In this article, a sublinear expectation induced by $G$-expectation is introduced, which is called $G$-evaluation for convenience. As an application, we prove that any $ξ\in L^β_G(Ω_T)$ with some $β>1$ the decomposition theorem holds and any $β>1$ integrable symmetric $G$-martingale can be represented as an It$\hat{o}'s$ integral w.r.t $G$-Brownian motion. As a byproduct, we prove a regular property for $G$-martingale: Any $G$-martingale $\{M_t\}$ has a quasi-continuous version
Martingale transport plans on the line are known from Beiglbock & Juillet to have an irreducible decomposition on a (at most) countable union of intervals. We provide an extension of this decomposition for martingale transport plans in R^d, d larger than one. Our decomposition is a partition of R^d consisting of a possibly uncountable family of relatively open convex components, with the required measurability so that the disintegration is well-defined. We justify the relevance of our decomposition by proving the existence of a martingale transport plan filling these components. We also deduce…
This paper presents a generalization of the Kunita-Watanabe decomposition of a $L^2$ space with nonlinear stochastic integrals where the integrator is a family of continuous martingales bounded in $L^2$. To get the result, a useful relation between the regularity of the martingale family respect to its parameter and the regularity of the integrand in its martingale decomposition is shown. The decomposition presented in the main result is also the solution of an optimization problem in $L^2$. Finally, an example is given where the optimization problem is solved explicitely.
In this paper, we present martingale decomposition on time scales. We establish the related backward stochastic dynamic equations on time scales (this paper BS$\nabla$E for short, concerning $\nabla$-integral on time scales) which unify backward stochastic differential equations and backward stochastic difference equations. We prove the existence and uniqueness theorem of BS$\nabla$E. This work can be considered as a unification and a generalization of similar results in backward stochastic difference equations and backward stochastic differential equations.
We prove a martingale-coboundary representation for random fields with a completely commuting filtration. For random variables in L2 we present a necessary and sufficient condition which is a generalization of Heyde's condition for one dimensional processes from 1975. For Lp spaces with 2 \leq p < \infty we give a necessary and sufficient condition which extends Volny's result from 1993 to random fields and improves condition of El Machkouri and Giraudo from 2016 (arXiv:1410.3062). In application, new weak invariance principle and estimates of large deviations are found.
Evans (1992) described the semi-group of a superprocess with quadratic branching mechanism under a martingale change of measure in terms of the semi-group of an immortal particle and the semigroup of the superprocess prior to the change of measure. This result, commonly referred to as the spine decomposition, alludes to a pathwise decomposition in which independent copies of the original process `immigrate' along the path of the immortal particle. For branching particle diffusions the analogue of this decomposition has already been demonstrated in the pathwise sense, see for example Hardy and …
We investigate the properties of the variable Lebesgue spaces with quasi-norm on a probability space, and give the atomic decompositions suited to the variable exponent martingale Hardy spaces. Using the decompositions and the harmonic mean of a variable exponent, we obtain several continuous embedding relations between martingale Hardy spaces with small exponent. Finally, we extend these results to the cases $0<p^-\leq p^+<\infty.$
We show that the canonical decomposition (comprising both the Meyer-Yoeurp and the Yoeurp decompositions) of a general $X$-valued local martingale is possible if and only if $X$ has the UMD property. More precisely, $X$ is a UMD Banach space if and only if for any $X$-valued local martingale $M$ there exist a continuous local martingale $M^c$, a purely discontinuous quasi-left continuous local martingale $M^q$, and a purely discontinuous local martingale $M^a$ with accessible jumps such that $M = M^c + M^q + M^a$. The corresponding weak $L^1$-estimates are provided. Important tools used in the…
In this paper we consider Meyer-Yoeurp decompositions for UMD Banach space-valued martingales. Namely, we prove that $X$ is a UMD Banach space if and only if for any fixed $p\in (1,\infty)$, any $X$-valued $L^p$-martingale $M$ has a unique decomposition $M = M^d + M^c$ such that $M^d$ is a purely discontinuous martingale, $M^c$ is a continuous martingale, $M^c_0=0$ and \[ \mathbb E \|M^d_{\infty}\|^p + \mathbb E \|M^c_{\infty}\|^p\leq c_{p,X} \mathbb E \|M_{\infty}\|^p. \] An analogous assertion is shown for the Yoeurp decomposition of a purely discontinuous martingales into a sum of a quasi-l…
In this paper, we introduce the notion of martingale Hardy-amalgam spaces: $ H^s_{p,q},\,\,\mathcal{Q}_{p,q}$ and $\mathcal{P}_{p,q}$. We present two atomic decompositions for these spaces. The dual space of $H^s_{p,q}$ for $0<p\le q\le 1$ is shown to be a Campanato-type space.
