We study the off-equilibrium relaxational dynamics at criticality in the three-dimensional Blume-Capel model whose static critical behaviour belongs to the 3d-Ising universality class. Using "improved" Hamiltonian (the leading corrections to scaling have vanishing amplitude) we perform Monte Carlo simulations of the relaxational dynamics after a quench from $T=\infty$ to $T_c$. Analysing the off-equilibrium dynamics at $T_c$ we obtain an estimate of the dynamical critical exponent $z=2.020(8)$ that is perfectly consistent with the Field Theory predictions.
Relaxational processes in ordered phases of one-dimensional Ising models with long-range interactions are investigated by Monte Carlo simulations. Three types of spin model, the pure ferromagnetic, the diluted ferromagnetic, and the spin glass models, are examined. The effective dimension of the one-dimensional systems are controlled by a parameter $σ$, which tunes the rate of interaction decay. Systematical investigations of droplet dynamics, from the lower to the upper critical dimension, are conducted by changing the value of $σ$. Comparing numerical data with the droplet theory, it is foun…
We study the purely relaxational dynamics (model A) at criticality in three-dimensional disordered Ising systems whose static critical behaviour belongs to the randomly diluted Ising universality class. We consider the site-diluted and bond-diluted Ising models, and the +- J Ising model along the paramagnetic-ferromagnetic transition line. We perform Monte Carlo simulations at the critical point using the Metropolis algorithm and study the dynamic behaviour in equilibrium at various values of the disorder parameter. The results provide a robust evidence of the existence of a unique model-A dyn…
We compute the dynamic structure factor for the Ising model with a purely relaxational dynamics (model A). We perform a perturbative calculation in the $ε$ expansion, at two loops in the high-temperature phase and at one loop in the temperature magnetic-field plane, and a Monte Carlo simulation in the high-temperature phase. We find that the dynamic structure factor is very well approximated by its mean-field Gaussian form up to moderately large values of the frequency $ω$ and momentum $k$. In the region we can investigate, $kξ\lesssim 5$, $ωτ\lesssim 10$, where $ξ$ is the correlation length a…
We investigate how the scaling behavior of finite systems at magnetic first-order transitions (FOTs) with relaxational dynamics changes in correspondence of various boundary conditions. As a theoretical laboratory we consider the two-dimensional Ising model in the low-temperature phase. When the boundary conditions do not favor any specific phase of the system, we show that a dynamic finite-size scaling (DFSS) theory can be developed to describe the dynamic behavior in the coexistence region, where different phases coexist. When the boundary conditions at two opposite sides of the system gener…
The off-equilibrium purely dissipative dynamics (Model A) of the O(N) vector model is considered at criticality in an $ε= 4- d > 0$ up to O($ε^2$). The scaling behavior of two-time response and correlation functions at zero momentum, the associated universal scaling functions, and the nontrivial limit of the fluctuation-dissipation ratio are determined in the aging regime.
We investigate nonequilibrium relaxations of Ising models at the critical point by using a cluster update. While preceding studies imply that nonequilibrium cluster-flip dynamics at the critical point are universally described by the stretched-exponential function, we find that the dynamics changes from the stretched-exponential to the power function as the dimensionality is increased: The two-, three-, four-, and infinite-dimensional Ising models are numerically studied, and the four- and infinite-dimensional Ising models exhibit the power-law relaxation. We also show that the finite-size sca…
We consider the out-of-equilibrium, purely relaxational dynamics of a weakly diluted Ising model in the aging regime at criticality. We derive at first order in a $\sqrtε$ expansion the two-time response and correlation functions for vanishing momenta. The long-time limit of the critical fluctuation-dissipation ratio is computed at the same order in perturbation theory.
