In this work, we calculate the {\it CP}-averaged branching ratios and the polarization fractions of the charmless hadronic $B_c \to A_2 A_3$ decays within the framework of perturbative QCD(pQCD) approach, where $A$ is either a light $^3P_1$ or $^1P_1$ axial-vector meson. These thirty two decay modes can occur through the annihilation topology only. Based on the perturbative calculations and phenomenological analysis, we find the following results: (a) the branching ratios of the considered thirty two $B_c\to A_2 A_3$ decays are in the range of $10^{-5}$ to $10^{-8}$; (b) $B_c\to a_1 b_1$, $\ov{K}_1^0 K_1^+$ and some other decays have sizable branching ratios and can be measured at the LHC experiments; (c) the branching ratios of $B_c \to A_2(^1P_1) A_3(^1P_1)$ decays are generally much larger than those of $B_c \to A_2(^3P_1) A_3(^3P_1)$ decays with a factor around (10 $\sim$ 100); (d) the branching ratios of $B_c \to \ov{K}_1^0 K_1^+$ decays are sensitive to the value of $θ_K$, which will be tested by the running LHC and forthcoming SuperB experiments; (e) the large longitudinal polarization contributions govern most considered decays and play the dominant role.
The CDF 3.7 sigma evidence of pure annihilation $B_s \to π^+ π^-$ decays, if confirmed, would imply a large annihilation scenario in the QCD factorization approach. This is somewhat unexpected as the large annihilation scenario was disfavored in previous studies. In this paper we reinvestigate the role of annihilation topology in QCD factorization. We find that it is not easy to reach the CDF central value of $B_s \to π^+ π^-$ decays when other decay channels are considered. Our analysis also reveals that, for well-measured charmless B decays into two final pseudoscalar mesons, the QCD factori…
The rare decay $B^+ \to D_s^+ ϕ$ can occur only via annihilation type diagrams in the standard model. We calculate this decay in perturbative QCD approach with Sudakov resummation. We found that the branching ratio of $B^+ \to D_s^+ ϕ$ is of order $10^{-7}$ which may be measured in the near future by KEK and SLAC $B$ factories. The small branching ratio predicted in standard model makes this channel sensitive to new physics contributions.
The rare decays $B_s^0\to D^\pm π^\mp$ and $\bar B_s^0\to D^\mp π^\pm$ can occur only via annihilation type diagrams in the standard model. In this paper, we calculate branching ratios of these decays in perturbative QCD approach ignoring soft final state interaction. From our calculation, we find that their branching ratios are at $\mathcal{O}(10^{-6})$ with large CP asymmetry, which may be measured in LHC-b experiment in future.
We use $\bar p p$ and $e^+e^-$ annihilation data to further strengthen lower bounds on the partial lifetimes for the baryon-number-violating dinucleon decays $nn \to e^+ e^-$ and $nn \to μ^+μ^-$.
We point out that two models that reconcile the neutron lifetime anomaly via dark decays of the neutron, also predict dark matter-neutron ($\barχ-n$) annihilation that may be observable in neutron-antineutron oscillation and proton decay searches at Super-Kamiokande, Hyper-Kamiokande and DUNE. We study signatures of $\barχn\to γπ^0$ (or multi-$π^0$) and $\barχn\to ϕγπ^0$ (or $ϕ+$multi-$π^0$), where $ϕ$ is an almost massless boson in one of the two models.
