We study strong ratio limit properties of the quotients of the heat kernels of subcritical and critical operators which are defined on a noncompact Riemannian manifold.
The geometry of the quaternionic anti-de Sitter fibration is studied in details. As a consequence, we obtain formulas for the horizontal Laplacian and subelliptic heat kernel of the fibration. The heat kernel formula is explicit enough to derive small time asymptotics. Related twistor spaces and corresponding heat kernels are also discussed and the connection to the quaternionic magnetic Laplacian is done.
By using Duhamel's formula, we prove sharp two-sided estimates for the heat kernel of spectral fractional Laplacian with time-dependent gradient perturbation in bounded $C^{1,1}$ domains. Moreover, we also obtain gradient estimate as well as Hölder continuity of the gradient of the heat kernel.
We estimate the heat kernel of the smooth open set for the isotropic unimodal pure-jump Lévy process with infinite Lévy measure and weakly scaling Lévy-Kchintchine exponent.
Under some mild assumptions on the Levy measure and the symbol we obtain gradient estimates of Dirichlet heat kernels for pure-jump isotropic unimodal Levy processes in $R^d$.
We study strong ratio limit properties and the exact long time asymptotics of the heat kernel of a general second-order parabolic operator which is defined on a noncompact Riemannian manifold.
We study Schroedinger operators with Robin boundary conditions on exterior domains in $\R^d$. We prove sharp point-wise estimates for the associated semi-groups which show, in particular, how the boundary conditions affect the time decay of the heat kernel in dimensions one and two. Applications to spectral estimates are discussed as well.
We establish sharp two-sided bounds on the heat kernel of the fractional Laplacian, perturbed by a drift having critical-order singularity, by transferring it to appropriate weighted space with singular weight.
We consider Laplacians acting on sections of homogeneous vector bundles over symmetric spaces. By using an integral representation of the heat semi-group we find a formal solution for the heat kernel diagonal that gives a generating function for the whole sequence of heat invariants. We show explicitly that the obtained result correctly reproduces the first non-trivial heat kernel coefficient as well as the exact heat kernel diagonals on two-dimensional sphere $S^2$ and the hyperbolic plane $H^2$. We argue that the obtained formal solution correctly reproduces the exact heat kernel diagonal af…
We consider Laplacians acting on sections of homogeneous vector bundles over symmetric spaces. By using an integral representation of the heat semi-group we find a formal solution for the heat kernel diagonal that gives a generating function for the whole sequence of heat invariants. We argue that the obtained formal solution correctly reproduces the exact heat kernel diagonal after a suitable regularization and analytical continuation.
Using a new inequality relating the heat kernel and the probability of survival, we prove asymptotic ratio limit theorems for the heat kernel (and survival probability) in general Benedicks domains. In particular, the dimension of the cone of positive harmonic measures with Dirichlet boundary condition can be derived from the rate of convergence to zero of the heat kernel (or the survival probability).
In this paper, we study a subelliptic heat kernel on the Lie group SL(2,R) and on its universal covering. The subelliptic structure on SL(2,R) comes from the fibration $SO(2) -> SL(2,R) -> H^2$ and it can be lifted to its universal covering. First, we derive an integral representation for these heat kernels. These expressions allow us to obtain some asymptotics in small time of the heat kernels and give us a way to compute the subriemannian distances. Then, we establish some gradient estimates and some functional inequalities like a Li-Yau type estimate and a reverse Poincaré inequality that a…
The Lie group SU(2) endowed with its canonical subriemannian structure appears as a three-dimensional model of a positively curved subelliptic space. The goal of this work is to study the subelliptic heat kernel on it and some related functional inequalities.
We provide sharp two-sided estimates on the Dirichlet heat kernel $k_1(t,x,y)$ for the Laplacian in a ball. The result accurately describes the exponential behaviour of the kernel for small times and significantly improves the qualitatively sharp results known so far. As a consequence we obtain the full description of the kernel $k_1(t,x,y)$ in terms of its global two-sided sharp estimates.
