We consider disordered ladders of the transverse-field Ising model and study their critical properties and entanglement entropy for varying width, $w \le 20$, by numerical application of the strong disorder renormalization group method. We demonstrate that the critical properties of the ladders for any finite $w$ are controlled by the infinite disorder fixed point of the random chain and the correction to scaling exponents contain information about the two-dimensional model. We calculate sample dependent pseudo-critical points and study the shift of the mean values as well as scaling of the width of the distributions and show that both are characterized by the same exponent, $ν(2d)$. We also study scaling of the critical magnetization, investigate critical dynamical scaling as well as the behavior of the critical entanglement entropy. Analyzing the $w$-dependence of the results we have obtained accurate estimates for the critical exponents of the two-dimensional model: $ν(2d)=1.25(3)$, $x(2d)=0.996(10)$ and $ψ(2d)=0.51(2)$.
We simulate the entanglement dynamics in a critical random quantum Ising chain with generic perturbations using the time-evolving block decimation algorithm. Starting from a product state, we observe super-logarithmic growth of entanglement entropy with time. The numerical result is consistent with the analytical prediction of Vosk and Altman using a real-space renormalization group technique.
The critical behavior of the random transverse-field Ising model in finite dimensional lattices is governed by infinite disorder fixed points, several properties of which have already been calculated by the use of the strong disorder renormalization group (SDRG) method. Here we extend these studies and calculate the connected transverse-spin correlation function by a numerical implementation of the SDRG method in $d=1,2$ and $3$ dimensions. At the critical point an algebraic decay of the form $\sim r^{-η_t}$ is found, with a decay exponent being approximately $η_t \approx 2+2d$. In $d=1$ the r…
The transverse-field Ising models with random exchange interactions in finite dimensions are investigated by means of a real-space renormalization-group method. The scheme yields the exact values of the critical point and critical exponent nu in one dimension and some previous results in the case of random ferromagnetic interactions are reproduced in two and three dimensions. We apply the scheme to spin glasses in transverse fields in two and three dimensions, which have not been analyzed very extensively. The phase diagrams and the critical exponent nu are obtained and evidence for the existe…
Discrete quantum trajectories of systems under random unitary gates and projective measurements have been shown to feature transitions in the entanglement scaling that are not encoded in the density matrix. In this paper, we study the projective transverse field Ising model, a stochastic model with two noncommuting projective measurements and no unitary dynamics. We numerically demonstrate that their competition drives an entanglement transition between two distinct steady states that both exhibit area law entanglement, and introduce a classical but nonlocal model that captures the entanglemen…
The entanglement entropy of the random transverse-field Ising model is calculated by a numerical implementation of the asymptotically exact strong disorder renormalization group method in 2d, 3d and 4d hypercubic lattices for different shapes of the subregion. We find that the area law is always satisfied, but there are analytic corrections due to E-dimensional edges (1<=E<=d-2). More interesting is the contribution arising from corners, which is logarithmically divergent at the critical point and its prefactor in a given dimension is universal, i.e. independent of the form of disorder.
Quantifying entanglement of multiple subsystems is a challenging open problem in interacting quantum systems. Here, we focus on two subsystems of length $\ell$ separated by a distance $r=α\ell$ and quantify their entanglement negativity (${\cal E}$) and mutual information (${\cal I}$) in critical random Ising chains. Both the disorder averaged ${\cal E}$ and ${\cal I}$ are found to be scale-invariant and universal, i.e. independent of the form of disorder. We find a constant ${\cal E}(α)$ and ${\cal I}(α)$ over any distances, using the asymptotically exact strong disorder renormalization group…
External monitoring of quantum many-body systems can give rise to a measurement-induced phase transition characterized by a change in behavior of the entanglement entropy from an area law to an unbounded growth. In this Letter, we show that this transition extends beyond bipartite correlations to multipartite entanglement. Using the quantum Fisher information, we investigate the entanglement dynamics of a continuously monitored quantum Ising chain. Multipartite entanglement exhibits the same phase boundaries observed for the entropy in the post-selected no-click trajectory. Instead, quantum ju…
Using the strong disorder renormalization group method we study numerically the critical behavior of the random transverse Ising model at a free surface, at a corner and at an edge in D=2, 3 and 4-dimensional lattices. The surface magnetization exponents are found to be: x_s=1.60(2), 2.65(15) and 3.7(1) in D=2, 3 and 4, respectively, which do not depend on the form of disorder. We have also studied critical magnetization profiles in slab, pyramid and wedge geometries with fixed-free boundary conditions and analyzed their scaling behavior.
