Finding the existence and the location of the QCD critical point is one of the main goals of the RHIC beam energy scan program. To make theoretical predictions and corroborate with the experimental data requires modeling the space-time evolution of the matter created in heavy-ion collisions by dynamical models such as the relativistic hydrodynamics with an appropriate Equation of State (EoS). In the present exploratory study, we use a viscous 2+1 dimensional event-by-event (e-by-e) hydrodynamic code at finite baryon densities with two different EoSs (i) Lattice QCD + HRG with a crossover transition and (ii) EoS with a first-order phase transition to studying the normalized symmetric cumulants of charged pions $v_n$ $(n=2-4)$. We show that the normalized symmetric cumulants can differentiate the two EoSs while all other conditions remain the same. The conclusion does not change for various initial conditions and shear viscosity. This indicates that these observables can be used to gain information about the QCD EoS from experimental data and can be used as an EoS meter.
The Fourier analysis of the final particle distribution followed by cumulant study of the Fourier coefficient event-by-event fluctuation is one of the main approaches for testing the collective evolution in the heavy-ion collision. Using a multidimensional generating function, we propose a method to extract any possible cumulant of multiharmonic flow fluctuations and classify them in terms of the order of cumulants and harmonics involved in them. In particular, we show that there are 33 distinct cumulants with orders $2,3,4,5$ and harmonics $2,3,4,5$. We compute the normalized version of these…
Newly reported normalized cumulant moments of charged particles in $e^+e^-$ collisions by the SLD collaboration are analyzed by the truncated modified negative binomial distribution (MNBD) and the negative binomial distribution (NBD). Calculated result by the MNBD describes the oscillatory behavior of the data much better than that by the NBD.
We study the dependence of the normalized moments of the net-proton multiplicity distributions on the definition of centrality in relativistic nuclear collisions at a beam energy of $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}= 7.7$ GeV. Using the UrQMD model as event generator we find that the centrality definition has a large effect on the extracted cumulant ratios. Furthermore we find that the finite efficiency for the determination of the centrality introduces an additional systematic uncertainty. Finally, we quantitatively investigate the effects of event-pile up and other possible spurious effects which may …
We present a systematic study on the influence of spatial correlations between the proton constituents, in our case gluonic hot spots, their size and their number on the symmetric cumulant SC(2,3), at the eccentricity level, within a Monte Carlo Glauber framework [1]. When modeling the proton as composed by 3 gluonic hot spots, the most common assumption in the literature, we find that the inclusion of spatial correlations is indispensable to reproduce the negative sign of SC(2,3) in the highest centrality bins as dictated by data. Further, the subtle interplay between the different scales of …
Event-by-event viscous hydrodynamics is combined with heavy quark energy loss models to compute heavy flavor flow cumulants $v_2\{2\}$, $v_3\{2\}$, and $v_2\{4\}$ as well as the nuclear modification factors of $D^0$ and $B^0$ mesons in PbPb collisions at 2.76 TeV. Our results indicate that bottom quarks can flow as much as charm quarks in the $p_T$ range 8--30 GeV.
We present a dynamical description of (anti)proton number fluctuations cumulants and correlation functions in central Au-Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 7.7-200$ GeV by utilizing viscous hydrodynamics simulations. The cumulants of proton and baryon number are calculated in a given momentum acceptance analytically, via an appropriately extended Cooper-Frye procedure describing particlization of an interacting hadron resonance gas. The effects of global baryon number conservation are taken into account using a generalized subensemble acceptance method. The experimental data of the STAR col…
Binder liked ratios of baryon number are firstly suggested in relativistic heavy ion collisions. Using 3D-Ising model, the critical behavior of Binder ratios and ratios of high order cumulants of order parameter are fully presented. Binder ratio is shown to be a step function of temperature. The critical point is the intersection of the ratios of different system sizes between two platforms. From low to high temperature through the critical point, the ratios of third order cumulants change their values from negative to positive in a valley shape, and ratios of fourth order cumulants oscillate …
We evaluate the effects of preequilibrium dynamics on observables in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. We simulate the initial nonequilibrium phase within A MultiPhase Transport (AMPT) model, while the subsequent near-equilibrium evolution is modeled using (2+1)-dimensional relativistic viscous hydrodynamics. We match the two stages of evolution carefully by calculating the full energy-momentum tensor from AMPT and using it as input for the hydrodynamic evolution. We find that when the preequilibrium evolution is taken into account, final-state observables are insensitive to the switchin…
Event-by-event fluctuations caused by quantum mechanical fluctuations in the wave function of colliding nuclei in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions were recently shown to be necessary for the simultaneous description of $R_{AA}$ as well as the elliptic and triangular flow harmonics at high $p_T$ in PbPb collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. In fact, the presence of a finite triangular flow as well as cumulants of the flow harmonic distribution that differ from the mean are only possible when these event-by-event fluctuations are considered. In this paper we combine event-by-event visco…
