In models in statistical physics, the dynamics often slows down tremendously near the critical point. Usually, the correlation time $τ$ at the critical point increases with system size $L$ in power-law fashion: $τ\sim L^z$, which defines the critical dynamical exponent $z$. We show that this also holds for the 2D bond-diluted Ising model in the regime $p>p_c$, where $p$ is the parameter denoting the bond concentration, but with a dynamical critical exponent $z(p)$ which shows a strong $p$-dependence. Moreover, we show numerically that $z(p)$, as obtained from the autocorrelation of the total magnetisation, diverges when the percolation threshold $p_c=1/2$ is approached: $z(p)-z(1) \sim (p-p_c)^{-2}$. We refer to this observed extremely fast increase of the correlation time with size as {\it super slowing down}. Independent measurement data from the mean-square deviation of the total magnetisation, which exhibits anomalous diffusion at the critical point, supports this result.
Theoretycal results on the magnetization and susceptibility of a Heisenberg diluted antiferromagnet in the square lattice are given. The models considered have two exchange constants (J1-J2 and J1-J3) of which the second is much smaller than the first (lopsided models). Cluster statistics for clusters with up to 5 spins is given. A procedure to account for the contribution to the magnetization of clusters with more than 5 spins is described.
Effects of the bond dilution on the critical temperatures, phase diagrams and the magnetization behaviors of the isotropic and anisotropic quantum Heisenberg model have been investigated in detail. For the isotropic case, bond percolation threshold values have been determined for several numbers of two (2D) and three (3D) dimensional lattices. In order to investigate the effect of the anisotropy in the exchange interaction on the results obtained for the isotropic model, a detailed investigation has been made on a honeycomb lattice. Some interesting results, such as second order reentrant phen…
We have examined the stationary state solutions of a bond diluted kinetic Ising model under a time dependent oscillating magnetic field within the effective-field theory (EFT) for a honeycomb lattice $(q=3)$. Time evolution of the system has been modeled with a formalism of master equation. The effects of the bond dilution, as well as the frequency $(ω)$ and amplitude $(h/J)$ of the external field on the dynamic phase diagrams have been discussed in detail. We have found that the system exhibits the first order phase transition with a dynamic tricritical point (DTCP) at low temperature and hig…
We use Monte Carlo (MC) methods to simulate a two-dimensional (2D) bond-diluted Ising model on the square lattice which has frustration between the nearest-neighbor interaction J1 and the next-nearest-neighbor interaction J2. In this paper, we use the parallel tempering algorithm to study the thermodynamics for different diluted ratio x and give the phase diagram. The presence of both frustration and disorder results in a spin-glass phase, which exists between the stripe antiferromagnetic phase and the Neel phase. We present the ground-state energy of T -> 0 and the size-dependence of Edwards-…
Monte Carlo cluster algorithms are popular for their efficiency in studying the Ising model near its critical temperature. We might expect that this efficiency extends to the bond-diluted Ising model. We show, however, that this is not always the case by comparing how the correlation times $τ_w$ and $τ_{\rm sw}$ of the Wolff and Swendsen-Wang cluster algorithms scale as a function of the system size $L$ when applied to the two-dimensional bond-diluted Ising model. We demonstrate that the Wolff algorithm suffers from a much longer correlation time than in the pure Ising model, caused by isolate…
We investigate by Monte Carlo simulations the critical properties of the three-dimensional bond-diluted Ising model. The phase diagram is determined by locating the maxima of the magnetic susceptibility and is compared to mean-field and effective-medium approximations. The calculation of the size-dependent effective critical exponents shows the competition between the different fixed points of the model as a function of the bond dilution.
We collect together results for bond percolation on various lattices from two to fourteen dimensions which, in the limit of large dimension $d$ or number of neighbors $z$, smoothly approach a randomly diluted Erdős-Rényi graph. We include new results on bond diluted hyper-sphere packs in up to nine dimensions, which show the mean coordination, excess kurtosis and skewness evolving smoothly with dimension towards the Erdős-Rényi limit.
