The expansion of the strongly interacting quark gluon plasma (sQGP) created in Au+Au collisions at RHIC can be described by hydrodynamical models. Hadrons are created after a freeze-out, thus their distribution describes the final state of the evolution. The earlier stages can be analyzed via penetrating probes like photon observables. These were measured in 2010 and 2011 by the PHENIX experiment. Here we analyze an analytic, 1+3 dimensional perfect relativistic hydrodynamic solution and calculate hadron and photon observables, such as transverse momentum spectra, elliptic flow and correlation (HBT) radii. We find that our model is not incompatible with the data, not even with the direct photon elliptic flow. From fitting the data, we find that early temperatures of the sQGP were well above the quark-hadron transition temperature, in the hottest point, the center of the fireball the temperature may have reached 507+-12 MeV. The equation of state of this quark matter can be described by an average sound speed of 0.36+-0.02. We also predict a photon source that is significantly larger in the out direction than in the side direction.
Finding the existence and the location of the QCD critical point is one of the main goals of the RHIC beam energy scan program. To make theoretical predictions and corroborate with the experimental data requires modeling the space-time evolution of the matter created in heavy-ion collisions by dynamical models such as the relativistic hydrodynamics with an appropriate Equation of State (EoS). In the present exploratory study, we use a viscous 2+1 dimensional event-by-event (e-by-e) hydrodynamic code at finite baryon densities with two different EoSs (i) Lattice QCD + HRG with a crossover trans…
Hydrodynamical Description of 200 A GeV/c S+Au Collisions: Hadron and Electromagnetic Spectra
A state-of-the-art 3+1 dimensional cascade + viscous hydro + cascade model vHLLE+UrQMD has been applied to heavy ion collisions in RHIC Beam Energy Scan range $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=7.7\dots 200$ GeV. Based on comparison to available experimental data it was estimated that an effective value of shear viscosity over entropy density ratio $η/s$ in hydrodynamic stage has to decrease from $η/s=0.2$ to $0.08$ as collision energy increases from $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 7.7$ to $39$ GeV, and to stay at $η/s=0.08$ for $39\le\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}\le200$ GeV. In this work we show how an equation of state with first…
In this article, we examine the equation of state (EoS) dependence of the anisotropic flow parameters ($v_{1}$, $v_{2}$ and $v_{4}$) of charged and identified hadrons, as a function of transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$), rapidity ($y_{c.m.}$) and the incident beam energy ($\rm E_{\rm Lab}$) in mid-central Au + Au collisions in the energy range $\rm E_{\rm Lab} = 6 -25$ A GeV. Simulations are carried out by employing different variants of the Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) model, namely the pure transport (cascade) mode and the hybrid mode. In the hybrid mode, transport ca…
Analysis of directed flow ($v_1$) of protons, antiprotons and pions in heavy-ion collisions is performed in the range of collision energies $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.7--39 GeV. Simulations have been done within a three-fluid model employing a purely hadronic equation of state (EoS) and two versions of the EoS with deconfinement transitions: a first-order phase transition and a smooth crossover transition. The crossover EoS is unambiguously preferable for the description of experimental data at lower collision energies $\sqrt{s_{NN}}\leq$ 20 GeV. However, at higher collision energies $\sqrt{s_{NN}}\g…
Correlation femtoscopy allows one to measure the space-time characteristics of particle production in relativistic heavy-ion collisions due to the effects of quantum statistics (QS) and final state interactions (FSI). The main features of the femtoscopy measurements at top RHIC and LHC energies are considered as a manifestation of strong collective flow and are well interpreted within hydrodynamic models employing equation of state (EoS) with a crossover type transition between Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) and hadron gas phases. The femtoscopy at lower energies was intensively studied at AGS and S…
Sensitivity of electromagnetic spectra to equation of state and initial energy density in the Pb+Pb collisions at SPS
We perform a global model-to-data comparison on Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV and Pb+Pb collisions at $2.76$ TeV and $5.02$ TeV, using a 2+1D hydrodynamics model with the EKRT initial state and a shear viscosity over entropy density ratio $(η/s)(T)$ with a linear $T$ dependence. To quantify the amount of uncertainty due to the choice of the equation of state (EoS), we compare analysis results based on four different EoSs: the well known $s95p$ parametrisation, an updated parametrisation based on the same list of particles in hadron resonance gas, but using recent lattice results …
We investigate interacting quark matter (IQM), including the perturbative QCD correction and color superconductivity, for both up-down quark matter ($ud$QM) and strange quark matter (SQM). We first derive an equation of state (EOS) unifying all cases by a simple reparametrization and rescaling, through which we manage to maximally reduce the number of degrees of freedom. We find, in contrast to the conventional EOS $p=1/3(ρ-4B_{\rm eff})$ for non-interacting quark matter, that taking the extreme strongly interacting limit on the unified IQM EOS gives $p=ρ-2B_{\rm eff}$, where $B_{\rm eff}$ is …
We show the existence and investigate the location of the special point (SP) in which hybrid neutron star mass-radius (M-R) curves have to cross each other when they belong to a class of hybrid equation of state (EoS) constructed with generic constant--speed--of--sound (CSS) quark matter models for which the onset deconfinement is varied. We demonstrate that for a three-parameter CSS model the position of the SP in the M-R diagram is largely independent of the choice of the hadronic EoS, but in dependence on the stiffness of the quark matter EoS it spans a region that we identify. We find that…
We study transitions of hadronic matter (HM) to 3-flavor quark matter (3QM), regarding the conversion processes as combustion and describing them hydrodynamically. Under the assumption that HM is metastable with their free energies being larger than those of 3QM but smaller than those of 2-flavor quark matter (2QM), we consider in this paper the conversion induced by diffusions of seed 3QM. This is a sequel to our previous paper, in which the shock-induced conversion was studied in the same frame work. We not only pay attention to the jump condition on both sides of the conversion front but th…
