This paper is devoted to a description of integrable Hamiltonian hydrodynamic chains associated with Dorfman Poisson brackets. Three main classes of these hydrodynamic chains are selected. Generating functions of conservation laws and commuting flows are found. Hierarchies of these Hamiltonian hydrodynamic chains are extended on negative moments and negative time variables. Corresponding three dimensional quasilinear equations of the second order are presented.
A hierarchy of commutative Poisson subalgebras for the Sklyanin bracket is proposed. Each of the subalgebras provides a complete set of integrals in involution with respect to the Sklyanin bracket. Using different representations of the bracket, we find some integrable models and a separation of variables for them. The models obtained are deformations of known integrable systems like the Goryachev-Chaplygin top, the Toda lattice and the Heisenberg model.
We introduce a family of compatible Poisson brackets on the space of rational functions with denominator of a fixed degree and use it to derive a multi-Hamiltonian structure for a family of integrable lattice equations that includes both the standard and the relativistic Toda lattices.
The closed string model in the background gravity field is considered as the bi-Hamiltonian system in assumption that string model is the integrable model for particular kind of the background fields. The dual nonlocal Poisson brackets, de pending of the background fields and of there derivatives, are obtained. The integrability condition is formulated as compatibility of the bi-Hamiltonity con dition and the Jacobi identity of the dual Poisson bracket. Two types of the non local brackets are introduced. Constant curvature and time-dependent metrics are considered, as example. It is, shown tha…
In the present work, the integrable bi-Hamiltonian hierarchies related to compatible nonlocal Poisson brackets of hydrodynamic type are effectively constructed. For achieving this aim, first of all, the problem on the canonical form of a special type for compatible nonlocal Poisson brackets of hydrodynamic type is solved.
In this paper, we present Poisson brackets of certain classes of mappings obtained as general periodic reductions of integrable lattice equations. The Poisson brackets are derived using the so called Ostrogradsky transformation.
We introduce a family of compatible Poisson brackets on the space of $2\times 2$ polynomial matrices, which contains the Sklyanin bracket, and use it to derive a multi-Hamiltonian structure for a set of integrable systems that includes $XXX$ Heisenberg magnet, the open and periodic Toda lattices, the discrete self-trapping model and the Goryachev-Chaplygin gyrostat.
Necessary and sufficient conditions for an existence of the Poisson brackets significantly simplify in the Liouville coordinates. The corresponding equations can be integrated. Thus, a description of local Hamiltonian structures is a first step in a description of integrable hydrodynamic chains. The concept of $M$ Poisson bracket is introduced. Several new Poisson brackets are presented.
We solve the problem of reducing to the simplest and convenient for our purposes, canonical form for an arbitrary pair of compatible nonlocal Poisson brackets of hydrodynamic type generated by metrics of constant Riemannian curvature in order to get an effective construction of the integrable hierarchies related to all these compatible Poisson brackets.
We characterize a class of integrable Hamiltonian hydrodynamic chains, based on the necessary condition for the integrability provided by the vanishing of the Haantjes tensor. We prove that the vanishing of the first few components of the Haantjes tensor is already sufficiently restrictive, and allows a complete description of the corresponding Hamiltonian densities. In each of the cases we were able to explicitly construct a generating function for conservation laws, thus establishing the integrability.
The closed string model in the background gravity field is considered as a bi-Hamiltonian system in assumption that string model is the integrable model for particular kind of the background fields. The dual nonlocal Poisson brackets(PB), depending of the background fields and of their derivatives, are obtained. The integrability condition is formulated as the compatibility of the bi-Hamiltonity condition and the Jacobi identity of the dual PB. It is shown that the dual brackets and dual Hamiltonians can be obtained from the canonical PB and from the initial Hamiltonian by imposing the second …
We introduce a family of compatible Poisson brackets on the space of $2\times 2$ polynomial matrices, which contains the reflection equation algebra bracket. Then we use it to derive a multi-Hamiltonian structure for a set of integrable systems that includes the $XXX$ Heisenberg magnet with boundary conditions, the generalized Toda lattices and the Kowalevski top.
