We seek multi-order exact solutions of a generalized shallow water wave equation along with those corresponding to a class of nonlinear systems described by the KdV, modified KdV, Boussinesq, Klein-Gordon and modified Benjamin-Bona-Mahony equation. We employ a modified version of a generalized Lame equation and subject it to a perturbative treatment identifying the solutions order by order in terms of Jacobi elliptic functions. Our multi-order exact solutions are new and hold the key feature that they are expressible in terms of an auxiliary function f in a generic way. For appropriate choices of f we recover the previous results reported in the literature.
We show that the two-dimensional, nonlinear Schrödinger lattice with a saturable nonlinearity admits periodic and pulse-like exact solutions. We establish the general formalism for the stability considerations of these solutions and give examples of stability diagrams. Finally, we show that the effective Peierls-Nabarro barrier for the pulse-like soliton solution is zero.
One of old methods for finding exact solutions of nonlinear differential equations is considered. Modifications of the method are discussed. Application of the method is illustrated for finding exact solutions of the Fisher equation and nonlinear ordinary differential equation of the seven order. It is shown that the method is one of the most effective approaches for finding exact solutions of nonlinear differential equations. Merits and demerits of the method are discussed.
The compact explicit expressions for formal exact operator solutions to Cauchy problem for sufficiently general systems of nonlinear differential equations (ODEs and PDEs) in the form of chronological operator exponents are given. The variant of exact solutions in the form of ordinary (without chronologization) operator exponents are proposed.
A method is given to construct globally analytic (in space and time) exact solutions to the focusing cubic nonlinear Schrodinger equation on the line. An explicit formula and its equivalents are presented to express such exact solutions in a compact form in terms of matrix exponentials. Such exact solutions can alternatively be written explicitly as algebraic combinations of exponential, trigonometric, and polynomial functions of the spatial and temporal coordinates.
Direct algebraic method of obtaining exact solutions to nonlinear PDE's is applied to certain set of nonlinear nonlocal evolutionary equations, including nonlinear telegraph equation, hyperbolic generalization of Burgers equation and some spatially nonlocal hydrodynamic-type model. Special attention is paid to the construction of the kink-like and soliton-like solutions.
The (1+1)-dimensional nonlinear boundary value problem, modeling the process of melting and evaporation of metals, is studied by means of the classical Lie symmetry method. All possible Lie operators of the nonlinear heat equation, which allow us to reduce the problem to the boundary value problem for the system of ordinary differential equations, are found. The forms of heat conductivity coefficients are established when the given problem can be analytically solved in an explicit form.
We consider construction of ansatzes for nonlinear Schrodinger equations in three space dimensions and arbitrary nonlinearity, and conditions of their reduction to ordinary differential equations. Complete description of ansatzes of certain types is presented. We also discuss the relationship between solutions, and both Lie and conditional symmetry of these equations.
The present preprint is dedicated to a nonlinear evolution equation that generalizes the classical Heisenberg ferromagnet equation in certain way. That generalization is completely integrable and has a linear bundle Lax pair in pole gauge related to the special linear algebra. A few reductions of the generic matrix equation are considered.
Systems of hydrodynamic type equations derived from the Navier-Stokes equations and the boundary layer equations are considered. A transformation of the Crocco type reducing the equation order for the longitudinal velocity component is described. The issues of nonlinear stability of the obtained solutions are studied. It is found that a specific feature of many solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations is instability. The nonlinear instability of solutions is proved by a new exact method, which may be useful for the analysis of other nonlinear physical models and phenomena.
We treat the stationary (cubic) nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NSLE) on simplest graphs. Formulation of the problem and exact analytical solutions of NLSE are presented for star graphs consisting of three bonds. It is shown that the method can be extended for the case of arbitrary number of bonds of star graphs and for other simplest topologies such as tree and loop graphs. The case of repulsive and attractive nonlinearities are treated separately.

For the 2D and 3D Euler equations, their existing exact solutions are often in linear form with respect to variables x,y,z. In this paper, the Clarkson-Kruskal reduction method is applied to reduce the 2D incompressible Euler equations to a system of completely solvable ordinary equations, from which several novel nonlinear exact solutions with respect to the variables x and y are found.