Heavy-ion collisions are well described by a dynamical evolution with a long hydrodynamical phase. In this phase the properties of the strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma are reflected in the equation of state (EoS) and the transport coefficients, most prominently by the shear and bulk viscosity over entropy density ratios $η$/s(T) and $ζ$/s(T), respectively. While the EoS is by now known to a high accuracy, the transport coefficients and in particular their temperature and density dependence are not well known from first-principle computations yet, as well as the possible influence they can h…
We investigate the effect of feeble interaction of dark matter (DM) with hadronic matter on the equation of state (EoS) and structural properties of neutron stars (NSs) in static conditions. For the purpose we adopt the effective chiral model for the hadronic sector and for the first time in the context of possible existence of DM inside NSs, we introduce DM-SM interaction through light new physics mediator. Moreover, the mass of DM fermion, the mediator and the coupling are adopted from the self-interaction constraint from Bullet cluster and from present day relic abundance. Within the consid…
We study implications of the very recently reported mass $M=2.17^{+0.11}_{-0.10}$M$_\odot$ of PSR~J0740+6620 on the Equation of State (EOS) of super-dense neutron-rich nuclear matter with respect to existing constraints on the EOS based on the mass $M=2.01\pm 0.04$M$_\odot$ of PSR~J0348+0432, the maximum tidal deformability of GW170817 and earlier results of various terrestrial nuclear laboratory experiments. The lower limit of the skewness $J_0$ measuring the stiffness of super-dense isospin-symmetric nuclear matter is raised raised from about -220 MeV to -150 MeV, reducing significantly its …
We investigate the temperature dependence of the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio $η/s$ using a piecewise linear parametrization. To determine the optimal values of the parameters and the associated uncertainties, we perform a global Bayesian model-to-data comparison on Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV and Pb+Pb collisions at $2.76$ TeV and $5.02$ TeV, using a 2+1D hydrodynamical model with the EKRT initial state. We provide three new parametrizations of the equation of state (EoS) based on contemporary lattice results and hadron resonance gas, and use them and the widely us…
The neutron-star collision revealed by the event GW170817 gave us a first glimpse of a possible birthplace of most of our heavy elements. The multi-messenger nature of this historical event combined gravitational waves, a gamma-ray burst and optical astronomy of a ``kilonova'', bringing the first observations of rapid neutron capture (r process) nucleosynthesis after 60 years of speculation. Modeling the r process requires a prodigious amount of nuclear-physics ingredients: practically all the quantum state and interaction properties of virtually all neutron-rich nuclides, many of which may ne…
Both the mass and radius of the millisecond pulsar PSR J0030+0451 have been inferred via pulse-profile modeling of X-ray data obtained by NASA's NICER mission. In this Letter we study the implications of the mass-radius inference reported for this source by Riley et al. (2019) for the dense matter equation of state (EOS), in the context of prior information from nuclear physics at low densities. Using a Bayesian framework we infer central densities and EOS properties for two choices of high-density extensions: a piecewise-polytropic model and a model based on assumptions of the speed of sound …
In this work, we study the lensing effect of the QCD critical point on hydrodynamic trajectories, and its consequences on the net-proton kurtosis $κ_4$. Including critical behavior by means of the BEST Collaboration equation of state (EoS), we first consider a scenario in equilibrium, then compare with hydrodynamic 0+1D simulations with Bjorken expansion, including both shear and bulk viscous terms. We find that, both in and out-of-equilibrium, the size and shape of the critical region directly affect if the signal will survive through the dynamical evolution.
We explore the implications of the recent radius determination of PSR J0740+6620 by the NICER experiment combined with the neutron skin measurement by the PREX-II experiment and the associated inference of the slope of symmetry energy, for the structure of hybrid stars with a strong first-order phase transition from nucleonic to quark matter. We combine a covariant density-functional nucleonic equation of state (EOS) with a constant-speed-of-sound EOS for quark matter. We show that the radius and tidal deformability ranges obtained from GW170817 can be reconciled with the implication of the PR…
Using hydrodynamical simulations for a large set of high-density matter equations of state (EoSs) we systematically determine the threshold mass M_thres for prompt black-hole formation in equal-mass and asymmetric neutron star (NS) mergers. We devise the so far most direct, general and accurate method to determine the unknown maximum mass of nonrotating NSs from merger observations revealing M_thres. Considering hybrid EoSs with hadron-quark phase transition, we identify a new, observable signature of quark matter in NS mergers. Furthermore, our findings have direct applications in gravitation…

Determining the phase structure of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) and its Equation of State (EOS) at densities and temperatures realized inside neutron stars and their mergers is a long-standing open problem. The holographic V-QCD framework provides a model for the EOS of dense and hot QCD, which describes the deconfinement phase transition between a dense baryonic and a quark matter phase. We use this model in fully general relativistic hydrodynamic (GRHD) simulations to study the formation of quark matter and the emitted gravitational wave signal of binary systems that are similar to the first…
The equation of state (EoS) of QCD is a crucial input for the modeling of heavy-ion-collision (HIC) and neutron-star-merger systems. Calculations of the fundamental theory of QCD, which could yield the true EoS, are hindered by the infamous Fermi sign problem which only allows direct simulations at zero or imaginary baryonic chemical potential. As a direct consequence, the current coverage of the QCD phase diagram by lattice simulations is limited. In these proceedings, two different equations of state based on first-principle lattice QCD (LQCD) calculations are discussed. The first is solely …
