Let $L$ be a second order divergence form elliptic operator with complex bounded measurable coefficients. The operators arising in connection with $L$, such as the heat semigroup and Riesz transform, are not, in general, of Calderón-Zygmund type and exhibit behavior different from their counterparts built upon the Laplacian. The current paper aims at a thorough description of the properties of such operators in $L^p$, Sobolev, and some new Hardy spaces naturally associated to $L$.
First, we show that the known ranges of boundedness in $L^p$ for the heat semigroup and Riesz transform of $L$, are sharp. In particular, the heat semigroup $e^{-tL}$ need not be bounded in $L^p$ if $p\not\in [2n/(n+2),2n/(n-2)]$. Then we provide a complete description of {\it all} Sobolev spaces in which $L$ admits a bounded functional calculus, in particular, where $e^{-tL}$ is bounded.
Secondly, we develop a comprehensive theory of Hardy and Lipschitz spaces associated to $L$, that serves the range of $p$ beyond $[2n/(n+2),2n/(n-2)]$. It includes, in particular, characterizations by the sharp maximal function and the Riesz transform (for certain ranges of $p$), as well as the molecular decomposition and duality and interpolation theorems.
We prove a fractional version of the Hardy--Sobolev--Maz'ya inequality for arbitrary domains and $L^p$ norms with $p\geq 2$. This inequality combines the fractional Sobolev and the fractional Hardy inequality into a single inequality, while keeping the sharp constant in the Hardy inequality.
We prove a trace Hardy type inequality with the best constant on the polyhedral convex cones which generalizes recent results of Alvino et al. and of Tzirakis on the upper half space. We also prove some trace Hardy-Sobolev-Maz'ya type inequalities which generalize the recent results of Filippas et al.. In applications, we derive some Hardy type inequalities and Hardy-Sobolev-Maz'ya type inequalities for fractional Laplacian. Finally, we prove the logarithmic Sobolev trace inequalities and logarithmic Hardy trace inequalities on the upper half spaces. The best constants in these inequalities ar…
In this paper we describe the Euler semigroup $\{e^{-t\mathbb{E}^{*}\mathbb{E}}\}_{t>0}$ on homogeneous Lie groups, which allows us to obtain various types of the Hardy-Sobolev and Gagliardo-Nirenberg type inequalities for the Euler operator $\mathbb{E}$. Moreover, the sharp remainder terms of the Sobolev type inequality, maximal Hardy inequality and $|\cdot|$-radial weighted Hardy-Sobolev type inequality are established.
We extend the classical Hardy-Sobolev-Poincare-Wirtinger inequalities from the ordinary Lebesgue-Riesz spaces into the Grand Lebesgue ones, with exact constants evaluation.
In this short article we obtain some necessary conditions for a so-called fractional Hardy-Sobolev's inequalities in multidimensional case. We also give some examples to show the sharpness of these inequalities.
We give in this short paper the exact value for norms of two operators of Hardy-Sobolev type acting between two weight Grand Lebesgue Space (GLS) based on the whole multidimensional Euclidean space.
In this paper we focus our attention on an embedding result for a weighted Sobolev space that involves as weight the distance function from the boundary taken with respect to a general smooth gauge function $F$. Starting from this type of inequalities we prove some refined Hardy-type inequalities.
For a pointwise multiplier $φ$ of the Hardy-Sobolev space $H^2_β$ on the open unit ball $\bn$ in $\cn$, we study spectral properties of the multiplication operator $M_φ: H^2_β\to H^2_β$. In particular, we compute the spectrum and essential spectrum of $M_φ$ and develop the Fredholm theory for these operators.
In this paper we show different inequalities for fractional order differential operators. In particular, the Sobolev, Hardy, Gagliardo-Nirenberg and Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type inequalities for the Caputo, Riemann-Liouville and Hadamard derivatives are obtained. In addition, we show some applications of these inequalities.

We characterize a weighted norm inequality which corresponds to the embedding of a class of absolutely continuous functions into the fractional order Sobolev space. The auxiliary result of the paper is of independent interest. It comprises of several types of necessary and sufficient conditions for the boundedness of the Hardy--Steklov operator (an integral operator with two variable boundaries of integration) in weighted Lebesgue spaces.
A classical first-order Hardy-Sobolev inequality in Euclidean domains, involving weighted norms depending on powers of the distance function from their boundary, is known to hold for every, but one, value of the power. We show that, by contrast, the missing power is admissible in a suitable counterpart for higher-order Sobolev norms. Our result complements and extends contributions by Castro and Wang [CW], and Castro, Dávila and Wang [CDW1, CDW2], where a surprising canceling phenomenon underling the relevant inequalities was discovered in the special case of functions with derivatives in $L^1…
We give an alternative proof of recent results by the authors on uniform boundedness of dyadic averaging operators in (quasi-)Banach spaces of Hardy-Sobolev and Triebel-Lizorkin type. This result served as the main tool to establish Schauder basis properties of suitable enumerations of the univariate Haar system in the mentioned spaces. The rather elementary proof here is based on characterizations of the respective spaces in terms of orthogonal compactly supported Daubechies wavelets.
