The channel $D_s^+\to p\bar n$ is the only kinematically allowed baryonic D decay. It proceeds solely through the W-annihilation topology. Hence, a recent observation of this mode by CLEO will shed light on the dynamics of W-annihilation. At the short-distance level, its branching ratio is very small, of order $10^{-6}$, owing to chiral suppression. It receives long-distance contributions through final-state scattering of the leading tree and color-suppressed amplitudes. Assuming that the long-distance enhancement of W-annihilation in the baryonic D decay is similar to that in the mesonic $D_s^+$ decay, where the latter can be obtained from the analysis of the diagrammatic approach, we find that $D_s^+\to p\bar n$ becomes visible. The observation of this baryonic D decay implies the dynamical enhancement of the W-annihilation topology in the $D_s^+$ decay.
The status of exclusive two-body and three-body baryonic B decays is reviewed. The threshold peaking effect in baryon pair invariant mass is stressed and explained. Weak radiative baryonic B decays mediated by the electromagnetic penguin process are discussed.
Though not considered in general, purely baryonic decays could shed light on the puzzle of the baryon number asymmetry in the universe by means of a better understanding of the baryonic nature of our matter world. As such, they constitute a yet unexplored class of decay processes worth investigating. We propose to search for purely baryonic decay processes at the LHCb experiment. No such type of decay has ever been observed. In particular, we concentrate on the decay $Λ_b^0\to p\bar pn$, which is the simplest purely baryonic decay mode, with solely spin-1/2 baryons involved. We predict its dec…
An overview of exclusive two-body and three-body baryonic B decays is given. The threshold enhancement effect in the dibaryon invariant mass and the angular distributions in the dibaryon rest frame are stressed and explained. Weak radiative baryonic B decays mediated by the electromagnetic penguin process $b\to sγ$ are discussed. Apart from the first observation of the radiative penguin decay $B^-\toΛ\bar pγ$ with the baryonic final state, the decay $B^-\to Ξ^0\barΣ^-γ$ at the level of $6\times 10^{-7}$ may be accessible to B factories in the near future.
We examine the validity of the generalized factorization method and calculate the angular correlations in the charmful three-body baryonic decays of $\bar B^0\to Λ\bar p D^{(*)+}$. With the timelike baryonic form factors newly extracted from the measured baryonic $B$ decays, we obtain ${\cal B}(\bar B^0\to Λ\bar p D^+,Λ\bar p D^{*+})=(1.85\pm 0.30,2.75\pm 0.24)\times 10^{-5}$ to agree with the recent data from the BELLE Collaboration, which demonstrates that the theoretical approach based on the factorization still works well. For the angular distribution asymmetries, we find ${\cal A}_θ(\bar …
In this short note we examine the exclusive three-body B --> Lambdabar p eta' decay using a simple pole model involving a scalar intermediate resonance state. Our aim is to test the recently formulated hypothesis that charmless baryonic B decays could occur mainly in association with eta' or gamma.
We study the charmful three-body baryonic B decays with $D^{(*)}$ or $J/Ψ$ in the final state. We explain the measured rates of $\bar B^0\to n\bar p D^{*+}$, $\bar B^0\to p\bar p D^{(*)0}$, and $B^-\to Λ\bar p J/Ψ$. In particular, the branching fraction of $\bar B^0\toΛ\bar ΛD^0$ predicted to be of order $2.3\times 10^{-6}$ is in accordance with the Belle measurement, $(1.05^{+0.57}_{-0.44}\pm 0.14)\times 10^{-5}<2.6\times 10^{-5}$.