We study nonlinear pantograph-type reaction-diffusion PDEs, which, in addition to the unknown $u=u(x,t)$, also contain the same functions with dilated or contracted arguments of the form $w=u(px,t)$, $w=u(x,qt)$, and $w=u(px,qt)$, where $p$ and $q$ are the free scaling parameters (for equations with proportional delay we have $0<p<1$, $0<q<1$). A brief review of publications on pantograph-type ODEs and PDEs and their applications is given. Exact solutions and reductions of various types of such nonlinear partial functional differential equations are described for the first time. We present exa…
The concept of quasi-exact solutions of nonlinear differential equations is introduced. Quasi-exact solution expands the idea of exact solution for additional values of parameters of differential equation. These solutions are approximate solutions of nonlinear differential equations but they are close to exact solutions. Quasi-exact solutions of the the Kuramoto--Sivashinsky, the Korteweg--de Vries--Burgers and the Kawahara equations are founded.
The modification of simplest equation method to look for exact solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations is presented. Using this method we obtain exact solutions of generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation with cubic source and exact solutions of third-order Kudryashov-Sinelshchikov equation describing nonlinear waves in liquids with gas bubbles.
New method for finding exact solutions of nonlinear differential equations is presented. It is based on constructing the polygon corresponding to the equation studied. The algorithms of power geometry are used. The method is applied for finding one -- parameter exact solutions of the generalized Korteveg -- de Vries -- Burgers equation, the generalized Kuramoto - Sivashinsky equation, and the fifth -- order nonlinear evolution equation. All these nonlinear equations contain the term $u^mu_x$. New exact solitary waves are found.

The application of the Kudryashov method for finding exact solutions of the high order nonlinear evolution equations is considered. Some classes of solitary wave solutions for the families of nonlinear evolution equations of fifth, sixth and seventh order are obtained. The efficiency of the Kudryashov method for finding exact solutions of the high order nonlinear evolution equations is demonstrated.
Recently, finding exact solutions of nonlinear fractional differential equations has attracted great interest. In this paper, the space time-fractional Klein-Gordon equation with cubic nonlinearities is examined. Firstly, suitable exact soliton solutions are formally extacted by using the solitary wave ansatz method. Some solutions are also illustrated by the computer simulations. Besides, the modified Kudryashov method is used to construct exact solutions of this equation.
We study a new quintic discrete nonlinear Schrödinger (QDNLS) equation which reduces naturally to an interesting symmetric difference equation of the form $ϕ_{n+1}+ϕ_{n-1}=F(ϕ_n)$. Integrability of the symmetric mapping is checked by singularity confinement criteria and growth properties. Some new exact localized solutions for integrable cases are presented for certain sets of parameters. Although these exact localized solutions represent only a small subset of the large variety of possible solutions admitted by the QDNLS equation, those solutions presented here are the first example of exact …

New problem is studied that is to find nonlinear differential equations with special solutions expressed via the Weierstrass function. Method is discussed to construct nonlinear ordinary differential equations with exact solutions. Main step of our method is the assumption that nonlinear differential equations have exact solutions which are general solution of the simplest integrable equation. We use the Weierstrass elliptic equation as a building block to find a number of nonlinear differential equations with exact solutions. Nonlinear differential equations of the second, third and fourth or…
We investigate the dynamics of the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation in fully connected networks. For a localized initial condition the exact solution shows the existence of two dynamical transitions as a function of the nonlinearity parameter, a hyperbolic and a trigonometric one. In the latter the network behaves exactly as the corresponding linear one but with a renormalized frequency.
The generalization of the simplest equation method to look for exact solutions of systems of nonlinear differential equations is presented. The exact solutions of NDE systems describing the evolution of two interacting populations in two cases (both populations have the low critical density or low critical density is typical for only one of populations) are obtained.
Using Lie group theory and canonical transformations, we construct explicit solutions of nonlinear Schrodinger equations with spatially inhomogeneous nonlinearities. We present the general theory, use it to study different examples and use the qualitative theory of dynamical systems to obtain some properties of these solutions.