Notwithstanding great strides that statistical mechanics has made in recent decades, an analytic solution of arguably the simplest model of relaxation dynamics, the Ising model in an applied external field remains elusive even in $1d$. Extant studies are based on numerics using single-spin-flip Glauber dynamics. There is no reason why this algorithm should lead to the global minimum energy state of the system. With this in mind, we explore multi-spin-flip parallel and sequential Glauber dynamics of Ising spins in $1d$ and also on a regular random graph of coordination number $z=3$. We view our…
We study purely dissipative relaxational dynamics in the three-dimensional Ising universality class. To this end, we simulate the improved Blume-Capel model on the simple cubic lattice by using local algorithms. We perform a finite size scaling analysis of the integrated autocorrelation time of the magnetic susceptibility in equilibrium at the critical point. We obtain $z=2.0245(15)$ for the dynamic critical exponent. As a complement, fully magnetized configurations are suddenly quenched to the critical temperature, giving consistent results for the dynamic critical exponent. Furthermore, our …
Driven quantum systems coupled to an environment typically exhibit effectively thermal behavior with relaxational dynamics near criticality. However, a different qualitative behavior might be expected in the weakly dissipative limit due to the competition between coherent dynamics and weak dissipation. In this work, we investigate a driven-dissipative infinite-range Ising model in the presence of individual atomic dissipation, a model that emerges from the paradigmatic open Dicke model in the large-detuning limit. We show that the system undergoes a dynamical crossover from relaxational dynami…
We discuss the effects of a trapping space-dependent potential on the critical dynamics of lattice gas models. Scaling arguments provide a dynamic trap-size scaling framework to describe how critical dynamics develops in the large trap-size limit. We present numerical results for the relaxational dynamics of a two-dimensional lattice gas (Ising) model in the presence of a harmonic trap, which support the dynamic trap-size scaling scenario.

We consider the three-dimensional randomly diluted Ising model and study the critical behavior of the static and dynamic spin-spin correlation functions (static and dynamic structure factors) at the paramagnetic-ferromagnetic transition in the high-temperature phase. We consider a purely relaxational dynamics without conservation laws, the so-called model A. We present Monte Carlo simulations and perturbative field-theoretical calculations. While the critical behavior of the static structure factor is quite similar to that occurring in pure Ising systems, the dynamic structure factor shows a s…
Several powerful machines, such as the D-Wave 2000Q, dedicated to solving combinatorial optimization problems through the Ising-model formulation have been developed. To input problems into the machines, the unknown parameters on the Ising model must be determined, and this is necessarily a nontrivial task. It could be beneficial to construct a method to estimate the parameters of the Ising model from several pairs of values of the energy and spin configurations. In the present paper, we propose a simple method employing the $L_1$-norm minimization, which is based on the concept of the compres…
We consider the translationally invariant but parity (left-right symmetry) breaking Ising chain Hamiltonian \begin{equation} {\cal H} = -U_2\sum_{k} s_{k}s_{k+1} - U_3\sum_{k} s_{k}s_{k+1}s_{k+3} \nonumber \end{equation} and let this system evolve by Kawasaki spin exchange dynamics. Monte Carlo simulations show that perturbations forcing this system off equilibrium make it act as a Brownian molecular motor which, in the lattice gas interpretation, transports particles along the chain. We determine the particle current under various different circumstances, in particular as a function of the ra…
We note that two formulations of dual gonihedric Ising models in 3d, one based on using Wegner's general framework for duality to construct a dual Hamiltonian for codimension one surfaces, the other on constructing a dual Hamiltonian for two-dimensional surfaces, are related by a variant of the standard decoration/iteration transformation. The dual Hamiltonian for two-dimensional surfaces contains a mixture of link and vertex spins and as a consequence possesses a gauge invariance which is inherited by the codimension one surface Hamiltonian. This gauge invariance ensures the latter is equival…
