We adapt the notion of the Darboux transformation to the context of polynomial Sturm-Liouville problems. As an application, we characterize the recently described $X_m$ Laguerre polynomials in terms of an isospectral Darboux transformation. We also show that the shape-invariance of these new polynomial families is a direct consequence of the permutability property of the Darboux-Crum transformation.
We introduce a method for constructing Darboux (or supersymmetric) pairs of pseudoscalar and scalar Dirac potentials that are associated with exceptional orthogonal polynomials. Properties of the transformed potentials and regularity conditions are discussed. As an application, we consider a pseudoscalar Dirac potential related to the Schroeodinger model for the rationally extended radial oscillator. The pseudoscalar partner potentials are constructed under first- and second-order Darboux transformations.
Gauss-Seed Nets of Sturm-Liouville Problems With Energy-Independent Characteristic Exponents and Related Sequences of Exceptional Orthogonal Polynomials I. Canonical Darboux Transformations Using AEH Functions
Exceptional orthogonal polynomials are families of orthogonal polynomials that arise as solutions of Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue problems. They generalize the classical families of Hermite, Laguerre, and Jacobi polynomials by allowing for polynomial sequences that miss a finite number of "exceptional" degrees. In this paper we introduce a new construction of multi-parameter exceptional Legendre polynomials by considering the isospectral deformation of the classical Legendre operator. Using confluent Darboux transformations and a technique from inverse scattering theory, we obtain a fully explic…
An alternative expression for the Christoffel--Darboux formula for multiple orthogonal polynomials of mixed type is derived from the $LU$ factorization of the moment matrix of a given measure and two sets of weights. We use the action of the generalized Jacobi matrix $J$, also responsible for the recurrence relations, on the linear forms and their duals to obtain the result.
Darboux transformations for polynomial perturbations of a real multivariate measure are found. The 1D Christoffel formula is extended to the multidimensional realm: multivariate orthogonal polynomials are expressed in terms of last quasi-determinants and sample matrices. The coefficients of these matrices are the original orthogonal polynomials evaluated at a set of nodes, which is supposed to be poised. A discussion for the existence of poised sets is given in terms of algebraic hypersufaces in the complex affine space.
We study orthogonal polynomials with periodically modulated Jacobi parameters in the case when $0$ lies on the soft edge of the spectrum of the corresponding periodic Jacobi matrix. We determine when the orthogonality measure is absolutely continuous and we provide a constructive formula for it in terms of the limit of Turán determinants. We next consider asymptotics of the solutions of associated second order difference equation. Finally, we study scaling limits of the Christoffel--Darboux kernel.
We construct rational extensions of the Darboux-Pöschl-Teller and isotonic potentials via two-step confluent Darboux transformations. The former are strictly isospectral to the initial potential, whereas the latter are only quasi-isospectral. Both are associated to new families of orthogonal polynomials, which, in the first case, depend on a continuous parameter. We also prove that these extended potentials possess an enlarged shape invariance property.
Although the Christoffel-Darboux representation (CDR) plays an important role within the theory of orthogonal polynomials, and many important bosonic and fermionic multidimensional Schrodinger equation systems can be transformed into a moment equation representation (MER), the union of the two into an effective, algebraic, eigenenergy bounding method has been overlooked. This particular fusion of the two representations, suitable for bounding bosonic or fermionic systems, defines the Orthonormal Polynomial Projection Quantization - Bounding Method (OPPQ-BM), as developed here. We use it to ana…
Multivariate orthogonal polynomials in $D$ real dimensions are considered from the perspective of the Cholesky factorization of a moment matrix. The approach allows for the construction of corresponding multivariate orthogonal polynomials, associated second kind functions, Jacobi type matrices and associated three term relations and also Christoffel-Darboux formulæ. The multivariate orthogonal polynomials, its second kind functions and the corresponding Christoffel-Darboux kernels are shown to be quasi-determinants --as well as Schur complements-- of bordered truncations of the moment matrix; …
A new recurrence relation for exceptional orthogonal polynomials is proposed, which holds for type 1, 2 and 3. As concrete examples, the recurrence relations are given for Xj-Hermite, Laguerre and Jacobi polynomials in j = 1,2 case.
The revival structures for the X_m exceptional orthogonal polynomials of the Scarf I potential endowed with position-dependent effective mass is studied in the context of the generalized Gazeau-Klauder coherent states. It is shown that in the case of the constant mass, the deduced coherent states mimic full and fractional revivals phenomena. However in the case of position-dependent effective mass, although full revivals take place during their time evolution, there is no fractional revivals as defined in the common sense. These properties are illustrated numerically by means of some specific …
We construct energy-dependent potentials for which the Schroedinger equations admit solu- tions in terms of exceptional orthogonal polynomials. Our method of construction is based on certain point transformations, applied to the equations of exceptional Hermite, Jacobi and Laguerre polynomials. We present several examples of boundary-value problems with energy-dependent potentials that admit a discrete spectrum and the corresponding normalizable solutions in closed form.