Various examples of exact solutions with constant, trigonometric function type, exponential function type and rational function amplitude are given upon careful analysis. A bifurcation phenomenon in the nonlinear Schroedinger equation is clea…
A new method named rational expansion method of exponent function is presented to find exact traveling wave solutions of differential-difference equations. This method generalizes the so-called tanh-method and other similar methods. Some examples are dealt with and their abundant exact solutions which include solitary solutions and periodic solutions are obtained. Among them, many solutions are new.
We present exact analytical bright and dark (black and grey) solitary wave solutions of a nonlinear Schrodinger-type equation describing the propagation of spatial beams in media exhibiting a saturable nonlinearity (such as centrosymmetric photorefractive materials). A qualitative study of the stationary equation is carried out together with a discussion of the stability of the solutions.
We present a short review of the evolution of the methodology of the Method of simplest equation for obtaining exact particular solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations (NPDEs) and the recent extension of a version of this methodology called Modified method of simplest equation. This extension makes the methodology capable to lead to solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations that are more complicated than a single solitary wave.
We investigate the existence of exact solutions in closed form to a fractional version of the nonlinear Boussinesq equation for groundwater flow through an unconfined aquifer. We show this fractional equation appears naturally when the classical nonlinear Darcy's law is replaced by a space-fractional one. After a physical discussion on the fractional model, we give several exact solutions in closed form for special choices of initial and boundary data. We provide solutions for steady and unsteady cases, by considering both classical and fractional derivatives in time.
Using similarity transformations we construct explicit solutions of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation with linear and nonlinear periodic potentials. We present explicit forms of spatially localized and periodic solutions, and study their properties. We put our results in the framework of the exploited perturbation techniques and discuss their implications on the properties of associated linear periodic potentials and on the possibilities of stabilization of gap solitons using polychromatic lattices.
We study dynamics of two coupled periodically driven oscillators. The internal motion is separated off exactly to yield a nonlinear fourth-order equation describing inner dynamics. Periodic steady-state solutions of the fourth-order equation are determined within the Krylov-Bogoliubov-Mitropolsky approach - we compute the amplitude profiles, which from mathematical point of view are algebraic curves. In the present paper we investigate metamorphoses of amplitude profiles induced by changes of control parameters near singular points of these curves. It follows that dynamics changes qualitativel…

Nonlinear waves are studied in a mixture of liquid and gas bubbles. Influence of viscosity and heat transfer is taken into consideration on propagation of the pressure waves. Nonlinear evolution equations of the second and the third order for describing nonlinear waves in gas-liquid mixtures are derived. Exact solutions of these nonlinear evolution equations are found. Properties of nonlinear waves in a liquid with gas bubbles are discussed.
The features of propagation of intense waves are of great interest for theory and experiment in electrodynamics and acoustics. The behavior of nonlinear waves in a bounded volume is of especial importance and, at the same time, is an extremely complicated problem. It seems almost impossible to find a rigorous solution to such a problem even for any model of nonlinearity. We obtain the first exact solution of this type. We present a new method for deriving exact solutions of the Maxwell equations in a nonlinear medium without dispersion and give examples of the obtained solutions that describe …
Invariants of nonlinear gauge transformations of a family of nonlinear Schrödinger equations proposed by Doebner and Goldin are used to characterize the behaviour of exact solutions of these equations.
A certain symmetry is exploited in expressing exact solutions to the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation in terms of a triplet of constant matrices. Consequently, for any number of bound states with any number of multiplicities the corresponding soliton solutions are explicitly written in a compact form in terms of a matrix triplet. Conversely, from such a soliton solution the corresponding transmission coefficients, bound-state poles, bound-state norming constants and Jost solutions for the associated Zakharov-Shabat system are evaluated explicitly. It is also shown that these results hol…

We analyze the common errors of the recent papers in which the solitary wave solutions of nonlinear differential equations are presented. Seven common errors are formulated and classified. These errors are illustrated by using multiple examples of the common errors from the recent publications. We show that many popular methods in finding of the exact solutions are equivalent each other. We demonstrate that some authors look for the solitary wave solutions of nonlinear ordinary differential equations and do not take into account the well - known general solutions of these equations. We illustr…
We use a fractional transformation to connect the traveling wave solutions of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE), phase-locked with a source, to the elliptic functions satisfying, $f^{\prime\prime}\pm af\pm λf^{3}=0$. The solutions are {\it necessarily} of the rational form, containing both trigonometric and hyperbolic types as special cases. Bright, and dark solitons, respectively, for attractive and repuslive type of nonlinearities, as also singular solitons, are obtained in suitable range of parameter values.