Recently, Heim, Ronnow, Isakov and Troyer [Science 348 (2015) 215] have reported that Monte Carlo simulations for the Ising spin glass model on the square lattice in the physically relevant continuous-imaginary-time limit do not show superiority of quantum annealing (QA) using transverse field against classical annealing (CA). Although the QA schedule that they had used has been using conventionally, however the QA schedule mathematically has no guarantee that the used schedule is the best QA schedule for performance of optimization. We propose a new QA schedule for studying transverse-field-b…
We study the low-energy properties of the long-range random transverse-field Ising chain with ferromagnetic interactions decaying as a power alpha of the distance. Using variants of the strong-disorder renormalization group method, the critical behavior is found to be controlled by a strong-disorder fixed point with a finite dynamical exponent z_c=alpha. Approaching the critical point, the correlation length diverges exponentially. In the critical point, the magnetization shows an alpha-independent logarithmic finite-size scaling and the entanglement entropy satisfies the area law. These obser…
We propose a method to evaluate parameters in the Hamiltonian of the Ising chain under site-dependent transverse fields, with a proviso that we can control and measure one of the edge spins only. We evaluate the eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian and the time-evoultion operator exactly for a 3-spin chain, from which we obtain the expectation values of $σ_x$ of the first spin. The parameters are found from the peak positions of the Fourier transform of the expectation value. There are four assumptions in our method, which are mild enough to be satisfied in many physical systems.
We investigate the transverse field Ising model subject to a two-step periodic driving protocol and quasiperiodic modulation of the Ising couplings. Analytical results on the phase boundaries associated with Majorana edge modes and numerical results on the localization of single-particle excitations are presented. The implication of a region with fully localized domain-wall-like excitations in the parameter space is eigenstate order and exact spectral pairing of Floquet eigenstates, based on which we conclude the existence of time crystals. We also examine various correlation functions of the …
The Dyson hierarchical version of the quantum Ising chain with Long-Ranged power-law ferromagnetic couplings $J(r) \propto r^{-1-σ}$ and pure or random transverse fields is studied via real-space renormalization. For the pure case, the critical exponents are explicitly obtained as a function of the parameter $σ$, and are compared with previous results of other approaches. For the random case, the RG rules are numerically applied and the critical behaviors are compared with previous Strong Disorder Renormalization results.
We present a brief review on information processing, computing and inference via quantum fluctuation, and clarify the relationship between the probabilistic information processing and theory of quantum spin glasses through the analysis of the infinite-range model. We also argue several issues to be solved for the future direction in the research field.
A classical analogue of the entanglement entropy is calculated on the system boundary of the two-dimensional Edwards-Anderson model, where the nearest-neighbor interaction is stochastically chosen from +J and -J. The boundary spin distribution is obtained by means of the time-evolving block decimation (TEBD) method, where the random ensemble is created from the successive multiplications of position-dependent transfer matrices, whose width is up to N = 300. The random average of the entanglement entropy is calculated on the Nishimori line, and it is confirmed that the entanglement entropy show…
The heat conduction in an open transverse-field Ising chain is studied by using quantization in the Fock space of operators in the weak coupling regimes, i.e. the coupling is much smaller than the transverse field. The non-equilibrium steady state is obtained for large size systems coupled to Markovian baths at its ends. The ballistic transport is observed in the uniform chain and normal diffusion in the random-exchange chain. {In addition, the ballistic-diffusive transition is found at the intermediate disorder regime.} The thermal conductivity $κ$ is also calculated in the low and high tempe…
Dipolar Bose-Einstein condensates in an array of double-well potentials realize an effective transverse Ising model with peculiar inter-layer interactions, that may result under proper conditions in an anomalous first-order ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic phase transition, and nontrivial phases due to frustration. The considered setup as well allows the study of Kibble-Zurek defect formation, whose kink statistics follows that expected from the universality class of the mean-field transverse Ising model in 1D. Furthermore, random occupation of each layer of the stack leads to random effective …
We study the influence of Ohmic dissipation on the random transverse-field Ising chain by means of large-scale Monte-Carlo simulations. To this end, we first map the Hamiltonian onto a classical Ising model with long-range $1/τ^2$ interaction in the time-like direction. We then apply the highly efficient cluster algorithm proposed by Luijten and Blöte for system with long-range interactions. Our simulations show that Ohmic dissipation destroys the infinite-randomness quantum critical point of the dissipationless system. Instead, the quantum phase transition between the paramagnetic and ferroma…
It is proved that replica symmetry is not broken in the transverse and longitudinal random field Ising model. In this model, the variance of spin overlap of any component vanishes in any dimension almost everywhere in the coupling constant space in the infinite volume limit. The weak Fortuin-Kasteleyn-Ginibre property in this model and the Ghirlanda-Guerra identities in artificial models in a path integral representation based on the Lie-Trotter-Suzuki formula enable us to extend Chatterjee's proof for the random field Ising model to the quantum model.