An improved description of four-pion production in electron-positron annihilation and in tau lepton decays is presented. The model amplitude is fitted to recent data from BaBar which cover a wide energy range and which were obtained exploiting the radiative return. Predicting tau decay distributions from e+e- data and comparing these predictions with ALEPH and CLEO results, the validity of isospin symmetry is confirmed within the present experimental errors. A good description of two- and three-pion sub-distributions is obtained. Special emphasis is put on the predictions for omega pi (-> pi+p…
The annihilation type diagrams are difficult to calculate in any kind of models or method. Encouraged by the the successful calculation of pure annihilation type B decays in the perturbative QCD factorization approach, we calculate the pure annihilation type $D\to PP(V)$ decays in the perturbative QCD approach based on the $k_T$ factorization. Although the expansion parameter $1/m_D$ is not very small, our leading order numerical results agree with the existing experiment data for most channels. We expect the more accurate observation from experiments, which can help us learn about the dynamic…
For $B_{d,s} \to π^\mp K^\pm$ and $K^{(\ast)} K^{(\ast)}$ decays, the flavor symmetry breaking effects may be particularly small since the final state interactions should be the same between the corresponding $B_d$ and $B_s$ decays due to the charge conjugation symmetry of the final states. This is consistent with the newly measured direct CP asymmetry of $B_s \to π^+ K^-$. These decays are thus supposed to be important in testing the Standard Model and in probing new physics effects. However, the observation of pure annihilation decay $B_s \to π^+ π^-$ appears to imply a large annihilation sc…
In Perturbative QCD (PQCD) approach we study the direct $CP$ violation in the pure annihilation decay process of $\bar{B}^0_{s}\rightarrowπ^+π^-π^+π^-$ induced by the $ρ$ and $ω$ double resonance effect. Generally, the $CP$ violation is small in the pure annihilation type decay process. However, we find that the $CP$ violation can be enhanced by double $ρ-ω$ interference when the invariant masses of the $π^+π^-$ pairs are in the vicinity of the $ω$ resonance. For the decay process of $\bar{B}^0_{s}\rightarrowπ^+π^-π^+π^-$, the maximum $CP$ violation can reach 28.64{\%}.
Pure leptonic radiative decays of heavy-light mesons are calculated using a very simple non-relativistic model. Dominant contribution originates from photon emission from light initial quark. We find $BR(B^\pm\to\ellνγ)\sim3.5\times10^{-6}$ and $BR(D_s\to \ellνγ)\sim1.7 \times10^{-4}$. The importance of these reactions to clarify the dynamics of the annihilation graph is emphasized.
The rare decays $B^+ \to D_s^{+} ϕ$, $B^0 \to D_s^{(*)-} K^+$ and $B^+ \to D_s^{(*)+} \bar{K}^0$ can occur only via annihilation type diagrams in the standard model. We calculate these decays in perturbative QCD approach. We found that the calculated branching ratio of $B^0 \to D_s^- K^+$ agree with the data which had been observed in the KEK and SLAC B factories. The decay $B^+ \to D_s^{(*)+} \bar K^0$ has a very small branching ratio at O ($10^{-8}$), due to the suppression from CKM matrix elements. The branching ratio of $B^+ \to D_s^+ ϕ$ is of order $10^{-7}$ which may be measured in the n…
Collider experiments provide an opportunity to shed light on dark matter (DM) self-interactions. In this work, we study the possibility of generating DM bound states -- the Darkonium -- at the LHC and discuss how the annihilation decay of the Darkonium produces force carriers. We focus on two popular scenarios that contain large DM self-couplings: the Higgsinos in the $λ$-SUSY model, and self-interacting DM (SIDM) framework. After forming bound states, the DM particles annihilate into force mediators, which decay into the standard model particles either through a prompt or displaced process. T…
We extend the simple scenario for $Ψ'$ decays suggested a few years ago. The $c\bar c$ pair in the $Ψ'$ does not annihilate directly into three gluons but rather survives before annihilating. An interesting prediction is that a large fraction of all $Ψ'$ decays could originate from the $Ψ' \to η_{c} (3π)$ channel which we urge experimentalists to identify. Our model solves the problem of the apparent hadronic excess in $Ψ'$ decays as well as the $ρπ$ puzzle since, in our view, the two-body decays of the $Ψ'$ are naturally of electromagnetic origin. Further tests of this picture are proposed, e…
