Let $X$ be a co-$H$-space of $(p-1)$-cell complex with all cells in even dimensions. Then the loop space $ΩX$ admits a retract $\bar A^{\min}(X)$ that is the evaluation of the functor $\bar A^{\min}$ on $X$. In this paper, we determine the homology $H_*(\bar A^{\min}(X))$ and give the $\EHP$ sequence for the spaces $\bar A^{\min}(X)$.
Recently, the Johnson-McCarthy discrete calculus for homotopy functors was extended to include functors from an unbased simplicial model category to spectra. This paper completes the constructions needed to ensure that there exists a discrete calculus tower for functors from an unbased simplicial model category to chain complexes over a fixed commutative ring. Much of the construction of the Taylor tower for functors to spectra carries over to this context. However, one of the essential steps in the construction requires proving that a particular functor is part of a cotriple. For this, one ne…
The Dowker complex is an abstract simplicial complex that is constructed from a binary relation in a straightforward way. Although there are two ways to perform this construction -- vertices for the complex are either the rows or the columns of the matrix representing the relation -- the two constructions are homotopy equivalent. This article shows that the construction of a Dowker complex from a relation is a non-faithful covariant functor. Furthermore, we show that this functor can be made faithful by enriching the construction into a cosheaf on the Dowker complex. The cosheaf can be summari…
This paper is dedicated to the study of weight complexes (defined on triangulated categories endowed with weight structures) and their applications. We introduce pure (co)homological functors that "ignore all non-zero weights"; these have a nice description in terms of weight complexes. For the weight structure $w^G$ generated by the orbit category in the $G$-equivariant stable homotopy category $SH(G)$ the corresponding pure cohomological functors into abelian groups are the Bredon cohomology associated to Mackey functors ones; pure functors related to motivic weight structures are also quite…
We extend the homotopy theories based on point reduction for finite spaces and simplicial complexes to finite acyclic categories and $Δ$-complexes, respectively. The functors of classifying spaces and face posets are compatible with these homotopy theories. In contrast with the classical settings of finite spaces and simplicial complexes, the universality of morphisms and simplices plays a central role in this paper.
We develop a generalization of manifold calculus in the sense of Goodwillie-Weiss where the manifold is replaced by a simplicial complex. We consider functors from the category of open subsets of a fixed simplical complex into the category of topological spaces and prove an analogue of the approximation theorem. Namely, under certain conditions such a functor can be approximated by a tower of (appropriately adapted) polynomial functors.
Using ideas of the Dowker duality we prove that the Rips complex at scale $r$ is homotopy equivalent to the nerve of a cover consisting of sets of prescribed diameter. We then develop a functorial version of the Nerve theorem coupled with the Dowker duality, which is presented as a Functorial Dowker-Nerve Diagram. These results are incorporated into a systematic theory of filtrations arising from covers. As a result we provide a general framework for reconstruction of spaces by Rips complexes, a short proof of the reconstruction result of Hausmann, and completely classify reconstruction scales…
We construct a homotopy initial functor from the partition complex of a finite set $A$ to a category of trees with leaves labelled by $A$. As an application, this provides an equivalence between different bar constructions of an operad. In the differential graded case, this gives a very elementary proof of an equivalence originally due to Fresse.
Good atlases are defined for effective orbifolds, and a spark complex is constructed on each good atlas. It is proved that this process is 2-functorial with compatible systems playing as morphisms between good atlases, and that the spark character 2-functor factors through this 2-functor.
