We study a continuous time random walk X in an environment of dynamic random conductances. We assume that the conductances are stationary ergodic, uniformly bounded and bounded away from zero and polynomially mixing in space and time. We prove a quenched invariance principle for X, and obtain Green's functions bounds and a local limit theorem. We also discuss a connection to stochastic interface models.
We show that there exists an ergodic conductance environment such that the weak (annealed) invariance principle holds for the corresponding continuous time random walk but the quenched invariance principle does not hold.
We prove an almost sure invariance principle for a random walker among i.i.d. conductances in $\Z^d$, $d\geq 2$. We assume conductances are bounded from above but we dot require they are bounded from below.
We study a continuous time random walk $X$ in an environment of i.i.d. random conductances $μ_e\in[1,\infty)$. We obtain heat kernel bounds and prove a quenched invariance principle for $X$. This holds even when ${\mathbb{E}}μ_e=\infty$.
We show that there exists an ergodic conductance environment such that the weak (annealed) invariance principle holds for the corresponding continuous time random walk but the quenched invariance principle does not hold. In the present paper we give a proof of the full scaling limit for the weak invariance principle, improving the result in an earlier paper where we obtained a subsequential limit.
We prove an invariance principle for continuous-time random walks in a dynamically averaging environment on $\mathbb Z$. In the beginning, the conductances may fluctuate substantially, but we assume that as time proceeds, the fluctuations decrease according to a typical diffusive scaling and eventually approach constant unit conductances. The proof relies on a coupling with the standard continuous time simple random walk.
Recent progress in the understanding of quenched invariance principles (QIP) for a continuous-time random walk on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ in an environment of dynamical random conductances is reviewed and extended to the $1$-dimensional case. The law of the conductances is assumed to be ergodic with respect to time-space shifts and satisfies certain integrability conditions.
We study a continuous time random walk, $X$, on ${\mathbb{Z}}^d$ in an environment of random conductances taking values in $(0,\infty)$. We assume that the law of the conductances is ergodic with respect to space shifts. We prove a quenched invariance principle for $X$ under some moment conditions of the environment. The key result on the sublinearity of the corrector is obtained by Moser's iteration scheme.
We consider a random walk on a random graph $(V,E)$, where $V$ is the set of open sites under i.i.d. Bernoulli site percolation on the multi-dimensional integer set $\mathbf{Z}^d$, and the transition probabilities of the walk are generated by i.i.d. random conductances (positive numbers) assigned to the edges in $E$. This random walk in random environments has long range jumps and is reversible. We prove the quenched invariance principle for this walk when the random conductances are unbounded from above but uniformly bounded from zero by taking the corrector approach. To this end, we prove a …
We consider the random conductance model in a stationary and ergodic environment. Under suitable moment conditions on the conductances and their inverse, we prove a quenched invariance principle for the random walk among the random conductances. The moment conditions improve earlier results of Andres, Deuschel and Slowik [Ann.\ Probab.] and are the minimal requirement to ensure that the corrector is sublinear everywhere. The key ingredient is an essentially optimal deterministic local boundedness result for finite difference equations in divergence form.
We consider a stationary and ergodic random field $\{ω(e) : e \in E_d\}$ that is parameterized by the edge set of the Euclidean lattice $\mathbb{Z}^d$, $d \geq 2$. The random variable $ω(e)$, taking values in $[0, \infty)$ and satisfying certain moment bounds, is thought of as the conductance of the edge $e$. Assuming that the set of edges with positive conductances give rise to a unique infinite cluster $\mathcal{C}_{\infty}(ω)$, we prove a quenched invariance principle for the continuous-time random walk among random conductances under relatively mild conditions on the structure of the infin…

We study a continuous-time random walk, $X$, on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ in an environment of dynamic random conductances taking values in $(0, \infty)$. We assume that the law of the conductances is ergodic with respect to space-time shifts. We prove a quenched invariance principle for the Markov process $X$ under some moment conditions on the environment. The key result on the sublinearity of the corrector is obtained by Moser's iteration scheme.