The recent measurements of large transverse fractions in B \to ϕK^* decays represent a challenge for theory. It was shown that the QCD penguin annihilation could contribute to the transverse amplitudes such that the observation could be accounted for in the Standard Model. However, if one resorts to new physics for resolutions, then the relevant 4-quark operators should be tensor-like or scalar-like. We show that the same annihilation effects could remarkably enhance the longitudinal rates of factorization-suppressed B\to h_1(1380) K^*, b_1(1235) K^* modes to be (12.0^{+4.1}_{-3.0})\times 10^{…
In this paper, in order to probe the spectator-scattering and weak annihilation contributions in charmless $B_s\to VV$ (where $V$ stands for a light vector meson) decays, we perform the $χ^2$-analyses for the end-point parameters within the QCD factorization framework, under the constraints from the measured $\bar B_{s}\to$$ρ^0ϕ$, $ϕK^{*0}$, $ϕϕ$ and $K^{*0}\bar K^{*0}$ decays. The fitted results indicate that the end-point parameters in the factorizable and nonfactorizable annihilation topologies are non-universal, which is also favored by the charmless $B\to PP$ and $PV$ (where $P$ stands fo…
We calculate the branching ratios of pure annihilation type decays $B^0\rightarrow D_{s}^{-}K_{2}^{*+}$ and $B_s\rightarrow \bar{D}a_{2}$ using the perturbative QCD approach based on $k_T$ factorization. The branching ratios are predicted to be $(60.6_{-16.5\,-10.4\,-2.1}^{+17.3\,+4.3\,+3.2}) \times 10^{-6}$ for $B^0\rightarrow D_{s}^{-}K_{2}^{*+}$, $(1.1_{-0.4\,-0.2\,-0.1}^{+0.4\,+0.1\,+0.1})\times 10^{-6}$ for $B_s\rightarrow \bar{D}a_{2}^{0}$ and $(2.3_{-0.8\,-0.4\,-0.1}^{+0.8\,+0.2\,+0.1})\times 10^{-6}$ for $B_{s}\rightarrow D^{-}a_{2}^{+}$. They are large enough to be measured in the ong…
The semi-constrained NMSSM (scNMSSM), or NMSSM with non-universal Higgs masses, can naturally predict a light dark matter under current constraints including Higgs data, sparticle-mass bounds, dark matter searches, and muon g-2, etc. In this work, we take this scenario of scNMSSM as an example to study the funnel-annihilation mechanisms of light dark matter ($1\!\thicksim\!62$ GeV) and the invisible Higgs decay. In this scenario we found that: (i) There can be four funnel-annihilation mechanisms for the LSP $\tildeχ^0_1$, which are the $h_2$, $Z$, $h_1$ and $a_1$ funnel. (ii) For the $h_1$ and…
In this paper, the contributions of weak annihilation and hard spectator scattering in $B\to ρK^*$, $ K^* \bar{K}^*$, $ϕK^*$, $ρρ$ and $ϕϕ$ decays are investigated within the framework of QCD factorization. Using the experimental data available, we perform $χ^2$ analyses of end-point parameters in four cases based on the topology-dependent and polarization-dependent parameterization schemes. The fitted results indicate that: (i) In the topology-dependent scheme, the relation $(ρ_A^{i},ϕ_A^{i})\neq (ρ_A^{f},ϕ_A^{f})$ gotten through $B\to PP$ and $PV$ decays is favored by the penguin-dominated $…
Recursive solution for a general homogeneous in time pure birth branching process with simultaneous production of any number of particles and with continuous evolution parameter is given. Calculational algorithm based on the use of Koenigs function and functional Schroder equation is described. It is shown that multiplicity distributions in e+e- annihilation into hadrons for c.m. energies up to 189 GeV are well described by the modified negative binomial distribution, explained by simple pure birth branching process without multiple simultaneous particle production. The energy dependence of th…
We study two-body D -> PP decays, assuming that each decay process go through the bare amplitude followed by elastic SU(3) rescattering, where the bare amplitude consists of (i) the color-allowed and color-suppressed factorization amplitudes and (ii) the short-distance weak annihilation amplitudes. We have performed the χ^2 fit on 14 branching ratios of D -> PP decays in the formalism of the above mentioned model. The final state interactions can be well accounted for by the short-distance annihilation topologies and SU(3) rescatterings. The two SU(3) rescattering phase differences are δ\equiv…
Order alpha^2 contribution to the orthopositronium decay rate due to one-photon virtual annihilation is found to be delta Gamma = (alpha/pi)^2 (pi^2 ln(alpha) - 0.8622(9))Gamma_LO.
