We consider filtrations of objects in an abelian category $\catA$ induced by a tilting object $T$ of homological dimension at most two. We define three disjoint subcategories with no maps between them in one direction, such that each object has a unique filtation with factors in these categories. This filtration coincides with the the classical two-step filtration induced by torsion pairs in dimension one. We also give a refined filtration, using the derived equivalence between the derived categories of $\catA$ and the module category of $End_\catA (T)^{op}$. The factors of this filtration consist of kernel and cokernels of maps between objects which are quasi-isomorphic to shifts of $End_\catA (T)^{op}$-modules via the derived equivalence $\mathbb{R}Hom_\catA(T,-)$.
The space of homomorphisms from a projective object to a Verma module in category O inherits an induced filtration from the Jantzen filtration on the Verma module. On the other hand there is the Andersen filtration on the space of homomorphisms from a Verma module to a tilting module as described in [Soe07]. The tilting equivalence from [Soe98] induces an isomorphism of these kinds of Hom-spaces. We will show that this equivalence even identifies both filtrations.
In this paper the authors produce a projective indecomposable module for the Frobenius kernel of a simple algebraic group in characteristic $p$ that is not the restriction of an indecomposable tilting module. This yields a counterexample to Donkin's longstanding Tilting Module Conjecture. The authors also produce a Weyl module that does not admit a $p$-Weyl filtration. This answers an old question of Jantzen, and also provides a counterexample to the $(p,r)$-Filtration Conjecture.
Let $U_l$ be a quantum group at an $l$th root of unity. Many tilting modules for $U_l$ have been shown to have what we call a balanced semisimple filtration, or a Loewy series whose semisimple layers are symmetric about some middle layer. The existence of such filtrations suggests a remarkably straightforward algorithm for calculating these characters if the irreducible characters are already known. We first show that the results of this algorithm agree with Soergel's character formula for the regular tilting modules. We then show that these balanced semisimple filtrations really do exist for …
Let G be a reductive algebraic group over a field k. When k=C, R.K.Brylinski constructed a filtration of weight spaces of a G module, using the action of a principal nilpotent element of the Lie algebra, and proved that this filtration corresponds to Lusztig's q-analogue of the weight multiplicity. Later, Ginzburg discovered that this filtration has an interesting geometric interpretation via the geometric Satake correspondence. The goal of this article is to generalize these results to positive characteristics.
Given a noetherian abelian category $\mathcal Z$ of homological dimension two with a tilting object $T$, the abelian category $\mathcal Z$ and the abelian category of modules over $\text{End} (T)^{\textit{op}}$ are related by a sequence of two tilts; we give an explicit description of the torsion pairs involved. We then use our techniques to obtain a simplified proof of a theorem of Jensen-Madsen-Su, that $\mathcal Z$ has a three-step filtration by extension-closed subcategories. Finally, we generalise Jensen-Madsen-Su's filtration to a noetherian abelian category of any finite homological dim…
This paper investigates the tilting modules of the cyclotomic q-Schur algebras, the Young modules of the Ariki-Koike algebras, and the interconnections between them. The main tools used to understand the tilting modules are contragredient duality, and the Specht filtrations and dual Specht filtrations of certain permutation modules. Surprisingly, Weyl filtrations -- which are in general more powerful than Specht filtrations -- play only a secondary role.
