigated and physical mechanism behind this evolution has been given.
Dynamic behavior of a site diluted Ising ferromagnet in the presence of periodically oscillating magnetic field has been analyzed by means of the effective field theory (EFT). Dynamic equation of motion have been solved for a honeycomb lattice ($z=3$) with the help of a Glauber type stochastic process. The global phase diagrams and the variation of the corresponding dynamic order parameter as a function of the Hamiltonian parameters and temperature has been investigated in detail and it has been shown that the system exhibits reentrant phenomena, as well as a dynamic tricritical point which di…
We comprehensively study non-equilibrium relaxation and aging processes in the two-dimensional random-site Ising model through numerical simulations. We discuss the dynamical correlation length as well as scaling functions of various two-times quantities as a function of temperature and of the degree of dilution. For already modest values of the dynamical correlation length $L$ deviations from a simple algebraic growth, $L(t) \sim t^{1/z}$, are observed. When taking this non-algebraic growth properly into account, a simple aging behavior of the autocorrelation function is found. This is in sta…
A combination of recent numerical and theoretical advances are applied to analyze the scaling behaviour of the site-diluted Ising model in two dimensions, paying special attention to the implications for multiplicative logarithmic corrections. The analysis focuses primarily on the odd sector of the model (i.e., that associated with magnetic exponents), and in particular on its Lee-Yang zeros, which are determined to high accuracy. Scaling relations are used to connect to the even (thermal) sector, and a first analysis of the density of zeros yields information on the specific heat and its corr…
The self-avoiding walk on the square site-diluted correlated percolation lattice is considered. The Ising model is employed to realize the spatial correlations of the metric space. As a well-accepted result, the (generalized) Flory's mean field relation is tested to measure the effect of correlation. After exploring a perturbative Fokker-Planck-like equation, we apply an enriched Rosenbluth Monte Carlo method to study the problem. To be more precise, the winding angel analysis is also performed from which the diffusivity parameter of Schramm-Loewner evolution (SLE) theory ($κ$) is extracted. W…
We study a geometrically frustrated triangular Ising antiferromagnet in an external magnetic field which is selectively diluted with nonmagnetic impurities employing an effective-field theory with correlations and Monte Carlo simulations. We focus on the frustration-relieving effects of such a selective dilution on the phase diagram and find that it can lead to rather intricate phase diagrams in the dilution-field parameters space. In particular, in a highly (weakly) diluted system the frustration is greatly (little) relieved and such a system is found to display only the second(first)-order p…
Monte Carlo cluster algorithms are popular for their efficiency in studying the Ising model near its critical temperature. We might expect that this efficiency extends to the bond-diluted Ising model. We show, however, that this is not always the case by comparing how the correlation times $τ_w$ and $τ_{\rm sw}$ of the Wolff and Swendsen-Wang cluster algorithms scale as a function of the system size $L$ when applied to the two-dimensional bond-diluted Ising model. We demonstrate that the Wolff algorithm suffers from a much longer correlation time than in the pure Ising model, caused by isolate…

We employ Monte Carlo simulations to study the non-equilibrium relaxation of driven Ising lattice gases in two dimensions. Whereas the temporal scaling of the density auto-correlation function in the non-equilibrium steady state does not allow a precise measurement of the critical exponents, these can be accurately determined from the aging scaling of the two-time auto-correlations and the order parameter evolution following a quench to the critical point. We obtain excellent agreement with renormalization group predictions based on the standard Langevin representation of driven Ising lattice …
We use Monte Carlo (MC) methods to simulate a two-dimensional (2D) bond-diluted Ising model on the square lattice which has frustration between the nearest-neighbor interaction J1 and the next-nearest-neighbor interaction J2. In this paper, we use the parallel tempering algorithm to study the thermodynamics for different diluted ratio x and give the phase diagram. The presence of both frustration and disorder results in a spin-glass phase, which exists between the stripe antiferromagnetic phase and the Neel phase. We present the ground-state energy of T -> 0 and the size-dependence of Edwards-…
