Let $D=(V,A)$ be a digraph of order $n$, $S$ a subset of $V$ of size $k$ and $2\le k\leq n$. A strong subgraph $H$ of $D$ is called an $S$-strong subgraph if $S\subseteq V(H)$. A pair of $S$-strong subgraphs $D_1$ and $D_2$ are said to be arc-disjoint if $A(D_1)\cap A(D_2)=\emptyset$. Let $λ_S(D)$ be the maximum number of arc-disjoint $S$-strong subgraphs in $D$. The strong subgraph $k$-arc-connectivity is defined as $$λ_k(D)=\min\{λ_S(D)\mid S\subseteq V(D), |S|=k\}.$$ The parameter $λ_k(D)$ can be seen as a generalization of classical edge-connectivity of undirected graphs.
In this paper, we first obtain a formula for the arc-connectivity of Cartesian product $λ(G\Box H)$ of two digraphs $G$ and $H$ generalizing a formula for edge-connectivity of Cartesian product of two undirected graphs obtained by Xu and Yang (2006). Then we study the strong subgraph 2-arc-connectivity of Cartesian product $λ_2(G\Box H)$ and prove that $ \min\left \{ λ\left ( G \right ) \left | H \right | , λ\left ( H \right ) \left |G \right |,δ^{+ } \left ( G \right )+ δ^{+ } \left ( H \right ),δ^{- } \left ( G \right )+ δ^{- } \left ( H \right ) \right \}\geλ_2(G\Box H)\ge λ_2(G)+λ_2(H)-1.$ The upper bound for $λ_2(G\Box H)$ is sharp and is a simple corollary of the formula for $λ(G\Box H)$. The lower bound for $λ_2(G\Box H)$ is either sharp or almost sharp i.e. differs by 1 from the sharp bound. We also obtain exact values for $λ_2(G\Box H)$, where $G$ and $H$ are digraphs from some digraph families.
The three standard products (the Cartesian, the direct and the strong product) of undirected graphs have been wellinvestigated, unique prime factor decomposition (PFD) are known and polynomial time algorithms have been established for determining the prime factors. For directed graphs, unique PFD results with respect to the standard products are known. However, there is still a lack of algorithms, that computes the PFD of directed graphs with respect to the direct and the strong product in general. In this contribution, we focus on the algorithmic aspects for determining the PFD of directed gr…
In this paper, we combine group-theoretic and combinatorial techniques to study $\wedge$-transitive digraphs admitting a cartesian decomposition of their vertex set. In particular, our approach uncovers a new family of digraphs that may be of considerable interest.
A digraph $D$ is an efficient closed domination digraph if there exists a subset $S$ of $V(D)$ for which the closed out-neighborhoods centered in vertices of $S$ form a partition of $V(D)$. In this work we deal with efficient closed domination digraphs among several product of digraphs. We completely describe the efficient closed domination digraphs among lexicographic and strong products of digraphs. We characterize those direct products of digraphs that are efficient closed domination digraphs, where factors are either two cycles or two paths. Among Cartesian product of digraphs, we describe…
A digraph $D=(V,A)$ has a good decomposition if $A$ has two disjoint sets $A_1$ and $A_2$ such that both $(V,A_1)$ and $(V,A_2)$ are strong. Let $T$ be a digraph with $t$ vertices $u_1,\dots , u_t$ and let $H_1,\dots H_t$ be digraphs such that $H_i$ has vertices $u_{i,j_i},\ 1\le j_i\le n_i.$ Then the composition $Q=T[H_1,\dots , H_t]$ is a digraph with vertex set $\{u_{i,j_i}\mid 1\le i\le t, 1\le j_i\le n_i\}$ and arc set $$A(Q)=\cup^t_{i=1}A(H_i)\cup \{u_{ij_i}u_{pq_p}\mid u_iu_p\in A(T), 1\le j_i\le n_i, 1\le q_p\le n_p\}.$$ For digraph compositions $Q=T[H_1,\dots H_t]$, we obtain sufficie…
