General Relativity is not the definitive theory of Gravitation due to several shortcomings which are coming out both from theoretical and experimental viewpoints. At large scales (astrophysical and cosmological scales) the attempts to match it with the today observational data lead to invoke Dark Energy and Dark Matter as the bulk components of the cosmic fluid. Since no final evidence, at fundamental level, exists for such ingredients, it is clear that General Relativity presents shortcomings at infrared scales. On the other hand, the attempts to formulate theories more general than the Einstein one give rise to mathematical difficulties that need workarounds which, in turn, generate problems from the interpretative viewpoint. We present here a completely new approach to the mathematical objects in terms of which a theory of Gravitation may be written in a first-order `a la Palatini formalism, and introduce the concept of Dark Metric which could completely bypass the introduction of disturbing concepts as Dark Energy and Dark Matter.
The dynamics of the dust-shell model of universe is exactly solved for the modified Schwarzschild solution. This solution is used to derive the cosmology corresponding to the modified gravity.
We present a brief overview of the stability analysis of the Einstein static universe in various modified theories of gravity, like f(R) gravity, Gauss-Bonnet or f(G) gravity, and Horava-Lifshitz gravity.
In this work, we consider an emergent universe in generalized gravity theories like the chameleon, f(R) and f(T) gravities. We reconstruct the potential of the chameleon field under the emergent scenario of the universe and observe its increasing nature with the evolution of the universe. We reveal that in the emergent universe scenario, the equation-of-state parameter behaves like quintessence in the case of f(R) gravity and like phantom in the case of f(T) gravity.
In this paper, we investigate the validity of the generalized second law of thermodynamics of the universe bounded by the event horizon. Here we consider homogeneous and isotropic model of the universe filled with perfect fluid in one case and in another case holographic model of the universe has been considered. In the third case the matter in the universe is taken in the form of non-interacting two fluid system as holographic dark energy and dust. Here we study the above cases in the Modified gravity, f(R) gravity.
It is discussed a truncation of the kinematical Hilbert space of Loop Quantum Gravity, which describes the dynamical system associated with an inhomogeneous cosmological model.
For certain models, the energy of the universe which includes the energy of both the matter and the gravitational fields is obtained by using the quasilocal energy-momentum in teleparallel gravity. It is shown that in the case of the Bianchi type I and II universes, not only the total energy but also the quasilocal energy-momentum for any region vanishes independently of the three dimensionless coupling constants of teleparallel gravity.
It is argued that the solution space of the equation determining the class of $f(R)$ theories which admit an Einstein static universe should be broadened by including the algebraic roots.
Recently, a field theoretic model for a UV complete theory of gravity has been proposed by Horava. This theory is a non-relativistic renormalizable gravity theory which coincides with Einstein's general relativity at large distances. Subsequently Lü et al have formulated the modified Friedmann equations and have presented a solution in vacuum. In the present work, we rewrite the modified FRW equations in the form of usual FRW equations in Einstein gravity and consequences has been analyzed. Also the thermodynamics of the FRW universe has been studied.

In the present work, focusing on one of the most popular problems in modern gravitation theories, we consider generalized Lanndau-Liftshitz energy-momentum relation to calculate energy distribution of the Bianchi-Type VI spacetime in $f(R)$ gravity. Additionally, the results are specified by using some well-known $f(R)$-gravity models.
We investigate the late time acceleration of the universe in the context of the Stephani model. This solution generalizes those of Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) in such a way that the spatial curvature is a function of of time. We show that the inhomogeneity of the models can lead to an accelerated evolution of the universe that is analogous to that obtained with FLRW models through a cosmological constant or any exotic component for matter.
The present work is devoted to investigate the Noether symmetries of the locally rotationally symmetric Bianchi type I space time in $f(T,B)$ gravity theory which depends on the torsion scalar $T$ and the boundary term $B$. In this theory, we consider some particular models and investigate their Noether symmetry generators. Besides, we get exact cosmological solutions of the considering models including the matter dominant universe using the Noether symmetry technique. The obtained results are coincide with the accelerated expansion behaviour of the universe.
The retarded gravitation produced by the matter and energy content of the observable universe is formulated and shown how this cosmological gravity gives rise to inertial forces in accelerated frames of reference. The model is developed for spatially flat Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universes. The retarded potential of cosmological gravity is determined first in fundamental frames of reference, in Einstein-de Sitter (ES)and in LambdaCDM models. Despite the expansion, the observable universe gives rise to a static, retarded gravitational potential equal to c2 in ES universe, while gravity i…
The teleparallel versions of the Einstein and the Landau-Lifshitz energy-momentum complexes of the gravitational field are obtained. By using these complexes, the total energy of the universe, which includes the energy of both the matter and the gravitational fields, is then obtained. It is shown that the total energy vanishes independently of both the curvature parameter and the three dimensionless coupling constants of teleparallel gravity.