We give a direct proof of the sharp two-sided estimates, recently established in [4,9], for the Dirichlet heat kernel of the fractional Laplacian with gradient perturbation in $C^{1, 1}$ open sets by using Duhamel formula. We also obtain a gradient estimate for the Dirichlet heat kernel. Our assumption on the open set is slightly weaker in that we only require $D$ to be $C^{1,θ}$ for some $θ\in (α/2, 1]$.
We establish Gaussian-type upper bounds on the heat kernel for a continuous-time random walk on a graph with unbounded weights under an ergodicity assumption. For the proof we use Davies' perturbation method, where we show a maximal inequality for the perturbed heat kernel via Moser iteration.
In this paper we establish the existence and uniqueness of heat kernels to a large class of time-inhomogenous non-symmetric nonlocal operators with Dini's continuous kernels. Moreover, quantitative estimates including two-sided estimates, gradient estimate and fractional derivative estimate of the heat kernels are obtained.
We give a short proof of a strong version of the short time asymptotic expansion of heat kernels associated to Laplace type operators acting on sections of vector bundles over compact Riemannian manifolds, including exponential decay of the difference of the approximate heat kernel and the true heat kernel. We use this to show that repeated convolution of the approximate heat kernels can be used to approximate the heat kernel on all of $M$, which is related to expressing the heat kernel as a path integral. This scheme is then applied to obtain a short-time asymptotic expansion of the heat kern…
We apply the Davies method to give a quick proof for upper estimate of the heat kernel for the non-local Dirichlet form on the ultra-metric space. The key observation is that the heat kernel of the truncated Dirichlet form vanishes when two spatial points are separated by any ball of radius larger than the truncated range. This new phenomenon arises from the ultra-metric property of the space.
We investigate heat kernel estimates of the form $p_{t}(x, x)\geq c_{x}t^{-α},$ for large enough $t,$ where $α$ and $c_{x}$ are positive reals and $c_{x}$ may depend on $x,$ on manifolds having at least one end.
The heat kernel for the Cauchy-Riemann subLaplacian on S(2n+1) is derived in a manner which is completely analogous to the classical derivation of elliptic heat kernels. This suggests that the classical hamiltonian construction of elliptic heat kernels, with appropriate modifications, does yield heat kernels for subelliptic operators.
We study the subelliptic heat kernel of the sub-Laplacian on a 2n+1-dimensional anti-de Sitter space H2n+1 which also appears as a model space of a CR Sasakian manifold with constant negative sectional curvature. In particular we obtain an explicit and geometrically meaningful formula for the subelliptic heat kernel. The key idea is to work in a set of coordinates that reflects the symmetry coming from the Hopf fibration S1->H2n+1. A direct application is obtaining small time asymptotics of the subelliptic heat kernel. Also we derive an explicit formula for the sub-Riemannian distance on H2n+1
We investigate the heat kernel with Robin boundary condition and prove comparison theorems for heat kernel on geodesic balls and on minimal submanifolds. We also prove an eigenvalue comparison theorem for the first Robin eigenvalues on minimal submanifolds. This generalizes corresponding results for the Dirichlet and Neumann heat kernels.
The aim of this paper is threefold. First, we obtain the precise bounds for the heat kernel on isotropic Heisenberg groups by using well-known results in the three dimensional case. Second, we study the asymptotic estimates at infinity for the heat kernel on nonisotropic Heisenberg groups. As a consequence, we give uniform upper and lower estimates of the heat kernel, and complete its short-time behavior obtained by Beals-Gaveau-Greiner. Third, we complete the results obtained in \cite{Li12} about the heat kernel of Grushin operators.
In this work we construct the heat kernel of the 1/2-order Laplacian perturbed by the first-order gradient term in Hölder space and the zero-order potential term in generalized Kato's class, and obtain sharp two-sided estimates as well as the gradient estimate of the heat kernel.