A unified approach to the determination of eigenvalues and eigenvectors of specific matrices associated with directed graphs is presented. Matrices studied include the distance matrix, distance Laplacian, and distance signless Laplacian, in addition to the adjacency matrix, Laplacian, and signless Laplacian. Various sums of Kronecker products of nonnegative matrices are introduced to model the Cartesian and lexicographic products of digraphs. The Jordan canonical form is applied extensively to the analysis of spectra and eigenvectors. The analysis shows that Cartesian products provide a method…

An out-(in-)branching B_s^+ (B_s^-) rooted at s in a digraph D is a connected spanning subdigraph of D in which every vertex x != s has precisely one arc entering (leaving) it and s has no arcs entering (leaving) it. We settle the complexity of the following two problems: 1) Given a 2-regular digraph $D$, decide if it contains two arc-disjoint branchings B^+_u, B^-_v. 2) Given a 2-regular digraph D, decide if it contains an out-branching B^+_u such that D remains connected after removing the arcs of B^+_u. Both problems are NP-complete for general digraphs. We prove that the first problem rema…
A digraph is eulerian if it is connected and every vertex has its in-degree equal to its out-degree. Having a spanning eulerian subdigraph is thus a weakening of having a hamiltonian cycle. In this paper, we first characterize the pairs $(D,a)$ of a semicomplete digraph $D$ and an arc $a$ such that $D$ has a spanning eulerian subdigraph containing $a$. In particular, we show that if $D$ is $2$-arc-strong, then every arc is contained in a spanning eulerian subdigraph. We then characterize the pairs $(D,a)$ of a semicomplete digraph $D$ and an arc $a$ such that $D$ has a spanning eulerian subdig…
Let $D=(V,E)$ be a strongly connected digraph and let $u ,v\in V(D)$. The maximum distance $md (u,v)$ is defined as\\ $md(u,v)$=max\{$\overrightarrow{d}(u,v), \overrightarrow{d}(v,u)$\} where $\overrightarrow{d}(u,v)$ denote the length of a shortest directed $u-v$ path in $D$. This is a metric. The boundary, contour, eccentric and peripheral sets of a strong digraph $D$ with respect to this metric have been defined, and the above said metrically defined sets of a large strong digraph $D$ have been investigated in terms of the factors in its prime factor decomposition with respect to Cartesian …
In this survey we overview known results on the strong subgraph $k$-connectivity and strong subgraph $k$-arc-connectivity of digraphs. After an introductory section, the paper is divided into four sections: basic results, algorithms and complexity, sharp bounds for strong subgraph $k$-(arc-)connectivity, minimally strong subgraph $(k, \ell)$-(arc-) connected digraphs. This survey contains several conjectures and open problems for further study.
In this note, we introduce and study a new version of neighbour-distinguishing arc-colourings of digraphs. An arc-colouring $γ$ of a digraph $D$ is proper if no two arcs with the same head or with the same tail are assigned the same colour. For each vertex $u$ of $D$, we denote by $S_γ^-(u)$ and $S_γ^+(u)$ the sets of colours that appear on the incoming arcs and on the outgoing arcs of $u$, respectively. An arc colouring $γ$ of $D$ is \emph{neighbour-distinguishing} if, for every two adjacent vertices $u$ and $v$ of $D$, the ordered pairs $(S_γ^-(u),S_γ^+(u))$ and $(S_γ^-(v),S_γ^+(v))$ are dis…
