Let $κ'(G)$ be the edge connectivity of $G$ and $G\times H$ the direct product of $G$ and $H$. Let $H$ be an arbitrary dense graph with minimal degree $δ(H)>|H|/2$. We prove that for any graph $G$, $κ'(G\times H)=\textup{min}\{2κ'(G)e(H),δ(G)δ(H)\}$, where $e(H)$ denotes the number of edges in $H$. In addition, the structure of minimum edge cuts is described. As an application, we present a necessary and sufficient condition for $G\times K_n(n\ge3)$ to be super edge connected.
For a graph $G$, $k(G)$ denotes its connectivity. A graph is super connected if every minimum vertex-cut isolates a vertex. Also $k_{1}$-connectivity of a connected graph is the minimum number of vertices whose deletion gives a disconnected graph without isolated vertices. This paper provides bounds for the super connectivity and $k_{1}$-connectivity of the lexicographic product of two graphs.
The generalized $k$-edge-connectivity $λ_k(G)$ of a graph $G$ is a generalization of the concept of edge-connectivity. The lexicographic product of two graphs $G$ and $H$, denoted by $G\circ H$, is an important graph product. In this paper, we mainly study the generalized 3-edge-connectivity of $G \circ H$, and get upper and lower bounds of $λ_3(G \circ H)$. Moreover, all bounds are sharp.
This paper considers the edge-connectivity and restricted edge-connectivity of replacement product graphs, gives some bounds on edge-connectivity and restricted edge-connectivity of replacement product graphs and determines the exact values for some special graphs. In particular, the authors further confirm that under certain conditions, the replacement product of two Cayley graphs is also a Cayley graph, and give a necessary and sufficient condition for such Cayley graphs to have maximum restricted edge-connectivity. Based on these results, the authors construct a Cayley graph with degree $d$…
The generalized $k$-connectivity $κ_{k}(G)$ of a graph $G$, which was introduced by Chartrand et al.(1984) is a generalization of the concept of vertex connectivity. Let $G$ and $H$ be nontrivial connected graphs. Recently, Li et al. gave a lower bound for the generalized $3$-connectivity of the Cartesian product graph $G \square H$ and proposed a conjecture for the case that $H$ is $3$-connected. In this paper, we give two different forms of lower bounds for the generalized $3$-connectivity of Cartesian product graphs. The first lower bound is stronger than theirs, and the second confirms the…
Let $κ(G)$ be the connectivity of $G$ and $G\times H$ the direct product of $G$ and $H$. We prove that for any graphs $G$ and $K_n$ with $n\ge 3$, $κ(G\times K_n)=min\{nκ(G),(n-1)δ(G)\}$, which was conjectured by Guji and Vumar.
The generalized $k$-connectivity $κ_k(G)$ of a graph $G$, introduced by Chartrand et al., is a natural and nice generalization of the concept of (vertex-)connectivity. In this paper, we prove that for any two connected graphs $G$ and $H$, $κ_3(G\circ H)\geq κ_3(G)|V(H)|$. We also give upper bounds for $κ_3(G\Box H)$ and $κ_3(G\circ H)$. Moreover, all the bounds are sharp.
The conditional $h$-vertex($h$-edge) connectivity of a connected graph $H$ of minimum degree $ k > h$ is the size of a smallest vertex(edge) set $F$ of $H$ such that $H - F$ is a disconnected graph of minimum degree at least $h.$ Let $G$ be the Cartesian product of $r\geq 1$ cycles, each of length at least four and let $h$ be an integer such that $0\leq h\leq 2r-2$. In this paper, we determine the conditional $h$-vertex-connectivity and the conditional $h$-edge-connectivity of the graph $G.$ We prove that both these connectivities are equal to $(2r-h)a_h^r$, where $a_h^r$ is the number of vert…
A flip is a minimal move between two triangulations of a polytope. An open question is whether any two triangulations of the product of two simplices can be connected through a series of flips. This was proven in the case where one of the simplices is a triangle by Santos in 2005. In this paper we extend this to when one of the simplices is a tetrahedron.