We study the dynamics of the critical two-dimensional fully-frustrated Ising model by means of Monte Carlo simulations. The dynamical exponent is estimated at equilibrium and is shown to be compatible with the value $z_c=2$. In a second step, the system is prepared in the paramagnetic phase and then quenched at its critical temperature $T_c=0$. Numerical evidences for the existence of logarithmic corrections in the aging regime are presented. These corrections may be related to the topological defects observed in other fully-frustrated models. The autocorrelation exponent is estimated to be $λ…
We have examined the stationary state solutions of a bond diluted kinetic Ising model under a time dependent oscillating magnetic field within the effective-field theory (EFT) for a honeycomb lattice $(q=3)$. Time evolution of the system has been modeled with a formalism of master equation. The effects of the bond dilution, as well as the frequency $(ω)$ and amplitude $(h/J)$ of the external field on the dynamic phase diagrams have been discussed in detail. We have found that the system exhibits the first order phase transition with a dynamic tricritical point (DTCP) at low temperature and hig…
In models in statistical physics, the dynamics often slows down tremendously near the critical point. Usually, the correlation time $τ$ at the critical point increases with system size $L$ in power-law fashion: $τ\sim L^z$, which defines the critical dynamical exponent $z$. We show that this also holds for the 2D bond-diluted Ising model in the regime $p>p_c$, where $p$ is the parameter denoting the bond concentration, but with a dynamical critical exponent $z(p)$ which shows a strong $p$-dependence. Moreover, we show numerically that $z(p)$, as obtained from the autocorrelation of the total m…
We study diluted antiferromagnetic Ising models on triangular and kagome lattices in a magnetic field, using the replica-exchange Monte Carlo method. We observe seven and five plateaus in the magnetization curve of the diluted antiferromagnetic Ising model on the triangular and kagome lattices, respectively, when a magnetic field is applied. These observations contrast with the two plateaus observed in the pure model. The origin of multiple plateaus is investigated by considering the spin configuration of triangles in the diluted models. We compare these results with those of a diluted antifer…
This investigation employs a square lattice and Glauber dynamics methodology to probe the effects of diluteness in the crystal-field interaction in a Blume-Capel Ising system under an oscillating magnetic-field. Fourteen different phase diagrams have been observed in temperature-magnetic-field space as the concentration of the crystal-field interactions is varied. Besides, a comparison is given with the results of the pure spin-1 Ising systems.
We study the off-equilibrium critical dynamics of the three dimensional diluted Ising model. We compute the dynamical critical exponent $z$ and we show that it is independent of the dilution only when we take into account the scaling-corrections to the dynamics. Finally we will compare our results with the experimental data.
We study the site-diluted Ising model in two dimensions with Monte Carlo simulations. Using finite-size scaling techniques we compute the critical exponents observing deviations from the pure Ising ones. The differences can be explained as the effects of logarithmic corrections, without requiring to change the Universality Class.
We compare dynamic mean-field and dynamic cavity as methods to describe the stationary states of dilute kinetic Ising models. We compute dynamic mean-field theory by expanding in interaction strength to third order, and compare to the exact dynamic mean-field theory for fully asymmetric networks. We show that in diluted networks the dynamic cavity method generally predicts magnetizations of individual spins better than both first order ("naive") and second order ("TAP") dynamic mean field theory.
Aging in a two-dimensional Ising spin model with both ferromagnetic exchange and antiferromagnetic dipolar interactions is established and investigated via Monte Carlo simulations. The behaviour of the autocorrelation function $C(t,t_w)$ is analyzed for different values of the temperature, the waiting time $t_w$ and the quotient $δ=J_0/J_d$, $J_0$ and $J_d$ being the strength of exchange and dipolar interactions respectively. Different behaviours are encountered for $C(t,t_w)$ at low temperatures as $δ$ is varied. Our results show that, depending on the value of $δ$, the dynamics of this non-d…
Using the replica-symmetric mean-field theory approach the thermodynamic and retrieval properties of extremely diluted {\it symmetric} $Q$-Ising neural networks are studied. In particular, capacity-gain parameter and capacity-temperature phase diagrams are derived for $Q=3, 4$ and $Q=\infty$. The zero-temperature results are compared with those obtained from a study of the dynamics of the model. Furthermore, the de Almeida-Thouless line is determined. Where appropriate, the difference with other $Q$-Ising architectures is outlined.
