Let $A$ be a connected commutative $\C$-algebra with derivation $D$, $G$ a finite linear automorphism group of $A$ which preserves $D$, and $R=A^G$ the fixed point subalgebra of $A$ under the action of $G$. We show that if $A$ is generated by a single element as an $R$-algebra and is a Galois extension over $R$ in the sense of M. Auslander and O. Goldman, then every finite-dimensional vertex algebra $R$-module has a structure of twisted vertex algebra $A$-module.
We solve a functional version of the problem of twist quantization of a coboundary Lie bialgebra (g,r,Z). We derive from this the following results: (a) the formal Poisson manifolds g^* and G^* are isomorphic; (b) we construct a subalgebra of U(g^*), isomorphic to S(g^*)^g. When g can be quantized, we construct a deformation of the morphism S(g^*)^g subset U(g^*). When g is quasitriangular and nondegenerate, we compare our construction with Semenov-Tian-Shansky's construction of a commutative subalgebra of U(g^*). We also show that the canonical derivation of the function ring of G^* is Hamilt…
A Poisson geometry arising from maximal commutative subalgebras is studied. A spectral sequence convergent to Hochschild homology with coefficients in a bimodule is presented. It depends on the choice of a maximal commutative subalgebra inducing appropriate filtrations. Its E^{2}_{p,q}-groups are computed in terms of canonical homology with values in a Poisson module defined by a given bimodule and a maximal commutative subalgebra.
A notion of intermediate vertex subalgebras of lattice vertex operator algebras is introduced, as a generalization of the notion of principal subspaces. Bases and the graded dimensions of such subalgebras are given. As an application, it is shown that the characters of some modules of an intermediate vertex subalgebra between $E_7$ and $E_8$ lattice vertex operator algebras satisfy some modular differential equations. This result is an analogue of the result concerning the "hole" of the Deligne dimension formulas and the intermediate Lie algebra between the simple Lie algebras $E_7$ and $E_8$.
Let M(1) be the vertex algebra for a single free boson. We classify irreducible modules of certain vertex subalgebras of M(1) generated by two generators. These subalgebras correspond to the W(2, 2p-1)--algebras with central charge $1- 6 \frac{(p - 1) ^{2}}{p}$ where p is a positive integer, $p \ge 2$. We also determine the associated Zhu's algebras.
We study the fixed point subalgebra of a certain class of lattice vertex operator algebras by an automorphism of order 3, which is a lift of a fixed-point-free isometry of the underlying lattice. We classify the irreducible modules for the subalgebra. Moreover, the rationality and the $C_2$-cofiniteness of the subalgebra are established. Our result contains the case of the vertex operator algebra associated with the Leech lattice.
We study the subalgebra of the lattice vertex operator algebra $V_{\sqrt{2}A_2}$ consisting of the fixed points of an automorphism which is induced from an order 3 isometry of the root lattice $A_2$. We classify the simple modules for the subalgebra. The rationality and the $C_2$-cofiniteness are also established.
In this paper we prove that the subalgebras of cocommutative elements in the quantized coordinate rings of $M_{n}$, $GL_{n}$ and $SL_{n}$ are the centralizers of the trace $x_{1,1}+\dots+x_{n,n}$ in each algebra, for $q\in\mathbb{C}^{\times}$ being not a root of unity. In particular, it is not only a commutative subalgebra as it was known before, but it is a maximal one.
We develop criteria to decide if an $N=2$ or $N=4$ super conformal algebra is a subalgebra of a super vertex operator algebra in general, and of a super lattice theory in particular. We give some specific examples.
Let $V_{L}$ be the vertex algebra associated to a non-degenerate even lattice $L$, $θ$ the automorphism of $V_{L}$ induced from the $-1$-isometry of $L$, and $V_{L}^{+}$ the fixed point subalgebra of $V_{L}$ under the action of $θ$. We show that every weak $V_{L}^{+}$-module is completely reducible.
