We present two of the three major steps in the construction of motivic integration, that is, a homomorphism between Grothendieck semigroups that are associated with a first-order theory of algebraically closed valued fields, in the fundamental work of Hrushovski and Kazhdan. We limit our attention to a simple major subclass of V-minimal theories of the form ACVF_S(0, 0), that is, the theory of algebraically closed valued fields of pure characteristic $0$ expanded by a (VF, Gamma)-generated substructure S in the language L_RV. The main advantage of this subclass is the presence of syntax. It enables us to simplify the arguments with many different technical details while following the major steps of the Hrushovski-Kazhdan theory.
Adjoining to the language of rings the function symbols for splitting coefficients, the function symbols for relative $p$-coordinate functions, and the division predicate for a valuation, some theories of pseudo-algebraically closed non-trivially valued fields admit quantifier elimination. It is also shown that in the same language the theory of pseudo-algebraically closed non-trivially valued fields of a given exponent of imperfection does not admit quantifier elimination, due to Galois theoretic obstructions.
A Basarab-Kuhlmann style language L_RV is introduced in the Hrushovski-Kazhdan integration theory. The theory ACVF of algebraically closed valued fields formulated in this language admits quantifier elimination. In this paper, using well-known facts in the theory of valued fields, we give a straightforward proof of this fact. We also show that two expansions of ACVF, one with a section of the entire RV-sort and the other with a section of the residue field, admit quantifier elimination. Thereafter we show that, in terms of certain minimality conditions, the three theories are distinct geometri…
We give a simplified proof of elimination of imaginaries (in the geometric sorts) in ACVF, based on ideas of Hrushovski. This proof manages to avoid many of the technical issues which arose in the original proof by Haskell, Hrushovski, and Macpherson.
The text is based on notes from a class entitled {\em Model Theory of Berkovich Spaces}, given at the Hebrew University in the fall term of 2009, and retains the flavor of class notes. It includes an exposition of material from \cite{hhmcrelle}, \cite{hhm} and \cite{HL}, regarding definable types in the model completion of the theory of valued fields, and the classification of imaginary sorts. The latter is given a new proof, based on definable types rather than invariant types, and on the notion of {\em generic reparametrization}. I also try to bring out the relation to the geometry of \cite{…
In this article we study definable functions in tame expansions of algebraically closed valued fields. For a given definable function we have two types of results: of type (I), which hold at a neighborhood of infinity, and of type (II), which hold locally for all but finitely many points in the domain of the function. In the first part of the article, we show type (I) and (II) results concerning factorizations of definable functions over the value group. As an application, we show that tame expansions of algebraically closed valued fields having value group $\mathbb{Q}$ (like $\mathbb{C}_p$ an…
Marker and Steinhorn shown that given two models $M\prec N$ of an o-minimal theory, if all 1-types over $M$ realized in $N$ are definable, then all types over $M$ realized in $N$ are definable. In this article we characterize pairs of algebraically closed valued fields satisfying the same property. Although it is true that if $M$ is an algebraically closed valued field such that all 1-types over $M$ are definable then all types over $M$ definable, we build a counterexample for the relative statement, \textit{i.e.}, we show for any $n\geq 1$ that there is a pair $M\prec N$ of algebraically clos…
We define a notion of residue field domination for valued fields which generalizes stable domination in algebraically closed valued fields. We prove that a real closed valued field is dominated by the sorts internal to the residue field, over the value group, both in the pure field sort and in the geometric sorts. These results characterize forking and þ-forking in real closed valued fields (and also algebraically closed valued fields). We lay some groundwork for extending these results to a power-bounded $T$-convex theory.
The first two steps of the construction of motivic integration in the fundamental work of Hrushovski and Kazhdan have been presented in arXiv:1006.2467v1. In this paper we present the final third step. As in arXiv:1006.2467v1, we limit our attention to the theory of algebraically closed valued fields of pure characteristic 0 expanded by a (VF, Γ)-generated substructure S in the language L_{RV}. A canonical description of the kernel of the lifting map is obtained.
