We investigate generalizations of the Charlier and the Meixner polynomials on the lattice N and on the shifted lattice N+1-β. We combine both lattices to obtain the bi-lattice N \cup (N+1-β) and show that the orthogonal polynomials on this bi-lattice have recurrence coefficients which satisfy a non-linear system of recurrence equations, which we can identify as a limiting case of an (asymmetric) discrete Painlevé equation.
Szego's procedure to connect orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle and orthogonal polynomials on [-1,1] is generalized to nonsymmetric measures. It generates the so-called semi-orthogonal functions on the linear space of Laurent polynomials L, and leads to a new orthogonality structure in the module LxL. Given $\{P_n \}$ a sequence of monic orthogonal polynomials, we analyze their linear combinations $\{Q_n \}$with constant coefficients and fixed length $k+1$. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the orthogonality of the monic sequence $\{Q_n \}$ as well as an interesting interpretation in terms of the Jacobi matrices associated with $\{P_n \}$ and $\{Q_n \}$. Moreover, in the case $k=2$, we characterize the families $\{P_n \}$ such that the corresponding polynomials $\{Q_n \}$ are also orthogonal.
Orthogonal polynomials of two real variables can often be represented in complex variables. We explore the connection between the two types of representations and study the structural relations of complex orthogonal polynomials. The complex Hermite orthogonal polynomials and the disk polynomials are used as illustrating examples.

The recurrence coefficients determine a tridiagonal semi-infinite matrix (Jacobi matrix) which uniquely characterizes the orthogonal polynomials. In this paper Fourier transform of multivariate orthogonal polynomials on the simplex is presented. A new family of multivariate orthogonal functions is obtained by using the Parseval's identity and several recurrence relations are derived.
We generalize generating functions for hypergeometric orthogonal polynomials, namely Jacobi, Gegenbauer, Laguerre, and Wilson polynomials. These generalizations of generating functions are accomplished through series rearrangement using connection relations with one free parameter for these orthogonal polynomials. We also use orthogonality relations to determine corresponding definite integrals.
Orthogonal polynomials and multiple orthogonal polynomials are interesting special functions because there is a beautiful theory for them, with many examples and useful applications in mathematical physics, numerical analysis, statistics and probability and many other disciplines. In these notes we give an introduction to the use of orthogonal polynomials in random matrix theory, we explain the notion of multiple orthogonal polynomials, and we show the link with certain non-linear difference and differential equations known as Painlevé equations.
The purpose of this paper is to find the characterization of the Sheffer polynomial sets satisfying the d-orthogonality conditions. The generating function form of these polynomial sets is given in Theorem 2.2. As applications of the Theorem 2.2, we revisit the d-orthogonal polynomial sets exist in the literature and discover new d-orthogonal polynomial sets. Moreover, we obtain the d-dimensional functional vector ensuring the d-orthogonality of these new polynomial sets.
We study two families of orthogonal polynomials. The first is a finite family related to the Askey-Wilson polynomials but the orthogonality is on the real line. A limiting case of this family is an infinite system of orthogonal polynomials whose moment problem is indeterminate. We provide several orthogonality measures for the infinite family and derive their Plancherel-Rotach asymptotics.
Differential properties for orthogonal polynomials in several variables are studied. We consider multivariate orthogonal polynomials whose gradients satisfy some quasi--orthogonality conditions. We obtain several characterizations for these polynomials including the analogous of the semiclassical Pearson differential equation, the structure relation and a differential--difference equation.
Classical orthogonal polynomials in one variable can be characterized as the only orthogonal polynomials satisfying a Rodrigues formula. In this paper, using the second kind Kronecker power of a matrix, a Rodrigues formula is introduced for classical orthogonal polynomials in two variables.

Recently there has been a renewed interest in an extension of the notion of orthogonal polynomials known as multiple orthogonal polynomials. This notion comes from simultaneous rational approximation (Hermite-Pade approximation) of a system of several functions. We describe seven families of multiple orthogonal polynomials which have he same flavor as the very classical orthogonal polynomials of Jacobi, Laguerre and Hermite. It is well known that the zeros of orthogonal polynomials interlace. In this paper we study the case of multiple orthogonal polynomials. We recall known results and some recursion relations for multiple orthogonal polynomials. Our main result gives a sufficient condition, based on the coefficients in the recurrence relations, for the interlacing of the zeros of neighboring multiple orthogonal polynomials. We give several examples illustrating our result.

For a bilinear form obtained by adding a Dirac mass to a positive definite moment functional in several variables, explicit formulas of orthogonal polynomials are derived from the orthogonal polynomials associated with the moment functional. Explicit formula for the reproducing kernel is also derived and used to establish certain inequalities for classical orthogonal polynomials.
A high order linear $q$-difference equation with polynomial coefficients having $q$-Hahn multiple orthogonal polynomials as eigenfunctions is given. The order of the equation is related to the number of orthogonality conditions that these polynomials satisfy. Some limiting situations when $q\to1$ are studied. Laurent polynomials related to the Hahn-Exton $q$-Bessel function, which are $q$-analogues of the Lommel polynomials, have been introduced by Koelink and Swarttouw. By considering all possible solutions of the Pearson equation, we obtain the canonical families in each class. We also consider limit relations between these and other families of orthogonal polynomials.

This paper derives sparse recurrence relations between orthogonal polynomials on a triangle and their partial derivatives, which are analogous to recurrence relations for Jacobi polynomials. We use connection relations and series rearrangement to generalize generating functions for several higher continuous orthogonal polynomials in the Askey scheme, namely the Wilson, continuous dual Hahn, continuous Hahn, and Meixner-Pollaczek polynomials. The purpose of this work is to analyse a family of mutually orthogonal polynomials on the unit ball with respect to an inner product which includes an additional term on the sphere. First, we will get connection formulas relating classical multivariate orthogonal polynomials on the ball with our family of orthogonal polynomials. Then, using the representation of these polynomials in terms of spherical harmonics, algebraic and differential properties will be deduced.

We develop a theory of Sobolev orthogonal polynomials on the Sierpiński gasket ($SG$). These orthogonal polynomials arise through the Gram-Schmidt orthogonalisation process applied on the set of monomials on $SG$ using several notions of a Sobolev inner products. After establishing some recurrence relations for these orthogonal polynomials, we give estimates for their $L^2$, $L^\infty$ and Sobolev norms, and study their asymptotic behaviour. Finally, we study the properties of zero sets of polynomials and develop fast computational tools to explore applications to quadrature and interpolation.
We investigate the interlacing of zeros of polynomials of different degrees within the sequences of $q$-Laguerre polynomials $\left\{\tilde{L}_n^{(δ)}(z;q)\right\}_{n=0}^{\infty}$ characterized by $δ\in(-2,-1).$ The interlacing of zeros of quasi-orthogonal polynomials $\tilde{L}_n^{(δ)}(z;q)$ with those of the orthogonal polynomials $\tilde{L}_m^{(δ+t)}(z;q), m,n\in\mathbb{N}, t\in\{1,2\}$ is also considered. New bounds for the least zero of the (order $1$) quasi-orthogonal $q$-Laguerre polynomials are derived.
We use the Legendre polynomials and the Hermite polynomials as two examples to illustrate a simple and systematic technique on deriving asymptotic formulas for orthogonal polynomials via recurrence relations. Another application of this technique is to provide a solution to a problem recently raised by M. E. H. Ismail.
