We construct a direct natural bijection between descending plane partitions without any special part and permutations. The directness is in the sense that the bijection avoids any reference to nonintersecting lattice paths. The advantage of the bijection is that it provides an interpretation for the seemingly long list of conditions needed to define descending plane partitions. Unfortunately, the bijection does not relate the number of parts of the descending plane partition with the number of inversions of the permutation as one might have expected from the conjecture of Mills, Robbins and Rumsey, although there is a simple expression for the number of inversions of a permutation in terms of the corresponding descending plane partition.
There are several combinatorial objects that are known to be in bijection to the spanning trees of a graph G. These objects include G-parking functions, critical configurations of G, and descending traversals of G. In this paper, we extend the bijections to generalizations of all three objects.
We present a direct bijection between descending plane partitions with no special parts and permutation matrices. We investigate permutations in terms of their cycle structure and descent set. To do this, we generalize the classical bijection of Gessel and Reutenauer to deal with permutations that have some ascending and some descending blocks. We then provide the first bijective proofs of some known results. We also solve some problems posed in [3] by Eriksen, Freij, and Wastlund, who study derangements that descend in blocks of prescribed lengths.

A permutation is (1-23-4)-avoiding if it contains no four entries, increasing left to right, with the middle two adjacent in the permutation. Here we give a 2-variable recurrence for the number of such permutations, improving on the previously known 4-variable recurrence. At the heart of the proof is a bijection from (1-23-4)-avoiding permutations to increasing ordered trees whose leaves, taken in preorder, are also increasing.
A bijection between $(31245,32145,31254,32154)$-avoiding permutations and $(31425,32415,31524,32514)$-avoiding permutations is constructed, which preserves five classical set-valued statistics. Combining with two codings of permutations due respectively to Baril--Vajnovszki and Martinez--Savage proves an enumerative conjecture posed by Gao and Kitaev. Moreover, the generating function for the common counting sequence is proved to be algebraic.

We introduce a new concept of permutation avoidance pattern called hatted pattern, which is a natural generalization of the barred pattern. We show the growth rate of the class of permutations avoiding a hatted pattern in comparison to barred pattern. We prove that Dyck paths with no peak at height $p$, Dyck paths with no $ud... du$ and Motzkin paths are counted by hatted pattern avoiding permutations in $\s_n(132)$ by showing explicit bijections. Additionally, we give bijective proofs of two simple recurrences for the number of non-derangements.
The combined work of Bousquet-Mélou, Claesson, Dukes, Jelínek, Kitaev, Kubitzke and Parviainen has resulted in non-trivial bijections among ascent sequences, (2+2)-free posets, upper-triangular integer matrices, and pattern-avoiding permutations. To probe the finer behavior of these bijections, we study two types of restrictions on ascent sequences. We show that Han's bijection when restricted to permutations can be carried out in terms of the cyclic major code and the cyclic inversion code. In other words, it maps a permutation $π$ with a cyclic major code $(s_1, s_2, ..., s_n)$ to a permutation $σ$ with a cyclic inversion code $(s_1,s_2, ..., s_n)$. We also show that the fixed points of Han's map can be characterized by the strong fixed points of Foata's second fundamental transformation. The notion of strong fixed points is related to partial Foata maps introduced by Björner and Wachs.
The large Schroder numbers are known to count several classes of permutations avoiding two 4-letter patterns. Here we show they count another family of permutations, those whose left to right minima decomposition, when reversed, is 321-avoiding. We give another bijective proof of a result of Corteel and Nadeau. We find a generating function related to unrestricted columns of permutation tableaux. As a consequence, we obtain a sign-imbalance formula for permutation tableaux. We extend the first bijection of Corteel and Nadeau between permutations and permutation tableaux to type $B$ objects. Using this type $B$ bijection, we generalize a result of Lam and Williams. We prove that the bijection of Corteel and Nadeau and our type $B$ bijection can be expressed as zigzag maps on the alternative representation.
There are (at least) three bijections from Dyck paths to 321-avoiding permutations in the literature, due to Billey-Jockusch-Stanley, Krattenthaler, and Mansour-Deng-Du. How different are they? The Euler number $E_n$ (resp. Entringer number $E_{n,k}$) enumerates the alternating (down-up) permutations of $\{1,\dots,n\}$ (resp. starting with $k$). The Springer number $S_n$ (resp. Arnold number $S_{n,k}$) enumerates the type $B$ alternating permutations (resp. starting with $k$). In this paper, using bijections we first derive the counterparts in {\em André permutations} and {\em Simsun permutations} for the Entringer numbers $(E_{n,k})$, and then the counterparts in {\em signed André permutations} and {\em type $B$ increasing 1-2 trees} for the Arnold numbers $(S_{n,k})$.
There is a natural bijection between permutations obtainable using a stack (those avoiding the pattern 312) and permutations obtainable using a queue (those avoiding 321). This bijection is equivalent to one described by Simion and Schmidt in 1985. We argue that this bijection might well have been found back in 1968 by readers of volume 1 of Knuth's *The Art of Computer Programming*, if Knuth had not assigned difficulty ratings to his exercises.