We investigate the computability-theoretic properties of valued fields, and in particular algebraically closed valued fields and $p$-adically closed valued fields. We give an effectiveness condition, related to Hensel's lemma, on a valued field which is necessary and sufficient to extend the valuation to any algebraic extension. We show that there is a computable formally $p$-adic field which does not embed into any computable $p$-adic closure, but we give an effectiveness condition on the divisibility relation in the value group which is sufficient to find such an embedding. By checking that …
We continue the study of the Hrushovski-Kazhdan integration theory and consider exponential integrals. The Grothendieck ring is enlarged via a tautological additive character and hence can receive such integrals. We then define the Fourier transform in our integration theory and establish some fundamental properties of it. Thereafter a basic theory of distributions is also developed. We construct the Weil representations in the end as an application. The results are completely parallel to the classical ones.
We prove that if a strongly minimal non-locally modular reduct of an algebraically closed valued field of characteristic 0 contains +, then this reduct is bi-interpretable with the underlying field.
We give a short argument why the tensor product valuation on $K \otimes_k L$ is multiplicative when $k$ is an algebraically closed valued field and $K$ and $L$ are valued extensions (all valuations being in $\bR$). When the valuation on $k$ is non trivial we use the fact that $ACVF$, the theory of algebraically closed (non trivially) valued fields, has quantifier elimination.
We construct Hrushovski-Kazhdan style motivic integration in certain expansions of ACVF. Such an expansion is typically obtained by adding a full section or a cross-section from the RV-sort into the VF-sort and some (arbitrary) extra structure in the RV-sort. The construction of integration, that is, the inverse of the lifting map L, is rather straightforward. What is a bit surprising is that the kernel of L is still generated by one element, exactly as in the case of integration in ACVF. The overall construction is more or less parallel to the original Hrushovski-Kazhdan construction. As an a…
We show that dp-minimal valued fields are henselian and that a dp-minimal field admitting a definable type V topology is either real closed, algebraically closed or admits a non-trivial definable henselian valuation. We give classifications of dp-minimal ordered abelian groups and dp-minimal ordered fields without additional structure.
We prove quantifier elimination for the theory of quasi-real closed fields with a compatible valuation. This unifies the same known results for algebraically closed valued fields and real closed valued fields.
We answer two open questions about the model theory of valued differential fields introduced by Scanlon. We show that they eliminate imaginaries in the geometric language introduced by Haskell, Hrushovski and Macpherson and that they have the invariant extension property. These two result follow from an abstract criterion for the density of definable types in enrichments of algebraically closed valued fields. Finally, we show that this theory is metastable.
These notes form part of a joint research project on the logic of fields with many valuations, connected by a product formula. We define such structures and name them {\em globally valued fields} (GVFs). This text aims primarily at a proof that {\em the canonical GVF structure on $k(t)^{alg}$ is existentially closed}. This can be read as saying that a variety {\em with a distinguished curve class} is a good approximation for a formula in the language of GVFs, in the same way that a variety is close to a formula for the theory ACF of algebraically closed fields.
A henselian valued field $K$ is called separably tame if its separable-algebraic closure $K^{\operatorname{sep}}$ is a tame extension, that is, the ramification field of the normal extension $K^{\operatorname{sep}}|K$ is separable-algebraically closed. Every separable-algebraically maximal Kaplansky field is a separably tame field, but not conversely. In this paper, we prove Ax-Kochen-Ershov Principles for separably tame fields. This leads to model completeness and completeness results relative to the value group and residue field. As the maximal immediate extensions of separably tame fields a…
Following our first article, we continue to investigate ultrametic modules over a ring of twisted polynomials of the form $[K;\vfi]$, where $\vfi$ is a ring endomorphism of $K$. The main motivation comes from the the theory of valued difference fields (including characteristic $p>0$ valued fields equipped with the Frobenius endomorphism). We introduce the class of modules, that we call, affinely maximal and residually divisible and we prove (relative -) quantifier elimination results. Ax-Kochen \& Erhov type theorems follows. As an application, we axiomatize, as a valued module, any ultraprodu…
We show that the theory of the non-standard Frobenius automorphism, acting on an algebraically closed valued field of equal characteristic 0, is NTP2. More generally, in the contractive as well as in the isometric case, we prove that a sigma-henselian valued difference field of equicharacteristic 0 is NTP2, provided both the residue difference field and the value group (as an ordered difference group) are NTP2.