The nonlinear equations for the general nonsingular pairs of compatible nonlocal Poisson brackets of hydrodynamic type are derived and the integrability of these equations by the method of inverse scattering problem is proved. For these equations, the Lax pairs with a spectral parameter are presented. Moreover, we demonstrate the integrability of the equations for some especially important partial classes of compatible nonlocal Poisson brackets of hydrodynamic type, in particular, for the most important case when one of the compatible Poisson brackets is local and also for the case when one of…
Compatible local differential-geometric Poisson brackets of the first order (Dubrovin-Novikov type) are classified by solutions of modified Sinh-Gordon equation. It was proved by E.V. Ferapontov. In this paper integrable system describing compatible non-local differential-geometric Poisson brackets of the first order (Ferapontov type) is presented in case when one metric is flat and another one has co-dimension 1. This is a reduction of the Cherednik model (chiral fields).
Poisson brackets between conserved quantities are a fundamental tool in the theory of integrable systems. The subclass of weakly nonlocal Poisson brackets occurs in many significant integrable systems. Proving that a weakly nonlocal differential operator defines a Poisson bracket can be challenging. We propose a computational approach to this problem through the identification of such operators with superfunctions on supermanifolds.
Generalizing a construction of P. Vanhaecke, we introduce a large class of degenerate (i.e., associated to a degenerate Poisson bracket) completely integrable systems on (a dense subset of) the space $\R^{2d+n+1}$, called the generalized master systems. It turns out that certain generalized master systems (with different Poisson brackets and different Hamiltonians) determine the same Hamiltonian vector fields (and are therefore different descriptions of the same Hamiltonian system), and that the Poisson brackets of these systems are compatible. Consequently, our class of generalized master sys…
We consider a special class of linear and quadratic Poisson brackets related to ODE systems with matrix variables. We investigate general properties of such brackets, present an example of a compatible pair of quadratic and linear brackets and found the corresponding hierarchy of integrable models, which generalizes the two-component Manakov's matrix system in the case of arbitrary number of matrices.
Nambu's construction of multi-linear brackets for super-integrable systems can be thought of as degenerate Poisson brackets with a maximal set of Casimirs in their kernel. By introducing privileged coordinates in phase space these degenerate Poisson brackets are brought to the form of Heisenberg's equations. We propose a definition for constructing quantum operators for classical functions which enables us to turn the maximally degenerate Poisson brackets into operators. They pose a set of eigenvalue problems for a new state vector. The requirement of the single valuedness of this eigenfunctio…
We introduce the concept of multisymplectic formalism, familiar in covariant field theory, for the study of integrable defects in 1+1 classical field theory. The main idea is the coexistence of two Poisson brackets, one for each spacetime coordinate. The Poisson bracket corresponding to the time coordinate is the usual one describing the time evolution of the system. Taking the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation as an example, we introduce the new bracket associated to the space coordinate. We show that, in the absence of any defect, the two brackets yield completely equivalent Hamiltonian d…
In this article we present a Lagrangian representation for evolutionary systems with a Hamiltonian structure determined by a differential-geometric Poisson bracket of the first order associated with metrics of constant curvature. Kaup-Boussinesq system has three local Hamiltonian structures and one nonlocal Hamiltonian structure associated with metric of constant curvature. Darboux theorem (reducing Hamiltonian structures to canonical form ''d/dx'' by differential substitutions and reciprocal transformations) for these Hamiltonian structures is proved.
We construct the $W_{1+\infty}$ 3-algebra and investigate the relation between this infinite-dimensional 3-algebra and the integrable systems. Since the $W_{1+\infty}$ 3-algebra with a fixed generator $W^0_0$ in the operator Nambu 3-bracket recovers the $W_{1+\infty}$ algebra, it is natural to derive the KP hierarchy from the Nambu-Poisson evolution equation. For the general case of the $W_{1+\infty}$ 3-algebra, we directly derive the KP and KdV equations from the Nambu-Poisson evolution equation with the different Hamiltonian pairs. We also discuss the connection between the $W_{1+\infty}$ 3-…
Deformations of the known polynomial Poisson pencils associated with the Kowalevski top are studied. As a result we find new variables of separation from the one of the Yehia systems and new bi-Hamiltonian description of the integrable deformation of the Kowalevski gyrostat in two fields proposed by Sokolov and Tsiganov.