Let $k$ be a commutative Noetherian ring. In this paper we consider filtered modules of the category FI firstly introduced by Nagpal. We show that a finitely generated FI-module $V$ is filtered if and only if its higher homologies all vanish, and if and only if a certain homology vanishes. Using this homological characterization, we characterize finitely generated FI-modules $V$ whose projective dimension is finite, and describe an upper bound for it. Furthermore, we give a new proof for the fact that $V$ induces a finite complex of filtered modules, and use it as well as a result of Church an…
Dualities of resolving subcategories of finitely generated modules over Artin algebras are characterized as dualities with respect to Wakamatsu tilting bimodules. By restriction of these dualities to resolving subcategories of finitely generated modules with finite projective or Gorenstein-projective dimensions, Miyashita's duality and Huisgen-Zimmermann's correspondence on tilting modules as well as their Gorenstein version are obtained. Applications include constructing triangle equivalences of derived categories of finitely generated Gorenstein-projective modules and showing the invariance …
The author and Nakano recently proved that multiplicities in a Specht filtration of a symmetric group module are well-defined precisely when the characteristic is at least five. This result suggested the possibility of a symmetric group theory analogous to that of good filtrations and tilting modules for $GL_n(k)$. This paper is an initial attempt at such a theory. We obtain two sufficient conditions that ensure a module has a Specht filtration, and a formula for the filtration multiplicities. We then study the categories of modules that satisfy the conditions, in the process obtaining a new r…
A celebrated result in representation theory is that of higher Auslander correspondence. Let $Λ$ an Artin algebra and $X$ a $d$-cluster-tilting module. Iyama has shown that the endomorphism ring $Γ$ of $X$ is a $d$-Auslander algebra, and moreover this gives a correspondence between $d$-cluster-tilting modules and $d$-Auslander algebras. We present a self-contained and concise proof using the homological theory of idempotent ideals of Auslander--Platzeck--Todorov.
We describe tilting modules of the deformed category O over a semisimple Lie algebra as certain sheaves on a moment graph associated to the corresponding block of category O. We prove that they map to Braden-MacPherson sheaves constructed along the reversed Bruhat order under Fiebig's localization functor. By this means, we get character formulas for tilting modules and explain how Soergel's result about the Andersen filtration gives a Koszul dual proof of the semisimplicity of subquotients of the Jantzen filtration.
We investigate the role of gentle algebras in higher homological algebra. In the first part of the paper, we show that if the module category of a gentle algebra $Λ$ contains a $d$-cluster tilting subcategory for some $d \geq 2$, then $Λ$ is a radical square zero Nakayama algebra. This gives a complete classification of weakly $d$-representation finite gentle algebras. In the second part, we use a geometric model of the derived category to prove a similar result in the triangulated setup. More precisely, we show that if $\mathcal{D}^b(Λ)$ contains a $d$-cluster tilting subcategory that is clos…
In this paper we study the category of graded modules for the current algebra associated to $\mathfrak{sl}_2$. The category enjoys many nice properties, including a tilting theory which was established in previous work of the authors. We show that the indecomposable tilting modules for $\mathfrak{sl}_2[t]$ are the exterior powers of the fundamental global Weyl module and give the filtration multiplicities in the standard and costandard filtration. An interesting consequence of our result (which is far from obvious from the abstract definition) is that an indecomposable tilting module admits a …
Let $\mathscr{C}$ be a 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated category, and let $\mathscr{T}$ be a cluster tilting subcategory of $\mathscr{C}$. An important result from Dehy and Keller tells us that a rigid object $c \in \mathscr{C}$ is uniquely defined by its index with respect to $\mathscr{T}$. The notion of triangulated categories extends to the notion of $(d+2)$-angulated categories. Thanks to a paper by Oppermann and Thomas, we now have a definition for cluster tilting subcategories in higher dimensions. This paper proves that under a technical assumption, an indecomposable object in a $(d+2)$-angula…
The category of level zero representations of current and affine Lie algebras shares many of the properties of other well-known categories which appear in Lie theory and in algebraic groups in characteristic p and in this paper we explore further similarities. The role of the standard and co-standard module is played by the finite-dimensional local Weyl module and the dual of the infinite-dimensional global Weyl module respectively. We define the canonical filtration of a graded module for the current algebra. In the case when $\mathfrak g$ is of type $\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1}$ we show that the wel…
This paper explores various homological regularity phenomena (in the sense of Auslander) in category $\mathcal{O}$ and its several variations and generalizations. Additionally, we address the problem of determining projective dimension of twisted and shuffled projective and tilting modules.