We study model theoretic properties of valued fields (equipped with a real-valued multiplicative valuation), viewed as metric structures in continuous first order logic. For technical reasons we prefer to consider not the valued field $(K,|{\cdot}|)$ directly, but rather the associated projective spaces $K\bP^n$, as bounded metric structures. We show that the class of (projective spaces over) metric valued fields is elementary, with theory $MVF$, and that the projective spaces $\bP^n$ and $\bP^m$ are biïnterpretable for every $n,m \geq 1$. The theory $MVF$ admits a model completion $ACMVF$, th…
We prove that the theory of a Henselian valued field of characteristic zero, with finite ramification, and whose value group is a $Z$-group, is model-complete in the language of rings if the theory of its residue field is model-complete in the language of rings. We apply this to prove that every infinite algebraic extension of the field of $p$-adic numbers $\Bbb Q_p$ with finite ramification is model-complete in the language of rings. For this, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for model-completeness of the theory of a perfect pseudo-algebraically closed field with pro-cyclic absolu…
We show quantifier elimination theorems for real closed valued fields with separated analytic structure and overconvergent analytic structure in their natural one-sorted languages and deduce that such structures are weakly o-minimal. We also provide a short proof that algebraically closed valued fields with separated analytic structure (in any rank) are $C$-minimal.
We prove a tight bound on the number of realized $0/1$ patterns (or equivalently on the Vapnik-Chervonenkis codensity) of definable families in models of the theory of algebraically closed valued fields with a non-archimedean valuation. Our result improves the best known result in this direction proved by Aschenbrenner, Dolich, Haskell, Macpherson and Starchenko, who proved a weaker bound in the restricted case where the characteristics of the field $K$ and its residue field are both assumed to be $0$. The bound obtained here is optimal and without any restriction on the characteristics. We ob…
We show that asymptotic (valued differential) fields have unique maximal immediate extensions. Connecting this to differential-henselianity, we prove that any differential-henselian asymptotic field is differential-algebraically maximal, removing the assumption of monotonicity from a theorem of Aschenbrenner, van den Dries, and van der Hoeven (arXiv:1509.02588, Theorem 7.0.3). Finally, we use this result to show the existence and uniqueness of differential-henselizations of asymptotic fields.
We consider $G$, a linear group defined over $k$, an algebraically closed field. By considering $k$ as an embedded residue field of an algebraically closed valued field $K$, we can associate to it a compact $G$-space $S^μ_G(k)$, consisting of $μ$-types on $G$. We showed that for each $p_μ\in S^μ_G(k)$, $\text{Stab}^μ(p)=\text{Stab}(p_μ)$ is a solvable infinite algebraic group when $p_μ$ is centered at infinity and residually algebraic. Moreover we give a description of the dimension $\text{Stab}(p_μ)$ in terms of dimension of $p$.

The notion of newtonianity is central to the study of the ordered differential field of logarithmic-exponential transseries done by Aschenbrenner, van den Dries, and van der Hoeven; see Chapter 14 of arxiv:1509.02588. We remove the assumption of divisible value group from two of their results concerning newtonianity, namely the newtonization construction and the equivalence of newtonianity with asymptotic differential-algebraic maximality. We deduce the uniqueness of immediate differentially algebraic extensions that are asymptotically differential-algebraically maximal.