We consider the pairs of general weakly non-local Poisson brackets of Hydrodynamic Type (Ferapontov brackets) and the corresponding integrable hierarchies. We show that under the requirement of non-degeneracy of the corresponding "first" pseudo-Riemannian metric $g_{(0)}^{νμ}$ and also some non-degeneracy requirement for the nonlocal part it is possible to introduce a "canonical" set of "integrable hierarchies" based on the Casimirs, Momentum functional and some "Canonical Hamiltonian functions". We prove also that all the "Higher" "positive" Hamiltonian operators and the "negative" symplectic…
Ideas from the theory of multisymplectic systems, introduced recently in integrable systems by the author and Kundu to discuss Liouville integrability in classical field theories with a defect, are applied to the sine-Gordon model. The key ingredient is the introduction of a second Poisson bracket in the theory that allows for a Hamiltonian description of the model that is completely equivalent to the standard one, in the absence of a defect. In the presence of a defect described by frozen Bäcklund transformations, our approach based on the new bracket unifies the various tools used so far to …
Takhtajan has recently studied the consistency conditions for Nambu brackets, and suggested that they have to be skew-symmetric, and satisfy Leibnitz rule and the Fundamental Identity (FI, it is a generalization of the Jacobi identity). If the n'th order Nambu brackets in dimension N is written in terms of the Nambu tensor η, the FI implies two conditions on it, one algebraic and one differential. The algebraic part of FI implies decomposability of ηand in this letter we show that the Nambu bracket can then be written in terms of the usual totally antisymmetric n-dimensional tensor and n vecto…
We review the recent approach to the construction of (3+1)-dimensional integrable dispersionless partial differential systems based on their contact Lax pairs and the related $R$-matrix theory for the Lie algebra of functions with respect to the contact bracket. We discuss various kinds of Lax representations for such systems, in particular, linear nonisospectral contact Lax pairs and nonlinear contact Lax pairs as well as the relations among the two. Finally, we present a large number of examples with finite and infinite number of dependent variables, as well as the reductions of these exampl…
A two-dimensional integrable system being a deformation of the rational Calogero-Moser system is constructed via the symplectic reduction, performed with respect to the Sklyanin algebra action. We explicitly resolve the respective classical equations of motion via the projection method and quantize the system.
We implement an algorithm for the computation of Schouten bracket of weakly nonlocal Hamiltonian operators in three different computer algebra systems: Maple, Reduce and Mathematica. This class of Hamiltonian operators encompass almost all the examples coming from the theory of (1+1)-integrable evolutionary PDEs
Using classical double G of a Lie algebra g equipped with a classical R-operator we define two sets of mutually commuting functions with respect to the initial Lie-Poisson bracket on g* and its extensions. We consider in details examples of the Lie algebras g with the "Adler--Kostant--Symes" R-operators and the corresponding two sets of mutually commuting functions. Using the constructed commutative hamiltonian flows on different extensions of g we obtain zero-curvature equations with g-valued U-V pairs. Among such the equations are so-called "negative flows" of soliton hierarchies. We illlust…
We show how there is associated to each non-constant polynomial $F(x,y)$ a completely integrable system with polynomial invariants on $\Rd$ and on $\C{2d}$ for each $d\geq1$; in fact the invariants are not only in involution for one Poisson bracket, but for a large class of polynomial Poisson brackets, indexed by the family of polynomials in two variables. We show that the complex invariant manifolds are isomorphic to affine parts of $d$-fold symmetric products of a deformation of the algebraic curve $F(x,y)=0$, and derive the structure of the real invariant manifolds from it. We also exhibit …
We discuss trivial deformations of the canonical Poisson brackets associated with the Toda lattices, relativistic Toda lattices, Henon-Heiles, rational Calogero-Moser and Ruijsenaars-Schneider systems and apply one of these deformations to construct a new trivial family of noncommutative integrable systems.