The status of exclusive two-body and three-body baryonic B decays is reviewed. The threshold enhancement effect in the dibaryon invariant mass and the angular distributions in the dibaryon rest frame are stressed and explained. Weak radiative baryonic B decays mediated by the electromagnetic penguin process $b\to sγ$ are discussed. Puzzles with the correlation observed in $B^-\to p\bar pK^-$ decay and the unexpectedly large rate observed for $B\toΛ_c\barΛ_cK$ are examined. The former may indicate that the $p\bar p$ system is produced through some intermediate states, while the latter implies t…
Weak radiative baryonic B decays $B\to\B_1\ov \B_2γ$ mediated by the electromagnetic penguin process $b\to sγ$ have appreciable rates larger than their two-body counterparts $B\to\B_1\ov \B_2$. The branching ratios for $B^-\toΛ\bar pγ$ and $B^-\toΞ^0\barΣ^-γ$ are sizable, falling into the range of $(1\sim 6)\times 10^{-6}$ with the value preferred to be on the large side, and not far from the bottom baryon radiative decays $Λ_b\toΛγ$ and $Ξ_b\toΞγ$ due to the large short-distance enhancement for $b\to sγ$ penguin transition and the large strong coupling of the anti-triplet bottom baryons with …
The LHCb collaboration has presented first experimental evidence that spin-carrying matter and antimatter differ. The study looked at four-body decays of the $Λ_b^0$ baryon. Differences in the behaviour of matter and antimatter are associated with the non-invariance of fundamental interactions under the combined charge-conjugation and parity transformations, known as $C\!P$ violation. We discuss purely baryonic decay processes, i.e. decay processes involving only spin-carrying particles. They are yet unexplored elementary processes. Their study opens a new chapter of flavour physics in the rou…
We study the four-body baryonic $B\to {\bf B_1 \bar B_2}M_1 M_2$ decays with $\bf B_{1,2}$ ($M_{1,2}$) being charmless baryons (mesons). In accordance with the recent LHCb observations, each decay is considered to proceed through the $B\to M_1 M_2$ transition together with the production of a baryon pair. We obtain that ${\cal B}(B^-\to Λ\bar p π^+π^-)=(3.7^{+1.5}_{-1.0} )\times 10^{-6}$ and ${\cal B}(\bar B^0\to p\bar p π^+π^-,p\bar p π^+ K^-)=(3.0\pm 0.9,6.6\pm 2.4)\times 10^{-6}$, in agreement with the data. We also predict ${\cal B}(B^-\toΛ\bar p K^+ K^-)=(3.0^{+1.3}_{-0.9})\times 10^{-6}$…
We study for the first time the three-body charmless baryonic decays $\bar B^0_s\to \bar p ΛM^+ (p \bar ΛM^-)$, with $M=π, K$. We find that the branching ratios of $\bar B^0_s\to (\bar p ΛK^+$ and $p\bar ΛK^-)$ and $\bar B^0_s\to p\bar Λπ^-$ are $(5.1\pm 1.1)\times 10^{-6}$ and $(2.8\pm 1.5)\times 10^{-7}$, respectively, which agree with recent experimental results reported by the LHCb collaboration. In addition, we derive the relations \mbox{${\cal B}(\bar B^0_s\to \bar p ΛK^+)\simeq (f_K/f_π)^2(τ_{B^0_s}/τ_{B^0}) {\cal B}(\bar B^0\to \bar p Λπ^+)$} and ${\cal B}(\bar B^0_s\to p\bar Λπ^-)/{\c…
We study the two-body and three-body charmful baryonic B decays: $\bar B^0\to Λ_c\bar p$ and $\bar B\to Λ_c \bar pπ(ρ)$. The factorizable W-exchange contribution to $\bar B^0\toΛ_c\bar p$ is negligible. Applying the bag model to evaluate the baryon-to-baryon weak transition matrix element, we find $B(\bar B^0\toΛ_c\bar p)\leq 1.1\times 10^{-5}|g_{B^0pΣ_b^+}/6|^2$ with $g_{B^0pΣ_b^+}$ being a strong coupling for the decay $Σ_b^+\to \bar B^0 p$ and hence the predicted branching ratio is well below the current experimental limit. The factorizable contributions to $B^-\toΛ_c\bar pπ^-$ can account …
We study the three-body baryonic B decay $\bar{B}^{0}_{s}\rightarrow p\barΛ K^{-}$ within the framework of the pole model via the baryonic $Λ_{b}$ pole. In our calculation, we require the strong coupling constant $g_{Λ_{b}B_{s}Λ}$ and investigate if $g_{Λ_{b}B_{s}Λ}=10.49\pm1.57$ is adopted, the branching ratio agrees with the experimental result, reported by the LHCb collaboration.
The baryonic decays of $J/ ψ$ provide a new way to study the internal structure of baryons. A simple diquark model applied to the calculation of the $\bar{B}B$ decay cross-sections is compared with the ordinary constituent quark model. Various models also give different predictions for the rates involving the $N^{\ast}(1440)$ resonance in the final state.
The baryonic decays of $J/ ψ$ provide a new way to study the internal structure of baryons. We apply a simple diquark model to the calculation of the decay cross-sections for the reactions $J/ ψ\longrightarrow \bar{p}p$, $\bar pN^*(1440)$, $\bar{N}^{\ast}N^{\ast}$, $\barΛΛ$ and $\barΣ^0Σ^0$. The results are different from those given by the ordinary constituent quark model. Hence these reactions may provide a new check of two different pictures for the baryons.
We study charmless two-body baryonic B decays in a diagramatic approach. Relations on decay amplitudes are obtained. In general there are more than one tree and more than one penguin amplitudes. The number of independent amplitudes can be reduced in the large m_B limit. It leads to more predictive results. Some prominent modes for experimental searches are pointed out.
We study the charmful three-body baryonic B decays with $D^{(*)}$ or $J/Ψ$ in the final state. We explain the measured rates of $\bar B^0\to n\bar p D^{*+}$, $\bar B^0\to p\bar p D^{(*)0}$, and $B^-\to Λ\bar p J/Ψ$ and predict the branching fractions of $\bar B^0\to Λ\bar p D^{*+}$, $\bar B^0\to Σ^0\bar p D^{*+}$, $B^-\toΛ\bar p D^{0}$, and $B^-\toΛ\bar p D^{*0}$ to be of order $(1.2, 1.1, 1.1, 3.9)\times 10^{-5}$, respectively. They are readily accessible to the $B$ factories.