We provide an analogue of Gundy's decomposition for L1-bounded non-commutative martingales. An important difference from the classical case is that for any L1-bounded non-commutative martingale, the decomposition consists of four martingales. This is strongly related with the row/column nature of non-commutative Hardy spaces of martingales. As applications, we obtain simpler proofs of the weak type (1,1) boundedness for non-commutative martingale transforms and the non-commutative analogue of Burkholder's weak type inequality for square functions. A sequence (x_n) in a normed space X is called…
In this paper, we provide a pathwise spine decomposition for superprocesses with both local and non-local branching mechanisms under a martingale change of measure. This result complements the related results obtained in Evans (1993), Kyprianou et al. (2012) and Liu, Ren and Song (2009) for superprocesses with purely local branching mechanisms and in Chen, Ren and Song (2016) and Kyprianou and Palau (2016) for multitype superprocesses. As an application of this decomposition, we obtain necessary/sufficient conditions for the limit of the fundamental martingale to be non-degenerate. In particul…
We show that for a quantum $L^p$-martingale $(X(t))$, $p>2$, there exists a Doob-Meyer decomposition of the submartingale $(|X(t)|^2)$. A noncommutative counterpart of a classical process continuous with probability one is introduced, and a quantum stochastic integral of such a process with respect to an $L^p$-martingale, $p>2$, is constructed. Using this construction, the uniqueness of the Doob-Meyer decomposition for a quantum martingale `continuous with probability one' is proved, and explicit forms of this decomposition and the quadratic variation process for such a martingale are obtained…
We prove an atomic type decomposition for the noncommutative martingale Hardy space $\h_p$ for all $0<p<2$ by an explicit constructive method using algebraic atoms as building blocks. Using this elementary construction, we obtain a weak form of the atomic decomposition of $\h_p$ for all $0< p < 1,$ and provide a constructive proof of the atomic decomposition for $p=1$. We also study $(p,\8)_c$-atoms, and show that every $(p,2)_c$-atom can be decomposed into a sum of $(p,\8)_c$-atoms; consequently, for every $0<p\le 1$, the $(p,q)_c$-atoms lead to the same atomic space for all $2\le q\le\8$. As…
In this paper, we establish a multiplicative decomposition formula for nonnegative local martingales and use it to characterize the set of continuous local submartingales Y of the form Y=N+A, where the measure dA is carried by the set of zeros of Y. In particular, we shall see that in the set of all local submartingales with the same martingale part in the multiplicative decomposition, these submartingales are the smallest ones. We also study some integrability questions in the multiplicative decomposition and interpret the notion of saturated sets in the light of our results.
In this paper, several weak Orlicz-Hardy martingale spaces associated with concave functions are introduced, and some weak atomic decomposition theorems for them are established. With the help of weak atomic decompositions, a sufficient condition for a sublinear operator defined on the weak Orlicz-Hardy martingale spaces to be bounded is given. Further, we investigate the duality of weak Orlicz-Hardy martingale spaces and obtain a new John-Nirenberg type inequality when the stochastic basis is regular. These results can be regarded as weak versions of the Orlicz-Hardy martingale spaces due to …
We present an elementary treatment of the Optional Decomposition Theorem for continuous semimartingales and general filtrations. This treatment does not assume the existence of equivalent local martingale measure(s), only that of strictly positive local martingale deflator(s).
In this paper, we establish continuous bilinear decompositions that arise in the study of products between elements in martingale Hardy spaces $ H^p\ (0<p\leqslant 1) $ and functions in their dual spaces. Our decompositions are based on martingale paraproducts. As a consequence of our work, we also obtain analogous results for dyadic martingales on spaces of homogeneous type equipped with a doubling measure.