Linear Poisson brackets on e(3) typical of rigid body dynamics are considered. All quadratic Hamiltonians of Kowalevski type having additional first integral of fourth degree are found. Quantum analogs of these Hamiltonians are listed.
In this paper we relate the geometric Poisson brackets on the Grassmannian of 2-planes in R^4 and on the (2,2) Moebius sphere. We show that, when written in terms of local moving frames, the geometric Poisson bracket on the Moebius sphere does not restrict to the space of differential invariants of Schwarzian type. But when the concept of conformal natural frame is transported from the conformal sphere into the Grassmannian, and the Poisson bracket is written in terms of the Grassmannian natural frame, it restricts and results into either a decoupled system or a complexly coupled system of KdV…
In field theories one often works with the functionals which are integrals of some densities. These densities are defined up to divergence terms (boundary terms). A Poisson bracket of two functionals is also a functional, i.e., an integral of a density. Suppose the divergence term in the density of the Poisson bracket be fixed so that it becomes a bilinear form of densities of two functionals. Then the left-hand side of the Jacobi identity written in terms of densities is not necessarily zero but a divergence of a trilinear form. The question is: what can be said about this trilinear form, wha…
Recently, a hydrodynamic description of local equilibrium dynamics in quantum integrable systems was discovered. In the diffusionless limit, this is equivalent to a certain "Bethe-Boltzmann" kinetic equation, which has the form of an integro-differential conservation law in $(1+1)$D. The purpose of the present work is to investigate the sense in which the Bethe-Boltzmann equation defines an "integrable kinetic equation". To this end, we study a class of $N$ dimensional systems of evolution equations that arise naturally as finite-dimensional approximations to the Bethe-Boltzmann equation. We o…
Discretizations of the Euler top sharing the integrals of motion with the continuous time system are studied. Those of them which are also Poisson with respect to the invariant Poisson bracket of the Euler top are characterized. For all these Poisson discretizations a solution in terms of elliptic functions is found, allowing a direct comparison with the continuous time case. We demonstrate that the Veselov--Moser discretization also belongs to our family, and apply our methods to this particular example.
New approach in classification of integrable hydrodynamic chains is established. This is the method of the Hamiltonian hydrodynamic reductions. Simultaneously, this approach yields explicit Hamiltonian hydrodynamic reductions of the Hamiltonian hydrodynamic chains. The concept of reducible Poisson brackets is established. Also this approach is useful for non-Hamiltonian hydrodynamic chains. The deformed Benney hydrodynamic chain is considered.
We discuss the Lie Poisson groups structures associated to splittings of the loop group LGL(N), due to Sklyanin. Concentrating on the finite dimensional leaves of the associated Poisson structure, we show that the geometry of the leaves is intimately related to a complex algebraic ruled surface with a C^*-invariant Poisson structure. In particular, Sklyanin's Lie Poisson structure admits a suitable abelianisation, once one passes to an appropriate spectral curve. The Sklyanin structure is then equivalent to one considered by Mukai, Tyurin and Bottacin on a moduli space of sheaves on the Poisso…
The $6 = 3\times 2$ huge Lie algebra $Ξ$ of all local and non local differential operators on a circle is applied to the standard Adler-Kostant-Symes (AKS) R-bracket sckeme. It is shown in particular that there exist three additional Lie structures, associated to three graded modified classical Yang-Baxter(GMCYB) equations. As we know from the standard case, these structures can be used to classify in a more consitent way a wide class of integrable systems. Other algebraic properties are also presented.
For the Hamiltonian integrable systems governed by SL(2)-invariant r-matrix (such as Heisenberg magnet, Toda lattice, nonlinear Schroedinger equation) a general procedure for constructing Baecklund transformation is proposed. The corresponding BT is shown to preserve the Poisson bracket. The proof is given by a direct calculation using the r-matrix expression for the Poisson bracket.