A strong arc decomposition of a digraph $D=(V,A)$ is a decomposition of its arc set $A$ into two disjoint subsets $A_1$ and $A_2$ such that both of the spanning subdigraphs $D_1=(V,A_1)$ and $D_2=(V,A_2)$ are strong. Let $T$ be a digraph with $t$ vertices $u_1,\dots , u_t$ and let $H_1,\dots H_t$ be digraphs such that $H_i$ has vertices $u_{i,j_i},\ 1\le j_i\le n_i.$ Then the composition $Q=T[H_1,\dots , H_t]$ is a digraph with vertex set $\cup_{i=1}^t V(H_i)=\{u_{i,j_i}\mid 1\le i\le t, 1\le j_i\le n_i\}$ and arc set \[ \left(\cup^t_{i=1}A(H_i) \right) \cup \left( \cup_{u_iu_p\in A(T)} \{u_{i…
A digraph $D=(V, A)$ has a good pair at a vertex $r$ if $D$ has a pair of arc-disjoint in- and out-branchings rooted at $r$. Let $T$ be a digraph with $t$ vertices $u_1,\dots , u_t$ and let $H_1,\dots H_t$ be digraphs such that $H_i$ has vertices $u_{i,j_i},\ 1\le j_i\le n_i.$ Then the composition $Q=T[H_1,\dots , H_t]$ is a digraph with vertex set $\{u_{i,j_i}\mid 1\le i\le t, 1\le j_i\le n_i\}$ and arc set $$A(Q)=\cup^t_{i=1}A(H_i)\cup \{u_{ij_i}u_{pq_p}\mid u_iu_p\in A(T), 1\le j_i\le n_i, 1\le q_p\le n_p\}.$$ When $T$ is arbitrary, we obtain the following result: every strong digraph compo…
We show that if $C_1$ and $C_2$ are directed cycles (of length at least two), then the Cartesian product $C_1 \Box C_2$ has two arc-disjoint hamiltonian paths. (This answers a question asked by J. A. Gallian in 1985.) The same conclusion also holds for the Cartesian product of any four or more directed cycles (of length at least two), but some cases remain open for the Cartesian product of three directed cycles. We also discuss the existence of arc-disjoint hamiltonian paths in $2$-generated Cayley digraphs on (finite or infinite) abelian groups.
Let $D=(V,A)$ be a digraph and $\mathfrak{S}$ a partition of $V(D)$. We say that $\mathfrak{S}$ is a strong in-domatic partition if every $S$ in $\mathfrak{S}$ holds that every vertex not in $S$ has at least one out-neighbor in $S$, that is $S$ is an in-dominating set, and $D\langle S \rangle$ is strongly connected. The maximum number of elements in a strong in-domatic partition is called the strong in-domatic number of $D$ and it is denoted by $\mathsf{d}_{s}^{-}(D)$. In this paper we introduce those concepts and determine the value of $\mathsf{d}_{s}^{-}$ for semicomplete digraphs and planar…
Two previous papers, arXiv:1803.00284 and arXiv:1803.00281, introduced and studied strong subgraph $k$-connectivity of digraphs obtaining characterizations, lower and upper bounds and computational complexity results for the new digraph parameter. The parameter is an analog of well-studied generalized $k$-connectivity of undirected graphs. In this paper, we introduce the concept of strong subgraph $k$-arc-connectivity of digraphs, which is an analog of generalized $k$-edge-connectivity of undirected graphs. We also obtain characterizations, lower and upper bounds and computational complexity r…
Arc-locally semicomplete and arc-locally in-semicomplete digraphs were introduced by Bang-Jensen as a common generalization of both semicomplete and semicomplete bipartite digraphs in 1993. Later, Bang-Jensen (2004), Galeana-Sanchez and Goldfeder (2009) and Wang and Wang (2009) provided a characterization of strong arc-locally semicomplete digraphs. In 2009, Wang and Wang characterized strong arc-locally in-semicomplete digraphs. In 2012, Galeana-Sanchez and Goldfeder provided a characterization of all arc-locally semicomplete digraphs which generalizes some results by Bang-Jensen. In this pap…
We study vertex-quasiprimitive $2$-arc-transitive digraphs, reducing the problem of vertex-primitive $2$-arc-transitive digraphs to almost simple groups. This includes a complete classification of vertex-quasiprimitive $2$-arc-transitive digraphs where the action on vertices has O'Nan-Scott type SD or CD.