In this paper, we study the best constant of the following discrete Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality, \begin{equation} \sum_{i,j,i\neq j}\frac{f_{i}g_{j}}{\mid i-j\mid^{n-α}}\leq C_{r,s,α} |f|_{l^r} |g|_{l^s}, \end{equation}where $i,j\in \mathbb Z^n$, $r,s>1$, $0<α<n$, and $\frac 1r+\frac 1s+\frac {n-α}n\geq 2$. Indeed, we can prove that the best constant is attainable in the supercritical case $\frac 1r+\frac 1s+\frac {n-α}n> 2$.
We establish simple pointwise characterizations of functions in the Hardy-Sobolev spaces within the range n/(n+1)<p <=1. In addition, classical Hardy inequalities are extended to the case p <= 1.
Given a homogeneous k-th order differential operator $A (D)$ on $\mathbb{R}^n$ between two finite dimensional spaces, we establish the Hardy inequality $$\int_{\mathbb{R}^n} \frac{\lvert D^{k-1}u\rvert}{\lvert x \rvert} \,\mathrm{d} x \leq C \int_{\mathbb{R}^n} \lvert A(D)u\rvert $$ and the Sobolev inequality $$\lVert D^{k-n} u\rVert_{L^{\infty}(\mathbb{R}^n)}\leq C \int_{\mathbb{R}^n} \lvert A(D)u\rvert $$ when $A(D)$ is elliptic and satisfies a recently introduced cancellation property. We also study the necessity of these two conditions.
It is known that classical Hardy and Sobolev inequalities hold when the exponent $p$ and the dimension $N$ satisfy $p < N < \infty$. In this note, we consider two limits of Hardy and Sobolev inequalities as $p \nearrow N$ and $N \nearrow \infty$ in some sense.
The purpose of this text is twofold. We present a review of the existing stability results for Sobolev, Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev (HLS) and related inequalities. We also contribute to the topic with some observations on constructive stability estimates for (HLS).
The purpose of this work is to describe an abstract theory of Hardy-Sobolev spaces on doubling Riemannian manifolds via an atomic decomposition. We study the real interpolation of these spaces with Sobolev spaces and finally give applications to Riesz inequalities.
We obtain the sharp constant for the Hardy-Sobolev inequality involving the distance to the origin. This inequality is equivalent to a limiting Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequality. In three dimensions, in certain cases the sharp constant coincides with the best Sobolev constant.
Dirac-Sobolev and Dirac-Hardy inequalities in $L^1$ are established in which the $L^p$ spaces which feature in the classical Sobolev and Hardy inequalities are replaced by weak $L^p$ spaces. Counter examples to the analogues of the classical inequalities are shown to be provided by zero modes for appropriate Pauli operators constructed by Loss and Yau.
In this article, we derive the existence of positive solutions of a semi-linear, non-local elliptic PDE, involving a singular perturbation of the fractional laplacian, coming from the fractional Hardy-Sobolev-Maz'ya inequality, derived in this paper. We also derive symmetry properties and a precise asymptotic behaviour of solutions.
This paper is a second one following our work [CLZ13] in series, considering sharp Hardy- Littlewood-Sobolev inequalities on groups of Heisenberg type. The first important breakthrough was made by Frank and Lieb in [FL12]. In this paper, analogous results are obtained for octonionic Heisenberg group.
This work focuses on an improved fractional Sobolev inequality with a remainder term involving the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality which has been proved recently. By extending a recent result on the standard Laplacian to the fractional case, we offer a new, simpler proof and provide new estimates on the best constant involved. Using endpoint differentiation, we also obtain an improved version of a Moser-Trudinger-Onofri type inequality on the sphere. As an immediate consequence, we derive an improved version of the Onofri inequality on the Euclidean space using the stereographic projection…
We prove fractional Hardy--Sobolev--Maz'ya inequality for balls and a half-space, partially answering the open problem posed by Frank and Seiringer [arXiv:0906.1561v1 [math.FA], 2009] We note that for half-spaces this inequality has been recently obtained by Sloane [arXiv:1004.4828v1 [math.FA], 2010].
We present the best constant and the existence of extremal functions for an Improved Hardy-Sobolev inequality. We prove that, under a proper transformation, this inequality is equivalent to the Sobolev inequality in $\mathbb{R}^N$. We also discuss the connection of the related functional spaces and as a result we obtain some Caffarelli - Kohn - Nirenberg inequalities. Our starting point is the existence of a minimizer for the Bliss' inequality and the indirect dependence of the Hardy inequality at the origin.
