We present a numerical study of the process of production of kink-antikink pairs in the collision of particle-like states in the one-dimensional $ϕ^4$ model. It is shown that there are 3 steps in the process, the first step is to excite the oscillon intermediate state in the particle collision, the second step is a resonance excitation of the oscillon by the incoming perturbations, and finally, the soliton-antisoliton pair can be created from the resonantly excited oscillon. It is shown that the process depends fractally on the amplitude of the perturbations and the wave number of the perturbation. We also present the effective collective coordinate model for this process.
We study compact kinks and its interaction with compact oscillons in models with non-analytic potentials. Oscillon-like excitations are the main ingredients of the radiation field. We look at the problem of scattering which involves topological compact kinks and non-topological oscillons. We also look at the problem of propagation of small perturbation at the kink bulk.
Oscillons are time-dependent, localized in space, extremely long-lived states in nonlinear scalar-field models, while kinks are topological solitons in one spatial dimension. In the present work, we show new classes of oscillons and oscillating kinks in a system of two nonlinearly coupled scalar fields in $1 + 1$ spatiotemporal dimensions. The solutions contain a control parameter, the variation of which produces oscillons and kinks with a flat-top shape. The model finds applications to condensed matter, cosmology, and high-energy physics.
We study the classical dynamics of the Abelian Higgs model employing an asymptotic multiscale expansion method, which uses the ratio of the Higgs to the gauge field amplitudes as a small parameter. We derive an effective nonlinear Schrödinger equation for the gauge field, and a linear equation for the scalar field containing the gauge field as a nonlinear source. This equation is used to predict the existence of oscillons and oscillating kinks for certain regimes of the ratio of the Higgs to the gauge field masses. Results of numerical simulations are found to be in very good agreement with th…
In this work we examine kink-antikink collisions in two distinct hyperbolic models. The models depend on a deformation parameter, which controls two main characteristics of the potential with two degenerate minima: the height of the barrier and the values of the minima. In particular, the rest mass of the kinks decreases monotonically as the deformation parameter increases, and we identify the appearance of a gradual suppression of two bounce windows in the kink scattering and the production of long lived oscillons. The two effects are reported in connection to the presence of more than one vi…

We study final states in the scattering of kinks and antikinks of the $φ^8$ field-theoretic model. We use the initial conditions in the form of two, three or four static or moving kinks. In the numerical experiments we observe a number of different processes such as emergence of static and moving oscillons, change of the kink's topological sector, scattering of an oscillon by a kink, production of kink-antikink pairs in oscillon-oscillon collisions. In antikink-kink collisions for asymmetric kinks, we found resonance phenomena -- escape windows.

Recent studies have emphasized the important role that a shape deformability of scalar-field models pertaining to the same class with the standard $ϕ^4$ field, can play in controlling the production of a specific type of breathing bound states so-called oscillons. In the context of cosmology, the built-in mechanism of oscillons suggests that they can affect the standard picture of scalar ultra-light dark matter. In the present work kink scatterings are investigated in a parametrized model of bistable system admitting the classical $ϕ^4$ field as an asymptotic limit, with focus on the formation…