We address the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of many-body systems subject to slow time-dependent round-trip protocols across quantum and classical (thermal) phase transitions. We consider protocols where one relevant parameter w is slowly changed across its critical point wc = 0, linearly in time with a large time scale ts, from wi < 0 to wf > 0 and then back to wi < 0, thus entailing multiple passages through the critical point. Analogously to the one-way Kibble-Zurek protocols across a critical point, round-trip protocols develop dynamic scaling behaviors at both classical and quantum transiti…
By utilizing the framework of the effective-field theory with correlation, hysteresis and compensation behaviors of mixed spin-1 and spin-2 hexagonal Ising nanowire system is investigated in detail. The effects of Hamiltonian parameters on hysteresis behaviors are discussed, in detail. The compensation behavior of the system is also studied and according to values of Hamiltonian parameters, the Q-, S-, R- and N- type compensation behaviors is obtained in the system. Finally, the obtaining results are compared with some experimental and theoretical results and found in a qualitatively good agre…
In this paper, we theoretically study the critical properties of the classical spin-1 Ising model using two approaches: 1) the analytical low-temperature series expansion and 2) the numerical Metropolis Monte Carlo technique. Within this analysis, we discuss the critical behavior of one-, two- and three-dimensional systems modeled by the first-neighbor spin-1 Ising model for different types of exchange interactions. The comparison of the results obtained according the Metropolis Monte Carlo simulations allows us to highlight the limits of the widely used mean-field theory approach. We also sho…
In this paper, we review the physical concepts of the nonequilibrium techniques for the calculation of free energies applied to magnetic systems using Monte Carlo simulations of different nonequilibrium processes. The methodology allows the calculation of the free energy difference between two different system Hamiltonians, as well as the free energy dependence on temperature and magnetic field for a given Hamiltonian. As an illustration of the effectiveness of this approach, we apply the methodologies to determine the phase diagram of a simple microscopic model, the degenerate Ising model. Ou…
We extended the Broad Histogram Method in order to obtain spectral degeneracies for systems with multiparametric Hamiltonians. As examples we obtained the critical lines for the square lattice Ising model with nearest and next-nearest neighbor interactions and the antiferromagnetic Ising model in an external field. For each system, the entire critical line is obtained using data from a single computer run. We also discuss the accuracy and efficiency of our method.
The gonihedric Ising Hamiltonians defined in three and higher dimensions by Savvidy and Wegner provide an extensive, and little explored, catalogue of spin models on (hyper)cubic lattices with many interesting features. In three dimensions the kappa=0 gonihedric Ising model on a cubic lattice has been shown to possess a degenerate low-temperature phase and a first order phase transition, as well as interesting dynamical properties. The dual Hamiltonian to this may be written as an anisotropic Ashkin-Teller model and also has a degenerate low-temperature phase as a result of similar symmetries …
We develop a quantum-inspired numerical procedure for searching low-energy states of a classical Hamiltonian composed of two-body fully-connected random Ising interactions and a random local longitudinal magnetic field. In this method, we introduce infinitesimal quantum interactions that do not commute with the original Ising Hamiltonian, and repeatedly generate and truncate direct product states, inspired by the Krylov subspace method, to obtain the low-energy states of the original classical Ising Hamiltonian. The computational cost is controlled by the form of infinitesimal quantum interact…
It is discussed how the equilibrium properties of the Ising model are described by an Hamiltonian with an antiferromagnetic low temperature behavior if only an heat bath dynamics, with the characteristics of a Probabilistic Cellular Automaton, is assumed to determine the temporal evolution of the system.
