Let $Ω$ be a $m$-hyperconvex domain of $\mathbb{C}^n$ and $β$ be the standard Kähler form in $\mathbb{C}^n$. We introduce finite energy classes of $m$-subharmonic functions of Cegrell type, $\mathcal{E}_m^p, p>0$ and $\mathcal{F}_m$. Using a variational method we show that the degenerate complex Hessian equation $(dd^cφ)^m\wedge β^{n-m}=μ$ has a unique solution in $\mathcal{E}_m^1$ if and only if every function in $\mathcal{E}_m^1$ is integrable with respect to $μ$. If $μ$ has finite total mass and does not charge $m$-polar sets, then the equation has a unique solution in $\mathcal{F}_m$.

We construct examples of twice differentiable functions in $\mathbb{R}^n$ with continuous Laplacian and unbounded Hessian. The same construction is also applicable to higher order differentiability.
We prove that, in a $m$-hyperconvex domain in $\mathbb{C}^{n},$ if a non-negative Borel measure is dominated by a complex Hessian measure, then it is a complex Hessian measure of a function in the class $\mathcal{N}_m(H)$. This is an extension of P. Åhg, U. Cegrell, R. Czyż and P.H. Hiep's result in \cite{ACCH}.
We prove the Hölder continuity of the solution to complex Hessian equation with the right hand side in $L^p$, $p>\frac{n}{m}$, $1< m< n$, in a $m$-strongly pseudoconvex domain in $\mathbb{C}^n$ under some additional conditions on the density near the boundary and on the boundary data.
We prove a Liouville type theorem for entire maximal $m$-subharmonic functions in $\mathbb C^n$ with bounded gradient. This result, coupled with a standard blow-up argument, yields a (non-explicit) a priori gradient estimate for the complex Hessian equation on a compact Kähler manifold. This terminates the program, initiated by Hou, Ma and Wu, of solving the non-degenerate Hessian equation on such manifolds in full generality. We also obtain, using our previous work, continuous weak solutions in the degenerate case for the right hand side in some $L^p, $ with sharp bound on $p$.
Let $(X,ω)$ be a compact Kähler manifold of dimension $n$ and fix $m\in \mathbb{N}$ such that $1\leq m \leq n$. We prove that any $(ω,m)$-sh function can be approximated from above by smooth $(ω,m)$-sh functions. A potential theory for the complex Hessian equation is also developed which generalizes the classical pluripotential theory on compact Kähler manifolds. We then use novel variational tools due to Berman, Boucksom, Guedj and Zeriahi to study degenerate complex Hessian equations.
Let $Ω=\{r<0\}\subset\mathbb C^2$, with $r$ plurisubharmonic on $bΩ=\{r=0\}$. Let $ρ$ be another defining function for $Ω$. A formula for the determinant of the complex Hessian of $ρ$ in terms of $r$ is computed. This formula is used to give necessary and sufficient conditions that make $ρ$ (locally) plurisubharmonic.
We prove a new integrability principle for gradient variational problems in $\mathbb{R}^2$, showing that solutions are explicitly parameterized by $κ$-harmonic functions, that is, functions which are harmonic for the laplacian with varying conductivity $κ$, where $κ$ is the square root of the Hessian determinant of the surface tension.
In this paper we consider Monge-Ampère equations on compact Hessian manifolds, or equivalently Monge-Ampère equations on certain unbounded convex domains $Ω\subseteq \mathbb{R}^n$, with a periodicity constraint given by the action of an affine group. In the case where the affine group action is volume-preserving, i.e., when the manifold is special, the solvability of the corresponding Monge-Ampère equation was established using the continuity method by Cheng and Yau. In the general case we set up a variational framework involving certain dual manifolds and a generalization of the classical Leg…
Let $Ω\Subset \mathbb C^n$ be a bounded strongly $m$-pseudoconvex domain ($1\leq m\leq n$) and $μ$ a positive Borel measure with finite mass on $Ω$. Then we solve the Hölder continuous subsolution problem for the complex Hessian equation $(dd^c u)^m \wedge β^{n - m} = μ$ on $Ω$. Namely, we show that this equation admits a unique Hölder continuous solution on $Ω$ with a given Hölder continuous boundary values if it admits a Hölder continuous subsolution on $Ω$. The main step in solving the problem is to establish a new capacity estimate showing that the $m$-Hessian measure of a Hölder continuou…
Let $z=(z_1, ..., z_n)$ and $Δ=\sum_{i=1}^n \frac {\partial^2}{\partial z^2_i}$ the Laplace operator. A formal power series $P(z)$ is said to be {\it Hessian Nilpotent}(HN) if its Hessian matrix $\Hes P(z)=(\frac {\partial^2 P}{\partial z_i\partial z_j})$ is nilpotent. In recent developments in [BE1], [M] and [Z], the Jacobian conjecture has been reduced to the following so-called {\it vanishing conjecture}(VC) of HN polynomials: {\it for any homogeneous HN polynomial $P(z)$ $($of degree $d=4$$)$, we have $Δ^m P^{m+1}(z)=0$ for any $m>>0$.} In this paper, we first show that, the VC holds for a…
Let $1\leq m\leq n$ be two fixed integers. Let $Ω\Subset \mathbb C^n$ be a bounded $m$-hyperconvex domain and $\mathcal A \subset Ω\times ]0,+ \infty[$ a finite set of weighted poles. We define and study properties of the $m$-subharmonic Green function of $Ω$ with prescribed behaviour near the weighted set $A$. In particular we prove uniform continuity of the exponential Green function in both variables $(z,\mathcal A)$ in the metric space $\bar Ω\times \mathcal F$, where $\mathcal F$ is a suitable family of sets of weighted poles in $Ω\times ]0,+ \infty[$ endowed with the Hausdorff distance. …
We study viscosity solutions to complex hessian equations. In the local case, we consider $Ω$ a bounded domain in $\mathbb{C}^n,$ $β$ the standard Kähler form in $\mathcal{C}^n$ and $1\leq m\leq n.$ Under some suitable conditions on $F, g$, we prove that the equation $(dd^c φ)^m\wedgeβ^{n-m}=F(x,φ)β^n,\ \f=g$ on $\pO$ admits a unique viscosity solution modulo the existence of subsolution and supersolution. If moreover, the datum are Hölder continuous then so is the solution. In the global case, let $(X,ω)$ be a compact hermitian homogeneous manifold where $ω$ is an invariant hermitian metric (…
Let $Ω\subset \mathbb C^n$ be a bounded strictly $m$-pseudoconvex domain ($1\leq m\leq n$) and $μ$ a positive Borel measure on $Ω$. We study the Dirichlet problem for the complex Hessian equation $(dd^c u)^m \wedge β^{n - m} = μ$ on $Ω$. First we give a sufficient condition on the "modulus of diffusion" of the measure $μ$ with respect to the $m$-Hessian capacity which guarantees the existence of a continuous solution to the associated Dirichlet problem with a continuous boundary datum. As an application, we prove that if the equation has a continuous $m$-subharmonic subsolution whose modulus o…