We study the three-body baryonic decay $ \bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΛ^+_c \bar{p} π^0$ based on the factorization approach. The most important Feynman diagrams for this decay mode are factorizable and non-factorizable contributions, so that the former plays the key role in the decay amplitude and the latter affects the amplitude coefficient $a_2$. We calculate the decay branching ratio for some values of $a_2$ in the range of $0.16-0.40$ and we find that the value of $a_2=0.17$ leads us to the result of $(1.50\pm0.21)\times10^{-4}$ which evidently agrees with the experimental result $(1.55\pm0.17\p…
We point out new ways to search for charmless baryonic B decays: baryon pair production in association with $η^\prime$ is very likely as large as or even a bit larger than two body $Kπ/ππ$ modes. We extend our argument, in weaker form, to $B\to γ+ X_s$ and $\ellν+X$. Although calculations are not reliable, estimates give branching ratios of order $10^{-5}$--$10^{-6}$, where confidence is gained from recent experimental finding that $B \to D^{*} p \bar n$, $D^{*} p \bar p π$ are not far below $D^*π$ and $D^*ρ$ rates. Observation of charmless baryon modes would help clarify the dynamics of weak …
We review the direct CP and T violation in the three-body baryonic B decays in the standard model. In particular, we emphasize that the direct CP violating asymmetry in $B^\pm\to p\bar p K^{*\pm}$ is around 22% and the direct $T$ violating asymmetry in $\bar B^0 \ra Λ\bar p π^+$ can be as large as 12%, which are accessible to the current B factories at KEK and SLAC as well as SuperB and LHCb.
We study the structure-dependent contributions to the radiative baryonic $B$ decays of $B \to {\bf B}{\bf \bar B'}γ$ in the standard model. We show that the decay branching ratios of $Br(B \to {\bf B}{\bf \bar B'}γ)$ are $O(10^{-7})$, which are larger than the estimated values of $O(10^{-9})$ induced from inner bremsstrahlung effects of the corresponding two-body modes. In particular, we find that $Br(B^- \to Λ\bar p γ)$ is around $1 \times 10^{-6}$, which is close to the pole model estimation but smaller than the experimental measurement from BELLE.
Motivated by recent data on B-> p pbar K decay, we study various charmless three-body baryonic B decay modes, including Lambda pbar pi, Sigma0 pbar pi, p pbar pi, p pbar Kbar0, in a factorization approach. These modes have rates of order 10^{-6}. There are two mechanisms for the baryon pair production, current-produced and transition. The behavior of decay spectra from these baryon production mechanisms can be understood by using QCD counting rules. Predictions on rates and decay spectra can be checked in the near future.
We study $T$ violation in the three-body charmless baryonic decay of $\bar B^0 \ra Λ\bar p π^+$ through the $T$-odd triple product correlation in the standard model. We find that the $T$ violating asymmetry is 10%, which is accessible to the current B factories at KEK and SLAC, while the CP violating one 1.1%. We emphasize that this triple product correlation would be the first measurable direct $T$ violating effect predicted in the standard model.
It is the first time that the study of three-body baryonic B decays offers an independent determination of the nucleon form factors for the time-like four momentum transfer $(t>0)$ region, such as $G^{p,n}_M(t)$ of vector currents and those of axial ones. Explicitly, from the data of $\bar B^0\to n\bar p D^{*+}$ and $Λ\bar pπ^+$ we find a constant ratio of $G^n_M(t)/G^p_M(t)=-1.3\pm0.4$, which supports the FENICE experimental result. The vector and axial-vector form factors of $p\bar n$, $p\bar p$ and $n\bar n$ pairs due to weak currents are also presented, which can be tested in future experi…
We discuss non-Gaussianity and baryonic isocurvature fluctuations in the curvaton scenario, assuming that the baryon asymmetry of the universe originates only from the decay products of the inflaton. When large non-Gaussianity is realized in such a scenario, non-vanishing baryonic isocurvature fluctuations can also be generated unless the baryogenesis occurs after the decay of the curvaton. We calculate the non-linearity parameter f_NL and the baryonic isocurvature fluctuations, taking account of the primordial fluctuations of both the inflaton and the curvaton. We show that, although current …
We study the baryonic fluctuations from second to eighth order involving electric charge, baryon number and strangeness below the quark-gluon plasma crossover and numerically known from lattice QCD calculations. By considering a particular realization of the Hadron Resonance Gas model, we provide evidence on the dominant role of quark-diquark degrees of freedom to describe excited baryonic resonances. After proving by means of suitable Polyakov loop correlators that the quark-diquark and the quark-antiquark forces coincide, $V_{\bar q q } (r) = V_{\bar q D } (r) + \textrm{const}$, we find that…
