This work is devoted to the study of the initial boundary value problem for a general isothermal model of capillary fluids derived by J.E Dunn and J.Serrin (1985), which can be used as a phase transition model. We will prove the existence of strong solutions in finite time with discontinuous initial density, more precisely $\lnρ_{0}$ is in $B^{\N}_{2,\infty}(\R^{N})$. Our analysis improves the results of \cite{fDD} and \cite{fH1}, \cite{fH2} by working in space of infinite energy. In passing our result allow to consider initial data with discontinuous interfaces, whereas in all the literature the results of existence of strong solutions consider always initial density that are continuous. More precisely we investigate the existence of strong solution for Korteweg's system when we authorize jump in the pressure across some hypersurface. We obtain also a result of ill-posedness for Korteweg system and we derive a new blow-up criterion which is the main result of this paper. More precisely we show that if we control the vacuum (i.e $\frac{1}ρ\in L^{\infty}_{T}(\dot{B}^{0}_{N+\e,1}(\R^{N}))$ with $\e>0$) then we can extend the strong solutions in finite time. It extends substantially previous results obtained for compressible equations.
This paper proves a Serrin's type blow-up criterion for the 3D density-dependent Navier-Stokes-Korteweg equations with vacuum. It is shown that if the density and velocity field satisfy some Serrin's type condition, then the strong solutions to the density-dependent Navier-Stokes-Korteweg equations can exist globally.
We prove a first stability result of self-similar blow-up for the modified KdV equation on the line. More precisely, given a self-similar solution and a sufficiently small regular profile, there is a unique global solution which behaves at t tends to 0 as the sum of the self-similar solution and the smooth perturbation.
We study the behavior of the solution of a generalized damped KdV equation $u_t + u_x + u_{xxx} + u^p u_x + \mathscr{L}_γ(u)= 0$. We first state results on the local well-posedness. Then when $p \geq 4$, conditions on $\mathscr{L}_γ$ are given to prevent the blow-up of the solution. Finally, we numerically build such sequences of damping.
We study the dispersive blow-up phenomena for the Schrödinger-Korteweg-de Vries (S-KdV) system. Roughly, dispersive blow-up has being called to the development of point singularities due to the focussing of short or long waves. In mathematical terms, we show that the existence of this kind of singularities is provided by the linear dispersive solution by proving that the Duhamel term is smoother. It seems that this result is the first regarding systems of nonlinear dispersive equations. To obtain our results we use, in addition to smoothing properties, persistence properties for solutions of t…
In the last twenty years, there have been significant advances in the study of the blow-up phenomenon for the critical generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation, including the determination of sufficient conditions for blowup, the stability of blowup in a refined topology and the classification of minimal mass blowup. Exotic blow-up solutions with a continuum of blow-up rates and multi-point blow-up solutions were also constructed. However, all these results, as well as numerical simulations, involve the bubbling of a solitary wave going at infinity at the blow-up time, which means that the blow-…
In the paper two kinds of solutions are derived for the complex Korteweg-de Vries equation, including blow-up solutions and non-singular solutions. We derive blow-up solutions from known 1-soliton solution and a double-pole solution. There is a complex Miura transformation between the complex Korteweg-de Vries equation and a modified Korteweg-de Vries equation. Using the transformation, solitons, breathers and rational solutions to the complex Korteweg-de Vries equation are obtained from those of the modified Korteweg-de Vries equation. Dynamics of the obtained solutions are illustrated.

The initial-boundary value problem for the Schrödinger-Korteweg-de Vries system is considered on the left and right half-line for a wide class of initial-boundary data, including the energy regularity $H^1(\R^{\pm})\times H^1(\R^{\pm})$ for initial data. Assuming homogeneous boundary conditions it is shown for positive coupling interactions that local solutions can be extended globally in time for initial data in the energy space; furthermore, for negative coupling interactions it was proved, for a certain class of regular initial data, the following result: if the respective solution does not…
Under a natural stability condition on the pressure, it is known that for small irrotational initial data, the solutions of the Euler-Korteweg system are global in time. When the initial velocity has a small rotational part, we obtain a lower bound on the time of existence that depends only on the rotational part. In the zero vorticity limit we recover the previous global well-posedness result. Independently of this analysis, we also provide (in a special case) a simple example of solution that blows up in finite time.
