We discuss a very general Kirillov Theory for the representations of certain nilpotent groups which gives a combined view an many known examples from the literature.
We give a direct proof for the positivity of Kirillov's character on the convolution algebra of smooth, compactly supported functions on a connected, simply connected nilpotent Lie group $G$. Then we use this positivity result to construct a representation of $G\times G$ and establish a $G\times G$-equivariant isometric isomorphism between our representation and the Hilbert--Schmidt operators on the underlying representation of $G$. In fact, we provide a more general framework in which we establish the positivity of Kirillov's character for coadjoint orbits of groups such as $\operatorname{SL}…
We determine the Lie subalgebra $\mathfrak{g}_{nil}$ of a Borcherds symmetrizable generalized Kac-Moody Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ generated by $ad$-locally nilpotent elements and show that it is `essentially' the same as the Levi subalgebra of $\mathfrak{g}$ with its simple roots precisely the real simple roots of $\mathfrak{g}$.
We present a complete list of groups $G$ and fields $F$ for which: (i) the group of normalized units V(FG) of the group algebra FG is locally nilpotent; (ii) the group algebra FG has a finite number of nilpotent elements and V(FG) is an Engel group.
We study the topology of orbits of dynamical systems defined by finite-dimensional representations of nilpotent Lie groups. Thus, the following dichotomy is established: either the interior of the set of regular points is dense in the representation space, or the complement of the set of regular points is dense, and then the interior of that complement is either empty or dense in the representation space. The regular points are by definition the points whose orbits are locally compact in their relative topology. We thus generalize some results from the recent literature on linear actions of ab…
Let $\mathfrak{n}$ be a locally nilpotent infinite-dimensional Lie algebra over $\mathbb{C}$. Let $\mathrm{U}(\mathfrak{n})$ and $\mathrm{S}(\mathfrak{n})$ be its universal enveloping algebra and its symmetric algebra respectively. Consider the Jacobson topology on the primitive spectrum of $\mathrm{U}(\mathfrak{n})$ and the Poisson topology on the primitive Poisson spectrum of $\mathrm{S}(\mathfrak{n})$. We provide a homeomorphism between the corresponding topological spaces (on the level of points, it gives a bijection between the primitive ideals of $\mathrm{U}(\mathfrak{n})$ and $\mathrm{S…
We study finite dimensional representations over some Noetherian algebras over a field of characteristic zero. More precisely, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the category of locally finite dimensional representations to be closed under taking injective hulls and extend results known for group rings and enveloping algebras to Ore extensions, Hopf crossed products and affine Hopf algebras of low Gelfand-Kirillov dimension.
Given a finite group $\mathrm{G}$ and a field $K$, the faithful dimension of $\mathrm{G}$ over $K$ is defined to be the smallest integer $n$ such that $\mathrm{G}$ embeds into $\mathrm{GL}_n(K)$. In this paper we address the problem of determining the faithful dimension of a $p$-group of the form $\mathscr{G}_q:=\exp(\mathfrak{g} \otimes_\mathbb{Z}\mathbb{F}_q)$ associated to $\mathfrak{g}_q:=\mathfrak{g} \otimes_\mathbb{Z}\mathbb{F}_q$ in the Lazard correspondence, where $\mathfrak{g}$ is a nilpotent $\mathbb{Z}$-Lie algebra which is finitely generated as an abelian group. We show that in gen…
We prove that the number of irreducible real characters in a nilpotent block of a finite group is locally determined. We further conjecture that the Frobenius-Schur indicators of those characters can be computed for p=2 in terms of the extended defect group. We derive this from a more general conjecture on the Frobenius-Schur indicator of projective indecomposable characters of 2-blocks with one simple module. This extends results of Murray on 2-blocks with cyclic and dihedral defect groups.
Let $\mathcal{N}_{\mathfrak{g}^*}$ be the variety of nilpotent elements in the dual of the Lie algebra of a reductive algebraic group over an algebraically closed field. In \cite{Lu2} Lusztig proposes a definition of a partition of $\mathcal{N}_{\mathfrak{g}^*}$ into smooth locally closed subvarieties (which are indexed by the unipotent classes in the corresponding group over complex numbers) and gives explicit results in types $A$, $C$ and $D$. We discuss type $B$ in this note.
The minimal representation of a semisimple Lie group is a 'small' infinite-dimensional irreducible unitary representation. It is thought to correspond to the minimal nilpotent coadjoint orbit in Kirillov's orbit philosophy. The Segal-Bargmann transform is an intertwining integral transformation between two different models of the minimal representation for Hermitian Lie groups of tube type. In this paper we construct a Fock model for the minimal representation of the orthosymplectic Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{osp}(m,2|2n)$. We also construct an integral transform which intertwines the Schrödi…