Catch digraphs was introduced by Hiroshi Maehara in 1984 as an analog of intersection graphs where a family of pointed sets represents a digraph. After that Prisner continued his research particularly on interval catch digraphs by characterizing them diasteroidal triple free. It has numerous applications in the field of real world problems like network technology and telecommunication operations. Recently, we characterized three important subclasses of interval catch digraphs. In this article we introduce a new class of catch digraphs, namely circular-arc catch digraphs. The definition is same…
We introduce a construction of highly arc transitive digraphs using a layerwise direct product. This product generalizes some known classes of highly arc transitive digraphs but also allows to construct new such. We use the product to obtain counterexamples to a conjecture by Cameron, Praeger and Wormald on the structure of certain highly arc transitive digraphs.
We resolve two problems of [Cameron, Praeger, and Wormald -- Infinite highly arc transitive digraphs and universal covering digraphs, Combinatorica 1993]. First, we construct a locally finite highly arc-transitive digraph with universal reachability relation. Second, we provide constructions of 2-ended highly arc transitive digraphs where each `building block' is a finite bipartite graph that is not a disjoint union of complete bipartite graphs. This was conjectured impossible in the above paper. We also describe the structure of 2-ended highly arc transitive digraphs in more generality, altho…
We study $G$-vertex-primitive and $(G,s)$-arc-transitive digraphs for almost simple groups $G$ with socle $\mathrm{PSL}_n(q)$. It turns out that $s\leqslant2$ for such digraphs, which provides the first step in determining an upper bound on $s$ for all the vertex-primitive $s$-arc-transitive digraphs.
A digraph X=(V, E) is max-λ, if λ(X)=δ(X). A digraph X is super-λif every minimum cut of X is either the set of inarcs of some vertex or the set of outarcs of some vertex. In this paper, we will prove that for all but a few exceptions, the strongly connected mixed Cayley digraphs are max-λand super-λ.
In 2017, Giudici, Li and the third author constructed the first known family of vertex-primitive $2$-arc-transitive digraphs of valency at least $2$. The smallest digraph in this family admits $\mathrm{PSL}_3(49)$ acting $2$-arc-transitively with vertex-stabilizer $\mathrm{A}_6$ and hence has $30758154560$ vertices. In this paper, we prove that this digraph is the vertex-primitive $2$-arc-transitive digraph of valency at least $2$ with fewest vertices.
A subgraph H= (V, F) of a graph G= (V,E) is non-separating if G-F, that is, the graph obtained from G by deleting the edges in F, is connected. Analogously we say that a subdigraph X= (V,B) of a digraph D= (V,A) is non-separating if D-B is strongly connected. We study non-separating spanning trees and out-branchings in digraphs of independence number 2. Our main results are that every 2-arc-strong digraph D of independence number alpha(D) = 2 and minimum in-degree at least 5 and every 2-arc-strong oriented graph with alpha(D) = 2 and minimum in-degree at least 3 has a non-separating out-branch…
A detailed description of the structure of two-ended arc-transitive digraphs is given. It is also shown that several sets of conditions, involving such concepts as Property Z, local quasi-primitivity and prime out-valency, imply that an arc-transitive digraph must be highly-arc-transitive. These are then applied to give a complete classification of two-ended highly-arc-transitive digraphs with prime in- and out-valencies.
A general method for constructing sharply $k$-arc-transitive digraphs, i.e. digraphs that are $k$-arc-transitive but not $(k+1)$-arc-transitive, is presented. Using our method it is possible to construct both finite and infinite examples. The infinite examples can have one, two or infinitely many ends. Among the one-ended examples there are also digraphs that have polynomial growth.
Let X=(V, E) be a digraph. X is maximally connected, if κ(X)=δ(X). X is maximally arc-connected, if λ(X)=δ(X). And X is super arc-connected, if every minimum arc-cut of X is either the set of inarcs of some vertex or the set of outarcs of some vertex. In this paper, we will prove that the strongly connected Bi-Cayley digraphs are maximally connected and maximally arc-connected, and the most of strongly connected Bi-Cayley digraphs are super arc-connected.