The concept of multialgebraic structure -- an "algebraic like" structure but endowed with multiple valued operations -- has been studied since the 1930's; in particular, the concept of hyperrings was introduced by Krasner in the 1950's. Some general algebraic study has been made on multialgebras: see for instance \cite{golzio2018brief} and \cite{pelea2006multialgebras}. More recently the notion of multiring have obtained more attention: a multiring is a lax hyperring, satisfying an weak distributive law, but hyperfields and multifields coincide. Multirings has been studied for applications in …
In this article we study modules endowed with a ultrametric, from the point of view of the geometric notion $C$-minimality. We give a complete characterization of $C$-minimal valued modules over non-commutative rings of skew polynomials of the form $R:=K[t;φ]$, where $K$ is a field, $φ$ an endomorphism of $K$ and $R$ is the $K$-algebra generated by $t$, such that $at=ta^φ$ for $a\in K$. We deduce for instance that the ring of Puiseux series over a finite field $\mathbb{F}$ of characteristic $p>0$, as a valued module over $\mathbb{F}[t;x\mapsto x^p]$ is $C$-minimal. Moreover, any ultraproduct $…
We give a detailed proof of Kolchin's results on differential Galois groups of strongly normal extensions, in the case where the field of constants is not necessarily algebraically closed. We closely follow former works due to Pillay and his co-authors which were written under the assumption that the field of constant is algebraically closed. In the present setting, which encompasses the cases of ordered or p-valued differential fields, we find a partial Galois correspondence and we show one cannot expect more in general. In the class of ordered differential fields, using elimination of imagin…
We prove the dp-finite case of the Shelah conjecture on NIP fields. If K is a dp-finite field, then K admits a non-trivial definable henselian valuation ring, unless K is finite, real closed, or algebraically closed. As a consequence, the conjectural classification of dp-finite fields holds. Additionally, dp-finite valued fields are henselian. Lastly, if K is an unstable dp-finite expansion of a field, then K admits a unique definable V-topology.
We study necessary and sufficient conditions for a valued field $\KF$ with value group $G$ and residue field $\kf$ (with char $\KF$ = char $\kf$) to admit a truncation closed embedding in the field of generalized power series $\kf((G, f))$ (with factor set $f$). We show that this is equivalent to the existence of a family ({\it tower of complements}) of $\kf$-subspaces of $\KF$ which are complements of the (possibly fractional) ideals of the valuation ring. If $\KF$ is a Henselian field of characteristic 0 or, more generally, an algebraically maximal Kaplansky field, we give an intrinsic const…
Based on ideas of quantum theory of open systems we propose the consistent approach to the formulation of logic of plausible propositions. To this end we associate with every plausible proposition diagonal matrix of its likelihood and examine it as density matrix of relevant quantum system. We are showing that all logical connectives between plausible propositions can be represented as special positive valued transformations of these matrices. We demonstrate also the above transformations can be realized in relevant composite quantum systems by quantum engineering methods. The approach propose…
NTP2 is a large class of first-order theories defined by Shelah and generalizing simple and NIP theories. Algebraic examples of NTP2 structures are given by ultra-products of p-adics and certain valued difference fields (such as a non-standard Frobenius automorphism living on an algebraically closed valued field of characteristic 0). In this note we present some results on groups and fields definable in NTP2 structures. Most importantly, we isolate a chain condition for definable normal subgroups and use it to show that any NTP2 field has only finitely many Artin-Schreier extensions. We also d…
We introduce two new notions of stratifications in valued fields: t$^2$-stratifications and arc-wise analytic t-stratifications. We show the existence of arc-wise analytic t-stratifications in algebraically closed valued fields with analytic structure in the sense of R. Cluckers and L. Lipshitz. We prove that arc-wise analytic t-stratifications are t$^2$-stratifications and, moreover, that t$^2$-stratifications are valuative Lipschitz stratifications as defined by the second author and Y. Yin (the latter ones being closely related to Lipschitz stratifications in the sense of Mostowski). Finall…