In formulating a generalized framework to study certain noncommutative algebras naturally arising in representation theory, K. A. Brown asked if every finitely generated Hopf algebra satisfying a polynomial identity was finite over a normal commutative Hopf subalgebra. In this note we show that Radford's biproduct, applied to the enveloping algebra of the Lie superalgebra pl(1,1), provides a noetherian prime counterexample.
In this paper we classify, under certain restrictions, all homogeneous conformal subalgebras $\goth L$ of a lattice vertex superalgebra $V_Λ$ corresponding to an integer lattice $Λ$. We require that $\goth L$ is graded by an almost finite root system $Δ\subset Λ$ and that $\goth L$ is stable under the action of the Heisenberg conformal algebra $\goth H\subset V_Λ$. We also describe the root systems of these subalgebras. The key ingredient of this classification is an infinite type conformal algebra $\goth K$ obtained by the Tits-Kantor-Koeher construction from a certain Jordan conformal triple…
Let $V_{L}$ be the vertex algebra associated to a non-degenerate even lattice $L$, $θ$ the automorphism of $V_{L}$ induced from the $-1$ symmetry of $L$, and $V_{L}^{+}$ the fixed point subalgebra of $V_{L}$ under the action of $θ$. We classify the irreducible weak $V_{L}^{+}$-modules and show that any irreducible weak $V_{L}^{+}$-module is isomorphic to a weak submodule of some irreducible weak $V_{L}$-module or to a submodule of some irreducible $θ$-twisted $V_{L}$-module.
We study maximal Poisson-commutative subalgebras in the Poisson algebra $S(\mathfrak{g})$ of a semisimple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ constructed by Mischenko and Fomenko with the help of the argument shift method. We prove that these subalgebras are Poisson centralizers of certain quadratic elements of $S(\mathfrak{g})$. We deduce from this that there is a unique quantization of Mischenko--Fomenko subalgebras, i.e. there is a unique way to lift Mischenko--Fomenko subalgebras to commutative subalgebras of the universal enveloping algebra $U(\mathfrak{g})$.
The notion of compatible braidings was introduced by Isaev, Ogievetsky and Pyatov. On the base of this notion they defined certain quantum matrix algebras generalizing the RTT algebras and Reflection Equation ones. They also defined analogs of some symmetric polynomials in these algebras and showed that these polynomials generate commutative subalgebras, called Bethe. By using a similar approach we introduce certain new algebras called generalized Yangians and define analogs of some symmetric polynomials in these algebras. We claim that they commute with each other and thus generate a commutat…
Let ${\mathscr M}(p)$ $(p=2,3,\ldots)$ be the singlet vertex operator algebra and $ω$ its conformal vector. We classify the simple weak ${\mathscr M}(p)$-modules with a non-zero element $u$ such that for some integer $s\geq 2$, $ω_i u\in{\mathbb C} u$ ($i=\lfloor s/2\rfloor+1,\lfloor s/2\rfloor+2,\ldots,s-1$), $ω_{s} u\in{\mathbb C}^{\times} u$, and $ω_i u=0$ for all $i>s$.