We have investigated the head-on collision of a two-kink and a two-antikink pair that arises as a generalization of the $ϕ^4$ model. We have evolved numerically the Klein-Gordon equation with a new spectral algorithm whose accuracy and convergence were attested by the numerical tests. As a general result, the two-kink pair is annihilated radiating away most of the scalar field. It is possible the production of oscillons-like configurations after the collision that bounce and coalesce to form a small amplitude oscillon at the origin. The new feature is the formation of a sequence of quasi-stati…
The lambda-phi4 kink is linearly and topologically stable. We study how extra energy perturbations are dissipated beyond the linear regime. We found that depending on the width, amplitude and energy of a Gaussian perturbation different scenarios are possible: radiation, oscillons creation, kink anti-kink pairs production and shock waves.
We study the scattering of kink and antikink of the double sine-Gordon model. There is a critical value of the initial velocity $v_{cr}$ of the colliding kinks, which separates different regimes of the collision. At $v_{in}>v_{cr}$ we observe kinks reflection, while at $v_{in}<v_{cr}$ their interaction is complicated with capture and escape windows. We obtain the dependence of $v_{cr}$ on the parameter of the model. This dependence possesses a series of local maxima, which has not been reported by other authors. At some initial velocities below the critical value we observe a new phenomenon --…
We study collisions of kinks in the one-space and one-time dimensional noncanonical nonintegrable scalar $ϕ^{6}$ model. We examine the energy density of the kink, and we find that, as a function of the parameters that control the curvature of the potential, a localized inner structure of the energy density emerges. We also examine the kink excitation spectrum and the dynamics of the kink collisions for a wide range of initial velocities. We find that apart from the resonance windows, the production of two to three oscillons occurs for some values of the principal parameters of the model.
We review recent works on modeling of dynamics of kinks in 1+1 dimensional $ϕ^4$ theory and other related models, like sine-Gordon model or $ϕ^6$ theory. We discuss how the spectral structure of small perturbations can affect the dynamics of non-perturbative states, such as kinks or oscillons. We describe different mechanisms, which may lead to the occurrence of the resonant structure in the kink-antikink collisions. We explain the origin of the radiation pressure mechanism, in particular, the appearance of the negative radiation pressure in the $ϕ^4$ and $ϕ^6$ models. We also show that the pr…
The interaction between kink and radiation in nonlinear one-dimensional real scalar field is investigated. The process of discrete vibrational mode excitation in $ϕ^4$ model is considered. The role of this oscillations in creation of kink and antikink is discussed. Numerical results are presented as well as some attempts of analytical explanations. An intriguing fractal structure in parameter space dividing regions with creation and without is also presented.
The `mechanization' is a procedure of replacing a scalar field in 1+1 dimensions with a piece-wise linear function, i.e. a finite graph consisting of $N$ joints (vertices) and straight segments (edges). As a result, the field theory is approximated by a sequence of algebraically tractable, general-purpose collective coordinate mechanical models. We observe the step-by-step emergence of dynamical objects and associated phenomena as the $N$ increases. Mech-kinks and mech-oscillons -- mechanical analogs of kinks and oscillons (bions) -- appear in the simplest models, while more intricate dynamica…
This paper investigates a model containing $ϕ^4$ kinks interacting with fermions. The fermion back-reaction is included in the equations of motion, which affects the kink-antikink collisions. We show that the fermion field generates a force that can be either attractive or repulsive. Moreover, we investigate three different scenarios, which exhibit a wide variety of behaviors including the usual scenarios observed in the $ϕ^4$ model as well as the formation of two oscillons, reflection without contact, one-bounce resonance windows, and the creation of kink-antikink pairs. We also find evidence…
We present a more detailed numerical investigation of the head-on collision of a two-kink/two-antikink system. We identified the escape of oscillon-like configurations as a pair of kinks of the standard $ϕ^4$ model moving apart from each other. New pieces of evidence support that the lump-like defects can emerge from the two-kinks interaction to form metastable configurations. Moreover, these configurations signalize the windows of escape that have a fractal structure similar to the $n$-bounce sequence when the kinks of $ϕ^4$ interact. As the last piece of the numerical experiment, we show tha…
Interaction of asymmetric $ϕ^6$ kinks with a spatially localized $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric perturbation is investigated numerically. It has been shown that when the kink (antikink) hits the defect from the gain side, a final velocity of the kink decreases (increases), while for the kink and antikink coming from the opposite direction their final velocities remain unchanged. It is also found that when the kink interacts with the defect from the gain side multiple pair of the kink-antikink are formed from small amplitude waves (phonons) in the final states depending on the initial velocity of the…
We apply the principles of discrete time mechanics discussed in earlier papers to the first and second quantised Dirac equation. We use the Schwinger action principle to find the anticommutation relations of the Dirac field and of the particle creation operators in the theory. We find new solutions to the discrete time Dirac equation, referred to as oscillons on account of their extraordinary behaviour. Their principal characteristic is that they oscillate with a period twice that of the fundamental time interval T of our theory. Although these solutions can be associated with definite charge,…
We demonstrate numerically that an oscillation mode in 1+1 dimensions (eg a breather or an oscillon) can decay into a kink-antikink pair by a sudden distortion of the evolution potential which occurs within a certain time or space domain. In particular, we consider the transition of a sine-Gordon potential into a Φ^4 potential. The breather field configuration is assumed to initially evolve in a sine-Gordon potential with velocity $v$ and oscillation frequency $ω$. We then consider two types of numerical experiments: a. An abrupt transition of the potential to a $Φ^4$ form at t_0=0 over the wh…

We study boundary scattering in the $ϕ^4$ model on a half-line with a one-parameter family of Neumann-type boundary conditions. A rich variety of phenomena is observed, which extends previously-studied behaviour on the full line to include regimes of near-elastic scattering, the restoration of a missing scattering window, and the creation of a kink or oscillon through the collision-induced decay of a metastable boundary state. We also study the decay of the vibrational boundary mode, and explore different scenarios for its relaxation and for the creation of kinks.
We study the creation of solitons from particles, using the $λϕ^4$ model as a prototype. We consider the scattering of small, identical, wave pulses, that are equivalent to a sequence of particles, and find that kink-antikink pairs are created for a large region in parameter space. We also find that scattering at {\it low} velocities is favorable for creating solitons that have large energy compared to the mass of a particle.