In a 1991 paper by Buttig and Eichhorn, the existence and uniqueness of a differential forms heat kernel on open manifolds of bounded geometry was proven. In that paper, it was shown that the heat kernel obeyed certain properties, one of which was a relationship between the derivative of heat kernel of different degrees. We will give a proof of this condition for complete manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded below, and then use it to give an integral representation of the heat kernel of degree $k$.
From the uniformization theorem, we know that every Riemann surface has a simply-connected covering space. Moreover, there are only three simply-connected Riemann surfaces: the sphere, the Euclidean plane, and the hyperbolic plane. In this paper, we collect the known heat kernels, or Green's functions, for these three surfaces, and we derive the differential forms heat kernels as well. Then we give a method for using the heat kernels on the universal cover to generate the heat kernel on the underlying surface.
We derive estimates of the derivatives of the heat kernel on noncompact symmetric spaces and on locally symmetric spaces. Applying these estimates we study the $L^{p}$-boundedness of Littlewood-Paley-Stein operators and the Laplacian of the heat operator on a wide class of locally symmetric spaces.
The starting point of our analysis is an old idea of writing an eigenfunction expansion for a heat kernel considered in the case of a hypoelliptic heat kernel on a nilpotent Lie group $G$. One of the ingredients of this approach is the generalized Fourier transform. The formula one gets using this approach is explicit as long as we can find all unitary irreducible representations of $G$. In the current paper we consider an $n$-step nilpotent Lie group $G_{n}$ as an illustration of this technique. First we apply Kirillov's orbit method to describe these representations for $G_{n}$. This allows …
We study the heat kernel transform on a nilmanifold M associated to a H-type group. Using a reduction technique we reduce the problem to the case of Heisenberg groups. The image of $ L^2(M) $ under the heat kernel transform is shown to be a direct sum of weighted Bergman spaces.
We establish heat kernel and gradient estimates for the density of kinetic degenerate Kolmogorov stochastic differentia equations. Our results are established under somehow minimal assumptions that guarantee the SDE is weakly well posed.
In this paper, we study Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operators with quadratic potentials. We use Hamiltonian formalism to characterise the singularities produced by the potentials by finding explicit geodesics of the operators, and obtain the heat kernels via a probabilistic ansatz. All the formulae are closed.
We apply Davies' method for obtaining pointwise lower bounds on the heat kernels of higher-order differential operators to obtain pointwise lower bounds in the presence of a polynomialy bounded potential.
We adapt in the present note the perturbation method introduced in [3] to get a Gaussian lower bound for the Neumann heat kernel of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on an open subset of a compact Riemannian manifold.
We consider Dirichlet heat kernel $p_a^{(μ)}(t,x,y)$ for the Bessel differential operator $L^{(μ)}=\frac{d^2}{dx^2}+\frac{2μ+1}{2x}$, $μ\in\mathbb{R}$, in half-line $(a,\infty)$, $a>0$, and provide its asymptotic expansions for $xy/t\rightarrow\infty$.
We prove a conjecture of Bernstein that the superconvexity of the heat kernel on hyperbolic space holds in all dimensions and, hence, there is an analog of Huisken's monotonicity formula for mean curvature flow in hyperbolic space of all dimensions.
The purpose of this paper is to establish a new continuous-time on-diagonal lower estimate of heat kernel for large time on graphs. To achieve the goal, we first give an upper bound of heat kernel in natural graph metric, and then use this bound and the volume growth condition to show the validity of the on-diagonal lower bound.
We obtain pointwise lower bounds for heat kernels of higher order differential operators with Dirichlet boundary conditions on bounded domains in $\R^N$. The bounds exhibit explicitly the nature of the spatial decay of the heat kernel close to the boundary. We make no smoothness assumptions on our operator coefficients which we assume only to be bounded and measurable.
We obtain an upper heat kernel bound for the Laplacian on metric graphs arising as one skeletons of certain polygonal tilings of the plane, which reflects the one dimensional as well as the two dimensional nature of these graphs.