A {\em kernel by properly colored paths} of an arc-colored digraph $D$ is a set $S$ of vertices of $D$ such that (i) no two vertices of $S$ are connected by a properly colored directed path in $D$, and (ii) every vertex outside $S$ can reach $S$ by a properly colored directed path in $D$. In this paper, we conjecture that every arc-colored digraph with all cycles properly colored has such a kernel and verify the conjecture for unicyclic digraphs, semi-complete digraphs and bipartite tournaments, respectively. Moreover, weaker conditions for the latter two classes of digraphs are given.
The orientable domination number, ${\rm DOM}(G)$, of a graph $G$ is the largest domination number over all orientations of $G$. In this paper, ${\rm DOM}$ is studied on different product graphs and related graph operations. The orientable domination number of arbitrary corona products is determined, while sharp lower and upper bounds are proved for Cartesian and lexicographic products. A result of Chartrand et al. from 1996 is extended by establishing the values of ${\rm DOM}(K_{n_1,n_2,n_3})$ for arbitrary positive integers $n_1,n_2$ and $n_3$. While considering the orientable domination numb…
A directed graph is oriented if it can be obtained by orienting the edges of a simple, undirected graph. For an oriented graph $G$, let $β(G)$ denote the size of a minimum feedback arc set, a smallest subset of edges whose deletion leaves an acyclic subgraph. A simple consequence of a result of Berger and Shor is that any oriented graph $G$ with $m$ edges satisfies $β(G) = m/2 - Ω(m^{3/4})$. We observe that if an oriented graph $G$ has a fixed forbidden subgraph $B$, the upper bound of $β(G) = m/2 - Ω(m^{3/4})$ is best possible as a function of the number of edges if $B$ is not bipartite, but …
In 2018, Bai, Fujita and Zhang (\emph{Discrete Math.} 2018, 341(6): 1523-1533) introduced the concept of a kernel by rainbow paths (for short, RP-kernel) of an arc-coloured digraph $D$, which is a subset $S$ of vertices of $D$ such that ($a$) there exists no rainbow path for any pair of distinct vertices of $S$, and ($b$) every vertex outside $S$ can reach $S$ by a rainbow path in $D$. They showed that it is NP-hard to recognize wether an arc-coloured digraph has a RP-kernel and it is NP-complete to decided wether an arc-coloured tournament has a RP-kernel. In this paper, we give the sufficien…
Bang-Jensen, Bessy, Havet and Yeo showed that every digraph of independence number at most 2 and arc-connectivity at least 2 has an out-branching $B^+$ and an in-branching $B^-$ which are arc-disjoint (such two branchings are called a {\it good pair}), which settled a conjecture of Thomassen for digraphs of independence number 2. They also proved that every digraph on at most 6 vertices and arc-connectivity at least 2 has a good pair and gave an example of a 2-arc-strong digraph $D$ on 10 vertices with independence number 4 that has no good pair. They asked for the smallest number $n$ of verti…
We prove that every digraph of independence number at most 2 and arc-connectivity at least 2 has an out-branching $B^+$ and an in-branching $B^-$ which are arc-disjoint (we call such branchings good pair). This is best possible in terms of the arc-connectivity as there are infinitely many strong digraphs with independence number 2 and arbitrarily high minimum in-and out-degrees that have good no pair. The result settles a conjecture by Thomassen for digraphs of independence number 2. We prove that every digraph on at most 6 vertices and arc-connectivity at least 2 has a good pair and give an e…
We study the problem of packing arborescences in the random digraph $\mathcal D(n,p)$, where each possible arc is included uniformly at random with probability $p=p(n)$. Let $λ(\mathcal D(n,p))$ denote the largest integer $λ\geq 0$ such that, for all $0\leq \ell\leq λ$, we have $\sum_{i=0}^{\ell-1} (\ell-i)|\{v: d^{in}(v) = i\}| \leq \ell$. We show that the maximum number of arc-disjoint arborescences in $\mathcal D(n,p)$ is $λ(\mathcal D(n,p))$ a.a.s. We also give tight estimates for $λ(\mathcal D(n,p))$ depending on the range of $p$.
A complete list of all connected arc-transitive asymmetric digraphs of in-valence and out-valence 2 on up to 1000 vertices is presented. As a byproduct, a complete list of all connected 4-valent graphs admitting a half-arc-transitive group of automorphisms on up to 1000 vertices is obtained. Several graph-theoretical properties of the elements of our census are calculated and discussed.