We study variable-speed random walks on $\mathbb Z$ driven by a family of nearest-neighbor time-dependent random conductances $\{a_t(x,x+1)\colon x\in\mathbb Z, t\ge0\}$ whose law is assumed invariant and ergodic under space-time shifts. We prove a quenched invariance principle for the random walk under the minimal moment conditions on the environment; namely, assuming only that the conductances possess the first positive and negative moments. A novel ingredient is the representation of the parabolic coordinates and the corrector via a dual random walk which is considerably easier to analyze.
We study the quenched invariance principle for random conductance models with long range jumps on $\Z^d$, where the transition probability from $x$ to $y$ is, on average, comparable to $|x-y|^{-(d+α)}$ with $α\in (0,2)$ but is allowed to be degenerate. Under some moment conditions on the conductance, we prove that the scaling limit of the Markov process is a symmetric $α$-stable Lévy process on $\R^d$.The well-known corrector method in homogenization theory does not seem to work in this setting. Instead, we utilize probabilistic potential theory for the corresponding jump processes. Two essent…
Via a Dirichlet form extension theorem and making full use of two-sided heat kernel estimates, we establish quenched invariance principles for random walks in random environments with a boundary. In particular, we prove that the random walk on a supercritical percolation cluster or among random conductances bounded uniformly from below in a half-space, quarter-space, etc., converges when rescaled diffusively to a reflecting Brownian motion, which has been one of the important open problems in this area. We establish a similar result for the random conductance model in a box, which allows us to…
We study random walks on $\mathbb Z^d$ among random conductances $\{C_{xy}\colon x,y\in\mathbb Z^d\}$ that permit jumps of arbitrary length. Apart from joint ergodicity with respect to spatial shifts, we assume only that the nearest-neighbor conductances are uniformly positive and that $\sum_{x\in\mathbb Z^d} C_{0x}|x|^2$ is integrable. Our focus is on the Quenched Invariance Principle (QIP) which we establish in all $d\ge3$ by a combination of corrector methods and heat-kernel technology. In particular, a QIP thus holds for random walks on long-range percolation graphs with exponents larger t…
We study a one-dimensional random walk among random conductances, with unbounded jumps. Assuming the ergodicity of the collection of conductances and a few other technical conditions (uniform ellipticity and polynomial bounds on the tails of the jumps) we prove a quenched conditional invariance principle for the random walk, under the condition that it remains positive until time $n$. As a corollary of this result, we study the effect of conditioning the random walk to exceed level $n$ before returning to 0 as $n\to \infty$.
We study discrete time random walks in an environment of i.i.d. non-negative bounded conductances in $\mathbb{Z}^d$. We are interested in the anomaly of the heat-kernel decay. We improve recent results and techniques.
We study a one-dimensional random walk among random conductances, with unbounded jumps. Assuming the ergodicity of the collection of conductances and a few other technical conditions (uniform ellipticity and polynomial bounds on the tails of the jumps) we prove a quenched \textit{uniform} invariance principle for the random walk. This means that the rescaled trajectory of length $n$ is (in a certain sense) close enough to the Brownian motion, uniformly with respect to the choice of the starting location in an interval of length $O(\sqrt{n})$ around the origin.
We derive a quenched invariance principle for random walks in random environments whose transition probabilities are defined in terms of weighted cycles of bounded length. To this end, we adapt the proof for random walks among random conductances by Sidoravicius and Sznitman (Probab. Theory Related Fields 129 (2004) 219--244) to the non-reversible setting.
We consider the random walk among random conductances on Z^d. We assume that the conductances are independent, identically distributed and uniformly bounded away from 0 and infinity. We obtain a quantitative version of the central limit theorem for this random walk, which takes the form of a Berry-Esseen estimate with speed t^{-1/10} for d < 3, and speed t^{-1/5} otherwise, up to logarithmic corrections.