On the space of homomorphisms from a Verma module to an indecomposable tilting module of the BGG-category O we define a natural filtration following Andersen and establish a formula expressing the dimensions of the filtration steps in terms of coefficients of Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials.
Given a good $n$-tilting module $T$ over a ring $A$, let $B$ be the endomorphism ring of $T$, it is an open question whether the kernel of the left-derived functor $T\otimes^L_B-$ between the derived module categories of $B$ and $A$ could be realized as the derived module category of a ring $C$ via a ring epimorphism $B\rightarrow C$ for $n\ge 2$. In this paper, we first provide a uniform way to deal with the above question both for tilting and cotilting modules by considering a new class of modules called Ringel modules, and then give criterions for the kernel of $T\otimes^L_B-$ to be equival…
In the first part of this paper the projective dimension of the structural modules in the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ is studied. This dimension is computed for simple, standard and costandard modules. For tilting and injective modules an explicit conjecture relating the result to Lusztig's $\mathbf{a}$-function is formulated (and proved for type $A$). The second part deals with the extension algebra of Verma modules. It is shown that this algebra is in a natural way $\mathbb{Z}^2$-graded and that it has two $\mathbb{Z}$-graded Koszul subalgebras. The dimension of the space $\mathrm{Ext}^1$ int…
Let $Λ$ and $Γ$ be left and right noetherian rings and $_ΛU$ a Wakamatsu tilting module with $Γ={\rm End}(_ΛT)$. We introduce a new definition of $U$-dominant dimensions and show that the $U$-dominant dimensions of $_ΛU$ and $U_Γ$ are identical. We characterize $k$-Gorenstein modules in terms of homological dimensions and the property of double homological functors preserving monomorphisms. We also study a generalization of $k$-Gorenstein modules, and characterize it in terms of some similar properties of $k$-Gorenstein modules.
We show, in full generality, that Lusztig's $\mathbf{a}$-function describes the projective dimension of both indecomposable tilting modules and indecomposable injective modules in the regular block of the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$, proving a conjecture from the first paper. On the way we show that the images of simple modules under projective functors can be represented in the derived category by linear complexes of tilting modules. These complexes, in turn, can be interpreted as the images of simple modules under projective functors in the Koszul dual of the category $\mathcal{O}$. Finally, …
We define the notion of an infinitely generated tilting object of infinite homological dimension in an abelian category. A one-to-one correspondence between $\infty$-tilting objects in complete, cocomplete abelian categories with an injective cogenerator and $\infty$-cotilting objects in complete, cocomplete abelian categories with a projective generator is constructed. We also introduce $\infty$-tilting pairs, consisting of an $\infty$-tilting object and its $\infty$-tilting class, and obtain a bijective correspondence between $\infty$-tilting and $\infty$-cotilting pairs. Finally, we discuss…
Let $\mathscr{A}$ be a small abelian category. For a closed subbifunctor $F$ of $\Ext_{\mathscr{A}}^{1}(-,-)$, Buan has generalized the construction of the Verdier's quotient category to get a relative derived category, where he localized with respect to $F$-acyclic complexes. In this paper, the homological properties of relative derived categories are discussed, and the relation with derived categories is given. For Artin algebras, using relatively derived categories, we give a relative version on derived equivalences induced by $F$-tilting complexes. We discuss the relationships between rela…
The homological theory of Auslander-Platzeck-Todorov on idempotent ideals laid much of the groundwork for higher Auslander-Reiten theory, providing the key technical lemmas for both higher Auslander correspondence as well as the construction of higher Nakayama algebras, among other results. Given a finite-dimensional algebra $A$ and idempotent $e$, we expand on a criterion of Jasso-Külshammer in order to determine a correspondence between the $2$-precluster-tilting subcategories of $\mathrm{mod}(A)$ and $\mathrm{mod}(A/\langle e\rangle)$. This is then applied in the context of generalising dim…