In this series of papers, we classify the irreducible weak $V_{L}^{+}$-modules and show that any irreducible weak $V_{L}^{+}$-module is isomorphic to a weak submodule of some irreducible weak $V_{L}$-module or to a submodule of some irreducible $θ$-twisted $V_{L}$-module. Let $M(1)^{+}$ be the fixed point subalgebra of the Heisenberg vertex operator algebra $M(1)$ …
In this paper (Part 1), we show that when the rank of $L$ is $1$, every non-zero weak $V_{L}^{…
For a vertex operator algebra $V$ with conformal vector $ω$, we consider a class of vertex operator subalgebras and their conformal vectors. They are called semi-conformal vertex operator subalgebras and semi-conformal vectors of $(V,ω)$, respectively, and were used to study duality theory of vertex operator algebras via coset constructions. Using these objects attached to $(V,ω)$, we shall understand the structure of the vertex operator algebra $(V,ω)$. At first, we define the set $\on{Sc}(V,ω)$ of semi-conformal vectors of $V$, then we prove that $\on{Sc}(V,ω)$ is an affine algebraic variety…
Let $M(1)$ be the vertex operator algebra with the Virasoro element $ω$ associated to the Heisenberg algebra of rank $1$ and let $M(1)^{+}$ be the subalgebra of $M(1)$ consisting of the fixed points of an automorphism of $M(1)$ of order $2$. We classify the simple weak $M(1)^{+}$-modules with a non-zero element $w$ such that for some integer $s\geq 2$, $ω_i w\in{\mathbb C}w$ ($i=\lfloor s/2\rfloor+1,\lfloor s/2\rfloor+2,\ldots,s-1$), $ω_{s}w\in{\mathbb C}^{\times}w$, and $ω_i w=0$ for all $i>s$. The result says that any such simple weak $M(1)^{+}$-module is isomorphic to some simple weak $M(1)…
One of the four well-known series of simple Lie algebras of Cartan type is the series of Lie algebras of Special type, which are divergence-free Lie algebras associated with polynomial algebras and the operators of taking partial derivatives, connected with volume-preserving diffeomorphisms. In this paper, we determine the structure space of the divergence-free Lie algebras associated with pairs of a commutative associative algebra with an identity element and its finite-dimensional commutative locally-finite derivation subalgebra such that the commutative associative algebra is derivation-sim…
We classify all the pairs of a commutative associative algebra with an identity element and its finite-dimensional commutative locally-finite derivation subalgebra such that the commutative associative algebra is derivation-simple with respect to the derivation subalgebra over an algebraically closed field with characteristic 0. Such pairs are the fundamental ingredients for constructing generalized simple Lie algebras of Cartan type. Moreover, we determine the isomorphic classes of the generalized simple Lie algebras of Witt Type. The structure space of these algebras is given explicitly.
We prove a sharpened version of a conjecture of Dong-Mason about lattice subalgebras of a strongly regular vertex operator algebra $V$, and give some applications. These include the existence of a canonical conformal subVOA $W\otimes G\otimes Z \subseteq V$, and a generalization of the theory of minimal models.
We introduce a notion of Mathieu-Zhao subspaces of vertex algebras. Among other things, we show that for a vertex algebra $V$ and its subspace $M$ that contains $C_2(V)$, $M$ is a Mathieu-Zhao subspace of $V$ if and only if the quotient space $M/C_2(V)$ is a Mathieu-Zhao subspace of a commutative associative algebra $V/C_2(V)$. As a result, one can study the famous Jacobian conjecture in terms of Mathieu-Zhao subspaces of vertex algebras. In addition, for a $CFT$-type vertex operator algebra $V$ that satisfies the $C_2$-cofiniteness condition, we classify all Mathieu-Zhao subspaces $M$ that co…
We study analogues of the Yangian of the Lie algebra $gl_N$ for the other classical Lie algebras $so_N$ and $sp_N$. We call them twisted Yangians. They are coideal subalgebras in the Yangian $Y(gl_N)$ of $gl_N$ and admit homomorphisms onto the universal enveloping algebras $U(so_N)$ and $U(sp_N)$ respectively. In every twisted Yangian we construct a family of maximal commutative subalgebras parametrized by the regular semisimple elements of the corresponding classical Lie algebra. The images in $U(so_N)$ and $U(sp_N)$ of these subalgebras are also maximal commutative.
Let $V$ be a vertex operator subalgebra of $U$. Assume that $U$, $V$, and its commutant $V^c$ in $U$ are CFT-type, self-dual, and regular VOAs. Assume also that the double commutant $V^{cc}$ equals $V$. We prove that any intertwining operator of $V$ is a compression of intertwining operators of $U$.

Given a finite-dimensional complex Lie algebra g equipped with a nondegenerate, symmetric, invariant bilinear form B, let V_k(g,B) denote the universal affine vertex algebra associated to g and B at level k. For any reductive group G of automorphisms of V_k(g,B), we show that the invariant subalgebra V_k(g,B)^G is strongly finitely generated for generic values of k. This implies the existence of a new family of deformable W-algebras W(g,B,G)_k which exist for all but finitely many values of k.