Glauber dynamics of a bond-diluted Ising model on a Bethe lattice (a random graph with fixed connectivity) is investigated by an approximate theory which provides exact results for equilibrium properties. The time-dependent solutions of the dynamical system derived by this method are in good agreement with the results obtained by Monte Carlo simulations in almost all situations. Furthermore, the derived dynamical system exhibits a remarkable phenomenon that the magnetization shows multi-step relaxations at intermediate time scales in a low-temperature part of the Griffiths phase without bond p…
In order to study the influence of quenched disorder on second-order phase transitions, high-temperature series expansions of the \sus and the free energy are obtained for the quenched bond-diluted Ising model in $d = 3$--5 dimensions. They are analysed using different extrapolation methods tailored to the expected singularity behaviours. In $d = 4$ and 5 dimensions we confirm that the critical behaviour is governed by the pure fixed point up to dilutions near the geometric bond percolation threshold. The existence and form of logarithmic corrections for the pure Ising model in $d = 4$ is conf…
We consider the two-dimensional randomly site diluted Ising model and the random-bond +-J Ising model (also called Edwards-Anderson model), and study their critical behavior at the paramagnetic-ferromagnetic transition. The critical behavior of thermodynamic quantities can be derived from a set of renormalization-group equations, in which disorder is a marginally irrelevant perturbation at the two-dimensional Ising fixed point. We discuss their solutions, focusing in particular on the universality of the logarithmic corrections arising from the presence of disorder. Then, we present a finite-s…
Large-scale Monte Carlo simulations of the bond-diluted three-dimensional 4-state Potts model are performed. The phase diagram and the physical properties at the phase transitions are studied using finite-size scaling techniques. Evidences are given for the existence of a tricritical point dividing the phase diagram into a regime where the transitions remain of first order and a second regime where the transitions are softened to continuous ones by the influence of disorder. In the former regime, the nature of the transition is essentially clarified through an analysis of the energy probabilit…
We revisited, by means of numerical simulations, the one dimensional bond diluted Levy Ising spin glasses outside the limit of validity of mean field theories. In these models the probability that two spins at distance $r$ interact (via a disordered interactions, $J_{ij}=\pm 1$) decays as $r^{-ρ}$. We have estimated, using finite size scaling techniques, the infinite volume correlation length and spin glass susceptibility for $ρ=5/3$ and $ρ=9/5$. We have obtained strong evidence for divergences of the previous observables at a non zero critical temperature. We discuss the behavior of the criti…
We have calculated analytically the mean value and the variance of the number of bonds on the lattices of dimension $d$ for the given occupation of sites. We consider both kinds of site occupation: with the fixed concentration $n_s$ of occupied sites and with the probability $p$ for a site to be occupied. We found that the variance are smaller in the former case and not depends from the dimensionality of the hypercubic lattice. Whereas in the last case it grows with the space dimensionality. The ratio of variances are quite different in the limit of $p\to 1$. Finally, we demonstrate the releva…
We derive high-temperature series expansions for the free energy and the susceptibility of random-bond $q$-state Potts models on hypercubic lattices using a star-graph expansion technique. This method enables the exact calculation of quenched disorder averages for arbitrary uncorrelated coupling distributions. Moreover, we can keep the disorder strength $p$ as well as the dimension $d$ as symbolic parameters. By applying several series analysis techniques to the new series expansions, one can scan large regions of the $(p,d)$ parameter space for any value of $q$. For the bond-diluted 4-state P…
Frequency evolutions of hysteresis loop area and hysteresis tools such as remanence and coercivity of a kinetic Ising model in the presence of quenched bond dilution are investigated in detail. The kinetic equation describing the time dependence of the magnetization is derived by means of effective-field theory with single-site correlations. It is found that the frequency dispersions of hysteresis loop area, remanence and coercivity strongly depend on the quenched bond randomness, as well as applied field amplitude and oscillation frequency. In addition, the shape of the hysteresis curves for …