We consider gravity theories in $4+N$ dimensions which are governed by the Lagrangian written as an extended Gauss-Bonnet density. We can find a naturally generalized Einstein gravity where the maximal symmetric compactification leads to vanishing four-dimensional cosmological constant in the static limit. A later stage in the generalized Kaluza-Klein cosmology is also examined.

We study the stability of Einstein static Universe, with FLRW metric, by considering linear homogeneous perturbations in the kinetic coupled gravity. By taking linear homogeneous perturbations, we find that the stability of Einstein static Universe, in the kinetic coupled gravity with quadratic scalar field potential, for closed ($K=1$) isotropic and homogeneous FLRW Universe depends on the coupling parameters $κ$ and $\varepsilon$. Specifically, for $κ=L_P^2$ and $\varepsilon=1$ we find that the stability condition imposes the inequality $a_0>\sqrt{3}L_P$ on the initial size $a_0$ of the clos…
This paper investigates the existence and stability of Einstein universe in the context of $f(R,T,Q)$ gravity, where $Q=R_{μν}T^{μν}$. Considering linear homogeneous perturbations around scale factor and energy density, we formulate static as well as perturbed field equations. We parameterize the stability regions corresponding to conserved as well as non-conserved energy-momentum tensor using linear equation of state parameter for particular models of this gravity. The graphical analysis concludes that for a suitable choice of parameters, the stable regions of the Einstein universe are obtain…
We investigate the conservation law of energy-momentum in teleparallel gravity by using general Noether theorem. The energy-momentum current has also superpotential and is therefore identically conserved. The total energy-momentum, which includes the contributions of both matter and gravitational fields, is given by the integral of scalar densities over a three-dimensional spacelike hypersurface. As an example, the universe in teleparallel gravity is investigated. It is shown that the total energy-momentum vanishes independently of both the curvature parameter and the three dimensionless coupl…
Recently, Horava proposed a power counting renormalizable theory for (3+1)-dimensional quantum gravity, which reduces to Einstein gravity with a non-vanishing cosmological constant in IR, but possesses improved UV behaviors. In this work, we analyze the stability of the Einstein static universe by considering linear homogeneous perturbations in the context of an IR modification of Horava gravity, which implies a `soft' breaking of the `detailed balance' condition. The stability regions of the Einstein static universe are parameterized by the linear equation of state parameter w=p/ρand the para…
We investigate stability of the Einstein static universe against the scalar, vector and tensor perturbations in the context of induced matter brane gravity. It is shown that in the framework of this model, the Einstein static universe has a positive spatial curvature. In contrast to the classical general relativity, it is found that a stable Einstein static universe against the scalar perturbations does exist provided that the variation of time dependent geometrical equation of state parameter is proportional to the minus of the variation of the scale factor, $δω_{g}(t)=-Cδa(t)$. We obtain neu…
This paper studies the cosmology of accelerating expansion of the universe in modified teleparallel gravity theory. We discuss the cosmology of $f(T,B)$ gravity theory and its implication to the new general form of the equation of state parameter $w_{TB}$ for explaining the late-time accelerating expansion of the universe without the need for the cosmological constant scenario. We examine the numerical value of $w_{TB}$ in different paradigmatic $f(T,B)$ gravity models. In those models, the numerical result of $w_{TB}$ is favored with observations in the presence of the torsion scalar T associ…
In Loop Quantum Gravity mathematically rigorous models of full quantum gravity were proposed. In this paper we study a cosmological sector of one of the models describing quantum gravity with positive cosmological constant coupled to massless scalar field. In our previous research we introduced a method to reduce the model to homogeneous-isotropic sector at the quantum level. In this paper we propose a method to restrict to the spatially flat sector. After this restriction the number of degrees of freedom gets substantially reduced. This allows us to make numerical calculations. Remarkably, th…
The present study is motivated by the study of reference [1], where the generalized second law of thermodynamics has been investigated for a flat FRW universe for two viable models of $f(T)$ gravity. In the present work, we have considered a non-flat universe and accordingly studied the behaviors of equation of state parameter and deceleration parameter. Subsequently, using the first law of thermodynamics we derived the expressions for the time derivative of the total entropy of a universe enveloped by apparent horizon. In the next phase, with the choice of scale factor pertaining to an emerge…
This paper explores stability of the Einstein universe against linear homogeneous perturbations in the background of $f(\mathcal{G},T)$ gravity. We construct static as well as perturbed field equations and investigate stability regions for the specific forms of generic function $f(\mathcal{G},T)$ corresponding to conserved as well as non-conserved energy-momentum tensor. We use the equation of state parameter to parameterize the stability regions. The graphical analysis shows that the suitable choice of parameters lead to stable regions of the Einstein universe.