We study such important properties of $f$-divergence minimal martingale measure as Levy preservation property, scaling property, invariance in time property for exponential Levy models. We give some useful decomposition for $f$-divergence minimal martingale measures and we answer on the question which form should have $f$ to ensure mentioned properties. We show that $f$ is not necessarily common $f$-divergence. For common $f$-divergences, i.e. functions verifying $f"(x) = ax^ γ,\, a>0,\, γ\in \mathbb R$, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for existence of $f$-minimal martingale measur…
In this paper, we study the John-Nirenberg inequality for BMO and the atomic decomposition for H1 of noncommutative martingales. We first establish a crude version of the column (resp. row) John-Nirenberg inequality for all 0 < p < \infty. By an extreme point property of Lp -space for 0 < p \leq 1, we then obtain a fine version of this in equality. The latter corresponds exactly to the classical John-Nirenberg inequality and enables us to obtain an exponential integrability inequality like in the classical case. These results extend and improve Junge and Musat's John-Nirenberg inequality. By d…
Some martingale characterizations of compound mixed Poisson processes are proven, extending S. Watanabe's (1964) martingale characterization of Poisson processes as well as the main result of Lyberopoulos and Macheras (2012), concerning martingale characterizations of mixed Poisson processes.
Using properties of backward stochastic differential equations we give new proofs of some well known results on BMO martingales and improve some estimates of BMO norms.
We provides some useful estimates for solving martingale representation problem under G-expectations. We also study the corresponding conditions for the existence and uniqueness.
A stationary random sequence admits under some assumptions a representation as the sum of two others: one of them is a martingale difference sequence, and another is a so-called coboundary. Such a representation can be used for proving some limit theorems by means of the martingale approximation. A multivariate version of such a decomposition is presented in the paper for a class of random fields generated by several commuting non-invertible probability preserving transformations. In this representation summands of mixed type appear which behave with respect to some groupof directions of the p…
In this note we prove that the local martingale part of a convex function f of a d-dimensional semimartingale X = M + A can be written in terms of an It^o stochastic integral \int H(X)dM, where H(x) is some particular measurable choice of subgradient of f at x, and M is the martingale part of X. This result was first proved by Bouleau in [2]. Here we present a new treatment of the problem. We first prove the result for X' = X + eB, e > 0, where B is a standard Brownian motion, and then pass to the limit as e tends to 0, using results in [1] and [4].
We obtain Calder{ó}n-Zygmund estimates for some degenerate equations of Kolmogorov type with inhomogeneous coefficients. We then derive the well-posedness of the martingale problem associated to related degenerate operators, and therefore uniqueness in law for the corresponding stochastic differential equations. Some density estimates are established as well.
This paper presents the integral(or differential) form of G-BSDEs, gives some kind of apriori estimates of their solutions, and under a very strong condition, proves the G-martingale representation theorem, and the existence and uniqueness theorem of G-BSDEs.
In this paper, we provide a pathwise spine decomposition for multitype superdiffusions with non-local branching mechanisms under a martingale change of measure. As an application of this decomposition, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition (called the $L\log L$ criterion) for the limit of the fundamental martingale to be non-degenerate. This result complements the related results for superprocesses with purely local branching mechanisms and in Kyprianou and Palau (2016) for super Markov chains.
In this article we establish a large deviation principle for the family {ν_ε:ε\in (0,1)} of distributions of the scaled stochastic processes {P_{-\log\sqrtε}Z_t}_{t\leq 1}, where (Z_t)_{t\in \lbrack 0,1]} is a square-integrable martingale over Brownian filtration and (P_t)_{t\geq 0} is the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup. The rate function is identified as well in terms of the Wiener-Itô chaos decomposition of the terminal value Z_{1}. The result is established by developing a continuity theorem for large deviations, together with two essential tools, the hypercontractivity of the Ornstein-Uhlenb…
In this paper, martingales related to simple random walks and their maximum process are investigated. First, a sufficient condition under which a function with three arguments, time, the random walk, and its maximum process becomes a martingale is presented, and as an application, an alternative way of deriving the Kennedy martingale is provided. Then, a complete characterization of a function with two arguments, the random walk and its maximum, being a martingale is presented. This martingale can be regarded as a discrete version of the Azéma--Yor martingale. As applications of discrete Azéma…
Given two martingales on the filtration generated by two dimensional Brownian motion, we want to estimate the $L^p$ norm of the subordinated one if we have some extra orthogonality property available. We construct several new Bellman functions, very different from Burkholder's function, and using them give an estimate of $L^p$ norm of a subordinated martingale, if the dominating martingale is orthogonal and $1<p\le 2$. We use Monge--Ampere equation to construct these Bellman functions.