In this report we give an overview on recent results obtained from extensive Monte Carlo (MC) computer simulations of the 3D 2-state (Ising) and 4-state Potts models with bond-dilution. The motivation to study the 4-state Potts model derives from the fact that, in the pure case, this model is known to exhibit a fairly strong first-order transition, such that a disorder-induced softening to a second-order transition would give clear support of the theoretical expectations. Modeling the disorder by bond-dilution enables in the Ising case a test of the expected universality with respect to the ty…
Recently, a method has been proposed to obtain accurate predictions for low-temperature properties of lattice spin glasses that is practical even above the upper critical dimension, $d_c=6$. This method is based on the observation that bond-dilution enables the numerical treatment of larger lattices, and that the subsequent combination of such data at various bond densities into a finite-size scaling Ansatz produces more robust scaling behavior. In the present study we test the potential of such a procedure, in particular, to obtain the stiffness exponent for the hierarchical Migdal-Kadanoff l…
A spin-glass transition occurs both in and out of the limit of validity of mean-field theory on a diluted one dimensional chain of Ising spins where exchange bonds occur with a probability decaying as the inverse power of the distance. Varying the power in this long-range model corresponds, in a one-to-one relationship, to change the dimension in spin-glass short-range models. Using different finite size scaling methods evidence for a spin-glass transition is found also for systems whose equivalent dimension is below the upper critical dimension at zero magnetic field. The application of a new…
We study numerically the coarsening kinetics of a two-dimensional ferromagnetic system with aleatory bond dilution. We show that interfaces between domains of opposite magnetisation are fractal on every lengthscale, but with different properties at short or long distances. Specifically, on lengthscales larger than the typical domains' size the topology is that of critical random percolation, similarly to what observed in clean systems or models with different kinds of quenched disorder. On smaller lengthscales a dilution dependent fractal dimension emerges. The Hausdorff dimension increases wi…
A theory which uses data of the static pair-correlation function is developed to calculate quantities associated with the viscous slowing down of supercooled liquids. We calculate value of the energy fluctuations that determine the number of stable bonds a particle forms with neighbors from data of the structural relaxation time. The number of bonds and the activation energy for relaxation are shown to increase sharply in a narrow temperature range close to the glass temperature. The configurational entropy calculated from values of the configurational fluctuations is found in good agreement w…
We study a contact process on a two-dimensional square lattice which is diluted by randomly removing bonds with probability p. For p<1/2 and varying birth rate $λ$ the model was shown to exhibit a continuous phase transition which belongs to the universality class of strongly disordered directed percolation. The phase transition line terminates in a multicritical point at p=1/2 and $λ=λ*=3.55(1)$, where the model can be interpreted as a critical directed percolation process running on a critical isotropic percolation cluster. In the present work we study the multicritical point and its neighbo…
We study the critical behavior of the $d=3$ Ising model with bond randomness through extensive Monte Carlo simulations and finite-size scaling techniques. Our results indicate that the critical behavior of the random-bond model is governed by the same universality class as the site- and bond-diluted models, clearly distinct from that of the pure model, thus providing a complete set of universality in disordered systems.
We propose that the salient feature to be explained about the glass transition of supercooled liquids is the temperature-controlled superArrhenius activated nature of the viscous slowing down, more strikingly seen in weakly-bonded, fragile systems. In the light of this observation, the relevance of simple models of spherically interacting particles and that of models based on free-volume congested dynamics are questioned. Finally, we discuss how the main aspects of the phenomenology of supercooled liquids, including the crossover from Arrhenius to superArrhenius activated behavior and the hete…
We extend the Wolff algorithm to include correlated spin interactions in diluted magnetic systems. This algorithm is applied to study the site-bond-correlated Ising model on a two dimensional square lattice. We use a finite size scaling procedure to obtain the phase diagram in the temperature-concentration (Tc,C) space. We also have verified that the autocorrelation time diminishes in the presence of dilution and correlation, showing that the Wolff algorithm performs even better in such situations.
