A sharp bound on the number of invariant components of an interval exchange transformation is provided. More precisely, it is proved that the number of periodic components n_per and the number of minimal components n_min of an interval exchange transformation of n intervals satisfy n_per+2 n_min\le n. Besides, it is shown that almost all interval exchange transformations are typical, that is, have all the periodic components stable and all the minimal components robust (i.e. persistent under almost all small perturbations). Finally, we find all the possible values for the integer vector (n_per, n_min) for all typical interval exchange transformation of n intervals.
We prove linear upper and lower bounds for the Hausdorff dimension set of minimal interval exchange transformations with flips (in particular without periodic points), and a linear lower bound for the Hausdorff dimension of the set of non-uniquely ergodic minimal interval exchange transformations with flips.

We prove that irreducible, linearly recurrent, type W interval exchange transformations are always mild mixing. For every irreducible permutation the set of linearly recurrent interval exchange transformations has full Hausdorff dimension.
We show that minimal shifts with zero topological entropy are topologically conjugate to interval exchange transformations, generally infinite. When these shifts have linear factor complexity (linear block growth), the conjugate interval exchanges are proved to satisfy strong finiteness properties.
In this article we provide sufficient conditions on a self-similar interval exchange map, whose renormalization matrix has complex eigenvalues of modulus greater than one, for the existence of affine interval exchange maps with wandering intervals and semi-conjugate with it. These conditions are based on the algebraic properties of the complex eigenvalues and the complex fractals built from the natural substitution emerging from self-similarity. We show that the cubic Arnoux-Yoccoz interval exchange map satisfies these conditions.

Irreducible interval exchange transformations are studied with regard to whirly property, a condition for non-trivial spatial factor. Uniformly whirly transformation is defined and to be further studied. An equivalent condition is introduced for whirly transformation. We will prove that almost all 3-interval exchange transformations are whirly, using a combinatorics approach with application of the Rauzy-Veech Induction. It is still an open question whether whirly property is a generic property for m-interval exchange transformations (m>=4).

For irreducible interval exchange transformations, we study the relation between the powers of induced map and the induced maps of powers and raise a condition of equivalence between them. And skew production of Rauzy induction map is set up and verified to be ergodic regard to a product measure. Then we prove that almost all the interval exchange transformations are totally rank one (rank one for all powers of positive integers) by interval. As a corollary, for almost all interval exchange transformations, rank one transformations are dense $G_δ$ in the weak closure.
Starting from any pseudo-Anosov map $φ$ on a surface of genus $g \geqslant 2$, we construct explicitly a family of Derived from pseudo-Anosov maps $f$ by adapting the construction of Smale's Derived from Anosov maps on the two-torus. We look at interval exchange transformations defined as first return maps on the set of diagonals of a flow of direction $θ$ on a square-tiled surface: using a combinatorial approach, we show that, when the surface has at least one true singularity both the flow and the interval exchange are rigid if and only if tan $θ$ has bounded partial quotients. The Arnoux-Rauzy systems are defined in \cite{ar}, both as symbolic systems on three letters and exchanges of six intervals on the circle. In connection with a conjecture of S.P. In this article we study local rigidity properties of generalised interval exchange maps using renormalisation methods. We study the dynamics of the renormalisation operator $\mathcal{R}$ acting on the space of $\mathcal{C}^{3}$-generalised interval exchange transformations at fixed points (which are standard periodic type IETs). We show that $\mathcal{R}$ is hyperbolic and that the number of unstable direction is exactly that predicted by the ergodic theory of IETs and the work of Forni and Marmi-Moussa-Yoccoz. We give conditions for minimality of $\mathbb Z/N\mathbb Z$ extensions of a rotation of angle $α$ with one marked point, solving the problem for any prime $N$: for $N=2$, these correspond to the Veech 1969 examples, for which a necessary and sufficient condition was not known yet. This article provides optimal constants for two quantitative recurrence problems. First of all for recurrence of maps of the interval [0,1] that preserve the Lebesgue measure and on the other hand Lagrange spectrum of interval exchange transformations. Both results are based on a non-conventional packing problem in the plane with respect to the "pseudo-norm" N(x,y) = sqrt(|xy|).
In \cite{B} Bourgain proves that Sarnak's disjointness conjecture holds for a certain class of Three-interval exchange maps. In the present paper we slightly improve the Diophantine condition of Bourgain and estimate the constants in the proof. We further show, that the new parameter set has positive, but not full Hausdorff dimension. This, in particular, implies that the Lebesgue measure of this set is zero.

We describe in this article the dynamics of a $1$-parameter family of affine interval exchange transformations. It amounts to studying the directional foliations of a particular affine surface, the Disco surface. We show that a residual set of non-degenerate IETs on more than 3 letters is topologically mixing. This shows that there exists a uniquely ergodic topologically mixing IET. This is then applied to show that some billiard flows in a fixed direction in an L-shaped polygon are topologically mixing.