Figueroa-Centeno et al. introduced the following product of digraphs: let $D$ be a digraph and let $Γ$ be a family of digraphs such that $V(F)=V$ for every $F\in Γ$. Consider any function $h:E(D)\longrightarrowΓ$. Then the product $D\otimes_{h} Γ$ is the digraph with vertex set $V(D)\times V$ and $((a,x),(b,y))\in E(D\otimes_hΓ)$ if and only if $(a,b)\in E(D)$ and $(x,y)\in E(h (a,b))$. In this paper, we introduce the undirected version of the $\otimes_h$-product, which is a generalization of the classical direct product of graphs and, motivated by it, we also recover a generalization of the c…
The direct product of graphs $G=(V(G),E(G))$ and $H=(V(H),E(H))$ is the graph, denoted as $G\times H$, with vertex set $V(G\times H)=V(G)\times V(H)$, where vertices $(x_1,y_1)$ and $(x_2,y_2)$ are adjacent in $G\times H$ if $x_1x_2\in E(G)$ and $y_1y_2\in E(H)$. The edge connectivity of a graph $G$, denoted as $λ(G)$, is the size of a minimum edge-cut in $G$. We introduce a function $ψ$ and prove the following formula %for the edge-connectivity of direct products $$λ(G\times H)=\min {2λ(G)|E(H)|,2λ(H)|E(G)|,δ(G\times H), ψ(G,H), ψ(H,G)} .$$ We also describe the structure of every minimum edge…
Let $G$ be a connected graph and $g$ be a non-negative integer. The $g$-extra connectivity of $G$ is the minimum cardinality of a set of vertices in $G$, if it exists, whose removal disconnects $G$ and leaves every component with more than $g$ vertices. The strong product $G_1 \boxtimes G_2$ of graphs $G_1=(V_{1}, E_{1})$ and $G_2=(V_{2}, E_{2})$ is the graph with vertex set $V(G_1 \boxtimes G_2)=V_{1} \times V_{2}$, where two distinct vertices $(x_{1}, x_{2}), (y_{1}, y_{2}) \in V_{1} \times V_{2}$ are adjacent in $G_1 \boxtimes G_2$ if and only if $x_{i}=y_{i}$ or $x_{i} y_{i} \in E_{i}$ for…
The concept of monochromatic connectivity was introduced by Caro and Yuster. A path in an edge-colored graph is called a \emph{monochromatic path} if all the edges on the path are colored the same. An edge-coloring of $G$ is a \emph{monochromatic connection coloring} ($MC$-coloring, for short) if there is a monochromatic path joining any two vertices in $G$. The \emph{monochromatic connection number}, denoted by $mc(G)$, is defined to be the maximum number of colors used in an $MC$-coloring of a graph $G$. In this paper, we study the monochromatic connection number on the lexicographical, stro…
For a (molecular) graph, the first multiplicative Zagreb index $\prod_1(G) $ is the product of the square of every vertex degree, and the second multiplicative Zagreb index $\prod_2(G) $ is the product of the products of degrees of pairs of adjacent vertices. In this paper, we explore graphs in terms of (edge) connectivity. The maximum and minimum values of $\prod_1(G) $ and $\prod_2(G) $ of graphs with connectivity at most $k$ are provided. In addition, the corresponding extremal graphs are characterized, and our results extend and enrich some known conclusions.
Due to shorter range communication becoming more prevalent with the development of multiple-input, multiple-output antennas (MIMO) and millimeter wave communications, multi-hop, intra-cell communication is anticipated to play a major role in 5G. This is developed in this thesis. Our analysis involves a stochastic spatial network model called a random geometric graph, which we use to model a network of interconnected devices communicating wirelessly without any separate, pre-established infrastructure. [The remaining abstract is available in the front matter of this thesis.]
This paper investigates the addition of random edges to arbitrary dense graphs; in particular, we determine the number of random edges required to ensure various monotone properties including the appearance of a fixed size clique, small diameter and $k$-connectivity.
