We employ an effective-field theory with correlations in order to study the phase diagram and ground-state magnetizations of a selectively diluted Ising antiferromagnet on triangular and honeycomb lattices. Dilution of different sublattices with generally unequal probabilities results in a rather intricate phase diagram in the sublattice dilution parameters space. In the case of the frustrated triangular lattice antiferromagnet the selective dilution affects the degree of frustration which can lead to some peculiar phenomena, such as reentrant behavior of long-range order or unsaturated sublattice magnetizations at zero temperature. The selectively diluted Ising antiferromagnet on the honeycomb lattice is obtained as a special case when one sublattice of the triangular lattice is completely removed by dilution.
We discuss the effect of site dilution on both the magnetization and the density of states of quantum spins in the honeycomb lattice, described by the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg spin-S model. For this purpose a real-space Bogoliubov-Valatin transformation is used. In this work we show that for the S>1/2 the system can be analyzed in terms of linear spin wave theory. For spin S=1/2, however, the linear spin wave approximation breaks down. In this case, we have studied the effect of dilution on the staggered magnetization using the Stochastic Series Expansion Monte Carlo method. Two main resul…
Magnetization processes and phase transitions in a geometrically frustrated triangular lattice Ising antiferromagnet in the presence of an external magnetic field and a random site dilution are studied by the use of an effective-field theory with correlations. We find that the interplay between the applied field and the frustration-relieving dilution results in peculiar phase diagrams in the temperature-field-dilution parameter space.
An antiferromagnetic version of the well-known majority voter model on square and honeycomb lattices is proposed. Monte Carlo simulations give evidence for a continuous order-disorder phase transition in the stationary state in both cases. Precise estimates of the critical point are found from the combination of three cumulants, and our results are in good agreement with the reported values of the equivalent ferromagnetic systems. The critical exponents $1/ν$, $γ/ν$ and $β/ν$ were found. Their values indicate that the stationary state of the antiferromagnetic majority voter model belongs to th…
We study a geometrically frustrated triangular Ising antiferromagnet in an external magnetic field which is selectively diluted with nonmagnetic impurities employing an effective-field theory with correlations and Monte Carlo simulations. We focus on the frustration-relieving effects of such a selective dilution on the phase diagram and find that it can lead to rather intricate phase diagrams in the dilution-field parameters space. In particular, in a highly (weakly) diluted system the frustration is greatly (little) relieved and such a system is found to display only the second(first)-order p…
We use numerical transfer-matrix methods, together with finite-size scaling and conformal invariance concepts, to discuss critical properties of two-dimensional honeycomb-lattice Ising spin-1/2 magnets, with couplings which are antiferromagnetic along at least one lattice axis, in a uniform external field. We focus mainly on the shape of the phase diagram in field-temperature parameter space; in order to do so, both the order and universality class of the underlying phase transition are examined. Our results indicate that, in one particular case studied, the critical line has a horizontal sect…
We use the effective-field theory with correlations based on different cluster sizes to investigate phase diagrams of the frustrated Ising antiferromagnet on the honeycomb lattice with isotropic interactions of the strength $J_1 < 0$ between nearest-neighbour pairs and $J_2 < 0$ between next-nearest neighbour pairs of spins. We present results for the ground-state energy as a function of the frustration parameter $R = J_2 /|J_1|$. We find that the cluster-size has a considerable effect on the existence and location of a tricritical point in the phase diagram at which the phase transition chang…
We present an analytical and numerical study of the Ising model on a bilayer honeycomb lattice including interlayer frustration and coupling with an external magnetic field. First, we discuss the exact $T=0$ phase diagram, where we find finite entropy phases for different magnetisations. Then, we study the magnetic properties of the system at finite temperature using complementary analytical techniques (Bethe lattice), and two types of Monte-Carlo algorithms (Metropolis and Wang-Landau). We characterize the phase transitions and discuss the phase diagrams. The system presents a rich phenomenol…
The Pair Approximation method is modified in order to describe the systems with geometrical frustration. The Ising antiferromagnet on triangular lattice with selective dilution (Kaya-Berker model) is considered and a self-consistent thermodynamic description of this model is obtained. For this purpose, the Gibbs free-energy as a function of temperature, concentration of magnetic atoms on the selected sublattice, and external magnetic field is derived. In particular, the phase diagram is constructed and a comparison of different methods is presented. The thermodynamic quantities are discussed i…
The honeycomb-lattice Ising antiferromagnet subjected to the imaginary magnetic field $H=iθT /2$ with the "topological" angle $θ$ and temperature $T$ was investigated numerically. In order to treat such a complex-valued statistical weight, we employed the transfer-matrix method. As a probe to detect the order-disorder phase transition, we resort to an extended version of the fidelity $F$, which makes sense even for such a non-hermitian transfer matrix. As a preliminary survey, for an intermediate value of $θ$, we investigated the phase transition via the fidelity susceptibility $χ_F^{(θ)}$. Th…
We study the nature of a low-temperature phase in the frustrated honeycomb-lattice Ising model with first- and second-neighbor antiferromagnetic (AF) interactions, $J_1$ and $J_2$, respectively, for $R = J_2/J_1 > 1/4$. It is known that for $R < 1/4$ there is a phase transition at low temperatures to the AF phase. Nevertheless, little is known about the critical behavior of the model for $R > 1/4$, except for recent effective field results which detected no phase transition down to zero temperature. Our Monte Carlo results suggest that for $R > 1/4$ there is at least one peculiar phase transit…
In the paper the Curie temperatures of selectively diluted planar Ising ferromagnet on the triangular lattice are calculated vs. concentration of magnetic atoms. Various analytical approaches are compared with the exact numerical calculations for finite clusters, as well as with the exact analytical solutions for the triangular and honeycomb lattices.