The three-dimensional quenched random bond diluted $(J_1-J_2)$ quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnet is studied on a simple-cubic lattice. Using extensive stochastic series expansion quantum Monte Carlo simulations, we perform very long runs for $L \times L \times L$ lattice up to $L=48$. By employing standard finite-size scaling method, the numerical values of the Néel temperature are determined with high precision as a function of the coupling ratio $r=J_2/J_1$. Based on the estimated critical exponents, we find that the critical behavior of the considered model belongs to the pure classical $3…
We study random networks of nonlinear resistors, which obey a generalized Ohm's law, $V\sim I^r$. Our renormalized field theory, which thrives on an interpretation of the involved Feynman Diagrams as being resistor networks themselves, is presented in detail. By considering distinct values of the nonlinearity r, we calculate several fractal dimensions characterizing percolation clusters. For the dimension associated with the red bonds we show that $d_{\scriptsize red} = 1/ν$ at least to order ${\sl O} (ε^4)$, with $ν$ being the correlation length exponent, and $ε= 6-d$, where d denotes the spa…
We study the purely relaxational dynamics (model A) at criticality in three-dimensional disordered Ising systems whose static critical behaviour belongs to the randomly diluted Ising universality class. We consider the site-diluted and bond-diluted Ising models, and the +- J Ising model along the paramagnetic-ferromagnetic transition line. We perform Monte Carlo simulations at the critical point using the Metropolis algorithm and study the dynamic behaviour in equilibrium at various values of the disorder parameter. The results provide a robust evidence of the existence of a unique model-A dyn…
The recently proposed reduction method is applied to the Edwards-Anderson model on bond-diluted square lattices. This allows, in combination with a graph-theoretical matching algorithm, to calculate numerically exact ground states of large systems. Low-temperature domain-wall excitations are studied to determine the stiffness exponent y_2. A value of y_2=-0.281(3) is found, consistent with previous results obtained on undiluted lattices. This comparison demonstrates the validity of the reduction method for bond-diluted spin systems and provides strong support for similar studies proclaiming ac…
We investigate a possible relation between frustration and phase-transition points in spin glasses. The relation is represented as a condition of the number of frustrated plaquettes in the lattice at phase-transition points at zero temperature and was reported to provide very close points to the phase-transition points for several lattices. Although there has been no proof of the relation, the good correspondence in several lattices suggests the validity of the relation and some important role of frustration in the phase transitions. To examine the relation further, we present a natural extens…
In this research, the tax evasion percentage, as order parameter, of a system of individuals or agents inscribed in a $N = L \times L$ 2D square grid is computed. The influence of local environment over each agent is quantified both through competitive exchange integrals (ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic bonds) and dangling bonds randomly distributed, which allows to identify the system with disordered ternary alloys of the type $\mathrm{A_\textit{p}B_\textit{x}C_\textit{q}}$ with a certain stoichiometry $(p,x,q)$ particular of each society. Our proposal is based on the so-called spin glass…
We have defined a new type of clustering scheme preserving the connectivity of the nodes in network ignored by the conventional Migdal-Kadanoff bond moving process. Our new clustering scheme performs much better for correlation length and dynamical critical exponents in high dimensions, where the conventional Migdal-Kadanoff bond moving scheme breaks down. In two and three dimensions we find the dynamical critical exponents for the kinetic Ising Model to be z=2.13 and z=2.09, respectively at pure Ising fixed point. These values are in very good agreement with recent Monte Carlo results. We inv…
Muon spin relaxation ($μ$SR) and magnetic susceptibility measurements have been performed on the pure and diluted spin 1/2 kagomé system (Cu$_x$Zn$_{1-x}$)$_{3}$V$_{2}$O$_7$(OH)$_{2}$ 2H$_2$O. In the pure $x=1$ system we found a slowing down of Cu spin fluctuations with decreasing temperature towards $T \sim 1$ K, followed by slow and nearly temperature-independent spin fluctuations persisting down to $T$ = 50 mK, indicative of quantum fluctuations. No indication of static spin freezing was detected in either of the pure ($x$=1.0) or diluted samples. The observed magnitude of fluctuating field…
Exact analytic calculations in spin-1/2 XY chains, show the presence of long-time tails in the asymptotic dynamics of spatially inhomogeneous excitations. The decay of inhomogeneities, for $t\to \infty $, is given in the form of a power law \[ (t/τ_{Q}) ^{-ν_{Q}} \] where the relaxation time $τ_{Q}$ and the exponent $ν_{Q}$ depend on the wave vector $Q$, characterizing the spatial modulation of the initial excitation. We consider several variants of the XY model (dimerized, with staggered magnetic field, with bond alternation, and with isotropic and uniform interactions), that are grouped into…