We provide a complete classification of unitary subalgebras of even rank-one lattice vertex operator algebras. As a consequence of the correspondence between vertex operator algebras and conformal nets, we also obtain a complete classification of conformal subnets of even rank-one lattice conformal nets.
The universal enveloping algebra of any semisimple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ contains a family of maximal commutative subalgebras, called shift of argument subalgebras, parametrized by regular Cartan elements of $\mathfrak{g}$. For $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{gl}_n$ the Gelfand-Tsetlin commutative subalgebra in $U(\mathfrak{g})$ arises as some limit of subalgebras from this family. We study the analogous limit of shift of argument subalgebras for the Lie algebras $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{sp}_{2n}$ and $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{so}_{2n+1}$. The limit subalgebra is described explicitly in terms of Bet…
Let $L_{D_{\ell}}(-\ell +{3/2},0)$ (resp. $L_{B_{\ell}}(-\ell +{3/2},0)$) be the simple vertex operator algebra associated to affine Lie algebra of type $D_{\ell}^{(1)}$ (resp. $B_{\ell}^{(1)}$) with the lowest admissible half-integer level $-\ell + {3/2}$. We show that $L_{D_{\ell}}(-\ell +{3/2},0)$ is a vertex subalgebra of $L_{B_{\ell}}(-\ell +{3/2},0)$ with the same conformal vector. For $\ell =4$, $L_{D_{4}}(-{5/2},0)$ is a vertex subalgebra of three copies of $L_{B_{4}}(-{5/2},0)$ contained in $L_{F_{4}}(-{5/2},0)$, and all five of these vertex operator algebras have the same conformal v…
In our previous work (arXiv:1807.11126) we studied the analogous limit of shift of argument subalgebras for the Lie algebras $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{sp}_{2n}$ and $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{o}_{2n+1}$. We described the li…
Motivated by \cite{am1}, for every finite subgroup $Γ\subset PSL(2,\mathbb{C})$ we investigate the fixed point subalgebra $\triplet^Γ$ of the triplet vertex $\mathcal {W}(p)$, of central charge $1-\frac{6(p-1)^{2}}{p}$, $p\geq2$. This part deals with the $A$-series in the ADE classification of finite subgroups of $PSL(2,\mathbb{C})$. First, we prove the $C_2$-cofiniteness of the $A_m$-fixed subalgebra $\triplet^{A_m}$. Then we construct a family of $\am$-modules, which are expected to form a complete set of irreps. As a strong support to our conjecture, we prove modular invariance of (generali…
Gaudin algebras form a family of maximal commutative subalgebras in the tensor product of $n$ copies of the universal enveloping algebra $U(\g)$ of a semisimple Lie algebra $\g$. This family is parameterized by collections of pairwise distinct complex numbers $z_1,...,z_n$. We obtain some new commutative subalgebras in $U(\g)^{\otimes n}$ as limit cases of Gaudin subalgebras. These commutative subalgebras turn to be related to the hamiltonians of bending flows and to the Gelfand--Tsetlin bases. We use this to prove the simplicity of spectrum in the Gaudin model for some new cases.
The following integrability theorem for vertex operator algebras V satisfying some finiteness conditions(C_2-cofinite and CFT-type) is proved: the vertex operator subalgebra generated by a simple Lie subalgebra {\frak g} of the weight one subspace V_1 is isomorphic to the irreducible highest weight \hat{\frak g}-module L(k, 0) for a positive integer k, and V is an integrable \hat{\frak g}-module. The case in which {\frak g} is replaced by an abelian Lie subalgebra is also considered, and several consequences of integrability are discussed.
We introduce families of maximal commutative subalgebras, called Bethe subalgebras, of the group algebra of the symmetric group. Bethe subalgebras are deformations of the Gelfand-Zetlin subalgebra. We describe various properties of Bethe subalgebras.
The irreducible modules for the fixed point vertex operator subalgebra V_L^+ of the vertex operator algebra V_L associated to an arbitrary positive definite even lattice L under the automorphism lifted from the -1 isometry of L are classified.
