In an earlier work joint with X. X. Chen and G. Tian, we introduced the weak Kähler-Ricci flow for various geometric motivations. In the current work, we take further consideration on setting up the weak flow. Namely, the initial class is allowed to be no longer Kähler.
Let $M^n$ be a compact K$\ddot{a}$hler manifold with almost nonnegative Ricci curvature and nonzero first Betti number. We show that the holomorphic Euler number of $M^n$ vanishes, which gives a new obstruction for compact complex manifolds admitting K$\ddot{a}$hler metrics with almost nonnegative Ricci curvature. A crucial step in the proof is to show a vanishing theorem of Dolbeault-Morse-Novikov cohomology.
We develop a parabolic pluripotential theory on compact K{ä}hler manifolds, defining and studying weak solutions to degenerate parabolic complex Monge-Amp{è}re equations. We provide a parabolic analogue of the celebrated Bedford-Taylor theory and apply it to the study of the K{ä}hler-Ricci flow on varieties with log terminal singularities.
Let $(M^3,g_0)$ be a complete noncompact Riemannian 3-manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature and with injectivity radius bounded away from zero. Suppose that the scalar curvature $R(x)\to 0$ as $x\to \infty$. Then the Ricci flow with initial data $(M^3,g_0)$ has a long time solution. This extends a recent result of Ma and Zhu. We also have a higher dimensional version, and we reprove a K$\ddot{a}$hler analogy due to Chau, Tam and Yu.
For any complete noncompact K$\ddot{a}$hler manifold with nonnegative and bounded holomorphic bisectional curvature,we provide the necessary and sufficient condition for non-ancient solution to the Ricci flow in this paper.
We establish a stability result for elliptic and parabolic complex Monge-Amp{è}re equations on compact K{ä}hler manifolds, which applies in particular to the K{ä}hler-Ricci flow. Dedicated to Jean-Pierre Demailly on the occasion of his 60th birthday.
We study pluripotential complex Monge-Ampère flows in big cohomology classes on compact K{ä}hler manifolds. We use the Perron method, considering pluripotential subsolutions to the Cauchy problem. We prove that, under natural assumptions on the data, the upper envelope of all subsolutions is continuous in space and semi-concave in time, and provides a unique pluripotential solution with such regularity. We apply this theory to study pluripotential K{ä}hler-Ricci flows on compact K{ä}hler manifolds of general type as well as on stable varieties.
We show that a rescale limit at any degenerate singularity of Ricci flow in dimension 3 is a steady gradient soliton. In particular, we give a geometric description of type I and type II singularities.
In this paper, we study a three-dimensional Ricci-degenerate Riemannian manifold $(M^3,g)$ that admits a smooth nonzero solution $f$ to the equation \begin{align} \label{a1a} \nabla df=ψRc+ϕg, \end{align} where $ψ,ϕ$ are given smooth functions of $f$, $Rc$ is the Ricci tensor of $g$. Spaces of this type include various interesting classes, namely gradient Ricci solitons, $m$-quasi Einstein metrics, (vacuum) static spaces, $V$-static spaces, and critical point metrics. The $m$-quasi Einstein metrics and vacuum static spaces were previously studied in \cite{JJ,JEK}, respectively. In this paper, …
In this article we give a classification of three dimensional m-quasi Einstein manifolds with two distinct Ricci-eigen values. Our study provides explicit description of local and complete metrics and potential functions. We also describe the associated warped product Einstein manifolds in detail. For the proof we present a Codazzi tensor on any three dimensional $m$-quasi Einstein manifold and use geometric properties of the tensor which help to analyze the m-quasi Einstein equation effectively. A technical advance over preceding studies is made by resolving the case when the gradient $\nabla…
We investigate the combinatorial Ricci flow on a surface of nonpositive Euler characteristic when the necessary and sufficient condition for the convergence of the combinatorial Ricci flow is not valid. This observation addresses one of questions raised by B. Chow and F. Luo.
In previous work, Angenent, Isenberg, and Knopf created type-II Ricci flow neckpinch singularities. In this paper we construct solutions to Ricci flow whose initial data is the singular metric resulting from these singularities. We show in particular that the curvature decreases at the same rate at which it blew up. This is the first example of Ricci flow starting from a type-II singularity.