In this work, we recalculate the charmless pure annihilation decays $B_s\to π^+ π^-$ and $B^0 \to K^+ K^-$ by using the perturbative QCD (pQCD) factorization approach, and compare the pQCD predictions with currently available experimental measurements. We used the same set of relevant input parameters and wave functions to make the calculations for the considered decay modes and found the following results: (a) one can provide a consistent pQCD interpretation for both the measured $Br(B_s^0 \to π^+ π^-)$ and $Br(B_d^0 \to K^+ K^-)$ simultaneously; (b) the pQCD predictions for $Br(B_s^0 \to π^+…
We take a closer look at the gaugino masses in the context of pure gravity mediation models/minimal split SUSY models. We see that the gaugino mass spectrum has a richer structure in the presence of vector-like matter fields even when they couple to the supersymmetry breaking sector only through Planck suppressed operators. For example, the gluino mass can be much lighter than in anomaly mediation, enhancing the detectability of the gluino at the LHC experiments. The rich gaugino spectrum also allows new possibilities for dark matter scenarios such as the bino-wino co-annihilation, bino-gluino…
To clarify the marked difference between BES and CLEO measurements on the non-$D\bar D$ decays of the $ψ(3770)$, a $1^{3}D_{1}$-dominated charmonium, we calculate the annihilation decay of $ψ(3770)$ in NRQCD. By introducing the color-octet contributions, the results are free from infrared divergences. The color-octet matrix elements are estimated by solving the evolution equations. The S-D mixing effect is found to be very small. With $m_{c}=1.5\pm0.1\textrm{GeV}$ our result is $Γ(ψ(3770)\to \textrm{light hadrons})=467^{-187}_{+338}\textrm{KeV}$. For $m_c=1.4$ GeV, together with the observed h…
We study the $B_s \to π^+ π^-$ and $B_d \to K^+ K^-$ decays in the standard model and the family non-universal $Z^\prime$ model. Since none of the quarks in final states is the same as the initial quark, these decay modes can occur only via power-suppressed annihilation diagrams. Despite the consistence of the standard model prediction with the available data, there is a surviving room for a light $Z^\prime$ boson. Taking into account the $Z^\prime$ contribution, we find theoretical results for branching fractions can better accommodate the data. With the relevant data, we also derive a constr…
In the pole-dominance model for the two-body nonleptonic decays of charmed mesons $D \rightarrow PV$ and $D \rightarrow VV$, it is shown that the contributions of the intermediate pseudoscalar and the axial-vector meson poles cancel each other in the annihilation diagrams in the chiral limit. In the same limit, the annihilation diagrams for the $D \rightarrow PP$ decays vanish independently.
The channel $D_s^+\to p\bar n$ is the only kinematically allowed baryonic D decay. It proceeds solely through the W-annihilation topology. Hence, a recent observation of this mode by CLEO will shed light on the dynamics of W-annihilation. At the short-distance level, its branching ratio is very small, of order $10^{-6}$, owing to chiral suppression. It receives long-distance contributions through final-state scattering of the leading tree and color-suppressed amplitudes. Assuming that the long-distance enhancement of W-annihilation in the baryonic D decay is similar to that in the mesonic $D_s…
We investigate the pure annihilation type radiative $B$ meson decays $B^0 \to ϕγ$ and $B_s \to ρ^0(ω)γ$ in the soft-collinear effective theory. We consider three types of contributions to the decay amplitudes, including the direct annihilation topology, the contribution from the electro-magnetic penguin operator and the contribution of the neutral vector meson mixings. The numerical analysis shows that the decay amplitudes are dominated by the $ω-ϕ$ mixing effect in the $B^0 \to ϕγ$ and $B_s \to ωγ$ modes. The corresponding decay branching ratios are enhanced about three orders of magnitudes r…
The semileptonic B-> Xu l nu decays allow a pretty clean determination of the CKM matrix element |Vub|. Nevertheless, the presence of weak-annihilation effects near the end-point of the q2 spectrum introduces uncertainties in the inclusive calculation, requiring the use of non-perturbative techniques like heavy meson chiral perturbation theory and large NC limit.