We investigate by Monte Carlo simulations the critical properties of the three-dimensional bond-diluted Ising model. The phase diagram is determined by locating the maxima of the magnetic susceptibility and is compared to mean-field and effective-medium approximations. The calculation of the size-dependent effective critical exponents shows the competition between the different fixed points of the model as a function of the bond dilution.
The site-diluted transverse field Ising model in two dimensions is studied with Quantum-Monte-Carlo simulations. Its phase diagram is determined in the transverse field (Gamma) and temperature (T) plane for various (fixed) concentrations (p). The nature of the quantum Griffiths phase at zero temperature is investigated by calculating the distribution of the local zero-frequency susceptibility. It is pointed out that the nature of the Griffiths phase is different for small and large Gamma.
An effective-field theory based on the single-spin cluster has been used to study of a diluted spin-$1/2$ Ising antiferromagnet on the Kagome lattice with nearest-neighbor interactions. We observe five plateaus in the magnetization curve of the diluted antiferromagnet when a magnetic field is applied which is in agreement with Monte Carlo calculation. The effect of the site-dilution on the magnetic susceptibility is also investigated and discussed. In particular, we have found that the frustrated Kagome lattice inverse susceptibility fall to zero at $0$K.
A two-dimensional spin-1/2 trilayer magnetic system with quenched non-magnetic impurity is studied. The lattice is formed by alternate layers of two different theoretical atoms A and B arranged in a particular fashion A-B-A. The compensation point appears below the critical temperature, for which total magnetization of the system becomes zero even though the sublattice magnetization has a nonzero value. For a range of values of the relative interaction strength in the Hamiltonian, a compensation point is observed. We considered the Ising mechanics and employed the Monte Carlo method to determi…
We propose a new numerical method to determine the central charge of the conformal field theory models corresponding to the 2D lattice models. In this method, the free energy of the lattice model on the torus is calculated by the Wang-Landau algorithm and then the central charge is obtained from a free energy scaling with respect to the torus radii. The method is applied for determination of the central charge in the site-diluted Ising model.
We consider the two-dimensional randomly site diluted Ising model and the random-bond +-J Ising model (also called Edwards-Anderson model), and study their critical behavior at the paramagnetic-ferromagnetic transition. The critical behavior of thermodynamic quantities can be derived from a set of renormalization-group equations, in which disorder is a marginally irrelevant perturbation at the two-dimensional Ising fixed point. We discuss their solutions, focusing in particular on the universality of the logarithmic corrections arising from the presence of disorder. Then, we present a finite-s…
We discuss how a spin system, which is subject to quenched disorder, might exhibit multicritical behaviors at criticality if the distribution of the impurities is arbitrary. In order to provide realistic candidates for such multicritical behaviors, we discuss several generalizations of the standard randomly diluted Ising's universality class adopting the $ε$-expansion close to several upper critical dimensions. In the presentation, we spend a special effort in bridging between CFT and RG results and discuss in detail the computation of quantities, which are of prominent interest in the case of…
We study the purely relaxational dynamics (model A) at criticality in three-dimensional disordered Ising systems whose static critical behaviour belongs to the randomly diluted Ising universality class. We consider the site-diluted and bond-diluted Ising models, and the +- J Ising model along the paramagnetic-ferromagnetic transition line. We perform Monte Carlo simulations at the critical point using the Metropolis algorithm and study the dynamic behaviour in equilibrium at various values of the disorder parameter. The results provide a robust evidence of the existence of a unique model-A dyn…