We introduce spin Calogero-Moser systems associated with root systems of simple Lie algebras and give the associated Lax representations (with spectral parameter) and fundamental Poisson bracket relations. The associated integrable models (called integrable spin Calogero-Moser systems in the paper) and their Lax pairs are then obtained via Poisson reduction and gauge transformations. For Lie algebras of $A_{n}$-type, this new class of integrable systems includes the usual Calogero-Moser systems as subsystems. Our method is guided by a general framework which we develop here using dynamical Lie…
Motivated by the notion of Lagrangian multiforms, which provide a Lagrangian formulation of integrability, and by results of the authors on the role of covariant Hamiltonian formalism for integrable field theories, we propose the notion of Hamiltonian multiforms for integrable $1+1$-dimensional field theories. They provide the Hamiltonian counterpart of Lagrangian multiforms and encapsulate in a single object an arbitrary number of flows within an integrable hierarchy. For a given hierarchy, taking a Lagrangian multiform as starting point, we provide a systematic construction of a Hamiltonian …
The connection of orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle (OPUC) to the defocusing Ablowitz-Ladik integrable system involves the definition of a Poisson structure on the space of Verblunsky coefficients. In this paper, we compute the complete set of Poisson brackets for the monic orthogonal and the orthonormal polynomials on the unit circle, as well as for the second kind polynomials and the Wall polynomials. This answers a question posed by Cantero and Simon for the case of measures with finite support. We also show that the results hold for the case of measures with periodic Verblunsky coe…
Hamiltonian systems of hydrodynamic type occur in a wide range of applications including fluid dynamics, the Whitham averaging procedure and the theory of Frobenius manifolds. In 1+1 dimensions, the requirement of the integrability of such systems by the generalised hodograph transform implies that integrable Hamiltonians depend on a certain number of arbitrary functions of two variables. On the contrary, in 2+1 dimensions the requirement of the integrability by the method of hydrodynamic reductions, which is a natural analogue of the generalised hodograph transform in higher dimensions, leads…
We construct a Poisson map between manifolds with linear Poisson brackets corresponding to the Lie algebras $e(3)$ and $so(4)$. Using this map we establish a connection between the deformed Kowalevski top on $e(3)$ proposed by Sokolov and the Kowalevski top on $so(4)$. The connection between these systems leads to the separation of variables for the deformed system on $e(3)$ and yields the natural $5\times 5$ Lax pair for the Kowalevski top on $so(4)$.
A moving parallel frame method is applied to geometric non-stretching curve flows in the Hermitian symmetric space Sp(n)/U(n) to derive new integrable systems with unitary invariance. These systems consist of a bi-Hamiltonian modified Korteweg-de Vries equation and a Hamiltonian sine-Gordon (SG) equation, involving a scalar variable coupled to a complex vector variable. The Hermitian structure of the symmetric space Sp(n)/U(n) is used in a natural way from the beginning in formulating a complex matrix representation of the tangent space sp(n)/u(n) and its bracket relations within the symmetric…
Double (quasi-)Poisson algebras were introduced by Van den Bergh as non-commutative analogues of algebras endowed with a (quasi-)Poisson bracket. In this work, we provide a study of morphisms of double (quasi-)Poisson algebras, which we relate to the $H_0$-Poisson structures of Crawley-Boevey. We prove in particular that the double (quasi-)Poisson algebra structure defined by Van den Bergh for an arbitrary quiver only depends upon the quiver seen as an undirected graph, up to isomorphism. We derive from our results a representation theoretic description of action-angle duality for several clas…
The real homogeneous Monge-Ampère equation in one space and one time dimensions admits infinitely many Hamiltonian operators and is completely integrable by Magri's theorem. This remarkable property holds in arbitrary number of dimensions as well, so that among all integrable nonlinear evolution equations the real homogeneous Monge-Ampère equation is distinguished as one that retains its character as an integrable system in multi-dimensions. This property can be traced back to the appearance of arbitrary functions in the Lagrangian formulation of the real homogeneous Monge-Ampère equation whic…