In this paper, we study a class of initial boundary value problem (IBVP) of the Korteweg- de Vries equation posed on a finite interval with nonhomogeneous boundary conditions. The IBVP is known to be locally well-posed, but its global $L^2 $ a priori estimate is not available and therefore it is not clear whether its solutions exist globally or blow up in finite time. It is shown in this paper that the solutions exist globally as long as their initial value and the associated boundary data are small, and moreover, those solutions decay exponentially if their boundary data decay exponentially
This work is devoted to prove new entropy estimates for a general isothermal model of capillary fluids derived by J.E Dunn and J.Serrin (1985) (see \cite{fDS}), which can be used as a phase transition model. More precisely we will derive new estimates for the density and we will give a new structure for the Korteweg system which allow us to obtain the existence of global weak solution. The key of the proof comes from the introduction of a new effective velocity. The proof is widely inspired from the works of A. Mellet and A. Vasseur (see \cite{fMV}). In a second part, we shall give a Prody-Serr…
We consider a general Euler-Korteweg-Poisson system in $R^3$, supplemented with the space periodic boundary conditions, where the quantum hydrodynamics equations and the classical fluid dynamics equations with capillarity are recovered as particular examples. We show that the system admits infinitely many global-in-time weak solutions for any sufficiently smooth initial data including the case of a vanishing initial density - the vacuum zones. Moreover, there is a vast family of initial data, for which the Cauchy problem possesses infinitely many dissipative weak solutions, i.e. the weak solut…
We consider a family of dispersion generalized Benjamin-Ono equations (dgBO) which are critical with respect to the L2 norm and interpolate between the critical modified (BO) equation and the critical generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation (gKdV). First, we prove local well-posedness in the energy space for these equations, extending results by Kenig, Ponce and Vega concerning the (gKdV) equations. Second, we address the blow up problem in the spirit of works of Martel and Merle on the critical (gKdV) equation, by studying rigidity properties of the (dgBO) flow in a neighborhood of solitons. W…
We study numerically the evolution of perturbed Korteweg-de Vries solitons and of well localized initial data by the Novikov-Veselov (NV) equation at different levels of the "energy" parameter $ E $. We show that as $ |E| \to \infty $, NV behaves, as expected, similarly to its formal limit, the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation. However at intermediate regimes, i.e. when $ | E | $ is not very large, more varied scenarios are possible, in particular, blow-ups are observed. The mechanism of the blow-up is studied.
We study the Cauchy problem of the Schrödinger-Korteweg-de Vries system. First, we establish the local well-posedness results, which improve the results of Corcho, Linares (2007). Moreover, we obtain some ill-posedness results, which show that they are sharp in some well-posedness thresholds. Particularly, we obtain the local well-posedness for the initial data in $H^{-{3/16}+}(\R)\times H^{-{3/4}+}(\R)$ in the resonant case, it is almost the optimal except the endpoint. At last we establish the global well-posedness results in $H^s(\R)\times H^s(\R)$ when $s>\dfrac{1}{2}$ no matter in the res…
In this paper we mainly investigate the initial value problem of the periodic Euler-Poincaré equations. We first present a new blow-up result to the system for a special class of smooth initial data by using the rotational invariant properties of the system. Then, we prove that the periodic Euler-Poincaré equations is ill-posed in critical Besov spaces by a contradiction argument. Finally, we verify the system possesses a class of peakon solutions in the sense of distributions.
Large scale dynamics of the oceans and the atmosphere are governed by the primitive equations (PEs). It is well-known that the three-dimensional viscous PEs is globally well-posed in Sobolev spaces. On the other hand, the inviscid PEs without rotation is known to be ill-posed in Sobolev spaces, and its smooth solutions can form singularity in finite time. In this paper, we extend the above results in the presence of rotation. First, we construct finite-time blowup solutions to the inviscid PEs with rotation, and establish that the inviscid PEs with rotation is ill-posed in Sobolev spaces in th…
The existence of weak solutions and upper bounds for the blow-up time for time-discrete parabolic-elliptic Keller-Segel models for chemotaxis in the two-dimensional whole space are proved. For various time discretizations, including the implicit Euler, BDF, and Runge-Kutta methods, the same bounds for the blow-up time as in the continuous case are derived by discrete versions of the virial argument. The theoretical results are illustrated by numerical simulations using an upwind finite-element method combined with second-order time discretizations.