At the Large Hadron Collider, heavy particles may be produced in pairs close to their kinematic threshold. If these particles have strong enough attractive interactions they may form bound states. Consequently, the bound states may decay through annihilation back into the standard model. Such annihilation decays have the potential to provide much information about the bound particles, such as their mass, spin, or charges, in a manner completely complementary to standard single particle cascade decays. Many of the signatures, such as dijet resonances, will be challenging to find, but may be ext…
Based on SU(3) flavor symmetry, many of the quark-graph amplitudes in two-body nonleptonic decays of charmed mesons can be extracted from experiment, which enable us to see the relevance and importance of weak annihilation topologies and to determine the complex parameters $a_1$ and $a_2$ to test the factorization approach. It is found that $a_2$ in $D\to \bar K^*π$ and $D\to \bar Kρ$ can be different by a factor of 2, indicating that nonfactorizable corrections to the latter are far more important than the former. The relative phase between $a_1$ and $a_2$ is about $150^\circ$. Weak annihilat…
We analyzed the process of $B_s\rightarrow ρρ$ decay in QCD factorization (QCDF) and final state interaction (FSI) effects. In QCDF for this decay we have only the annihilation graph and we expected small Branching ratio. Then we considered FSI effect as a sizable correction where the intermediate states are $π^0π^0$, $π^+π^-$, $K^0\bar{K^0}$ and $K^+K^-$ mesons. To consider the amplitudes of these intermediate states, QCDF approach was used. The experimental branching ratio of $B_s\rightarrow ρρ$ is less than $3.20\times 10^{-4}$ and our result is $1.08 \times 10^{-9}$ and $3.29 \times10^{-4}…
In this paper, by employing the $k_{T}$ factorization theorem, we made the first calculation for the space-like scalar pion form factor $Q^2 F(Q^2)$ at the leading order (LO) and the next-to-leading order (NLO) level, and then found the time-like scalar pion form factor $F'^{(1)}_{\rm a,I}$ by analytic continuation from the space-like one. From the analytical evaluations and the numerical results, we found the following points: (a) the NLO correction to the space-like scalar pion form factor has an opposite sign with the LO one but is very small in magnitude, can produce at most $10\%$ decreas…
The mixing between nonstrange and strange quark wavefunctions in the $ω$ and $ϕ$ mesons leads to a small predicted branching ratio $\b(D_s^+ \to ωe^+ ν_e) = {\cal O}(10^{-4})(δ/3.34^\circ)^2$, where $δ$ is the mixing angle. The value $δ= -3.34^\circ$ is obtained in a mass-independent analysis, while a mass-dependent analysis gives $δ= -0.45^\circ$ at $m(ω)$ and $-4.64^\circ$ at $m(ϕ)$. Measurement of this branching ratio thus can tell whether the decay is dominated by $ϕ$--$ω$ mixing, or additional nonperturbative processes commonly known as "weak annihilation" (WA) contribute. The role of WA …
We analyze the decay $B\to ϕK$ within the framework of QCD-improved factorization. We found that although the twist-3 kaon distribution amplitude dominates the spectator interactions, it will suppress the decay rates slightly. The weak annihilation diagrams induced by $(S-P)(S+P)$ penguin operators, which are formally power-suppressed by order $(Λ/m_b)^2$, are chirally and logarithmically enhanced. Therefore, these annihilation contributions are not subject to helicity suppression and can be sizable. The predicted branching ratio of $B^-\toϕK^-$ is $(3.8\pm0.6)\times 10^{-6}$ in the absence of…
We first investigate the semileptonic annihilation decay B_c \to η' lνin QCD. We find that the $η'$ momentum distribution is peaked within its small recoil region due to the loop effects. The branching ratio is estimated to be $ Br(B_c \to η' lν)=1.6\times 10^{-4}$ for $l=μ,e$, which is accessible at CERN LHC.
We classify LambdaQCD/mb power corrections to nonleptonic B-> M1 M2 decays, where M1 and M2 are charmless non-isosinglet mesons. Using recent developments in soft-collinear effective theory, we prove that the leading contributions to annihilation amplitudes of O[alphas(mb) LambdaQCD/mb] are real. The leading annihilation amplitudes depend on twist-2 and twist-3 three parton distributions. A complex nonperturbative parameter from annihilation first appears at O[alphas^2(sqrt{Lambda mb}) LambdaQCD/mb]. ``Chirally enhanced'' contributions are also factorizable and real at lowest order. Thus, inca…
The ampitude of the $B\toργ$ decay induced by the flavour-changing neutral currents contains the penguin contribution and the weak-annihilation contribution generated by the 4-quark operators in the effective Hamiltonian. The penguin contribution is known quite well. We analyse the weak-annihilation which is suppressed by the heavy-quark mass compared to the penguin contribution. In the factorization approximation, the weak annihilation amplitude is represented in terms of the leptonic decay constants and the meson-photon matrix elements of the weak currents. The latter contain the $Bγ$, $ργ$ …
Constraints on the indirect detection of dark matter are usually obtained from observations of astrophysical objects -- the Galactic Center, dwarf galaxies, M31, etc. Here we propose instead to look for the annihilation or decay of dark matter particles taking place inside detectors searching \emph{directly} for dark matter or in large neutrino experiments. We show that the data from XENON1T and Borexino set limits on the annihilation and decay rate of dark matter particles with masses in the keV to few MeV range. All relevant final states are considered: annihilation into $γγ$ and $e^-e^+$, a…
In this work, we calculate the rare decays $B^0 \to D_s^{*-} K^+$ and $B^+ \to D_s^{*+} \bar{K}^0$ in perturbative QCD approach with Sudakov resummation. We give the branching ratio of $10^{-5}$ for $B^0 \to D_s^{*-}K^+$, which will be tested soon in $B$ factories. The decay $B^+ \to D_s^{*+} \bar{K}^0$ has a very small branching ratio at ${\cal O}(10^{-8})$, due to the suppression from CKM matrix elements $|V_{ub}^* V_{cd}|$. It may be sensitive to new physics contributions.