We present a formula for a classical $r$-matrix of an integrable system obtained by Hamiltonian reduction of some free field theories using pure gauge symmetries. The framework of the reduction is restricted only by the assumption that the respective gauge transformations are Lie group ones. Our formula is in terms of Dirac brackets, and some new observations on these brackets are made. We apply our method to derive a classical $r$-matrix for the elliptic Calogero-Moser system with spin starting from the Higgs bundle over an elliptic curve with marked points. In the paper we also derive a clas…
In this paper we will discuss some features of the bihamiltonian method for solving the Hamilton-Jacobi (H-J) equations by Separation of Variables, and make contact with the theory of Algebraic Complete Integrability and, specifically, with the Veselov--Novikov notion of algebro-geometric (AG) Poisson brackets. The "bihamiltonian" method for separating the Hamilton-Jacobi equations is based on the notion of pencil of Poisson brackets and on the Gel'fand-Zakharevich (GZ) approach to integrable systems. We will herewith show how, quite naturally, GZ systems may give rise to AG Poisson brackets, …
The purpose of this paper is to develop the negative order MKdV hierarchy and to present a new related integrable Neumann-like Hamiltonian flow from the view point of inverse recursion operator and constraint method. The whole MKdV hierarchy both positive and negative is generated by the kernel elements of Lenard's operators pair and recursion operator. Through solving a key operator equation, the whole MKdV hierarchy is shown to have the Lax representation. In particular, some new integrable equation together with the Liouville equations, the sine-Gordon equation, and the sinh-Gordon equation…
We consider a class of map, recently derived in the context of cluster mutation. In this paper we start with a brief review of the quiver context, but then move onto a discussion of a related Poisson bracket, along with the Poisson algebra of a special family of functions associated with these maps. A bi-Hamiltonian structure is derived and used to construct a sequence of Poisson commuting functions and hence show complete integrability. Canonical coordinates are derived, with the map now being a canonical transformation with a sequence of commuting invariant functions. Compatibility of a pair…
The theory of triples of Poisson brackets and related integrable systems, based on a classical R-matrix R in End_F(g), where g is a finite dimensional associative algebra over a field F viewed as a Lie algebra, was developed by Oevel-Ragnisco and Li-Parmentier [OR89,LP89]. In the present paper we develop an "affine" analogue of this theory by introducing the notion of a continuous Poisson vertex algebra and constructing triples of Poisson lambda-brackets. We introduce the corresponding Adler type identities and apply them to integrability of hierarchies of Hamiltonian PDEs.
We investigate multi-dimensional Hamiltonian systems associated with constant Poisson brackets of hydrodynamic type. A complete list of two- and three-component integrable Hamiltonians is obtained. All our examples possess dispersionless Lax pairs and an infinity of hydrodynamic reductions.
The Hamiltonian methods of the theory of solitons are applied to gravisolitons in the dressing formalism. The Poisson bracket for the Lie-algebra valued one-form $A(ς, η, γ)=Ψ_{,γ}Ψ^{-1}$, for gravisolitons in the dressing formalism, for a specific background solution, is defined and computed, agreeing with results previously obtained. A transition matrix ${\cal T}=A(ς, η, γ) A^{-1}(η, ξ, -γ)$ for $A$ is defined relating $A$ at ingoing and outgoing light cones. It is proved that it satisfies equations familiar from integrable pde's with the role of time played by the null coordinate $η$. This …
In this paper we extensively study the notion of Hamiltonian structure for nonabelian differential-difference systems, exploring the link between the different algebraic (in terms of double Poisson algebras and vertex algebras) and geometric (in terms of nonabelian Poisson bivectors) definitions. We introduce multiplicative double Poisson vertex algebras (PVAs) as the suitable noncommutative counterpart to multiplicative PVAs, used to describe Hamiltonian differential-difference equations in the commutative setting, and prove that these algebras are in one-to-one correspondence with the Poisso…
We consider nonlinear recurrences generated from cluster mutations applied to quivers that have the property of being cluster mutation-periodic with period 1. Such quivers were completely classified by Fordy and Marsh, who characterised them in terms of the skew-symmetric matrix that defines the quiver. The associated nonlinear recurrences are equivalent to birational maps, and we explain how these maps can be endowed with an invariant Poisson bracket and/or presymplectic structure. Upon applying the algebraic entropy test, we are led to a series of conjectures which imply that the entropy of …