In this paper we use a similarity transformation connecting some families of Nonlinear Schrodinger equations with time-varying coefficients with the autonomous cubic nonlinear Schrodinger equation. This transformation allows one to apply all known results for that equation to the non-autonomous case with the additional dynamics introduced by the transformation itself. In particular, using stationary solutions of the autonomous nonlinear Schrodinger equation we can construct exact breathing solutions to multidimensional non-autonomous nonlinear Schrodinger equations. An application is given in …
A review of a recent method is presented to construct certain exact solutions to the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation on the line with a cubic nonlinearity. With motivation by the inverse scattering transform and help from the state-space method, an explicit formula is obtained to express such exact solutions in a compact form in terms of a matrix triplet and by using matrix exponentials. Such solutions consist of multisolitons with any multiplicities, are analytic on the entire $xt$-plane, decay exponentially as $x\to\pm\infty$ at each fixed $t,$ and can alternatively be written explic…
We present the exact bright one-soliton and two-soliton solutions of the integrable three coupled nonlinear Schroedinger equations (3-CNLS) by using the Hirota method, and then obtain them for the general $N$-coupled nonlinear Schroedinger equations (N-CNLS). It is pointed out that the underlying solitons undergo inelastic (shape changing) collisions due to intensity redistribution among the modes. We also analyse the various possibilities and conditions for such collisions to occur. Further, we report the significant fact that the various partial coherent solitons (PCS) discussed in the liter…
A modified method of functional constraints is used to construct the exact solutions of nonlinear equations of reaction-diffusion type with delay and which are associated with variable coefficients. This study considers a most generalized form of nonlinear equations of reaction-diffusion type with delay and which are nonlinear and associated with variable coefficients. A novel technique is used in this study to obtain the exact solutions which are new and are of the form of traveling-wave solutions. Arbitrary functions are present in the solutions and they also contain free parameters, which m…
We consider solutions of the defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation on the half-line whose Dirichlet and Neumann boundary values become periodic for sufficiently large $t$. We prove a theorem which, modulo certain assumptions, characterizes the pairs of periodic functions which can arise as Dirichlet and Neumann values for large $t$ in this way. The theorem also provides a constructive way of determining explicit solutions with the given periodic boundary values. Hence our approach leads to a class of new exact solutions of the defocusing NLS equation on the half-line.
The outlook of a simple method to generate localized (soliton-like) potentials of time-dependent Schrodinger type equations is given. The conditions are discussed for the potentials to be real and nonsingular. For the derivative Schrodinger equation also is discussed its relation to the Ishimori-II model. Some pecular soliton solutions of nonlinear Schrodinger type equations are given and discussed.
A relative motion of the normal and superfluid components of Helium II results in Kelvin-Helmholtz instability (KHI) at their common free surface. We found the exact solutions for the nonlinear stage of the development of that instability. Contrary to the usual KHI of the interface between two fluids, the dynamics of Helium II free surface allows decoupling of the governing equations with their reduction to the Laplace growth equation which has the infinite number of exact solutions including the formation of sharp cusps at free surface in a finite time.
Algorithms are presented for the tanh- and sech-methods, which lead to closed-form solutions of nonlinear ordinary and partial differential equations (ODEs and PDEs). New algorithms are given to find exact polynomial solutions of ODEs and PDEs in terms of Jacobi's elliptic functions. For systems with parameters, the algorithms determine the conditions on the parameters so that the differential equations admit polynomial solutions in tanh, sech, combinations thereof, Jacobi's sn or cn functions. Examples illustrate key steps of the algorithms. The new algorithms are implemented in Mathematica. …