The $f(R)$ gravity models formulated in Einstein conformal frame are equivalent to Einstein gravity together with a minimally coupled scalar field. The scalar field couples with the matter sector and the coupling term is given by the conformal factor. We apply the holographic principle to such an interacting model in spatially flat and curved universes. We show that the model leads to a constant ratio of energy densities of dark matter to dark energy in a spatially flat universe. In a spatially curved universe, the ratio is not a constant and the evolution seems to be model-dependent. However,…
In the present work we revisit a model consisting of a scalar field with a quartic self-interaction potential non-minimally (conformally) coupled to gravity [1]. When the scalar field vacuum is in a broken symmetry state, an effective gravitational constant emerges which, in certain regimes, can lead to gravitational repulsive effects when only ordinary radiation is coupled to gravity. In this case, a bouncing universe is shown to be the only cosmological solution admissible by the field equations when the scalar field is in such a broken symmetry state.
Modeling of matter bounce in $f(R,T)$ gravity has been presented with no violation of the null energy condition. Only a closed universe with negative pressure is allowed in good agreement with some recent observations which favor a universe with positive curvature. Our results agree with some recent works in which a combination of positive curvature and vacuum energy leads to non-singular bounces with no violation of the null energy condition. The stability of the model has been discussed. The cosmographic parameters are developed for the derived model to explain the accelerated expansion of t…
Present work deals with the two fluid Bianchi Type-V cosmological models consisting of matter and radiating source in the $f(R, T)$ theory of gravity studied by Harko et al. (2011). In this paper, we developed a new idea about $f(R, T)$ gravity with the help of two fluids: one fluid is matter field modeling material content of the Universe and other fluid is radiation field modeling the CMB. We have determined the solution of the two fluid gravitational field equations with the systematic structure in $f(R, T)$ gravity. Here we have deliberated four types of universe such as dust universe, rad…
We study UV-finite theory of induced gravity. We use scalar fields, Dirac fields and vector fields as matter fields whose one-loop effects induce the gravitational action. To obtain the mass spectrum which satisfies the UV-finiteness condition, we use a graph-based construction of mass matrices. The existence of a self-consistent static solution for an Einstein universe is shown in the presence of degenerate fermion.
In this paper we obtain the linear Weyl gravity in de Sitter background. Its linear form in five-dimensional ambient space notation has also been obtained. From the group theoretical point of view, we show that this conformal invariant fourth order theory in its linear form does not transform as an unitary irreducible representation of the de Sitter group.
In this paper, we showed that gravity might have been repulsive in the first moments of the Universe! To find this, we used quantization of the anti-commuting space and derived a gravitational equation in the limit $T \gg T_p$, which shows interesting behaviors. We saw that gravity is repulsive in the distances less than $\mathcal{R} = 4.37 \times 10^{-32} \times \sqrt{M}$, where $M$ is the mass of the object which gives rise to the gravitational field. Also, we calculated an acceleration of the order $\simeq - 3.494 \times 10^{52}$ for the first moment of the Universe ($r = 0$), where the tem…
We describe the quantum flat universe in QRLG in terms of states based at cuboidal graphs with six-valent nodes. We investigate the action of the scalar constraint operator at each node and we construct proper semiclassical states. This allows us to discuss the semiclassical effective dynamics of the quantum universe, which resembles that of LQC. In particular, the regulator is identified with the third root of the inverse number of nodes within each homogeneous patch, while inverse-volume corrections are enhanced.
Hybrid metric-Palatini gravity is a recent and novel approach to modified theories of gravity, which consists of adding to the metric Einstein-Hilbert Lagrangian an f(R) term constructed a la Palatini. It was shown that the theory passes local tests even if the scalar field is very light, and thus implies the existence of a long-range scalar field, which is able to modify the dynamics in galactic and cosmological scales, but leaves the Solar System unaffected. In this work, motivated by the possibility that the Universe may have started out in an asymptotically Einstein static state in the inf…
In de Sitter ambient space formalism, the linear gravity can be written in terms of a minimally coupled scalar field and a polarization tensor. In this formalism, the massless minimally coupled scalar field can be quantized on Bunch-Davies vacuum state, that preserves the de Sitter invariance, the analyticity and removes the infrared divergence. The de Sitter quantum linear gravity is then constructed on Bunch-Davies vacuum state, which is also covariant, analytic and free of any infrared divergences. We will conclude that the unique Bunch-Davies vacuum state can be used adequately to construc…

The z=3 deformed Horava-Lifshitz gravity with coupling constants ωand εleads to a nonrelativistic "mixmaster" cosmological model. The potential of theory is given by the sum of IR and UV potentials in the ADM Hamiltonian formalism. It turns out that the presence of the UV-potential cannot suppress chaotic behaviors existing in the IR-potential, which comes from curvature anisotropy.