An antidirected trail in a digraph is a trail (a walk with no arc repeated) in which the arcs alternate between forward and backward arcs. An antidirected path is an antidirected trail where no vertex is repeated. We show that it is NP-complete to decide whether two vertices $x,y$ in a digraph are connected by an antidirected path, while one can decide in linear time whether they are connected by an antidirected trail. A digraph $D$ is antistrong if it contains an antidirected $(x,y)$-trail starting and ending with a forward arc for every choice of $x,y\in V(D)$. We show that antistrong connec…
For a simple digraph $G$, let $β(G)$ be the size of the smallest subset $X\subseteq E(G)$ such that $G-X$ has no directed cycles, and let $γ(G)$ be the number of unordered pairs of nonadjacent vertices in $G$. A digraph $G$ is called $m$-free if $G$ has no directed cycles of length at most $m$. This paper proves that $β(G)\leq \frac{1}{m-2}γ(G)$ for any $m$-free digraph $G$, which generalized some known results.
Let $D$ be an arc-colored digraph. The arc number $a(D)$ of $D$ is defined as the number of arcs of $D$. The color number $c(D)$ of $D$ is defined as the number of colors assigned to the arcs of $D$. A rainbow triangle in $D$ is a directed triangle in which every pair of arcs have distinct colors. Let $f(D)$ be the smallest integer such that if $c(D)\geq f(D)$, then $D$ contains a rainbow triangle. In this paper we obtain $f(\overleftrightarrow{K}_{n})$ and $f(T_n)$, where $\overleftrightarrow{K}_{n}$ is a complete digraph of order $n$ and $T_n$ is a strongly connected tournament of order $n$.…
A minimum feedback arc set of a directed graph $G$ is a smallest set of arcs whose removal makes $G$ acyclic. Its cardinality is denoted by $β(G)$. We show that an Eulerian digraph with $n$ vertices and $m$ arcs has $β(G) \ge m^2/2n^2+m/2n$, and this bound is optimal for infinitely many $m, n$. Using this result we prove that an Eulerian digraph contains a cycle of length at most $6n^2/m$, and has an Eulerian subgraph with minimum degree at least $m^2/24n^3$. Both estimates are tight up to a constant factor. Finally, motivated by a conjecture of Bollobás and Scott, we also show how to find lon…
An out-branching $B^+_u$ (in-branching $B^-_u$) in a digraph $D$ is a connected spanning subdigraph of $D$ in which every vertex except the vertex $u$, called the root, has in-degree (out-degree) one. It is well-known that there exists a polynomial algorithm for deciding whether a given digraph has $k$ arc-disjoint out-branchings with prescribed roots ($k$ is part of the input). In sharp contrast to this, it is already NP-complete to decide if a digraph has one out-branching which is arc-disjoint from some in-branching. A digraph is {\bf semicomplete} if it has no pair of non adjacent vertices…

In this paper, we study two types of strong subgraph packing problems in digraphs, including internally disjoint strong subgraph packing problem and arc-disjoint strong subgraph packing problem. These problems can be viewed as generalizations of the famous Steiner tree packing problem and are closely related to the strong arc decomposition problem. We first prove the NP-completeness for the internally disjoint strong subgraph packing problem restricted to symmetric digraphs and Eulerian digraphs. Then we get inapproximability results for the arc-disjoint strong subgraph packing problem and the…
A weighted digraph is a digraph such that every arc is assigned a nonnegative number, called the weight of the arc. The weighted outdegree of a vertex $v$ in a weighted digraph $D$ is the sum of the weights of the arcs with $v$ as their tail, and the weight of a directed cycle $C$ in $D$ is the sum of the weights of the arcs of $C$. In this note we prove that if every vertex of a weighted digraph $D$ with order $n$ has weighted outdegree at least 1, then there exists a directed cycle in $D$ with weight at least $1/\log_2 n$. This proves a conjecture of Bollobás and Scott up to a constant facto…
In a digraph $D = (X, \mathcal{U})$, not necessarily finite, an arc $(x, y) \in \mathcal{U}$ is reachable from a vertex $u$ if there exists a directed walk $W$ that originates from $u$ and contains $(x, y)$. A subset $S \subseteq X$ is an arc-reaching set of $D$ if for every arc $(x, y)$ there exists a diwalk $W$ originating at a vertex $u \in S$ and containing $(x, y)$. A minimal arc-reaching set is an arc-basis. $S$ is a point-reaching set if for every vertex $v$ there exists a diwalk $W$ to $v$ originating at a vertex $u \in S$. A minimal point-reaching set is a point-basis. We extend the r…
Given integers $k$ and $m$, we construct a $G$-arc-transitive graph of valency $k$ and an $L$-arc-transitive oriented digraph of out-valency $k$ such that $G$ and $L$ both admit blocks of imprimitivity of size $m$.