We give predictions for the branching ratios of several rare radiative B-decays which proceed only through weak annihilation mechanism. In addition to previous analysis we estimate the branching ratios of $\bar{B}^0_s\to D^{*0}γ$ and $B_c^-\toρ^-γ$ decays and obtain $2.87\cdot 10^{-9}$ and $2.59\cdot 10^{-7}$ for them correspondingly. The accuracy of the predictions is at the level of 20\%.
We apply the operator product expansion (OPE) technique to the decay and annihilation of heavy particles in a thermal medium with temperature below the heavy particle mass, m_chi. This allows us to explain two interesting observations made before: a) that the leading thermal correction to the decay width of a charged particle is the same multiplicative factor of the zero-temperature width for a two-body decay and muon decay, and b) that the leading thermal correction to fermionic dark matter annihilation arises only at order T^4/m_chi^4. The OPE further considerably simplifies the computation …
We search for signals of Weak Annihilation in inclusive semileptonic D decays. We consider both the widths and the lepton energy moments, which are quite sensitive probes. Our analysis of Cleo data shows no clear evidence of Weak Annihilation, and allows us to put bounds on their relevance in charmless B semileptonic decays.
We study the decays into six quarks of off-shell pairs of W bosons produced in electron-positron annihilations, through the O(as^2) order in the strong coupling constant. We give explicit helicity amplitude formulae. We present numerical results in the context of phenomenological analyses of relevance at LEP2 and future Linear Colliders: such as MW determinations, New Physics and Higgs searches.
We investigate the effect of unparticles in the pure annihilation type decays $B^- \to D_s^-ϕ$ and $ D_s^- K^{*0}$. Since these decays have only annihilation contributions their branching ratios are expected to be very small in the standard model and the direct CP asymmetry parameters to be zero. We find that due to the unparticle effect these branching ratios can be significantly enhanced from their standard model values. Furthermore, sizable nonzero direct CP violation could also be possible in these channels due to the presence of intrinsic CP conserving phase in the unparticle propagator.
By assuming that the scalar meson $K_0^*(1430)$ belongs to the first excited states or the lowest lying ground states, we study the pure annihilation-type decays $B \to K_0^{*\pm}(1430)K^{(*)\mp}$ in the QCD factorization approach. Within the standard model, the branching fractions are at the order of $10^{-8}-10^{-7}$, which is possible to be measured in the ongoing LHCb experiment or forthcoming Belle-II experiment. We also study these decays in the family non-universal $Z^\prime$ model. The results show that if $m_{Z^\prime}\approx 600\mathrm{GeV}$ ($ζ=0.02$), both the branching fractions a…
With heavy quark limit and hierarchy approximation $λ_{QCD}\ll m_D\ll m_B$, we analyze the $B\to D^0\bar D^0$ and $B_s\to D^0\bar D^0$ decays, which occur purely via annihilation type diagrams. As a roughly estimation, we calculate their branching ratios and CP asymmetries in Perturbative QCD approach. The branching ratio of $B\to D^0\bar D^0$ is about $3.8\times10^{-5}$ that is just below the latest experimental upper limit. The branching ratio of $B_s\to D^0\bar D^0$ is about $6.8\times10^{-4}$, which could be measured in LHC-b. From the calculation, it could be found that this branching rat…
The two-body mesonic $B$ decays induced only via a single $W$-exchange or annihilation quark diagram, such as $B^-_u\rightarrow D^{(*)-}_sK^{(*)0}$ and $\bar{B}^0_d\rightarrow D^{(*)+}_sK^{(*)-}$, are analyzed in the factorization approximation. We estimate the branching ratios for those transitions into two pseudoscalar mesons, and find them to be negligibly small. The significant effect of final-state rescattering is illustrated by taking $B^-_u\rightarrow D^-\bar{K}^0$ for example.