We derive an annealed large deviation principle (LDP) for the normalised and rescaled local times of a continuous-time random walk among random conductances (RWRC) in a time-dependent, growing box in $\Z^d$. We work in the interesting case that the conductances are positive, but may assume arbitrarily small values. Thus, the underlying picture of the principle is a joint strategy of small conductance values and large holding times of the walk. The speed and the rate function of our principle are explicit in terms of the lower tails of the conductance distribution as well as the time-dependent …
We consider the symmetric simple exclusion process in $\mathbb Z^d$ with quenched bounded dynamic random conductances and prove its hydrodynamic limit in path space. The main tool is the connection, due to the self-duality of the process, between the invariance principle for single particles starting from all points and the macroscopic behavior of the density field. While the hydrodynamic limit at fixed macroscopic times is obtained via a generalization to the time-inhomogeneous context of the strategy introduced in \cite{nagy_symmetric_2002}, in order to prove tightness for the sequence of em…
We study branching diffusions in a bounded domain $D$ of $\mathbb{R}^d$ in which particles are killed upon hitting the boundary $\partial D$. It is known that any such process undergoes a phase transition when the branching rate $β$ exceeds a critical value: a multiple of the first eigenvalue of the generator of the diffusion. We investigate the system at criticality and show that the associated genealogical tree, when the process is conditioned to survive for a long time, converges to Aldous' Continuum Random Tree under appropriate rescaling. The result holds under only a mild assumption on t…
We study a one-dimensional random walk among random conductances, with unbounded jumps. Assuming the ergodicity of the collection of conductances and a few other technical conditions (uniform ellipticity and polynomial bounds on the tails of the jumps) we prove a quenched \textit{conditional} invariance principle for the random walk, under the condition that it remains positive until time $n$. As a corollary of this result, we study the effect of conditioning the random walk to exceed level $n$ before returning to 0 as $n\to \infty$. One of the main tools for proving these conditional limit la…
We consider the nearest-neighbor simple random walk on $\Z^d$, $d\ge2$, driven by a field of i.i.d. random nearest-neighbor conductances $ω_{xy}\in[0,1]$. Apart from the requirement that the bonds with positive conductances percolate, we pose no restriction on the law of the $ω$'s. We prove that, for a.e. realization of the environment, the path distribution of the walk converges weakly to that of non-degenerate, isotropic Brownian motion. The quenched functional CLT holds despite the fact that the local CLT may fail in $d\ge5$ due to anomalously slow decay of the probability that the walk ret…
We obtain the fluctuations for the occupation time of one-dimensional symmetric exclusion processes with speed change, where the transition rates (conductances) are driven by a general function W. The approach does not require sharp bounds on the spectral gap of the system nor the jump rates to be bounded from above or below. We present some examples and for one of them, we observe that the fluctuations of the current are trivial, but the fluctuations of the occupation time are given by a fractional Brownian Motion. This shows that, in general, the fluctuations of the current and of the occupa…
We consider the nearest-neighbor simple random walk on $\Z^d$, $d\ge2$, driven by a field of bounded random conductances $ω_{xy}\in[0,1]$. The conductance law is i.i.d. subject to the condition that the probability of $ω_{xy}>0$ exceeds the threshold for bond percolation on $\Z^d$. For environments in which the origin is connected to infinity by bonds with positive conductances, we study the decay of the $2n$-step return probability $P_ω^{2n}(0,0)$. We prove that $P_ω^{2n}(0,0)$ is bounded by a random constant times $n^{-d/2}$ in $d=2,3$, while it is $o(n^{-2})$ in $d\ge5$ and $O(n^{-2}\log n)…
We extend the use of random evolving sets to time-varying conductance models and utilize it to provide tight heat kernel upper bounds. It yields the transience of any uniformly lazy random walk, on Z^d, d>=3, equipped with uniformly bounded above and below, independently time-varying edge conductances, of (effectively) non-decreasing in time vertex conductances (i.e. reversing measure), thereby affirming part of [ABGK, Conj. 7.1].