In earlier work, we derived formal matched asymptotic profiles for families of Ricci flow solutions developing Type-II degenerate neckpinches. In the present work, we prove that there do exist Ricci flow solutions that develop singularities modeled on each such profile. In particular, we show that for each positive integer $k\geq3$, there exist compact solutions in all dimensions $m\geq3$ that become singular at the rate (T-t)^{-2+2/k}$.
Gu and Zhu have shown that Type-II Ricci flow singularities develop from nongeneric rotationally symmetric Riemannian metrics on $S^m$, for all $m\geq 3$. In this paper, we describe and provide plausibility arguments for a detailed asymptotic profile and rate of curvature blow-up that we predict such solutions exhibit.
We study topological structures of the sets $(0,1/2)^3 \cap Ω$ and $(0,1/2)^3 \setminus Ω$, where~$Ω$ is one special algebraic surface defined by a symmetric polynomial in variables $a_1,a_2,a_3$ of degree~$12$. These problems arise in studying of general properties of degenerate singular points of dynamical systems obtained from the normalized Ricci flow on generalized Wallach spaces. Our main goal is to prove the connectedness of $(0,1/2)^3 \cap Ω$ and to determine the number of connected components of $(0,1/2)^3 \setminus Ω$. Key words and phrases: Riemannian metric, generalized Wallach spa…
In earlier work, carrying out numerical simulations of the Ricci flow of families of rotationally symmetric geometries on $S3$, we have found strong support for the contention that (at least in the rotationally symmetric case) the Ricci flow for a ``critical'' initial geometry - one which is at the transition point between initial geometries (on $S^3$) whose volume-normalized Ricci flows develop a singular neck pinch, and other initial geometries whose volume normalized Ricci flows converge to a round sphere - evolves into a ``degenerate neck pinch.'' That is, we have seen in this earlier work…
Locally, a screen integrable globally null manifold $M$ splits through a Riemannian leaf $M'$ of its screen distribution and a null curve $\mathcal{C}$ tangent to its radical distribution. The leaf $M'$ carries a lot of geometric information about $M$ and, in fact, forms a basis for the study of expanding and non-expanding horizons in black hole theory. In the present paper, we introduce a degenerate Ricci-type flow in $M'$ via the intrinsic Ricci tensor of $M$. Several new gradient estimates regarding the flow are proved.
We produce complete bounded curvature solutions to Kähler-Ricci flow with existence time estimates, assuming only that the initial data is a smooth \K metric uniformly equivalent to another complete bounded curvature \K metric. We obtain related flow results for non-smooth as well as degenerate initial conditions. We also obtain a stability result for complex space forms under the flow.
We study the behaviour of families of Ricci-flat Kahler metrics on a projective Calabi-Yau manifold when the Kahler classes degenerate to the boundary of the ample cone. We prove that if the limit class is big and nef the Ricci-flat metrics converge smoothly on compact sets outside a subvariety to a limit incomplete Ricci-flat metric. The limit can also be understood from algebraic geometry.
In this paper, we investigate the behavior of the normalized Ricci flow on asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds. We show that the normalized Ricci flow exists globally and converges to an Einstein metric when starting from a non-degenerate and sufficiently Ricci pinched metric. More importantly we use maximum principles to establish the regularity of conformal compactness along the normalized Ricci flow including that of the limit metric at time infinity. Therefore we are able to recover the existence results in \cite{GL} \cite{Lee} \cite{Bi} of conformally compact Einstein metrics with conform…
We study the convergence of a modified Kaeher-Ricci flow defined by Zhou Zhang. We show that the flow converges to a singular metric when the limit class is degenerate. This proves a conjecture of Zhang.
