Given any modular category $\mathcal{C}$ over an algebraically closed field $k$, we extract a sequence $(M_g)_{g\geq 0}$ of $\mathcal{C}$-bimodules. We show that the Hochschild chain complex $CH(\mathcal{C};M_g)$ of $\mathcal{C}$ with coefficients in $M_g$ carries a canonical homotopy coherent projective action of the mapping class group of the surface of genus $g+1$. The ordinary Hochschild complex of $\mathcal{C}$ corresponds to $CH(\mathcal{C};M_0)$.
This result is obtained as part of the following more comprehensive topological structure: We construct a symmetric monoidal functor $\mathfrak{F}_{\mathcal{C}}:\mathcal{C}\text{-}\mathsf{Surf}^{\mathsf{c}}\to\mathsf{Ch}_k$ with values in chain complexes over $k$ defined on a symmetric monoidal category of surfaces whose boundary components are labeled with projective objects in $\mathcal{C}$. The functor $\mathfrak{F}_{\mathcal{C}}$ satisfies an excision property which is formulated in terms of homotopy coends. In this sense, any modular category gives naturally rise to a modular functor with values in chain complexes. In zeroth homology, it recovers Lyubashenko's mapping class group representations.
The chain complexes in our construction are explicitly computable by choosing a marking on the surface, i.e. a cut system and a certain embedded graph. For our proof, we replace the connected and simply connected groupoid of cut systems that appears in the Lego-Teichmüller game by a contractible Kan complex.
We consider L-infinity quasi-isomorphisms for Hochschild cochains whose structure maps admit "graphical expansion". We introduce the notion of stable formality quasi-isomorphism which formalizes such an L-infinity quasi-isomorphism. We define a homotopy equivalence on the set of stable formality quasi-isomorphisms and prove that the set of homotopy classes of stable formality quasi-isomorphisms form a torsor for the group corresponding to the zeroth cohomology of the full (directed) graph complex. This result may be interpreted as a complete description of homotopy classes of formality quasi-i…
We introduce equivariant factorization homology, extending the axiomatic framework of Ayala-Francis to encompass multiplicative invariants of manifolds equipped with finite group actions. Examples of such equivariant factorization homology theories include Bredon equivariant homology and (twisted versions of) Hochschild homology. Our main result is that equivariant factorization homology satisfies an equivariant version of tensor excision, and is uniquely characterised by this property. We also discuss applications to representation theory, such as constructions of categorical braid group acti…
Modular functors, i.e. consistent systems of projective representations of mapping class groups of surfaces, have been constructed for non-semisimple modular categories already decades ago. Concepts from homological algebra have not been used in this construction although it is an obvious question how they should enter in the non-semisimple case. In the present paper, we elucidate the interplay between the structures from topological field theory and from homological algebra by constructing a homotopy coherent projective action of the mapping class group $\text{SL}(2,\mathbb{Z})$ of the torus …
We study the L-infinity-formality problem for the Hochschild complex of the universal enveloping algebra of some examples of Lie algebras such as Cartan-3-regular quadratic Lie algebras (for example semisimple Lie algebras and in more detail so(3)), and free Lie algebras generated by a vector space of dimension at least 2. We show that for these examples formality in Kontsevich's sense does NOT hold, although some of them allow unconditioned deformability. We compute the L-infinity-structure on the cohomology given by homotopy transfer in certain cases.

We summarize our axioms for higher categories, and describe the blob complex. Fixing an n-category C, the blob complex associates a chain complex B_*(W;C)$ to any n-manifold W. The 0-th homology of this chain complex recovers the usual topological quantum field theory invariants of W. The higher homology groups should be viewed as generalizations of Hochschild homology (indeed, when W=S^1 they coincide). The blob complex has a very natural definition in terms of homotopy colimits along decompositions of the manifold W. We outline the important properties of the blob complex, and sketch the pro…