Edelman and Greene constructed a correspondence between reduced words of the reverse permutation and standard Young tableaux. We prove that for any reduced word the shape of the region of the insertion tableau containing the smallest possible entries evolves exactly as the upper-left component of the permutation's (Rothe) diagram. Properties of the Edelman-Greene bijection restricted to 132-avoiding and 2143-avoiding permutations are presented. We also consider the Edelman-Greene bijection applied to non-reduced words.
In this paper we introduce and study a class of tableaux which we call permutation tableaux; these tableaux are naturally in bijection with permutations, and they are a distinguished subset of the Le-diagrams of Alex Postnikov. We construct weight-preserving bijections between column strict shifted plane partitions with one row and alternating sign trapezoids with exactly one column in the left half that sums to $1$. Amongst other things, they relate the number of $-1$s in the alternating sign trapezoids to certain elements in the column strict shifted plane partitions that generalise the notion of special parts in descending plane partitions. The advantage of these bijections is that they include configurations with $-1$s, which is a feature that many of the bijections in the realm of alternating sign arrays lack.

In this thesis, we introduced and carried out a combinatorial study of permutations that avoid one or two patterns of length 3 according to the statistic number of crossings. Our proof is based on Aval, Boussicault and Nadeau's bijection between tree-like tableaux and permutation tableaux, and Corteel and Nadeau's bijection between permutation tableaux and permutations. In this paper we introduce a new bijection from the set of Dyck paths to itself. This bijection has the property that it maps statistics that appeared recently in the study of pattern-avoiding permutations into classical statistics on Dyck paths, whose distribution is easy to obtain. We also present a generalization of the bijection, as well as several applications of it to enumeration problems of statistics in restricted permutations.
The subject of pattern avoiding permutations has its roots in computer science, namely in the problem of sorting a permutation through a stack. Pipe dreams and bumpless pipe dreams for vexillary permutations are each known to be in bijection with certain semistandard tableaux via maps due to Lenart and Weigandt, respectively. Recently, Gao and Huang have defined a bijection between the former two sets. In this note we show for vexillary permutations that the Gao-Huang bijection preserves the associated tableaux, giving a new proof of Lenart's result. Our methods extend to give a recording tableau for any bumpless pipe dream.
We classify all recurrent configurations of the Abelian sandpile model (ASM) on Ferrers graphs. The classification is in terms of decorations of EW-tableaux, which undecorated are in bijection with the minimal recurrent configurations. The diagram of a 132-avoiding permutation can easily be characterized: it is simply the diagram of a partition. Based on this fact, we present a new bijection between 132-avoiding and 321-avoiding permutations. We will show that this bijection translates the correspondences between these permutations and Dyck paths given by Krattenthaler and by Billey-Jockusch-Stanley, respectively, to each other. Moreover, the diagram approach yields simple proofs for some enumerative results concerning forbidden patterns in 132-avoiding permutations.
Three-dimensional Catalan numbers are a variant of the classical (bidimensional) Catalan numbers, that count, among other interesting objects, the standard Young tableaux of shape (n,n,n). In this paper, we present a structural bijection between two three-dimensional Catalan objects: 1234-avoiding up-down permutations, and a class of weighted Dyck paths.

We prove a conjecture of J.-C. Novelli, J.-Y. Thibon, and L. K. Williams (2010) about an equivalence of two triples of statistics on permutations. To prove this conjecture, we construct a bijection through different combinatorial objects, starting with a Catalan based object related to the PASEP. As a byproduct of this research, we also provide a new co-sylvester class-preserving bijection on permutations.