We study the problem of convergence of the normalized Ricci flow evolving on a compact manifold $Ω$ without boundary. In \cite{KS10, KS15} we derived, via PDE techniques, global-in-time existence of the classical solution and pre-compactness of the orbit. In this work we show its convergence to steady-states, using a gradient inequality of Łojasiewicz type. We have thus an alternative proof of \cite{ha}, but for general manifold $Ω$ and not only for unit sphere. As a byproduct of that approach we also derive the rate of convergence according to this steady-sate being either degenerate or non-d…
We study the degenerations of asymptotically conical Ricci-flat Kähler metrics as the Kähler class degenerates to a semi-positive class. We show that under appropriate assumptions, the Ricci-flat Kähler metrics converge to a incomplete smooth Ricci-flat Kähler metric away from a compact subvariety. As a consequence, we construct singular Calabi-Yau metrics with asymptotically conical behaviour at infinity on certain quasi-projective varieties and we show that the metric geometry of these singular metrics are homeomorphic to the topology of the singular variety. Finally, we will apply our resul…
Studying the (long-term) behavior of the Kähler-Ricci flow on mildly singular varieties, one is naturally lead to study weak solutions of degenerate parabolic complex Monge-Ampére equations. The purpose of this article, the second of a series on this subject, is to develop a viscosity theory for degenerate complex Monge-Ampére flows on compact Kähler manifolds. Our general theory allows in particular to define and study the (normalized) Kähler-Ricci flow on varieties with canonical singularities, generalizing results of Song and Tian.
We improve the understanding of both finite time and infinite time singularities of the modified Kähler-Ricci flow as initiated by the second author of this paper in [26]. This is done by relating the modified Kähler-Ricci flow with the recent studies on the classic Kähler-Ricci flow and the degenerate complex Monge-Ampère equation.
We prove compactification theorems for some complete Kähler manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. Among other things, we prove that a complete noncompact Kähler Ricci flat manifold with maximal volume growth and quadratic curvature decay is a crepant resolution of a normal affine algebraic variety. Furthermore, such affine variety degenerates in two steps to the unique metric tangent cone at infinity.
In this paper, we consider the $V$-soliton equation which is a degenerate fully nonlinear equation introduced by La Nave and Tian in their work on Kähler-Ricci flow on symplectic quotients. One can apply the interpretation to study finite time singularities of the Kähler-Ricci flow. As in the case of Kähler-Einstein metrics, we can also reduce the $V$-soliton equation to a scalar equation on Kähler potentials, which is of Monge-Ampère type. We formulate some preliminary estimates for such a scalar equation on a compact Kähler manifold $M$.
Studying the behavior of the Kähler-Ricci flow on mildly singular varieties, one is naturally lead to study weak solutions of degenerate parabolic complex Monge-Ampère equations. In this article, the third of a series on this subject, we study the long term behavior of the normalized Kähler-Ricci flow on mildly singular varieties of positive Kodaira dimension, generalizing results of Song and Tian who dealt with smooth minimal models.
We study the collapsing behavior of the Kaehler-Ricci flow on a compact Kaehler manifold X admitting a holomorphic submersion X -> S coming from its canonical class, where S is a Kaehler manifold with dim S < dim X. We show that the flow metric degenerates at exactly the rate of e^{-t} as predicted by the cohomology information, and so the fibers collapse at the optimal rate diameter ~ e^{-t/2}. Consequently, it leads to some analytic and geometric extensions to the regular case of Song-Tian's works on elliptic and Calabi-Yau fibrations. Its applicability to general Calabi-Yau fibrations with …
We generalize Hamilton's matrix Li-Yau-type Harnack estimate for the Ricci flow by considering the space of all LYH (Li-Yau-Hamilton) quadratics that arise as curvature tensors of space-time connections satisfying the Ricci flow with respect to the natural space-time degenerate metric. As a special case, we employ scaling arguments to derive a linear-type matrix LYH estimate. The new LYH quadratics obtained in this way are associated to the system of the Ricci flow coupled to a 1-form and a 2-form evolving by heat-type equations. In the case of a Kaehler solution, a special case of our linear-…
In this article, we study the Ricci flow neckpinch in the context of metric measure spaces. We introduce the notion of a Ricci flow metric measure spacetime and of a weak (refined) super Ricci flow associated to convex cost functions (cost functions which are increasing convex functions of the distance function). Our definition of a weak super Ricci flow is based on the coupled contraction property for suitably defined diffusions on maximal diffusion components. In our main theorem, we show that if a non-degenerate spherical neckpinch can be continued beyond the singular time by a smooth forwa…
We prove uniform sup-norm estimates for the Monge-Ampere equation with respect to a family of Kahler metrics which degenerate towards a pull-back of a metric from a lower dimensional manifold. This is then used to show the existence of generalized Kahler-Einstein metrics as the limits of the Kahler-Ricci flow for some holomorphic fibrations (in the spirit of Song and Tian "The Kahler-Ricci flow on surfaces of positive Kodaira dimension", arXiv:math/0602150).