We propose a new property of the zeros of exceptional orthogonal polynomials. It has been known that exceptional orthogonal polynomials (XOP) have both real and complex zeros. By fixing m variables at the imaginary parts of the complex zeros of XOP, we find that in some cases the modulus of the energy function of a many-particle system attains its maximum at the zeros of XOP. We give a sufficient condition for this result with respect to the denominators of the weight function of XOP.
We study a one-parameter family of probability measures on lozenge tilings of large regular hexagons that interpolates between the uniform measure on all possible tilings and a particular fully frozen tiling. The description of the asymptotic behavior can be separated into two regimes: the low and the high temperature regime. Our main results are the computations of the disordered regions in both regimes and the limiting densities of the different lozenges there. For low temperatures, the disorded region consists of two disjoint ellipses. In the high temperature regime the two ellipses merge i…
We introduce an extended Kepler-Coulomb quantum model in spherical coordinates. The Schrödinger equation of this Hamiltonian is solved in these coordinates and it is shown that the wave functions of the system can be expressed in terms of Laguerre, Legendre and exceptional Jacobi polynomials (of hypergeometric type). We construct ladder and shift operators based on the corresponding wave functions and obtain their recurrence formulas. These recurrence relations are used to construct higher-order, algebraically independent integrals of motion to prove superintegrability of the Hamiltonian. The …
The possibility for the Jacobi equation to admit in some cases general solutions that are polynomials has been recently highlighted by Calogero and Yi, who termed them para-Jacobi polynomials. Such polynomials are used here to build seed functions of a Darboux-Bäcklund transformation for the trigonometric Darboux-Pöschl-Teller potential. As a result, one-step regular rational extensions of the latter depending both on an integer index $n$ and on a continuously varying parameter $λ$ are constructed. For each $n$ value, the eigenstates of these extended potentials are associated with a novel fam…
We define two isomorphic algebras of differential operators: the first algebra consists of ordinary differential operators and contains the hypergeometric differential operator, while the second one consists of partial differential operators in $d$ variables and contains the Appell-Lauricella partial differential operator. Using this isomorphism, we construct partial differential operators which are Darboux transformations from polynomials of the Appell-Lauricella operator. We show that these operators can be embedded into commutative algebras of partial differential operators, containing $d$ …
Consider the Wronskians of the classical Hermite polynomials $$H_{λ, l}(x):=\mathrm{Wr}(H_l(x),H_{k_1}(x),\ldots, H_{k_n}(x)), \quad l \in \mathbb Z_{\geq 0},$$ where $k_i=λ_i+n-i, \,\, i=1,\dots, n$ and $λ=(λ_1, \dots, λ_n)$ is a partition. Gómez-Ullate et al showed that for a special class of partitions the corresponding polynomials are orthogonal and dense among all polynomials with certain inner product, but in contrast to the usual case have some degrees missing (so called exceptional orthogonal polynomials). We generalise their results to all partitions by considering complex contours of…
We discuss the exceptional Laguerre and the exceptional Jacobi orthogonal polynomials in the framework of the supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSYQM). We express the differential equations for the Jacobi and the Laguerre exceptional orthogonal polynomials (EOP) as the eigenvalue equations and make an analogy with the time independent Schrödinger equation to define "Hamiltonians" enables us to study the EOPs in the framework of the SUSYQM and to realize the underlying shape invariance associated with such systems. We show that the underlying shape invariance symmetry is responsible for the so…
It is pointed out that, for the fractional Fokker-Planck equation for subdiffusion proposed by Metzler, Barkai, and Klafter [Phys. Rev. Lett. 82 (1999) 3563], there are four types of infinitely many exact solutions associated with the newly discovered exceptional orthogonal polynomials. They represent fractionally deformed versions of the Rayleigh process and the Jacobi process.

We construct the coherent states and Schrödinger cat states associated with new types of ladder operators for a particular case of a rationally extended harmonic oscillator involving type III Hermite exceptional orthogonal polynomials. In addition to the coherent states of the annihilation operator, $c$, we form the linearised version, \tilde{c}, and obtain its coherent states. We find that while the coherent states defined as eigenvectors of the annihilation operator $c$ display only quantum behaviour, those of the linearised version, \tilde{c}, have position probability densities displaying …
Exceptional orthogonal polynomials constitute the main part of the bound-state wavefunctions of some solvable quantum potentials, which are rational extensions of well-known shape-invariant ones. The former potentials are most easily built from the latter by using higher-order supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSYQM) or Darboux method. They may in general belong to three different types (or a mixture of them): types I and II, which are strictly isospectral, and type III, for which k extra bound states are created below the starting potential spectrum. A well-known SUSYQM method enables one to…