In this paper we study weighted Hardy-Sobolev spaces of vector valued functions analytic on double-napped cones of the complex plane. We introduce these spaces as a tool for complex scaling of linear ordinary differential equations with dilation analytic unbounded operator coefficients. As examples we consider boundary value problems in cylindrical domains and domains with quasicylindrical ends.
We consider Hardy inequalities in $I R^n$, $n \geq 3$, with best constant that involve either distance to the boundary or distance to a surface of co-dimension $k<n$, and we show that they can still be improved by adding a multiple of a whole range of critical norms that at the extreme case become precisely the critical Sobolev norm.
We prove a Hardy-Sobolev-Maz'ya inequality for arbitrary domains Ω\subset\R^N with a constant depending only on the dimension N\geq 3. In particular, for convex domains this settles a conjecture by Filippas, Maz'ya and Tertikas. As an application we derive Hardy-Lieb-Thirring inequalities for eigenvalues of Schrödinger operators on domains.
In this paper, we investigate the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function on non-commutative symmetric spaces. We complete the results of T. Bekjan and J. Shao. Moreover, we refine the main results of the papers \cite{Bek} and \cite{Sh}.
We give a sufficient condition for limiting Sobolev and Hardy inequalities to hold on stratified homogeneous groups. In the Euclidean case, this condition reduces to the known cancelling necessary and sufficient condition. We obtain in particular endpoint Korn--Sobolev and Korn--Hardy inequalities on stratified homogeneous groups.
We provide sufficient conditions for boundary Hardy inequality to hold in bounded Lipschitz domains, complement of a point (the so-called point Hardy inequality), domain above the graph of a Lipschitz function, the complement of a bounded Lipschitz domain in fractional Orlicz-Sobolev setting. As a consequence, we get sufficient conditions for regional fractional Orlicz Poincaré inequality in bounded Lipschitz domains. Necessary conditions for fractional Orlicz Hardy and regional fractional Orlicz Poincaré inequalities are also given for bounded Lipschitz domains. Various sufficient conditions …
We show that the sharp constant in the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality can be derived using the method that we employed earlier for a similar inequality on the Heisenberg group. The merit of this proof is that it does not rely on rearrangement inequalities; it is the first one to do so for the whole parameter range.
In this paper, we establish several new anisotropic Hardy-Sobolev inequalities in mixed Lebesgue spaces and mixed Lorentz spaces, which covers many known corresponding results. As an application, this type of inequalities allows us to generalize some regularity criteria of the 3D axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equations.
We consider the optimizers $u$ in the Hardy-Sobolev inequality for the space $\dot{W}^{s,p}({\mathbb R}^N)$ with order of differentiability $s\in ]0,1[$. After proving existence through concentration-compactness, we derive the pointwise asymptotic $u(x)\simeq |x|^{-\frac{N-ps}{p-1}}$ for large $|x|$ and the summability estimate $u\in \dot{W}^{s,γ}({\mathbb R}^N)$ for all $γ>\frac{N(p-1)}{N-s}$. These estimates are optimal in the limit $s\to 1^-$, in which case optimizers are explicitly known.
We give a new proof of certain cases of the sharp HLS inequality. Instead of symmetric decreasing rearrangement it uses the reflection positivity of inversions in spheres. In doing this we extend a characterization of the minimizing functions due to Li and Zhu.
In this paper, we got several sharp Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev-type inequalities on quaternionic Heisenberg groups (a general form due to Folland and Stein [FS74]), using the symmetrization-free method in a paper of Frank and Lieb [FL12], where they considered the analogues on classical Heisenberg group. First, we give the sharp Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequalities, both on quaternionic Heisenberg group and its equivalent on quaternionic sphere for exponent bigger than 4. The extremizer, as we guess, is almost uniquely constant function on sphere. Then their dual form, sharp conformally-invaria…
We introduce the concept of spherical (as distinguished from planar) reflection positivity and use it to obtain a new proof of the sharp constants in certain cases of the HLS and the logarithmic HLS inequality. Our proofs relies on an extension of a work by Li and Zhu which characterizes the minimizing functions of the type $(1+|x|^2)^{-p}$.
We show that, for suitable enumerations, the multivariate Haar system is a Schauder basis in the classical Sobolev spaces on $\mathbb R^d$ with integrability $1<p<\infty$ and smoothness $1/p-1<s<1/p$. This complements earlier work by the last two authors on the unconditionality of the Haar system and implies that it is a {conditional} Schauder basis for a nonempty open subset of the $(1/p,s)$-diagram. The results extend to (quasi-)Banach spaces of Hardy-Sobolev and Triebel-Lizorkin type in the range of parameters $\frac{d}{d+1}<p<\infty$ and $\max\{d(1/p-1),1/p-1\}<s<\min\{1,1/p\}$, which is o…