We study the role of Hamiltonian complexity in the performance of quantum annealers. We consider two general classes of annealing Hamiltonians: stoquastic ones, which can be simulated efficiently using the quantum Monte Carlo algorithm, and nonstoquastic ones, which cannot be treated efficiently. We implement the latter by adding antiferromagnetically coupled two-spin driver terms to the traditionally studied transverse-field Ising model, and compare their performance to that of similar stoquastic Hamiltonians with ferromagnetically coupled additional terms. We focus on a model of long-range I…
We introduce a quantum generalization of classical kinetic Ising models, described by a certain class of quantum many body master equations. Similarly to kinetic Ising models with detailed balance that are equivalent to certain Hamiltonian systems, our models reduce to a set of Hamiltonian systems determining the dynamics of the elements of the many body density matrix. The ground states of these Hamiltonians are well described by matrix product, or pair entangled projected states. We discuss critical properties of such Hamiltonians, as well as entanglement properties of their low energy state…
Extensive Monte Carlo simulations in the semi-grand-canonical ensemble are used to study the critical behavior of a three-dimensional compressible Ising model with antiferromagnetic interactions under constant volume conditions. Elastic forces between spins are introduced by the Stillinger-Weber potential and energy parameters are chosen in such a way that antiparallel spin ordering is favored, analogous to the antiferromagnetic coupling in the rigid Ising Hamiltonian. All the quantities analyzed strongly indicate that the system remains in the universality class of the standard (rigid) three-…
We study the zero temperature quenching dynamics of various extensions of the transverse Ising model (TIM) when the transverse field is linearly quenched from $-\infty$ to $+\infty$ (or zero) at a finite and uniform rate. The rate of quenching is dictated by a characteristic scale given by $τ$. The density of kinks produced in these extended models while crossing the quantum critical points during the quenching process is calculated using a many body generalization of the Landau-Zener transition theory. The density of kinks in the final state is found to decay as $τ^{-1/2}$. In the first model…
Deformation of Ising Hamiltonian by means of replacing a site spin $s_i$ by $s_i^q$ and statistics generalization with help of the substituting deformed probability $p_i^q$ instead of $p_i$ are studied jointly within mean--field scheme. Such deformed model is shown to be related to the phase transition of the second order with unusual set of critical indices depending essentially on the deformation parameter $q$. Scaling relations turn out to be invariant with respect to the deformation.
Kinetic Ising models on the square lattice with both nearest-neighbor interactions and self-interaction are studied for the cases of random sequential updating and parallel updating. The equilibrium phase diagrams and critical dynamics are studied using Monte Carlo simulations and analytic approximations. The Hamiltonians appearing in the Gibbs distribution describing the equilibrium properties differs for sequential and parallel updating but in both cases feature multispin and non-nearest-neighbor couplings. For parallel updating the system is a probabilistic cellular automaton and the equili…
The strategy of shortcuts to adiabaticity enables us to realize adiabatic dynamics in finite time. In the counter-diabatic driving approach, an auxiliary Hamiltonian which is called the counter-diabatic Hamiltonian is appended to an original Hamiltonian to cancel out diabatic transitions. The counter-diabatic Hamiltonian is constructed by using the eigenstates of the original Hamiltonian. Therefore, it is in general difficult to construct the counter-diabatic Hamiltonian for quantum many-body systems. Even if the counter-diabatic Hamiltonian for quantum many-body systems is obtained, it is gen…
We propose a method to evaluate parameters in the Hamiltonian of the Ising chain under site-dependent transverse fields, with a proviso that we can control and measure one of the edge spins only. We evaluate the eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian and the time-evoultion operator exactly for a 3-spin chain, from which we obtain the expectation values of $σ_x$ of the first spin. The parameters are found from the peak positions of the Fourier transform of the expectation value. There are four assumptions in our method, which are mild enough to be satisfied in many physical systems.