Higher homological algebra was introduced by Iyama. It is also known as $n$-homological algebra where $n \geq 2$ is a fixed integer, and it deals with $n$-cluster tilting subcategories of abelian categories. All short exact sequences in such a subcategory are split, but it has nice exact sequences with $n+2$ objects. This was recently formalised by Jasso in the theory of $n$-abelian categories. There is also a derived version of $n$-homological algebra, formalised by Geiss, Keller, and Oppermann in the theory of $( n+2 )$-angulated categories (the reason for the shift from $n$ to $n+2$ is that…
In this paper, we consider a kind of ideal quotient of an extriangulated category such that the ideal is the kernel of a functor from this extriangulated category to an abelian category. We study a condition when the functor is dense and full, in another word, the ideal quotient becomes abelian. Moreover, a new equivalent characterization of cluster-tilting subcategories is given by applying homological methods according to this functor. As an application, we show that in a connected 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated category B, a functorially finite, extension closed subcategory T of B is cluster til…
We show that tilting modules for quantum groups over local Noetherian domains exist and that the indecomposable tilting modules are parametrized by their highest weight. For this we introduce a model category ${\mathcal X}={\mathcal X}_{\mathscr A}(R)$ associated with a Noetherian ${\mathbb Z}[v,v^{-1}]$-domain ${\mathscr A}$ and a root system $R$. We show that if ${\mathscr A}$ is of quantum characteristic $0$, the model category contains all $U_{\mathscr A}$-modules that admit a Weyl filtration. If ${\mathscr A}$ is in addition local, we study torsion phenomena in the model category. This le…
$τ$-rigid modules are essential in the $τ$-tilting theory introduced by Adachi, Iyama and Reiten. In this paper, we give equivalent conditions for Iwanaga-Gorenstein algebras with self-injective dimension at most one in terms of $τ$-rigid modules. We show that every indecomposable module over iterated tilted algebras of Dynkin type is $τ$-rigid. Finally, we give a $τ$-tilting theorem on homological dimension which is an analog to that of classical tilting modules.
Over a finite-dimensonal algbera $A$, simple $A$-modules that have projective dimension one have special properties. For example, Geigle-Lenzing studied them in connection to homological epimorphisms of rings, and they have also appeared in work concerning the finitistic dimension conjecture. If we however work in a $d$-cluster-tilting subcategory, then not all simples are contained in this subcategory. In this context, a replacement might be to work with idempotent ideals instead, and utilise the theory of Auslander-Platzeck-Todorov. We introduce the notion of a fabric idempotent as an analog…
K. Igusa and G. Todorov introduced two functions $ϕ$ and $ψ,$ which are natural and important homological measures generalising the notion of the projective dimension. These Igusa-Todorov functions have become into a powerful tool to understand better the finitistic dimension conjecture. In this paper, for an artin $R$-algebra $A$ and the Igusa-Todorov function $ϕ,$ we characterise the $ϕ$-dimension of $A$ in terms either of the bi-functors $\mathrm{Ext}^{i}_{A}(-, -)$ or Tor's bi-functors $\mathrm{Tor}^{A}_{i}(-,-).$ Furthermore, by using the first characterisation of the $ϕ$-dimension, we sh…
Let $B$ be a finite dimensional algebra and $A=B[P_0]$ be the one-point extension algebra of $B$ with respect to the finitely generated projective $B$-module $P_0$. The categories of $B$-modules and $A$-modules are related by two adjoint functors $\mathcal{R}$ and $\mathcal{E}$, called the restriction and the extension functors, respectively. Based on the nice homological properties of these two functors, restriction and extension of some notions such as tilting and $τ$-tilting modules have been studied in the category of finitely presented modules, i.e. small mod. In this paper, we investigat…
ABSTRACT. Let $Φ$ be a finite dimensional $K$-algebra and let $\mathscr{C} = \textrm{mod}\: Φ$ be the abelian category of finitely generated right $Φ$-modules. In their 1985 paper ``Modules determined by their composition factors'', Auslander and Reiten showed that under certain conditions modules in $\textrm{mod}\: Φ$ are determined by their composition factors, and show an important formula related to the Auslander-Reiten translation. Let $\mathscr{T}$ be a $d$-cluster tilting subcategory of $\mathscr{C}$, which by definition is also $d$-abelian. In this paper we will define the Grothendieck…
A new homological symmetry condition is exhibited that extends and unifies several recently defined and widely used concepts. Applications include general constructions of tilting modules and derived equivalences, and characterisations of Gorenstein properties of endomorphism rings.