We obtain Gaussian upper bounds for heat kernels of higher order differential operators with Dirichlet boundary conditions on bounded domains in $\R^N$. The bounds exhibit explicitly the nature of the spatial decay of the heat kernel close to the boundary as well as the long-time exponential decay implied by the spectral gap. We make no smoothness assumptions on our operator coefficients which we assume only to be bounded and measurable Keywords : Heat Kernel, Parabolic, Uniformly Elliptic, Gaussian.
We prove that in presence of $L^2$ Gaussian estimates, so-called Davies-Gaffney estimates, on-diagonal upper bounds imply precise off-diagonal Gaussian upper bounds for the kernels of analytic families of operators on metric measure spaces.
The aim of this paper is to construct (explicit) heat kernels for some hybrid evolution equations which arise in physics, conformal geometry and subelliptic PDEs. Hybrid means that the relevant partial differential operator appears in the form $\mathscr L_1 + \mathscr L_2 - \partial_t$, but the variables cannot be decoupled. As a consequence, the relative heat kernel cannot be obtained as the product of the heat kernels of the operators $\mathscr L_1 - \partial_t$ and $\mathscr L_2 - \partial_t$. Our approach is new and ultimately rests on the generalised Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operators in the op…
In this paper we study the small time asymptotics for the heat kernel on a sub-Riemannian manifold, using a perturbative approach. We then explicitly compute, in the case of a 3D contact structure, the first two coefficients of the small time asymptotics expansion of the heat kernel on the diagonal, expressing them in terms of the two basic functional invariants $χ$ and $κ$ defined on a 3D contact structure.
Estimates are obtained for the expected volume of intersection of independent Wiener sausages in Euclidean space in the small time limit. The asymptotic behaviour of the weighted diagonal heat kernel norm on compact Riemannian manifolds with smooth boundary is obtained in the small time limit
We obtain Sobolev inequalities for the Schrodinger operator -Δ-V, where V has critical behaviour V(x)=((N-2)/2)^2|x|^{-2} near the origin. We apply these inequalities to obtain pointwise estimates on the associated heat kernel, improving upon earlier results.
In this paper, we study the large time behavior of the heat kernel on complete Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature, which was studied by P. Li with additional maximum volume growth assumption. Following Y. Ding's original strategy, by blowing down the metric, using Cheeger and Colding's theory about limit spaces of Gromov-Hausdorff convergence, combining with the Gaussian upper bound of heat kernel on limit spaces, we succeed in reducing the limit behavior of the heat kernel on manifold to the values of heat kernels on tangent cones at infinity of manifold with renormalized m…
The goal of this paper is to study the action of the heat operator on the Heisenberg group H^d, and in particular to characterize Besov spaces of negative index on H^d in terms of the heat kernel. That characterization can be extended to positive indexes using Bernstein inequalities. As a corollary we obtain a proof of refined Sobolev inequalities in W^{s,p} spaces.
We study inequalities related to the heat kernel for the hypoelliptic sublaplacian on an H-type Lie group. Specifically, we obtain precise pointwise upper and lower bounds on the heat kernel function itself. We then apply these bounds to derive an estimate on the gradient of solutions of the heat equation, which is known to have various significant consequences including logarithmic Sobolev inequalities. We also present a computation of the heat kernel, and a discussion of the geometry of H-type groups including their geodesics and Carnot-Carathéodory distance functions.
In this article, we establish Gaussian decay for the Box_b-heat kernel on polynomial models in C^2. Our technique attains the exponential decay via a partial Fourier transform. On the transform side, the problem becomes finding quantitative smoothness estimates on a heat kernel associated to the weighted dbar-operator on L^2(C). The bounds are established with Duhamel's formula and careful estimation.
We apply the Davies method to prove that for any regular Dirichlet form on a metric measure space, an off-diagonal stable-type upper bound of the heat kernel is equivalent to the conjunction of the on-diagonal upper bound, a cutoff inequality on any two concentric balls, and the jump kernel upper bound, for any walk dimension. If in addition the jump kernel vanishes, that is, if the Dirichlet form is strongly local, we obtain sub-Gaussian upper bound. This gives a unified approach to obtaining heat kernel upper bounds for both the non-local and the local Dirichlet forms.
