We prove that every simplicial automorphism of the free splitting graph of a free group of at least rank 3 is induced by an outer automorphism of the free group.
We show that, if $H$ is a random subgroup of a finitely generated free group $F_k$, only inner automorphisms of $F_k$ may leave $H$ invariant. A similar result holds for random subgroups of toral relatively hyperbolic groups, more generally of groups which are hyperbolic relative to slender subgroups. These results follow from non-existence of splittings over slender groups which are relative to a random group element. Random subgroups are defined using random walks or balls in a Cayley tree of $F_k$.
We show that an outer automorphism acts loxodromically on the cyclic splitting complex if and only if it has a filling lamination and no generic leaf of the lamination is carried by a vertex group of a cyclic splitting. This is the analog for the cyclic splitting complex of Handel-Mosher's theorem on loxodromics for the free splitting complex. We also show that such outer automorphisms have virtually cyclic centralizers.
Splittings and automorphisms of relatively hyperbolic groups
如果P是无挠的,那么Out(P to G)是VF类型的,特别是VF呈现的。
The JSJ decomposition encodes the automorphisms and the virtually cyclic splittings of a hyperbolic group. For general finitely presented groups, the JSJ decomposition encodes only their splittings. In this sequence of papers we study the automorphisms of a hierarchically hyperbolic group that satisfies some weak acylindricity conditions. To study these automorphisms we construct an object that can be viewed as a higher rank JSJ decomposition. In the first paper we demonstrate our construction in the case of a right angled Artin group. For studying automorphisms of a general HHG we construct w…
We prove that the minimally displaced set of a relatively irreducible automorphism of a free splitting, situated in a deformation space, is uniformly locally finite. The minimally displaced set coincides with the train track points for an irreducible automorphism. We develop the theory in a general setting of deformation spaces of free products, having in mind the study of the action of reducible automorphisms of a free group on the simplicial bordification of Outer Space. For instance, a reducible automorphism will have invariant free factors, act on the corresponding stratum of the bordifica…
The paper is intended to be a survey on some topics within the framework of automorphisms of a relatively free groups of infinite rank. We discuss such properties as tameness, primitivity, small index, Bergman property, and so on.
This is the first of two papers in which we investigate the properties of the displacement functions of automorphisms of free groups (more generally, free products) on Culler-Vogtmann Outer space and its simplicial bordification - the free splitting complex - with respect to the Lipschitz metric. The theory for irreducible automorphisms being well-developed, we concentrate on the reducible case. Since we deal with the bordification, we develop all the needed tools in the more general setting of deformation spaces, and their associated free splitting complexes. In the present paper we study the…
We show that word hyperbolicity of automorphism groups of graph products $G_Γ$ and of Coxeter groups $W_Γ$ depends strongly on the shape of the defining graph $Γ$. We also characterized those $Aut(G_Γ)$ and $Aut(W_Γ)$ in terms of $Γ$ that are virtually free.
We solve Dehn's isomorphism problem for virtually torsion-free relatively hyperbolic groups with nilpotent parabolic subgroups. We do so by reducing the isomorphism problem to three algorithmic problems in the parabolic subgroups, namely the isomorphism problem, separation of torsion (in their outer automorphism groups) by congruences, and the mixed Whitehead problem, an automorphism group orbit problem. The first step of the reduction is to compute canonical JSJ decompositions. Dehn fillings and the given solutions of the algorithmic problems in the parabolic groups are then used to decide if…
We study the automorphism group Aut(G) of a free product G of finite cyclic groups. We investigate the question in which cases Aut(G) has Serre's property FA. In the case of two or three free factors, we prove that Aut(G) does not have property FA. However, if each free factor of G occurs at least four times we show that Aut(G) does have property FA.
For a positive integer $n$, with $n \geq 4$, let $R_{n}$ be a free (nilpotent of class 2)-by-abelian and abelian-by-(nilpotent of class 2) Lie algebra of rank $n$. We show that the subgroup of Aut$(R_{n})$ generated by the tame automorphisms and a countably infinite set of explicitly given automorphisms of $R_{n}$ is dense in Aut$(R_{n})$ with respect to the formal power series topology.
In analogy with the free factors of a free group we define special factors of Generalized Baumslag-Solitar (GBS) groups as non-cyclic subgroups which appear in splittings over infinite cyclic groups. We give an algorithm which, given a GBS group $G$ and an element $g \in G$, decides whether there exists a special factor $H < G$ such that $g \in H$. This algorithm is analogous to an algorithm by Whitehead for free groups. Furthermore we prove that given $g \in G$ there exists a unique minimal special factor containing $g$ and give an algorithm which finds it.