We study discrete linear divergence-form operators with random coefficients, also known as the random conductance model. We assume that the conductances are bounded, independent and stationary; the law of a conductance may depend on the orientation of the associated edge. We give a simple necessary and sufficient condition for the relaxation of the environment seen by the particle to be diffusive, in the sense of every polynomial moment. As a consequence, we derive polynomial moment estimates on the corrector.
In this note, we demonstrate an instance of bounded-degree graphs of size $n$, for which the total variation mixing time for the random walk is decreased by a factor of $\log n/ \log\log n$ if we multiply the edge-conductances by bounded factors in a certain way.
We study a random conductance problem on a $d$-dimensional discrete torus of size $L > 0$. The conductances are independent, identically distributed random variables uniformly bounded from above and below by positive constants. The effective conductance $A_L$ of the network is a random variable, depending on $L$, and the main result is a quantitative central limit theorem for this quantity as $L \to \infty$. In terms of scalings we prove that this nonlinear nonlocal function $A_L$ essentially behaves as if it were a simple spatial average of the conductances (up to logarithmic corrections). Th…
In this note we (in particular) prove an almost sure invariance principle (ASIP) for non-stationary and uniformly bounded sequences of random variables which are exponentially fast $ϕ$-mixing. The obtained rate is of order $o(V_n^{\frac14+\del})$ for an arbitrary $\del>0$, where $V_n$ is the variance of the underlying partial sums $S_n$. For certain classes of inhomogeneous Markov chains we also prove a vector-valued ASIP with similar rates.
Consider the invariance principle for a random walk with random environment (denoted by $μ$) in time on $\bfR$ in a weak quenched sense. We show that a sequence of the random probability measures on $\bfR$ generated by a bounded Lipschitz functional $f$ and $μ$ will converge in distribution to another random probability measures, which is related to $f$ and two independent Brownian motions. The upper bound of the convergence rate has been obtained. We also explain that in general, this convergence can not be strengthened to the almost surely sense.
We consider suitable weak solutions of 2-dimensional Euler equations on bounded domains, and show that the class of completely random measures is infinitesimally invariant for the dynamics. Space regularity of samples of these random fields falls outside of the well-posedness regime of the PDE under consideration, so it is necessary to resort to stochastic integrals with respect to the candidate invariant measure in order to give a definition of the dynamics. Our findings generalize and unify previous results on Gaussian stationary solutions of Euler equations and point vortex dynamics. We als…
For the random walk among random conductances, we prove that the environment viewed by the particle converges to equilibrium polynomially fast in the variance sense, our main hypothesis being that the conductances are bounded away from zero. The basis of our method is the establishment of a Nash inequality, followed either by a comparison with the simple random walk or by a more direct analysis based on a martingale decomposition. As an example of application, we show that under certain conditions, our results imply an estimate of the speed of convergence of the mean square displacement of the…
We consider branching random walk in spatial random branching environment (BRWRE) in dimension one, as well as related differential equations: the Fisher-KPP equation with random branching and its linearized version, the parabolic Anderson model (PAM). When the random environment is bounded, we show that after recentering and scaling, the position of the maximal particle of the BRWRE, the front of the solution of the PAM, as well as the front of the solution of the randomized Fisher-KPP equation fulfill quenched invariance principles. In addition, we prove that at time t the distance between t…
We consider stochastic processes on complete, locally compact tree-like metric spaces $(T,r)$ on their "natural scale" with boundedly finite speed measure $ν$. Given a triple $(T,r,ν)$ such a speed-$ν$ motion on $(T,r)$ can be characterized as the unique strong Markov process which if restricted to compact subtrees satisfies for all $x,y\in T$ and all positive, bounded measurable $f$, \[ \mathbb{E}^x [ \int^{τ_y}_0\mathrm{d}s\, f(X_s) ] = 2\int_Tν(\mathrm{d}z)\, r(y,c(x,y,z))f(z) < \infty, \] where $c(x,y,z)$ denotes the branch point generated by $x,y,z$. If $(T,r)$ is a discrete tree, $X$ is …