We generalize the monomorphism category from quiver (with monomial relations) to arbitrary finite dimensional algebras by a homological definition. Given two finite dimension algebras $A$ and $B$, we use the special monomorphism category Mon(B, A-Gproj) to describe some Gorenstein projective bimodules over the tensor product of $A$ and $B$. If one of the two algebras is Gorenstein, we give a sufficient and necessary condition for Mon(B, A-Gproj) being the category of all Gorenstein projective bimodules. In addition, If both $A$ and $B$ are Gorenstein, we can describe the category of all Gorens…
We give a classification theorem for a relevant class of $t$-structures in triangulated categories, which includes in the case of the derived category of a Grothendieck category, the $t$-structures whose hearts have at most $n$ fixed consecutive non-zero cohomologies. Moreover, by this classification theorem, we deduce the construction of the $t$-tree, a new technique which generalises the filtration induced by a torsion pair. At last we apply our results in the tilting context generalizing the $1$-tilting equivalence proved by Happel, Reiten and Smalø [HRS96]. The last section provides applic…
We study IE-closed subcategories of a module category, subcategories which are closed under taking Images and Extensions. We investigate the relation between IE-closed subcategories and torsion pairs, and characterize $τ$-tilting finite algebras using IE-closed subcategories. For the hereditary case, we show that IE-closed subcategories can be classified by twin rigid modules, pairs of rigid modules satisfying some homological conditions. Moreover, we introduce mutation of twin rigid modules analogously to tilting modules, which gives a way to calculate all twin rigid modules for the represent…
A triangular matrix ring A is defined by a triplet (R,S,M) where R and S are rings and M is an S-R-bimodule. In the main theorem of this paper we show that if T is a tilting S-module, then under certain homological conditions on M as an S-module, one can extend T to a tilting complex over A inducing a derived equivalence between A and another triangular matrix ring specified by (S',R,M'), where the ring S' and the R-S'-bimodule M' depend only on T and M, and S' is derived equivalent to S. Note that no conditions on the ring R are needed. These conditions are satisfied when S is an Artin algebr…
We show that variants of the classical reflection functors from quiver representation theory exist in any abstract stable homotopy theory, making them available for example over arbitrary ground rings, for quasi-coherent modules on schemes, in the differential-graded context, in stable homotopy theory as well as in the equivariant, motivic, and parametrized variant thereof. As an application of these equivalences we obtain abstract tilting results for trees valid in all these situations, hence generalizing a result of Happel. The main tools introduced for the construction of these reflection f…
Let $T$ be an infinitely generated tilting module of projective dimension at most one over an arbitrary associative ring $A$, and let $B$ be the endomorphism ring of $T$. In this paper, we prove that if $T$ is good then there exists a ring $C$, a homological ring epimorphism $B\ra C$ and a recollement among the (unbounded) derived module categories $\D{C}$ of $C$, $\D{B}$ of $B$, and $\D{A}$ of $A$. In particular, the kernel of the total left derived functor $T\otimes_B^{\mathbb L}-$ is triangle equivalent to the derived module category $\D{C}$. Conversely, if the functor $T\otimes_B^{\mathbb …