The real-space RG approach is applied to study critical temperatures of system consisting of interacting spin chains of spin S=1 with an inner antiferromagnetic exchange which form a honeycomb crystal lattice. Using anisotropic Heisenberg model we calculate critical temperature as a function of anisotropic parameter and the ratio of interchain and intrachain interactions. A comparison our results with those obtained from RGRS calculations for the same model of spin-1/2 on a square lattice is given.
The ferromagnetic phase of an Ising model in d=3, with any amount of quenched antiferromagnetic bond randomness, is shown to undergo a transition to a spin-glass phase under sufficient quenched bond dilution. This general result, demonstrated here with the numerically exact renormalization-group solution of a d=3 hierarchical lattice, is expected to hold true generally, for the cubic lattice and for quenched site dilution. Conversely, in the ferromagnetic-spinglass-antiferromagnetic phase diagram, the spin-glass phase expands under quenched dilution at the expense of the ferromagnetic and anti…
We consider the spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on a bilayer honeycomb lattice including interlayer frustration in the presence of an external magnetic field. In the vicinity of the saturation field, we map the low-energy states of this quantum system onto the spatial configurations of hard hexagons on a honeycomb lattice. As a result, we can construct effective classical models (lattice-gas as well as Ising models) on the honeycomb lattice to calculate the properties of the frustrated quantum Heisenberg spin system in the low-temperature regime. We perform classical Monte Carlo si…
We discuss the ground state of the spin-orbital model for spin-one ions with partially filled $t_{2g}$ levels on a honeycomb lattice. We find that the orbital degrees of freedom induce a spontaneous dimerization of spins and drive them into nonmagnetic manifold spanned by hard-core dimer (spin-singlet) coverings of the lattice. The cooperative ``dimer Jahn-Teller'' effect is introduced through a magnetoelastic coupling and is shown to lift the orientational degeneracy of dimers leading to a peculiar valence bond crystal pattern. The present theory provides a theoretical explanation of nonmagne…
Frustration-driven topological textures on the honeycomb lattice: antiferromagnetic meron-antimeron and skyrmion crystals emerging from spiral spin liquids
We investigate the magnetic susceptibility of the classical Heisenberg antiferromagnet with nearest-neighbour interactions on the geometrically frustrated pyrochlore lattice, for a pure system and in the presence of dilution with nonmagnetic ions. Using the fact that the correlation length in this system for small dilution is always short, we obtain an approximate but accurate expression for the magnetic susceptibility at all temperatures. We extend this theory to the compound SrCr_{9-9x}Ga_{3+9x}O_{19} (SCGO) and provide an explanation of the phenomenological model recently proposed by Schiff…
The two-dimensional antiferromagnetic S=1/2 Heisenberg model with random site dilution is studied using quantum Monte Carlo simulations. Ground state properties of the largest connected cluster on L*L lattices, with L up to 64, are calculated at the classical percolation threshold. In addition, clusters with a fixed number Nc of spins on an infinite lattice at the percolation density are studied for Nc up to 1024. The disorder averaged sublattice magnetization per spin extrapolates to the same non-zero infinite-size value for both types of clusters. Hence, the percolating clusters, which are f…