An arc-weighted digraph is a pair $(D,ω)$ where $D$ is a digraph and $ω$ is an \emph{arc-weight function} that assigns\ to each arc $uv$ of $D$ a nonzero real number $ω(uv)$. Given an arc-weighted digraph $(D,ω)$ with vertices $v_{1},\ldots,v_{n}$, the weighted adjacency matrix of $(D,ω)$ is defined as the matrix $A(D,ω)=[a_{ij}]$ where $a_{ij}=ω(v_{i}v_{j})$, if $v_{i}v_{j}\ $an arc of $D$ and $0$ otherwise. Let $(D,ω)$ be a positive arc-weighted digraphs and assume that $D$ is loopless and symmetric. A skew-signing of $(D,ω)$ is an arc-weight function $ω^{\prime}$ such that $ω^{\prime}(uv)=\…
The dichromatic number of a digraph $G$ is the smallest integer $χ_a(G)$ such that the vertex set of $G$ can be partitioned into $χ_a(G)$ sets, each of which induces an acyclic subdigraph. This is a generalization of the classic chromatic number of graphs. Here, we investigate the dichromatic number of the cartesian, direct, strong and lexicographic products, giving generalizations of some classic results on the chromatic number of products. More specifically, we prove that the following inequalities, known to hold for the chromatic number of graphs, still hold for the dichromatic number of di…
A fascinating problem on digraphs is the existence problem of the finiteupper bound on s for all vertex-primitive s-arc-transitive digraphs except directed cycles (which is known to be reduced to the almost simple groups case). In this paper,we prove that s 2 for all G-vertex-primitive s-arc-transitive digraphs with G an (insoluble) alternating or symmetric group, which makes an important progress towards a solution of the problem. The proofs involves some methods that may be used to investigate other almost simple groups cases.
Let $D$ be a strongly connected digraph. An arc set $S$ of $D$ is a \emph{restricted arc-cut} of $D$ if $D-S$ has a non-trivial strong component $D_{1}$ such that $D-V(D_{1})$ contains an arc. The \emph{restricted arc-connectivity} $λ'(D)$ of a digraph $D$ is the minimum cardinality over all restricted arc-cuts of $D$. A strongly connected digraph $D$ is \emph{$λ'$-connected} when $λ'(D)$ exists. This paper presents a family $\cal{F}$ of strong digraphs of girth four that are not $λ'$-connected and for every strong digraph $D\notin \cal{F}$ with girth four it follows that it is $λ'$-connected.…
A dominating (respectively, total dominating) set $S$ of a digraph $D$ is a set of vertices in $D$ such that the union of the closed (respectively, open) out-neighborhoods of vertices in $S$ equals the vertex set of $D$. The minimum size of a dominating (respectively, total dominating) set of $D$ is the domination (respectively, total domination) number of $D$, denoted $γ(D)$ (respectively,$γ_t(D)$). The maximum number of pairwise disjoint closed (respectively, open) in-neighborhoods of $D$ is denoted by $ρ(D)$ (respectively,$ρ^{\rm o}(D)$). We prove that in digraphs whose underlying graphs hav…