The large decay rate observed by Belle for $B^+\toψ(3770)K^+$, which is comparable to $B^+\toψ(3686)K^+$, might indicate either an unexpectedly large S-D mixing angle $|θ|\approx 40^o$ or the leading role of the color-octet mechanism in D-wave charmonium production in B decay. By calculating the production rate of $ψ(3770)$ in the continuum $e^+e^-$ annihilation at $\sqrt{s}=10.6$ GeV with these two possible approaches (i.e. the large S-D mixing and the color-octet mechanism), we show that the measurement for this process at Belle and BaBar may provide a clear cut clarification for the two app…
We present threshold enhanced QCD corrections to the bottom quark energy distribution in Higgs boson decay and to hadroproduction in $l^+l^-$ annihilation beyond leading order in the strong coupling constant. This is achieved using the resummed decay distribution obtained using renormalisation group invariance and the mass factorisation theorem that they satisfy and Sudakov resummation of soft gluons.
The recently measured semileptonic D_s decay rate can be used to constrain weak annihilation (WA) effects in semileptonic D and B decays. We revisit the theoretical predictions for inclusive semileptonic D_{(s)} decays using a variety of quark mass schemes. The most reliable results are obtained if the fits to B decay distributions are used to eliminate the charm quark mass dependence, without using any specific charm mass scheme. Our fit to the available data shows that WA is smaller than commonly assumed. There is no indication that the WA octet contribution (which is better constrained than…
We study the decay $B^\pm\to ϕK^{\ast\pm}$, followed by the decay of the outgoing vector mesons into two pseudoscalars. The analysis of angular distributions of the decay products is shown to provide useful information about the annihilation contributions and possible tests of factorization.
A way to explain the puzzling difference between the pion form factor as measured in e+ e- annihilations and in tau decays is discussed. We show that isospin symmetry breaking, beside the already identified effects, produces also a full mixing between the rho0, omega and phi mesons which generates an isospin 0 component inside the rho0 meson. This effect, not accounted for in current treatments of the problem, seems able to account for the apparent mismatch between e+ e- and tau data below the phi mass.
We propose to measure the decay asymmetry parameters in the hadronic weak decays of singly charmed baryons, such as $\ldc\to\ldπ^+,Σ^0π^+,p \bar K_0$, $Ξ_c^0\toΞ^-π^+$ and $Ω_c^0\toΩ^-π^+$. The joint angular formulae for these processes are presented, and are used to extract the asymmetry parameters in $\ee$ annihilation data. Base on the current $\ldc$ data set collected at BESIII, we estimate the experimental sensitivities to measure the parameters $α_{\ldπ^+}$ for $\ldc\to\ldπ^+$, $α_{Σ^+π^0}$ for $\ldc\toΣ^+π^0$ and $α_{\usigπ^+}$ for $\ldc\to\usigπ^+$.
A class of meson decay modes sensitive to only one quark topology at leading G_F order (annihilation of valence quarks through a W) is described. No experimental observations, nor even upper limits, have been reported for these decays. This work presents a simpleminded (order-of-magnitude) calculation of their branching fractions, and compares to results of previous calculations where available. Although rare, one of these modes (D_s^+ --> rho^+ gamma) might already be observable at charm experiments, two others (D^+ --> K^{*+} gamma, B^+ --> D_s^{*+} gamma) should appear at the B factories, a…
I discuss contributions to the diffuse gamma-ray background from decay and annihilation of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs). I first review the calculation of the cosmological abundance of a WIMP and show that it is simply related to the cross section for annihilation of the WIMP into lighter particles. The diffuse extragalactic background radiation (DEBRA) from WIMP decay is then discussed. I show how observational upper limits to the DEBRA can be used to constrain properties of WIMPs that decay to photons, and I present additional new constraints that unitarity of the annihilatio…