Let $κ(G)$ be the connectivity of $G$. The Kronecker product $G_1\times G_2$ of graphs $G_1$ and $G_2$ has vertex set $V(G_1\times G_2)=V(G_1)\times V(G_2)$ and edge set $E(G_1\times G_2)=\{(u_1,v_1)(u_2,v_2):u_1u_2\in E(G_1),v_1v_2\in E(G_2)\}$. In this paper, we prove that $κ(G\times K_2)=\textup{min}\{2κ(G), \textup{min}\{|X|+2|Y|\}\}$, where the second minimum is taken over all disjoint sets $X,Y\subseteq V(G)$ satisfying (1)$G-(X\cup Y)$ has a bipartite component $C$, and (2) $G[V(C)\cup \{x\}]$ is also bipartite for each $x\in X$.
For a graph $G$, the first multiplicative Zagreb index $\prod_1(G) $ is the product of squares of vertex degrees, and the second multiplicative Zagreb index $\prod_2(G) $ is the product of products of degrees of pairs of adjacent vertices. In this paper, we explore graphs with extremal $Π_{1}(G)$ and $Π_{2}(G)$ in terms of (edge) connectivity and pendant vertices. The corresponding extremal graphs are characterized with given connectivity at most $k$ and $p$ pendant vertices. In addition, the maximum and minimum values of $\prod_1(G) $ and $\prod_2(G) $ are provided. Our results extend and enr…

Mixed connectivity is a generalization of vertex and edge connectivity. A graph is $(p,0)$-connected, $p>0$, if the graph remains connected after removal of any $p-1$ vertices. A graph is $(p,q)$-connected, $p\geq 0$, $q>0$, if it remains connected after removal of any $p$ vertices and any $q-1$ edges. Cartesian graph bundles are graphs that generalize both covering graphs and Cartesian graph products. It is shown that if graph $F$ is $(p_{F},q_{F})$-connected and graph $B$ is $(p_{B},q_{B})$-connected, then Cartesian graph bundle $G$ with fibre $F$ over the base graph $B$ is $(p_{F}+p_{B},q_{…
Due to the increasing discovery and implementation of networks within all disciplines of life, the study of subgraph connectivity has become increasingly important. Motivated by the idea of community (or sub-graph) detection within a network/graph, we focused on finding characterizations of k-dense communities. For each edge $uv\in E(G)$, the {\bf edge multiplicity} of $uv$ in $G$ is given by $m_G(uv)=|N_{G}(u)\cap N_{G}(v)|.$ For an integer $k$ with $k\ge 2$, a {\bf $k$-dense community} of a graph $G$, denoted by $DC_k(G)$, is a maximal connected subgraph of $G$ induced by the vertex set $$V_…
The generalized connectivity of a graph, which was introduced recently by Chartrand et al., is a generalization of the concept of vertex connectivity. Let $S$ be a nonempty set of vertices of $G$, a collection $\{T_1,T_2,...,T_r\}$ of trees in $G$ is said to be internally disjoint trees connecting $S$ if $E(T_i)\cap E(T_j)=\emptyset$ and $V(T_i)\cap V(T_j)=S$ for any pair of distinct integers $i,j$, where $1\leq i,j\leq r$. For an integer $k$ with $2\leq k\leq n$, the $k$-connectivity $κ_k(G)$ of $G$ is the greatest positive integer $r$ for which $G$ contains at least $r$ internally disjoint t…
The double graph of a graph $G$ is defined as $\mathcal{D}[G]$ = $G \times T_2$, where \(T_2\) is the total graph with 2 vertices and $\times$ stands for the Kronecker product of graphs. In this paper, sufficient conditions for double graphs to be maximum vertex-connected, maximum edge-connected are presented.