Monte Carlo simulations of the short-time dynamic behavior are reported for three-dimensional weakly site-diluted Ising model with spin concentrations $p=0.95$ and 0.8 at criticality. In contrast to studies of the critical behavior of the pure systems by the short-time dynamics method, our investigations of site-diluted Ising model have revealed three stages of the dynamic evolution characterizing a crossover phenomenon from the critical behavior typical for the pure systems to behavior determined by the influence of disorder. The static and dynamic critical exponents are determined with the u…
Glauber dynamics of a bond-diluted Ising model on a Bethe lattice (a random graph with fixed connectivity) is investigated by an approximate theory which provides exact results for equilibrium properties. The time-dependent solutions of the dynamical system derived by this method are in good agreement with the results obtained by Monte Carlo simulations in almost all situations. Furthermore, the derived dynamical system exhibits a remarkable phenomenon that the magnetization shows multi-step relaxations at intermediate time scales in a low-temperature part of the Griffiths phase without bond p…
In order to study the influence of quenched disorder on second-order phase transitions, high-temperature series expansions of the \sus and the free energy are obtained for the quenched bond-diluted Ising model in $d = 3$--5 dimensions. They are analysed using different extrapolation methods tailored to the expected singularity behaviours. In $d = 4$ and 5 dimensions we confirm that the critical behaviour is governed by the pure fixed point up to dilutions near the geometric bond percolation threshold. The existence and form of logarithmic corrections for the pure Ising model in $d = 4$ is conf…
We study the phase diagram of the site-diluted Ising model in a wide dilution range, through Monte Carlo simulations and Finite-Size Scaling techniques. Our results for the critical exponents and universal cumulants turn out to be dilution-independent, but only after a proper infinite volume extrapolation, taking into account the leading corrections-to-scaling terms.
We study link-diluted $\pm J$ Ising spin glass models on the hierarchical lattice and on a three-dimensional lattice close to the percolation threshold. We show that previously computed zero temperature fixed points are unstable with respect to temperature perturbations and do not belong to any critical line in the dilution-temperature plane. We discuss implications of the presence of such spurious unstable fixed points on the use of optimization algorithms, and we show how entropic effects should be taken into account to obtain the right physical behavior and critical points.
We study critical hysteresis in the random-field Ising model (RFIM) on a two-dimensional periodic lattice with a variable coordination number $z_{eff}$ in the range $3 \le z_{eff} \le 6$. We find that the model supports critical behavior in the range $4 < z_{eff} \le 6$, but the critical exponents are independent of $z_{eff}$. The result is discussed in the context of the universality of nonequilibrium critical phenomena and extant results in the field.
Using the newly proposed probability-changing cluster (PCC) Monte Carlo algorithm, we simulate the two-dimensional (2D) site-diluted Ising model. Since we can tune the critical point of each random sample automatically with the PCC algorithm, we succeed in studying the sample-dependent $T_c(L)$ and the sample average of physical quantities at each $T_c(L)$ systematically. Using the finite-size scaling (FSS) analysis for $T_c(L)$, we discuss the importance of corrections to FSS both in the strong-dilution and weak-dilution regions. The critical phenomena of the 2D site-diluted Ising model are s…
Surface aging phenomena are discussed for semi-infinite systems prepared in a fully disordered initial state and then quenched to or below the critical point. Besides solving exactly the semi-infinite Ising model in the limit of large dimensions, we also present results of an extensive numerical study of the nonequilibrium dynamical behavior of the two-dimensional semi-infinite Ising model undergoing coarsening. The studied models reveal a simple aging behavior where some of the nonequilibrium surface exponents take on values that differ from their bulk counterparts. For the two-dimensional se…
Some results on the two-point function and on the analytic structure of the momenta of the effective fugacity at the origin for a class of diluted ferromagnetic Ising models on the Cayley tree are presented.