We theoretically study thermally activated elementary dynamical processes that precede full structural relaxation in ultra-dense particle liquids interacting via strong short range attractive forces. Our approach is based on a microscopic theory formulated at the particle trajectory level built on the dynamic free energy concept and an explicit treatment of how attractions control physical bonding. Mean time scales for bond breaking, the early stage of cage escape, and a fixed non-Fickian displacement are analyzed in the repulsive glass, bonded repulsive (attractive) glass, fluid, and dense ge…
The stiffness exponents in the glass phase for lattice spin glasses in dimensions $d=3,...,6$ are determined. To this end, we consider bond-diluted lattices near the T=0 glass transition point $p^*$. This transition for discrete bond distributions occurs just above the bond percolation point $p_c$ in each dimension. Numerics suggests that both points, $p_c$ and $p^*$, seem to share the same $1/d$-expansion, at least for several leading orders, each starting with $1/(2d)$. Hence, these lattice graphs have average connectivities of $α=2dp\gtrsim1$ near $p^*$ and exact graph-reduction methods bec…
We construct a three-dimensional lattice model for biological gels in which straight lines of bonds correspond to filamentous semi-flexible polymers and lattice sites, which are exactly four-fold coordinated, to crosslinks. With only stretching central forces between nearest neighbors, this lattice is sub-isostatic with an extensive number of zero modes; but all of its elastic constants are nonzero, and its elastic response is affine. Removal of bonds with probability $1-p$ leads to a lattice with average coordination number less than four and a distribution of polymer lengths. When bending fo…
In three-dimensional critical percolation we study numerically the number of clusters, $N_Γ$, which intersect a given subset of bonds, $Γ$. If $Γ$ represents the interface between a subsystem and the environment, then $N_Γ$ is related to the entanglement entropy of the critical diluted quantum Ising model. Due to corners in $Γ$ there are singular corrections to $N_Γ$, which scale as $b_Γ \ln L_Γ$, $L_Γ$ being the linear size of $Γ$ and the prefactor, $b_Γ$, is found to be universal. This result indicates that logarithmic finite-size corrections exist in the free-energy of three-dimensional cri…
We perform high-statistics Monte Carlo simulations of three three-dimensional Ising spin-glass models: the +-J Ising model for two values of the disorder parameter p, p=1/2 and p=0.7, and the bond-diluted +-J model for bond-occupation probability p_b = 0.45. A finite-size scaling analysis of the quartic cumulants at the critical point shows conclusively that these models belong to the same universality class and allows us to estimate the scaling-correction exponent omega related to the leading irrelevant operator, omega=1.0(1). We also determine the critical exponents nu and eta. Taking into a…
The random-bond Ising model on the square lattice has several disordered critical points, depending on the probability distribution of the bonds. There are a finite-temperature multicritical point, called Nishimori point, and a zero-temperature fixed point, for both a binary distribution where the coupling constants take the values +/- J and a Gaussian disorder distribution. Inclusion of dilution in the +/- J distribution (J=0 for some bonds) gives rise to another zero-temperature fixed point which can be identified with percolation in the non-frustrated case (J >= 0). We study these fixed poi…
We study a percolation problem based on critical loop configurations of the O($n$) loop model on the honeycomb lattice. We define dual clusters as groups of sites on the dual triangular lattice that are not separated by a loop, and investigate the the bond-percolation properties of these dual clusters. The universal properties at the percolation threshold are argued to match those of Kasteleyn-Fortuin random clusters in the critical Potts model. This relation is checked numerically by means of cluster simulations of several O($n$) models in the range $1\leq n \leq 2$. The simulation results in…
We study the number of clusters in two-dimensional (2d) critical percolation, N_Gamma, which intersect a given subset of bonds, Gamma. In the simplest case, when Gamma is a simple closed curve, N_Gamma is related to the entanglement entropy of the critical diluted quantum Ising model, in which Gamma represents the boundary between the subsystem and the environment. Due to corners in Gamma there are universal logarithmic corrections to N_Gamma, which are calculated in the continuum limit through conformal invariance, making use of the Cardy-Peschel formula. The exact formulas are confirmed by l…
This article investigates phonons and elastic response in randomly diluted lattices constructed by combining (via the addition of next-nearest bonds) a twisted kagome lattice, with bulk modulus $B=0$ and shear modulus $G>0$, with either a generalized untwisted kagome lattice with $B>0$ and $G>0$ or with a honeycomb lattice with $B>0$ and $G=0$. These lattices exhibit jamming-like critical end-points at which $B$, $G$, or both $B$ and $G$ jump discontinuously from zero while the remaining moduli (if any) begin to grow continuously from zero. Pairs of these jamming points are joined by lines of …