As is known, a process of form $\int_0^tη_sd\langle B\rangle_s-\int_0^t2G(η_s)ds$, $η\in M^1_G(0,T)$, is a non-increasing $G$-martingale. In this paper, we shall show that a non-increasing $G$-martingale could not be form of $\int_0^tη_sds$ or $\int_0^tγ_sd\langle B\rangle_s$, $η, γ\in M^1_G(0,T)$, which implies that the decomposition for generalized $G$-Itô processes is unique: For $ζ\in H^1_G(0,T)$, $η\in M^1_G(0,T)$ and non-increasing $G$-martingales $K, L$, if \[\int_0^tζ_s dB_s+\int_0^tη_sds+K_t=L_t,\ t\in[0,T],\] then we have $η\equiv0$, $ζ\equiv0$ and $K_t=L_t$. As an application, we gi…
We introduce the analogue of Dunkl processes in the case of an affine root system of type $\widetilde{\text{A}}_1$. The construction of the affine Dunkl process is achieved by a skew-product decomposition by means of its radial part and a jump process on the affine Weyl group, where the radial part of the affine Dunkl process is defined as the unique solution of some stochastic differential equation. We prove that the affine Dunkl process is a càdlàg Markov process as well as a local martingale, study its jumps, and give a martingale decomposition, which are properties similar to those of the …
Some general connections between martingales and character ratios of finite groups are developed. As an application we sharpen the convergence rate in a central limit theorem for the character ratio of a random representation of the symmetric group on transpositions. A generalization of these results is given for Jack measure on partitions. We also give a probabilistic proof of a result of Burnside and Brauer on the decomposition of tensor products.
In this paper, we study Bessel processes of dimension $δ\equiv2(1-μ)$, with $0<δ<2$, and some related martingales and random times. Our approach is based on martingale techniques and the general theory of stochastic processes (unlike the usual approach based on excursion theory), although for $0<δ<1$, these processes are even not semimartingales. The last time before 1 when a Bessel process hits 0, called $g_μ$, plays a key role in our study: we characterize its conditional distribution and extend Paul Lévy's arc sine law and a related result of Jeulin about the standard Brownian Motion. We al…
Let $p(\cdot)$ be a measurable function defined on a probability space satisfying $0<p_-:={\rm ess}\inf_{x\in Ω}p(x)\leq {\rm ess}\sup_{x\inΩ}p(x)=:p_+<\infty$. We investigate five types of martingale Hardy spaces $H_{p(\cdot)}$ and $H_{p(\cdot),q}$ and prove their atomic decompositions when each $σ$-algebra $\mathcal F_n$ is generated by countably many atoms. Martingale inequalities and the relation of the different martingale Hardy spaces are proved as application of the atomic decomposition. In order to get these results, we introduce the following condition to replace (generalize) the so-c…
We study the limits of the additive and derivative martingales of one-dimensional branching Brownian motion in a periodic environment. Then we prove the existence of pulsating travelling wave solutions of the corresponding F-KPP equation in the supercritical and critical cases by representing the solutions probabilistically in terms of the limits of the additive and derivative martingales. We also prove that there is no pulsating travelling wave solution in the subcritical case. Our main tools are the spine decomposition and martingale change of measures.