The system undergoes adiabatic evolution when its population in the instantaneous eigenbasis of its time-dependent Hamiltonian changes only negligibly. Realization of such dynamics requires slow-enough changes of the parameters of the Hamiltonian, a task that can be hard to achieve near quantum critical points. A powerful alternative is provided by the counterdiabatic modification of the Hamiltonian allowing for an arbitrarily quick implementation of the adiabatic dynamics. Such a counterdiabatic driving protocol has been recently proposed for the quantum Ising model [A. del Campo et al., Phys…
We propose a method to obtain an improved Hamiltonian (action) for the Ising universality class in three dimensions. The improved Hamiltonian has suppressed leading corrections to scaling. It is obtained by tuning models with two coupling constants. We studied three different models: the +1,-1 Ising model with nearest neighbour and body diagonal interaction, the spin-1 model with states 0,+1,-1, and nearest neighbour interaction, and phi**4-theory on the lattice (Landau-Ginzburg Hamiltonian). The remarkable finite size scaling properties of the suitably tuned spin-1 model are compared in detai…
Ising spin Hamiltonians are often used to encode a computational problem in their ground states. Quantum Annealing (QA) computing searches for such a state by implementing a slow time-dependent evolution from an easy-to-prepare initial state to a low energy state of a target Ising Hamiltonian of quantum spins, $H_I$. Here, we point to the existence of an analytical solution for such a problem for an arbitrary $H_I$ beyond the adiabatic limit for QA. This solution provides insights into the accuracy of nonadiabatic computations. Our QA protocol in the pseudo-adiabatic regime leads to a monotoni…
We study the non-equilibrium dynamics due to slowly taking a quasiperiodic Hamiltonian across its quantum critical point. The special quasiperiodic Hamiltonian that we study here has two different types of critical lines belonging to two different universality classes, one of them being the well known quantum Ising universality class. In this paper, we verify the Kibble Zurek scaling which predicts a power law scaling of the density of defects generated as a function of the rate of variation of the Hamiltonian. The exponent of this power law is related to the equilibrium critical exponents ass…

We consider the stochastic dynamics of Ising ferromagnets (either pure or random) near zero temperature. The master equation satisfying detailed balance can be mapped onto a quantum Hamiltonian which has an exact zero-energy ground state representing the thermal equilibrium. The largest relaxation time $t_{eq}$ governing the convergence towards this Boltzmann equilibrium in finite-size systems is determined by the lowest non-vanishing eigenvalue $E_1=1/t_{eq}$ of the quantum Hamiltonian $H$. We introduce and study a real-space renormalization procedure for the quantum Hamiltonian associated to…
We study the onset of eigenstate thermalization in the two-dimensional transverse field Ising model (2D-TFIM) in the square lattice. We consider two non-equivalent Hamiltonians: the ferromagnetic 2D-TFIM and the antiferromagnetic 2D-TFIM in the presence of a uniform longitudinal field. We use full exact diagonalization to examine the behavior of quantum chaos indicators and of the diagonal matrix elements of operators of interest in the eigenstates of the Hamiltonian. A finite size scaling analysis reveals that quantum chaos and eigenstate thermalization occur in those systems whenever the fie…
In contrast to lattice systems where powerful numerical techniques such as matrix product state based methods are available to study the non-equilibrium dynamics, the non-equilibrium behaviour of continuum systems is much harder to simulate. We demonstrate here that Hamiltonian truncation methods can be efficiently applied to this problem, by studying the quantum quench dynamics of the 1+1 dimensional Ising field theory using a truncated free fermionic space approach. After benchmarking the method with integrable quenches corresponding to changing the mass in a free Majorana fermion field theo…

For arbitrary Ising-like models of any dimension and Hamiltonians with a finite support with all possible multispin interactions and boundary conditions with a shift, the exact value of the free energy in the thermodynamic limit is obtained at some parametrically specified set of multispin interaction coefficients. In this case, half of the multispin interaction coefficients and the coordinates of the special eigenvector corresponding to the largest eigenvalue of the elementary transfer matrix are parameters, and the second half of the multispin coefficients is calculated using simple explicit…
We study a quantum double model whose degrees of freedom are Ising anyons. The terms of the Hamiltonian of this system give rise to a competition between single and double topologies. By studying the energy spectra of the Hamiltonian at different values of the coupling constants, we find extended gapless regions which include a large number of critical points described by conformal field theories with central charge c=1. These theories are part of the Z_2 orbifold of the bosonic theory compactified on a circle. We observe that the Hilbert space of our anyonic model can be associated with exten…
We study the relaxational critical dynamics of the three-dimensional random anisotropy magnets with the non-conserved n-component order parameter coupled to a conserved scalar density. In the random anisotropy magnets the structural disorder is present in a form of local quenched anisotropy axes of random orientation. When the anisotropy axes are randomly distributed along the edges of the n-dimensional hypercube, asymptotical dynamical critical properties coincide with those of the random-site Ising model. However structural disorder gives rise to considerable effects for non-asymptotic criti…
We study Ising chains with arbitrary multispin finite-range couplings, providing an explicit solution of the associated inverse Ising problem, i.e. the problem of inferring the values of the coupling constants from the correlation functions. As an application, we reconstruct the couplings of chain Ising Hamiltonians having exponential or power-law two-spin plus three- or four-spin couplings. The generalization of the method to ladders and to Ising systems where a mean-field interaction is added to general finite-range couplings is as well as discussed.