It is well-known that the Neumann initial-boundary value problem for the minimal-chemotaxis-logistic system in a 2D bounded smooth domain has no blow-up for any choice of parameters. Here, for a large class of kinetic terms including sub-logistic sources, we show that the corresponding 2D Neumann initial-boundary value problems do not possess any blow-up. This illustrates a new phenomenon that even a class of sub-logistic sources can prevent blow-up for the 2D problem, indicating that logistic damping is not the weakest damping to guarantee uniform-in-time boundedness for the 2D minimal Keller…
We study the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation in the $L^2$-supercritical regime with finite energy and finite variance initial data. We investigate solutions above the energy (or mass-energy) threshold. In our first result, we extend the known scattering versus blow-up dichotomy above that threshold for finite variance solutions in the energy-subcritical and energy-critical regimes, obtaining scattering and blow-up criteria for solutions with arbitrarily large mass and energy. As a consequence, we characterize the behavior of the ground state initial data modulated by a quadratic phase.…
In a recent paper, Kenig, Ponce and Vega study the low regularity behavior of the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS), focusing modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV), and complex Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equations. Using soliton and breather solutions, they demonstrate the lack of local well-posedness for these equations below their respective endpoint regularities. In this paper, we study the defocusing analogues of these equations, namely defocusing NLS, defocusing mKdV, and real KdV, all in one spatial dimension, for which suitable soliton and breather solutions are unavailable. We construct fo…

In this paper, we explore a nonlocal inviscid Burgers equation. Fixing a parameter $h$, we prove existence and uniqueness of the local solution of the equation $\InviscidBurgersNonlocal{u}$ with periodic initial condition. We also explore the blow up properties of solutions to these kinds of equations with given periodic initial data, and show that there exists solutions that blow up in finite time and solutions that are globally regular. This contrasts with the classical inviscid Burgers equation, for which all non-constant smooth periodic initial data lead to finite time blow up. Finally, we…
In this paper, we design Dirichlet-Neumann boundary feedback controllers for the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation that act at the right endpoint of the domain. The length of the domain is allowed to be critical. Constructing backstepping controllers that act at the right endpoint of the domain is more challenging than its left endpoint counterpart. The standard application of the backstepping method fails, because corresponding kernel models become overdetermined. In order to deal with this difficulty, we introduce the pseudo-backstepping method, which uses a pseudo-kernel that satisfies all b…
We study the long-time dynamics of complex-valued modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) solitons, which are recognized because they blow-up in finite time. We establish stability properties at the H^1 level of regularity, uniformly away from each blow-up point. These new properties are used to prove that mKdV breathers are H^1 stable, improving our previous result, where we only proved H^2 stability. The main new ingredient of the proof is the use of a Bäcklund transformation which links the behavior of breathers, complex-valued solitons and small real-valued solutions of the mKdV equation. We als…
This paper studies the transport of a mass $μ$ in $\real^d, d \geq 2,$ by a flow field $v= -\nabla K*μ$. We focus on kernels $K=|x|^α/ α$ for $2-d\leq α<2$ for which the smooth densities are known to develop singularities in finite time. For this range This paper studies the transport of a mass $μ$ in $\real^d, d \geq 2,$ by a flow field $v= -\nabla K*μ$. We focus on kernels $K=|x|^α/ α$ for $2-d\leq α<2$ for which the smooth densities are known to develop singularities in finite time. For this range we prove the existence for all time of radially symmetric measure solutions that are monotone …
We introduce a notion of global weak solution to the Navier-Stokes equations in three dimensions with initial values in the critical homogeneous Besov spaces $\dot{B}^{-1+\frac{3}{p}}_{p,\infty}$, $p > 3$. These solutions satisfy a certain stability property with respect to the weak-$\ast$ convergence of initial conditions. To illustrate this property, we provide applications to blow-up criteria, minimal blow-up initial data, and forward self-similar solutions. Our proof relies on a new splitting result in homogeneous Besov spaces that may be of independent interest.
In this paper we prove that all initially-smooth solutions of the Euler-Weil-Petersson equation, which describes geodesics on the universal Teichmüller space under the Weil-Petersson metric, will remain smooth for all time. This extends the work of Escher-Kolev for strong Riemannian metrics to the borderline case of $H^{3/2}$ metrics. In addition we show that all initially-smooth solutions of the Wunsch equation, which describes geodesics on the universal Teichmüller curve under the Velling-Kirillov metric, must blow up in finite time due to wave breaking, extending work of Castro-Córdoba and …
We investigate gradient flows of some homogeneous functionals in R^N , arising in the Lagrangian approximation of systems of self-interacting and diffusing particles. We focus on the case of negative homogeneity. In the case of strong self-interaction, the functional possesses a cone of negative energy. It is immediate to see that solutions with negative energy at some time become singular in finite time, meaning that a subset of particles concentrate at a single point. Here, we establish that all solutions become singular in finite time for the class of functionals under consideration. The pa…

We study the influence of the factor of electron-ion collisions on the solution of the Cauchy problem in the one-dimensional relativistic model of cold plasma and show that, depending on their intensity and initial data, two scenarios are possible: either the solution remains smooth and stabilizes to a stationary state, or during a finite time the oscillations blowup. In contrast to the nonrelativistic model, when exact conditions can be obtained separating the two behaviors, in a much more complicated relativistic situation, it turns out to be possible to analytically estimate from below the …
In this work, we demonstrate well-posedness and regularisation by noise results for a class of geometric transport equations that contains, among others, the linear transport and continuity equations. This class is known as linear advection of $k$-forms. In particular, we prove global existence and uniqueness of $L^p$-solutions to the stochastic equation, driven by a spatially $α$-Hölder drift $b$, uniformly bounded in time, with an integrability condition on the distributional derivative of $b$, and sufficiently regular diffusion vector fields. Furthermore, we prove that all our solutions are…
The blow up phenomenon in the first step of the classical Picard's scheme was proved in this paper. For certain initial spaces, Bourgain-Pavlović and Yoneda proved the ill-posedness of the Navier-Stokes equations by showing the norm inflation in certain solution spaces. But Chemin and Gallagher said the space $\dot{B}^{-1,\infty}_{\infty}$ seems to be optimal for some solution spaces best chosen. In this paper, we consider more general initial spaces than Bourgain-Pavlović and Yoneda did and establish ill-posedness result independent of the choice of solution space. Our result is a complement …