We give an elementary proof of the celebrated Bichteler-Dellacherie Theorem which states that the class of stochastic processes $S$ allowing for a useful integration theory consists precisely of those processes which can be written in the form $S=M+A$, where $M$ is a local martingale and $A$ is a finite variation process. In other words, $S$ is a good integrator if and only if it is a semi-martingale. We obtain this decomposition rather directly from an elementary discrete-time Doob-Meyer decomposition. By passing to convex combinations we obtain a direct construction of the continuous time de…
We derive inequalities for time-discrete and time-continuous martingales that are similar to the well-known Burkholder inequalities. For the time-discrete case arbitrary martingales in $L^p(Ω)$ are treated, whereas in the time-continuous case martingales defined by Itô integrals w.r.t. a multi-dimensional Wiener process are considered. The estimates for the time-discrete martingales are related to the more general results by I. Pinelis (1994) and are proved to be sharp by a different and more elementary proof for this special setting. Further, for time-continuous martingales the presented ineq…
Given a probability space $(Ω,Σ,μ)$, the Hardy space $\mathrm{H}_1(Ω)$ which is associated to the martingale square function does not admit a classical atomic decomposition when the underlying filtration is not regular. In this paper we construct a decomposition of $\mathrm{H}_1(Ω)$ into "atomic blocks"${}$ in the spirit of Tolsa, which we will introduce for martingales. We provide three proofs of this result. Only the first one also applies to noncommutative martingales, the main target of this paper. The other proofs emphasize alternative approaches for commutative martingales. One might be …
We illustrate a process that constructs martingales from raw material that arises naturally from the theory of sampling without replacement. The usefulness of the new martingales is illustrated by the development of maximal inequalities for permuted sequences of real numbers. Some of these inequalities are new and some are variations of classical inequalities like those introduced by A. Garsia in the study of rearrangement of orthogonal series.
Dunkl processes are martingales as well as càdlàg homogeneous Markov processes taking values in $\mathbb{R}^d$ and they are naturally associated with a root system. In this paper we study the jumps of these processes, we describe precisely their martingale decompositions into continuous and purely discontinuous parts and we obtain a Wiener chaos decomposition of the corresponding $L^2$ spaces of these processes in terms of adequate mixed multiple stochastic integrals.
Renz (1996), Ouchti(2005), El Machkouri and Ouchti (2007) and Mourrat (2013) have established the bounds on the rate of convergence in the central limit theorem for discrete time martingales. In the present paper a modification of the methods, developed by Bolthausen (1982) and Grama and Haeusler (2000), is applied for obtaining exact rates of convergence in the central limit theorem for martingales with differences having conditional moments of order $2+ρ, ρ>0$. Our results significantly improve and generalise the bounds of Renz (1996), Ouchti(2005), El Machkouri and Ouchti (2007) and Mourrat…
We deal with various alternative decompositions of F-martingales with respect to the filtration G which represents the enlargement of a filtration F by a progressive flow of observations of a random time that either belongs to the class of pseudo-honest times or satisfies the extended density hypothesis. Several related results from the existing literature are essentially extended. Results on G-semimartingale decompositions of F-local martingales are crucial for applications in financial mathematics, most notably in the context of modeling credit risk and the study of insider trading where the…
A class of stochastic processes, called "weak Dirichlet processes", is introduced and its properties are investigated in detail. This class is much larger than the class of Dirichlet processes. It is closed under C^1$-transformations and under absolutely continuous change of measure. If a weak Dirichlet process has finite energy, as defined by Graversen and Rao, its Doob-Meyer type decomposition is unique. The developed methods have been applied to a study of generalized martingale convolutions.
We extend some known results relating the distribution tails of a continuous local martingale supremum and its quadratic variation to the case of locally square integrable martingales with bounded jumps. The predictable and optional quadratic variations are involved in the main result.
Some classes of increment martingales, and the corresponding localized classes, are studied. An increment martingale is indexed by the real line and its increment processes are martingales. We focus primarily on the behavior as time goes to minus infinity in relation to the quadratic variation or the predictable quadratic variation, and we relate the limiting behavior to the martingale property. Finally, integration with respect to an increment martingale is studied.
We consider functional equations (Cauchy's, Abel's and some other functional equations) and show that to find general solution of these equations is equivalent to establish that a space-transformation of a Brownian Motion by suitable function (or functions) is a martingale.
We consider a diffusion processes $\{ X_t \}$ on an interval in the natural scale. Some results are known under which $\{ X_t \}$ is a martingale, and we give simple and analytic proofs for them.