A non-hermitian deformation of the one-dimensional transverse Ising model is shown to have the property of quasi-hermiticity. The transverse Ising chain is obtained from the starting non-hermitian Hamiltonian through a similarity transformation. Consequently, both the models have identical eigen-spectra, although the eigen-functions are different. The metric in the Hilbert space, which makes the non-hermitian model unitary and ensures the completeness of states, has been constructed explicitly. Although the longitudinal correlation functions are identical for both the non-hermitian and the her…
Ising models on a pyrochlore oxide lattice are usually associated with spin ice materials and "magnetic monopoles". Ever more often effects connecting magnetic and elastic degrees of freedom are reported on these and other related frustrated materials. Here we extend a spin-ice Hamiltonian to include coupling between spins and the O$^{-2}$ ions mediating superexchange; we call it the Magnetoelastic Spin Ice model (MeSI). There has been a long search for a model in which monopoles would spontaneously become the building blocks of new ground-states: the MeSI Hamiltonian is such a model. In spite…
Ground state of the one-dimensional transverse field Ising model is investigated under the hyperbolic deformation, where the energy scale of j-th bond is proportional to the function \cosh ( j λ) that contains a parameter λ. Although the Hamiltonian is position dependent, the ground state is nearly uniform and finitely correlated. We observe the energy cross over between the ordered and disordered state with respect to the transverse field. The model shows first order phase transition, and the discontinuities in the magnetization and entanglement entropy at the transition point detect the Isin…
Quantum and classical physics can be used for mathematical computations that are hard to tackle by conventional electronics. Very recently, optical Ising machines have been demonstrated for computing the minima of spin Hamiltonians, paving the way to new ultra-fast hardware for machine learning. However, the proposed systems are either tricky to scale or involve a limited number of spins. We design and experimentally demonstrate a large-scale optical Ising machine based on a simple setup with a spatial light modulator. By encoding the spin variables in a binary phase modulation of the field, w…
We investigate the interface dynamics of the two-dimensional stochastic Ising model in an external field under helicoidal boundary conditions. At sufficiently low temperatures and fields, the dynamics of the interface is described by an exactly solvable high-spin asymmetric quantum Hamiltonian that is the infinitesimal generator of the zero range process. Generally, the critical dynamics of the interface fluctuations is in the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang universality class of critical behavior. We remark that a whole family of RSOS interface models similar to the Ising interface model investigated her…
Frustration represents an essential feature in the behavior of magnetic materials when constraints on the microscopic Hamiltonian cannot be satisfied simultaneously. This gives rise to exotic phases of matter including spin liquids, spin ices, and stripe phases. Here we demonstrate an approach to understanding the microscopic effects of frustration by computing the phases of a 468-spin Shastry-Sutherland Ising Hamiltonian using a quantum annealer. Our approach uses mean-field boundary conditions to mitigate effects of finite size and defects alongside an iterative quantum annealing protocol to…
We investigate a lattice version of the Yang-Lee model which is characterized by a non-Hermitian quantum spin chain Hamiltonian. We propose a new way to implement PT-symmetry on the lattice, which serves to guarantee the reality of the spectrum in certain regions of values of the coupling constants. In that region of unbroken PT-symmetry we construct a Dyson map, a metric operator and find the Hermitian counterpart of the Hamiltonian for small values of the number of sites, both exactly and perturbatively. Besides the standard perturbation theory about the Hermitian part of the Hamiltonian, we…
For classical lattice systems with finite (Ising) spins, we show that the implementation of momentum-space renormalization at the level of Hamiltonians runs into the same type of difficulties as found for real-space transformations: Renormalized Hamiltonians are ill-defined in certain regions of the phase diagram.