We investigate stability of the Einstein static solution against homogeneous scalar, vector and tensor perturbations in the context of Rastall theory of gravity. We show that this solution in the presence of perfect fluid and vacuum energy originating from conformally-invariant fields is stable. Using the fix point method and taking linear homogeneous perturbations, we find that the scale factor of Einstein static universe for closed deformed isotropic and homogeneous FLRW universe depends on the coupling parameter $λ$ between the energy-momentum tensor and the gradient of Ricci scalar. Thus, …
We review recent results on the Cauchy-Kowalevsky structure of theories with higher derivatives in vacuum. We prove genericity of regularity of solutions under the assumption of analyticity. Our approach is framed in the general context of formal series expansions of the metric around a regular point.
The emergent mechanism provides a possible way to resolve the big bang singularity problem by assuming that our universe originates from the Einstein static (ES) state. Thus, the existence of a stable ES solution becomes a very crucial prerequisite for the emergent scenario. In this paper, we study the stability of an ES universe in gravity theory with a non-minimal coupling between the kinetic term of a scalar field and the Einstein tensor. We find that the ES solution is stable under both scalar and tensor perturbations when the model parameters satisfy certain conditions, which indicates th…
The bumblebee field coupled with gravity is considered. This gravitational theory exhibits spontaneous breaking of Lorentz symmetry. The Gödel-type universe is introduced and then the causality and its violation are studied. Causal and non-causal Gödel-type solutions are obtained for different content of matter. In addition, when the coupling constant, which controls the interaction between the bumblebee field and the gravitational field, is zero the bumblebee potential may be associated with the value of the cosmological constant of the general relativity. Furthermore, the case with the non-z…
Lattice universes are spatially closed space-times of spherical topology in the large, containing masses or black holes arranged in the symmetry of a regular polygon or polytope. Exact solutions for such spacetimes are found in 2+1 dimensions for Einstein gravity with a non-positive cosmological constant. By means of a mapping that preserves the essential nature of geodesics we establish analogies between the flat and the negative curvature cases. This map also allows treatment of point particles and black holes on a similar footing.

We investigate the impact of the generalized uncertainty principle proposed by some approaches to quantum gravity such as string theory and doubly special relativity on the cosmology. Using generalized Poisson brackets, we obtain the modified Friedmann and Raychaudhuri equations and suggest a dynamical dark energy to explain the late time acceleration of the Universe. After considering the interaction between dark matter and dark energy, originated from the minimal length, we obtain the effective cosmological parameters and equation of state parameter for dark matter and dark energy. Finally, …

In this paper we describe the matter-free toroidal spacetime in 't Hooft's polygon approach to 2+1-dimensional gravity (i.e. we consider the case without any particles present). Contrary to earlier results in the literature we find that it is not possible to describe the torus by just one polygon but we need at least two polygons. We also show that the constraint algebra of the polygons closes.
In an accelerated expanding universe, one can expect the existence of an event horizon. It may be interesting to study the thermodynamics of the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe at the event horizon. Considering the usual Hawking temperature, the first law of thermodynamics does not hold on the event horizon. To satisfy the first law of thermodynamics, it is necessary to redefine Hawking temperature. In this paper, using the redefinition of Hawking temperature and applying the first law of thermodynamics on the event horizon, the Friedmann equations are obtained in f(R) gravity from t…
We explore Noether gauge symmetries of FRW and Bianchi I universe models for perfect fluid in scalar-tensor gravity with extra term $R^{-1}$ as curvature correction. Noether symmetry approach can be used to fix the form of coupling function $ω(ϕ)$ and the field potential $V(ϕ)$. It is shown that for both models, the Noether symmetries, the gauge function as well as the conserved quantity, i.e., the integral of motion exist for the respective point like Lagrangians. We determine the form of coupling function as well as the field potential in each case. Finally, we investigate solutions through …
The present work reports a reconstruction scheme for f(T) gravity based on QCD ghost dark energy. Two models of f(T) have been generated and the pressure and density contributions due to torsion have been reconstructed. Two realistic models have been obtained and the effective equations of state have been studied. Also, the squared speed of sound has been studied to examine the stability of the models.