The current understanding of aging phenomena is mainly confined to the study of systems with short-ranged interactions. Little is known about the aging of long-ranged systems. Here, the aging in the phase-ordering kinetics of the two-dimensional Ising model with power-law long-range interactions is studied via Monte Carlo simulations. The dynamical scaling of the two-time spin-spin autocorrelator is well described by simple aging for all interaction ranges studied. The autocorrelation exponents are consistent with $λ=1.25$ in the effectively short-range regime, while for stronger long-range in…
We consider the Ising model for two interacting groups of spins embedded in an Erdös-Rényi random graph. The critical properties of the system are investigated by means of extensive Monte Carlo simulations. Our results evidence the existence of a phase transition at a value of the inter-groups interaction coupling $J_{12}^C$ which depends algebraically on the dilution of the graph and on the relative width of the two populations, as explained by means of scaling arguments. We also measure the critical exponents, which are consistent with those of the Curie-Weiss model, hence suggesting a wide …
We discuss analytical approximation schemes for the dynamics of diluted spin models. The original dynamics of the complete set of degrees of freedom is replaced by a hierarchy of equations including an increasing number of global observables, which can be closed approximately at different levels of the hierarchy. We illustrate this method on the simple example of the Ising ferromagnet on a Bethe lattice, investigating the first three possible closures, which are all exact in the long time limit, and which yield more and more accurate predictions for the finite-time behavior. We also investigat…
Activated scaling is confirmed to hold in transverse field induced phase transitions of randomly diluted Ising systems. Quantum Monte Carlo calculations have been made not just at the percolation threshold but well bellow and above it including the Griffiths-McCoy phase. A novel deactivation phenomena in the Griffiths-McCoy phase is observed using a thermal (in contrast to random) dilution of the system.
We consider the three-dimensional randomly diluted Ising model and study the critical behavior of the static and dynamic spin-spin correlation functions (static and dynamic structure factors) at the paramagnetic-ferromagnetic transition in the high-temperature phase. We consider a purely relaxational dynamics without conservation laws, the so-called model A. We present Monte Carlo simulations and perturbative field-theoretical calculations. While the critical behavior of the static structure factor is quite similar to that occurring in pure Ising systems, the dynamic structure factor shows a s…
In the literature, there are five distinct, fragmented sets of analytic predictions for the scaling behaviour at the phase transition in the random-site Ising model in four dimensions. Here, the scaling relations for logarithmic corrections are used to complete the scaling pictures for each set. A numerical approach is then used to confirm the leading scaling picture coming from these predictions and to discriminate between them at the level of logarithmic corrections.
We studied the nonequilibrium aging behavior of the Random Field Ising Model in three dimensions for various values of the disorder strength. This allowed us to investigate how the aging behavior changes across the ferromagnetic-paramagnetic phase transition. We investigated a large system size of $N=256^3$ spins and up to $10^8$ Monte Carlo sweeps. To reach these necessary long simulation times we employed an implementation running on Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors, reaching single spin flip times as short as 6 ps. We measured typical correlation functions in space and time to extract a growing …
By tempered Monte Carlo simulations, we study 2D site-diluted dipolar Ising systems. Dipoles are randomly placed on a fraction x of all L^2 sites in a square lattice, and point along a common crystalline axis. For x_c< x<=1, where x_c = 0.79(5), we find an antiferromagnetic phase below a temperature which vanishes as x approaches x_c from above. At lower values of x, we study (i) distributions of the spin--glass (SG) overlap q, (ii) their relative mean square deviation Delta_q^2 and kurtosis and (iii) xi_L/L, where xi_L is a SG correlation length. From their variation with temperature and syst…
We employ an effective-field theory with correlations in order to study the phase diagram and ground-state magnetizations of a selectively diluted Ising antiferromagnet on triangular and honeycomb lattices. Dilution of different sublattices with generally unequal probabilities results in a rather intricate phase diagram in the sublattice dilution parameters space. In the case of the frustrated triangular lattice antiferromagnet the selective dilution affects the degree of frustration which can lead to some peculiar phenomena, such as reentrant behavior of long-range order or unsaturated sublat…
We show that the dynamical behavior of the 3D Ising spin glass with Gaussian couplings is not compatible with a droplet dynamics. We show that this is implied from the data of reference cond-mat/9904143, that, when analyzed in an accurate way, give multiple evidences of this fact. Our study is based on the analysis of the overlap-overlap correlation function, at different values of the separation r and of the time t.