The goal of this paper is to furnish a literature on Goodwillie calculus for functors defined between categories which derive from chain complexes over a ground field $\Bbbk.$ We characterize homogeneous functors $F: \mathcal{C} \longrightarrow \mathcal{D}$ where $\mathcal{C} ,\mathcal{D}= Ch$ (chain complexes), $Ch_+$(non-negatively graded chain complexes) or $\text{Alg}_\mathcal{O}$ (algebras over a chain complex operad $\mathcal{O}$). In the particular case when $\mathcal{D}= \text{Alg}_\mathcal{O},$ our characterization requires $\Bbbk$ to be of characteristics $0.$ We are then extending t…
We study the asymptotic behavior of the homotopy groups of simply connected finite $p$-local complexes, and define a space to be locally hyperbolic if its homotopy groups have exponential growth. Under some certain conditions related to the functorial decomposition of loop suspension, we prove that the suspended finite complexes are locally hyperbolic if suitable but accessible information of the homotopy groups is known. In particular, we prove that Moore spaces are locally hyperbolic, and other candidates are also given.
For two general polytopal complexes the set of face-wise affine maps between them is shown to be a polytopal complex in an algorithmic way. The resulting algorithm for the affine hom-complex is analyzed in detail. There is also a natural tensor product of polytopal complexes, which is the left adjoint functor for Hom. This extends the corresponding facts from single polytopes, systematic study of which was initiated in [6,12]. Explicit examples of computations of the resulting structures are included. In the special case of simplicial complexes, the affine hom-complex is a functorial subcomple…
We present a detailed introduction of the theory of constructible sheaf complexes in the complex algebraic and analytic setting. All concepts are illustrated by many interesting examples and relevant applications, while some important results are presented with complete proofs. This paper is intended as a broadly accessible user's guide to these topics, providing the readers with a taste of the subject, reflected by concrete examples and applications that motivate the general theory. We discuss the stability of constructible sheaf complexes under the standard functors, and explain the relation…
Let $C_2$ be the cyclic group of order two. We show that the $RO(C_2)$-graded Bredon cohomology of a finite Rep($C_2$)-complex is free as a module over the cohomology of a point when using coefficients in the constant Mackey functor $\underline{\mathbb{F}_2}$. This paper corrects some errors in Kronholm's proof of this freeness theorem. It also extends the freeness result to finite type complexes, those with finitely many cells of each fixed-set dimension. We give a counterexample showing the theorem does not hold for locally finite complexes.
We study liftings of abelian model structures to categories of chain complexes and construct a realization functor from the derived category of a Grothendieck abelian category equipped with a cofibrantly generated, hereditary abelian model structure to the homotopy category of that model structure.
This paper is dedicated to triangulated categories endowed with weight structures (a new notion; D. Pauksztello has independently introduced them as co-t-structures). This axiomatizes the properties of stupid truncations of complexes in $K(B)$. We also construct weight structures for Voevodsky's categories of motives and for various categories of spectra. A weight structure $w$ defines Postnikov towers of objects; these towers are canonical and functorial 'up to morphisms that are zero on cohomology'. For $Hw$ being the heart of $w$ (in $DM_{gm}$ we have $Hw=Chow$) we define a canonical conser…
Given any modular category $\mathcal{C}$ over an algebraically closed field $k$, we extract a sequence $(M_g)_{g\geq 0}$ of $\mathcal{C}$-bimodules. We show that the Hochschild chain complex $CH(\mathcal{C};M_g)$ of $\mathcal{C}$ with coefficients in $M_g$ carries a canonical homotopy coherent projective action of the mapping class group of the surface of genus $g+1$. The ordinary Hochschild complex of $\mathcal{C}$ corresponds to $CH(\mathcal{C};M_0)$. This result is obtained as part of the following more comprehensive topological structure: We construct a symmetric monoidal functor $\mathfra…
If P is a dg-operad acting on a dg-algebra A via algebra homomorphisms, then P acts on the Hochschild complex of A. In the more general case when P is a dg-prop, we show that P still acts on the Hochschild complex, but only up to coherent homotopy. We moreover give a functorial dg-replacement of P that strictifies the action. As an application, we obtain an explicit strictification of the homotopy coherent commutative Hopf algebra structure on the Hochschild complex of a commutative Hopf algebra.