We classify the irreducible modules for the fixed point vertex operator subalgebra V_L^+ of the vertex operator algebra V_L associated to a positive definite even lattice of rank 1 under the automorphism lifted from the -1 isometry of L.
Vertex operator superalgebras are studied and various results on rational Vertex operator superalgebras are obtained. In particular, the vertex operator super subalgebras generated by the weight 1/2 and weight 1 subspaces are determined. It is also established that if the even part $V_{\bar 0}$ of a vertex operator superalgebra $V$ is rational, so is $V.$
We construct a family of maximal commutative subalgebras in the tensor product of n copies of the universal enveloping algebra U(g) of a semisimple Lie algebra g. This family is parameterized by collections μ; z_1,...,z_n, where μ\in g^*, and z_1,...,z_n are pairwise distinct complex numbers. The construction presented here generalizes the famous construction of the higher Gaudin hamiltonians due to Feigin, Frenkel, and Reshetikhin. For n=1, our construction gives a quantization of the family of maximal Poisson-commutative subalgebras in S(g) obtained by the argument shift method. Next, we des…
Let L be a Lie pseudoalgebra, a in L. We show that, if a generates a (finite) solvable subalgebra S=<a>, then one may find a lifting a' in S of [a] in S/S' such that <a'> is nilpotent. We then apply this result towards vertex algebras: we show that every finite vertex algebra V admits a decomposition into a semi-direct product V = U + N, where U is a subalgebra of V whose underlying Lie conformal algebra U^lie is a nilpotent self-normalizing subalgebra of V^lie, and N is a canonically determined ideal contained in the nilradical Nil V.
In this paper we use the description of free group factors as the von Neumann algebras of Berezin's deformation of the upper half-plane, modulo PSL$(2,{\Bbb Z})$. The derivative, in the deformation parameter, of the product in the corresponding algebras, is a positive Hochschild 2-cocycle, defined on a dense subalgebra. By analyzing the structure of the cocycle we prove that there is a generator $\cal L$ for a quantum dynamical semigroup that implements the cocycle on a strongly dense subalgebra. For $x$ in the dense subalgebra, ${\cal L}(x)$ is the (diffusion) operator $$ {\cal L}(x)=Λ(x)-(1/…
We are continuing our study of ADE-orbifold subalgebras of the triplet vertex algebra W(p). This part deals with the dihedral series. First, subject to a certain constant term identity, we classify all irreducible modules for the vertex algebra $\bar{M(1)} ^+$, the $\Z_2$--orbifold of the singlet vertex algebra $\bar{M(1)}$. Then we classify irreducible modules and determine Zhu's and $C_2$--algebra for the vertex algebra $\triplet ^{D_2}$. A general method for construction of twisted $\triplet$--modules is also introduced. We also discuss classification of twisted $\bar{M(1)}$--modules includ…
In arXiv:0907.3784, we introduced a variant of non-commutative Donaldson-Thomas theory in a combinatorial way, which is related with topological vertex by a wall-crossing phenomenon. In this paper, we (1) provide an alternative definition in a geometric way, (2) show that the two definitions agree with each other and (3) compute the invariants using the vertex operator method, following Okounkov-Reshetikhin-Vafa and Young. The stability parameter in the geometric definition determines the order of the vertex operators and hence we can understand the wall-crossing formula in non-commutative Don…
Let $V\subseteq A$ be a conformal inclusion of vertex operator algebras and let $\mathcal{C}$ be a category of grading-restricted generalized $V$-modules that admits the vertex algebraic braided tensor category structure of Huang-Lepowsky-Zhang. We give conditions under which $\mathcal{C}$ inherits semisimplicity from the category of grading-restricted generalized $A$-modules in $\mathcal{C}$, and vice versa. The most important condition is that $A$ be a rigid $V$-module in $\mathcal{C}$ with non-zero categorical dimension, that is, we assume the index of $V$ as a subalgebra of $A$ is finite a…
This paper is a continuation of our paper math.QA/0403010 at which several coset subalgebras of the lattice VOA $V_{\sqrt{2}E_8}$ were constructed and the relationship between such algebras with the famous McKay observation on the extended E_8 diagram and the Monster simple group were discussed. In this article, we shall provide the technical details. We completely determine the structure of the coset subalgebras constructed and show that they are all generated by two conformal vectors of central charge 1/2. We also study the representation theory of these coset subalgebras and show that the p…
We recall Borcherds's approach to vertex algebras via "singular commutative rings", and introduce new examples of his constructions which we compare to vertex algebras, chiral algebras, and factorization algebras. We show that all vertex algebras (resp. chiral algebras or equivalently factorization algebras) can be realized in these new categories $\text{VA}(A,H,S)$, but we also show that the functors from $\text{VA}(A,H,S)$ to vertex algebras or chiral algebras are not equivalences: a single vertex or chiral algebra may have non-equivalent realizations as an $(A, H,S)$-vertex algebra.