Let $D=(V,A)$ be a digraph of order $n$, $S$ a subset of $V$ of size $k$ and $2\le k\leq n$. A strong subgraph $H$ of $D$ is called an $S$-strong subgraph if $S\subseteq V(H)$. A pair of $S$-strong subgraphs $D_1$ and $D_2$ are said to be arc-disjoint if $A(D_1)\cap A(D_2)=\emptyset$. Let $λ_S(D)$ be the maximum number of arc-disjoint $S$-strong subgraphs in $D$. The strong subgraph $k$-arc-connectivity is defined as $$λ_k(D)=\min\{λ_S(D)\mid S\subseteq V(D), |S|=k\}.$$ The parameter $λ_k(D)$ can be seen as a generalization of classical edge-connectivity of undirected graphs. In this paper, we…
In 1956, Nordhaus and Gaddum gave lower and upper bounds on the sum and the product of the chromatic number of a graph and its complement, in terms of the order of the graph. Since then, any bound on the sum and/or the product of an invariant in a graph $G$ and the same invariant in the complement $G^c$ of $G$ is called a Nordhaus-Gaddum type inequality or relation. The Nordhaus-Gaddum type inequalities for connectivity have been studied by several authors. For a bipartite graph $G=G[X,Y]$ with bipartition ($X,Y$), its bipartite complementary graph $G^{bc}$ is a bipartite graph with $V(G^{bc})…
Nodes are randomly distributed within an annulus (and then a shell) to form a point pattern of communication terminals which are linked stochastically according to the Rayleigh fading of radio-frequency data signals. We then present analytic formulas for the connection probability of these spatially embedded graphs, describing the connectivity behaviour as a dense-network limit is approached. This extends recent work modelling ad hoc networks in non-convex domains.
Extremal properties of sparse graphs, randomly perturbed by the binomial random graph are considered. It is known that every $n$-vertex graph $G$ contains a complete minor of order $Ω(n/α(G))$. We prove that adding $ξn$ random edges, where $ξ> 0$ is arbitrarily small yet fixed, to an $n$-vertex graph $G$ satisfying $α(G) \leq ζ(ξ)n$ asymptotically almost surely results in a graph containing a complete minor of order $\tilde Ω\left( n/\sqrt{α(G)}\right)$; this result is tight up to the implicit logarithmic terms. For complete topological minors, we prove that there exists a constant $C>0$ such …
We study linkedness of Cartesian product of graphs and prove that the product of an $a$-linked and a $b$-linked graphs is $(a+b-1)$-linked if the graphs are sufficiently large. Further bounds in terms of connectivity are shown. We determine linkedness of product of paths and product of cycles.
We study the homology of random Čech complexes generated by a homogeneous Poisson process. We focus on 'homological connectivity' - the stage where the random complex is dense enough, so that its homology "stabilizes" and becomes isomorphic to that of the underlying topological space. Our results form a comprehensive high-dimensional analogue of well-known phenomena related to connectivity in the Erdős-Rényi graph and random geometric graphs. We first prove that there is a sharp phase transition describing homological connectivity. Next, we analyze the behavior of the complex in the critical w…
A group $G$ splits over a subgroup $C$ if $G$ is either a free product with amalgamation $A \underset{C}{\ast} B$ or an HNN-extension $G=A \underset{C}{\ast} (t)$. We invoke Bass-Serre theory and classify all infinite groups which admit cubic Cayley graphs of connectivity two in terms of splittings over a subgroup.
The modified eccentric connectivity index of a graph is defined as the sum of the products of eccentricity with the total degree of neighboring vertices, over all vertices of the graph. This is a generalization of eccentric connectivity index. In this paper, we derive some upper and lower bounds for the modified eccentric connectivity index in terms of some graph parameters such as number of vertices, number of edges, radius, minimum degree, maximum degree, total eccentricity, the first and second Zagreb indices, Weiner index etc.
The Zero divisor Graph of a commutative ring $R$, denoted by $Γ[R]$, is a graph whose vertices are non-zero zero divisors of $R$ and two vertices are adjacent if their product is zero. In this paper we derive the Vertex and Edge Connectivity of the zero divisor graph $Γ[\mathbb{Z}_n]$, for any natural number $n$ . We also discuss the minimum degree of the zero divisor graph $Γ[\mathbb{Z}_n]$.
Stochastic Kronecker graphs are a model for complex networks where each edge is present independently according the Kronecker (tensor) product of a fixed matrix k-by-k matrix P with entries in [0,1]. We develop a novel correspondence between the adjacencies in a general stochastic Kronecker graph and the action of a fixed Markov chain. Using this correspondence we are able to generalize the arguments of Horn and Radcliffe on the emergence of the giant component from the case where k = 2 to arbitrary k. We are also able to use this correspondence to completely analyze the connectivity of a gene…