For any cyclic Nakayama algebra $Λ$, we construct \emph{syzygy filtered algebra} $\bm\varepsilon(Λ)$ which corresponds to various syzygy modules as the name suggests. We prove that the category of modules over the syzygy filtered algebra $\bm\varepsilon(Λ)$ is equivalent to the wide subcategory cogenerated by projective-injective modules of the original algebra $Λ$ along with other categorical equivalences. In terms of this new algebra, we interpret the following homological invariants of $Λ$: left and right finitistic dimension, left and right $φ$-dimension, Gorenstein dimension, dominant dim…
Building on the embedding of an $n$-abelian category $\mathscr{M}$ into an abelian category $\mathcal{A}$ as an $n$-cluster-tilting subcategory of $\mathcal{A}$, in this paper we relate the $n$-torsion classes of $\mathscr{M}$ with the torsion classes of $\mathcal{A}$. Indeed, we show that every $n$-torsion class in $\mathscr{M}$ is given by the intersection of a torsion class in $\mathcal{A}$ with $\mathscr{M}$. Moreover, we show that every chain of $n$-torsion classes in the $n$-abelian category $\mathscr{M}$ induces a Harder-Narasimhan filtration for every object of $\mathscr{M}$. We use th…
We introduce $n$-abelian and $n$-exact categories, these are analogs of abelian and exact categories from the point of view of higher homological algebra. We show that $n$-cluster-tilting subcategories of abelian (resp. exact) categories are $n$-abelian (resp. $n$-exact). These results allow to construct several examples of $n$-abelian and $n$-exact categories. Conversely, we prove that $n$-abelian categories satisfying certain mild assumptions can be realized as $n$-cluster-tilting subcategories of abelian categories. In analogy with a classical result of Happel, we show that the stable categ…
Let $G$ be a simple, simply connected algebraic group over an algebraically closed field of prime characteristic $p>0$. Recent work of Kildetoft and Nakano and of Sobaje has shown close connections between two long-standing conjectures of Donkin: one on tilting modules and the lifting of projective modules for Frobenius kernels of $G$ and another on the existence of certain filtrations of $G$-modules. A key question related to these conjectures is whether the tensor product of the $r$th Steinberg module with a simple module with $p^{r}$th restricted highest weight admits a good filtration. In …
Let ${\mathscr T}$ be a triangulated category. If $T$ is a cluster tilting object and $I = [ \operatorname{add} T ]$ is the ideal of morphisms factoring through an object of $\operatorname{add} T$, then the quotient category ${\mathscr T} / I$ is abelian. This is an important result of cluster theory, due to Keller-Reiten and König-Zhu. More general conditions which imply that ${\mathscr T} / I$ is abelian were determined by Grimeland and the first author. Now let ${\mathscr T}$ be a suitable $( d+2 )$-angulated category for an integer $d \geqslant 1$. If $T$ is a cluster tilting object in the…
We develop a general framework for $c$-vectors of 2-Calabi--Yau categories, which deals with cluster tilting subcategories that are not reachable from each other and contain infinitely many indecomposable objects. It does not rely on iterative sequences of mutations. We prove a categorical (infinite-rank) generalization of the Nakanishi--Zelevinsky duality for $c$-vectors and establish two formulae for the effective computation of $c$-vectors -- one in terms of indices and the other in terms of dimension vectors for cluster tilted algebras. In this framework, we construct a correspondence betw…
We define weak 2-categories of finite dimensional algebras with bimodules, along with collections of operators $\mathbb{O}_{(c,x)}$ on these 2-categories. We prove that special examples $\mathbb{O}_p$ of these operators control all homological aspects of the rational representation theory of the algebraic group $GL_2$, over a field of positive characteristic. We prove that when $x$ is a Rickard tilting complex, the operators $\mathbb{O}_{(c,x)}$ honour derived equivalences, in a differential graded setting. We give a number of representation theoretic corollaries, such as the existence of tigh…