Due to the finite size effects, the localisation of the phase transition in finite systems and the determination of its order, become an extremely difficult task, even in the simplest known cases. In order to identify and locate the finite volume transition point $T_{0}(V)$ of the QCD deconfinement phase transition to a Colorless QGP, we have developed a new approach using the finite size cumulant expansion of the order parameter and the $L_{mn}$-method. The first six cumulants $C_{1,2,3,4,5,6}$ with the corresponding under-normalized ratios(skewness $Σ$, kurtosis $κ$ ,pentosis $Π_{\pm}$ and h…
We present a systematic study of the normalized symmetric cumulants, NSC(n,m), at the eccentricity level in proton-proton interactions at $\sqrt s\!=\! 13$ TeV within a wounded hot spot approach. We focus our attention on the influence of spatial correlations between the proton constituents, in our case gluonic hot spots, on this observable. We notice that the presence of short-range repulsive correlations between the hot spots systematically decreases the values of NSC(2,3) and NSC(2,4) in mid-to-ultra central collisions while increases them in peripheral interactions. In the case of NSC(2,3)…
To study the bulk properties of the quark-gluon-plasma (QGP) produced at the beam energy scan (BES) energies at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), we extend the (3+1)-dimensional viscous hydrodynamics CLVisc to include net baryon number conservation and Israel-Stewart-like equation for baryon diffusion with the NEOS-BQS equation of state, fluctuating initial conditions from Monte-Carlo Glauber model, and the afterburner SMASH. This integrated framework is shown to provide a good description of identified particle spectra, mean transverse momenta and anisotropic flows for different cen…
We explore Glauber Monte Carlo predictions for the planned ultra-relativistic ${}^{16}{\rm O}$+${}^{16}{\rm O}$ and p+${}^{16}{\rm O}$ collisions, as well as for collisions of ${}^{16}{\rm O}$ on heavy targets. In particular, we present specific collective flow measures which are approximately independent on the hydrodynamic response of the system, such as the ratios of eccentricities obtained from cumulants with different numbers of particles, or correlations of ellipticity and triangularity described by the normalized symmetric cumulants. We use the state-of-the-art correlated nuclear distri…
Using the event-by-event viscous hydrodynamics VISH2+1 with MC-Glauber, MC-KLN, and AMPT initial conditions, we investigate the correlations of flow harmonics, including the symmetric cumulants $SC^{v}(m, n)$, the normalized symmetric cumulants $NSC(m, n)$, and the Pearson correlation coefficients $C(v_{m}^{2}, v_{n}^{2})$ in 2.76A TeV Pb--Pb collisions. We find $SC^{v}(m, n)$ is sensitive to both initial conditions and the specific shear viscosity $η/s$. A comparison with the recent ALICE data show that our hydrodynamic calculations can qualitatively describe the data of $SC^{v}(3, 2)$ and $S…
In mean field approximation, the grand canonical potential of SU(3) Polyakov linear-$σ$ model (PLSM) is analysed for chiral phase-transition, $σ_l$ and $σ_s$ and for deconfinement order-parameters, $ϕ$ and $ϕ^*$ of light- and strange-quarks, respectively. Various PLSM parameters are determined from the assumption of global minimization of the real part of the potential. Then, we have calculated the subtracted condensates ($Δ_{l,s}$). All these results are compared with recent lattice QCD simulations. Accordingly, essential PLSM parameters are determined. The modelling of the relaxation time is…
In this paper heavy quark energy loss models are embedded in full event-by-event viscous hydrodynamic simulations to investigate the nuclear suppression factor and azimuthal anisotropy of D$^0$ mesons in PbPb collisions at 5.02 TeV in the $p_T$ range 8-40 GeV. In our model calculations, the $R_\text{AA}$ of D$^0$ mesons is consistent with experimental data from the CMS experiment. We present the first calculations of heavy flavor cumulants $v_2\{2\}$ and $v_3\{2\}$ (and also discuss $v_2\{4\}$), which is also consistent with experimental data. Event-shape engineering techniques are used to com…
Two-particle pseudorapidity correlations of hadrons produced in Pb+Pb collisions at 2.76 TeV at the CERN Large Hadron Collider are analyzed in the framework of a model based on viscous 3+1-dimensional hydrodynamics with the Glauber initial condition. Based on our results, we argue that the correlation from resonance decays, formed at a late stage of the evolution, produce significant effects. In particular, their contribution to the event averages of the coefficients of the expansion in the Legendre basis explain 60-70% of the experimental values. We have proposed an accurate way to compute th…

We determine the topological susceptibility of the gauge configurations generated by lattice simulations using two flavors of optimal domain-wall fermion on the $ 16^3 \times 32 $ lattice with length 16 in the fifth dimension, at the lattice spacing $ a \simeq 0.1 $ fm. Using the adaptive thick-restart Lanczos algorithm, we project the low-lying eigenmodes of the overlap Dirac operator, and obtain the topological charge of each configuration, for eight ensembles with pion masses in the range $ 220-550 $ MeV. From the topological charge, we compute the topological susceptibility and the second …
We analyze the proton-lead collisions at the LHC energy of 5.02TeV in the three-stage approach, previously used to successfully describe the relativistic A-A collisions. The approach consists of the early phase, modeled with the Glauber model, the event-by-event viscous 3+1 dimensional (3+1 D) relativistic hydrodynamics, and the statistical hadronization at freeze-out. We show that features typical of collective dynamics, such as the harmonic flow and the ridge structures in the two-particle correlations in relative azimuth and pseudorapidity, may be naturally explained in our framework. In th…
Using deep convolutional neural network (CNN), the nature of the QCD transition can be identified from the final-state pion spectra from hybrid model simulations of heavy-ion collisions that combines a viscous hydrodynamic model with a hadronic cascade "after-burner". Two different types of equations of state (EoS) of the medium are used in the hydrodynamic evolution. The resulting spectra in transverse momentum and azimuthal angle are used as the input data to train the neural network to distinguish different EoS. Different scenarios for the input data are studied and compared in a systematic…