We consider a random conductance model on the $d$-dimensional lattice, $d\in[2,\infty)\cap\mathbb{N}$, where the conductances take values in $(0,\infty)$ and are however not assumed to be bounded from above and below. We assume that the law of the random conductances is stationary and ergodic with respect to translations on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ and invariant with respect to reflections on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ and satisfies a similar moment bound as that by Andres, Deuschel, and Slowik (2015), under which a quenched FCLT holds. We prove a first-order Liouville theorem. In the proof we construct the subline…
The parabolic Anderson model is defined as the partial differential equation \partial u(x,t)/\partial t = κΔu(x,t) + ξ(x,t)u(x,t), x\in\Z^d, t\geq 0, where κ\in [0,\infty) is the diffusion constant, Δis the discrete Laplacian, and ξis a dynamic random environment that drives the equation. The initial condition u(x,0)=u_0(x), x\in\Z^d, is taken to be non-negative and bounded. The solution of the parabolic Anderson equation describes the evolution of a field of particles performing independent simple random walks with binary branching: particles jump at rate 2dκ, split into two at rate ξ\vee 0, …
We study the diagonal heat-kernel decay for the four-dimensional nearest-neighbor random walk (on $\Z^4$) among i.i.d. random conductances that are positive, bounded from above but can have arbitrarily heavy tails at zero. It has been known that the quenched return probability $\cmss P_ω^{2n}(0,0)$ after $2n$ steps is at most $C(ω) n^{-2} \log n$, but the best lower bound till now has been $C(ω) n^{-2}$. Here we will show that the $\log n$ term marks a real phenomenon by constructing an environment, for each sequence $λ_n\to\infty$, such that $$ \cmss P_ω^{2n}(0,0)\ge C(ω)\log(n)n^{-2}/λ_n, $$…
We show that with high probability the number of real zeroes of a random polynomial is bounded by the number of vertices on its Newton-Hadamard polygon times the cube of the logarithm of the polynomial degree. A similar estimate holds for zeroes lying on any curve in the complex plane, which is the graph of a Lipschitz function in polar coordinates. The proof is based on the classical Turán lemma.
We consider random walks on $\Z^d$ among nearest-neighbor random conductances which are i.i.d., positive, bounded uniformly from above but whose support extends all the way to zero. Our focus is on the detailed properties of the paths of the random walk conditioned to return back to the starting point at time $2n$. We show that in the situations when the heat kernel exhibits subdiffusive decay --- which is known to occur in dimensions $d\ge4$ --- the walk gets trapped for a time of order $n$ in a small spatial region. This shows that the strategy used earlier to infer subdiffusive lower bounds…
Consider a system of particles performing nearest neighbor random walks on the lattice $\ZZ$ under hard--core interaction. The rate for a jump over a given bond is direction--independent and the inverse of the jump rates are i.i.d. random variables belonging to the domain of attraction of an $\a$--stable law, $0<\a<1$. This exclusion process models conduction in strongly disordered one-dimensional media. We prove that, when varying over the disorder and for a suitable slowly varying function $L$, under the super-diffusive time scaling $N^{1 + 1/α}L(N)$, the density profile evolves as the solut…
In this paper we study functions with low influences on product probability spaces. The analysis of boolean functions with low influences has become a central problem in discrete Fourier analysis. It is motivated by fundamental questions arising from the construction of probabilistically checkable proofs in theoretical computer science and from problems in the theory of social choice in economics. We prove an invariance principle for multilinear polynomials with low influences and bounded degree; it shows that under mild conditions the distribution of such polynomials is essentially invariant …
We study the front of the solution to the F-KPP equation with randomized non-linearity. Under suitable assumptions on the randomness involving spatial mixing behavior and boundedness, we show that the front of the solution lags at most logarithmically in time behind the front of the solution of the corresponding linearized equation, i.e. the parabolic Anderson model. This can be interpreted as a partial generalization of Bramson's findings for the homogeneous setting. Building on this result, we establish functional central limit theorems for the fronts of the solutions to both equations.