For any vertex algebra V and any subalgebra A of V, there is a new subalgebra of V known as the commutant of A in V. This construction was introduced by Frenkel-Zhu, and is a generalization of an earlier construction due to Kac-Peterson and Goddard-Kent-Olive known as the coset construction. In this paper, we interpret the commutant as a vertex algebra notion of invariant theory. We present an approach to describing commutant algebras in an appropriate category of vertex algebras by reducing the problem to a question in commutative algebra. We give an interesting example of a Howe pair (ie, a …
In this paper, a continuation of \cite{MPS}, we investigate the $S_3$-orbifold subalgebra of $(\mathcal{V}_c)^{\otimes 3}$, that is, we consider the $S_3$-fixed point vertex subalgebra of the tensor product of three copies of the universal Virasoro vertex operator algebras $\mathcal{V}_c$. Our main result is construction of a minimal, strong set of generators of this subalgebra for any generic values of $c$. More precisely, we show that this vertex algebra is of type $(2,4,6^2,8^2,9,10^2,11,12^3)$. We also investigate two prominent examples of simple $S_3$-orbifold algebras corresponding to ce…
We characterize braided commutative Yetter-Drinfeld $C^*$-algebras over weak Hopf $C^*$-algebras in categorical terms. Using this, we then study quotient type coideal subalgebras of a given weak Hopf $C^*$-algebra $\mathcal G$ and coideal subalgebras invariant with respect to the adjoint action of $\mathcal G$. Finally, as an example, we explicitly describe quotient type coideal subalgebras of the weak Hopf $C^*$-algebras associated with Tambara-Yamagami categories.
The question of whether or not a Hopf algebra $H$ is faithfully flat over a Hopf subalgebra $A$ has received positive answers in several particular cases: when $H$ (or more generally, just $A$) is commutative, or cocommutative, or pointed, or when $K$ contains the coradical of $H$. We prove the statement in the title, adding the class of cosemisimple Hopf algebras to those known to be faithfully flat over all Hopf subalgebras. We also show that the third term of the resulting "exact sequence" $A\to H\to C$ is always a cosemisimple coalgebra, and that the expectation $H\to A$ is positive when $…
An elementary proof is given for the existence of infinite dimensional abelian subalgebras in quantum W-algebras. In suitable realizations these subalgebras define the conserved charges of various quantum integrable systems. We consider all principle W-algebras associated with the simple Lie algebras. The proof is based on the more general result that for a class of vertex operators the quantum operators are related to their classical counterparts by an equivalence transformation.
Given a simple vertex algebra A and a reductive group G of automorphisms of A, the invariant subalgebra A^G is strongly finitely generated in most examples where its structure is known. This phenomenon is subtle, and is generally not true of the classical limit of A^G, which often requires infinitely many generators and infinitely many relations to describe. Using tools from classical invariant theory, together with recent results on the structure of the W_{1+\infty} algebra, we establish the strong finite generation of a large family of invariant subalgebras of βγ-systems, bc-systems, and bcβ…
It is shown how certain idempotents in the Griess algebra generate the discrete series representations for the Virasoro algebra inside the Frenkel-Lepowsky-Meurman's moonshine module vertex operator algebra. It is also shown that each Niemeier lattice determines (in many ways) certain maximal associative subalgebras of the Griess algebra.
