Bi2Se3 is one of a handful of known topological insulators. Here we show that copper intercalation in the van der Waals gaps between the Bi2Se3 layers, yielding an electron concentration of ~ 2 x 10^20cm-3, results in superconductivity at 3.8 K in CuxBi2Se3 for x between 0.12 and 0.15. This demonstrates that Cooper pairing is possible in Bi2Se3 at accessible temperatures, with implications for study of the physics of topological insulators and potential devices.
Single crystals of undoped CaFe2As2 were grown by a FeAs self-flux method, and the crystals were quenched in ice-water rapidly after high temperature growth. The quenched crystal undergoes a collapsed tetragonal structural phase transition around 80 K revealed by the temperature dependent X-ray diffraction measurements. Superconductivity below 25 K was observed in the collapsed phase by resistivity and magnetization measurements. The isothermal magnetization curve measured at 2 K indicates that this is a typical type-II superconductor. For comparison, we systematically characterized the proper…
The iron arsenide RbFe_2As_2 with the ThCr_2Si_2-type structure is found to be a bulk superconductor with T_c=2.6 K. The onset of diamagnetism was used to estimate the upper critical field H_c2(T), resulting in dH_c2/dT=-1.4 T/K and an extrapolated H_c2(0)=2.5 T. As a new representative of iron pnictide superconductors, superconducting RbFe_2As_2 contrasts with BaFe_2As_2, where the Fermi level is higher and a magnetic instability is observed. Thus, the solid solution series (Rb,Ba)Fe_2As_2 is a promising system to study the crossover from superconductivity to magnetism.
Undoped cuprates have long been considered to be antiferromagnetic insulators. In this article, however, we report that superconductivity is achieved in undoped T'-RE2CuO4 (RE = Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, and Gd). Our discovery was performed by using metal-organic decomposition (MOD), an inexpensive and easy-to-implement thin-film process. The keys to prepare the superconducting films are firing with low partial-pressure of oxygen and reduction at low temperatures. The highest Tc of undoped T'-RE2CuO4 is over 30 K, substantially higher than "electron-doped" analogs. Remarkably, Gd2CuO4, even the derivati…
We have recently achieved superconductivity in undoped T'-RE2CuO4 (RE: Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, and Gd), using epitaxial thin films by metal organic decomposition. The key recipes to achieve superconductivity are low-PO2 firing and subsequent vacuum reduction to minimize the amount of impurity oxygen atoms, which are very harmful to high-Tc superconductivity. In this article, we report our investigation on the reduction dependence of superconductivity of T'-RE2CuO4. For thin films, the amount of remnant Oap atoms is difficult to evaluate but we propose that one good measure for this may be the c-axis l…
We have systematically studied the transport properties of the La$_{2-x}$Y$_{x}$CuO$_{4}$(LYCO) films of T'-phase ($0.05\leq x \leq 0.30$). In this nominally "undoped" system, superconductivity was acquired in certain Y doping range ($0.10\leq x \leq 0.20$). Measurements of resistivity, Hall coefficients in normal states and resistive critical field ($H^ρ_{c2}$)in superconducting states of the T'-LYCO films show the similar behavior as the known Ce-doped n-type cuprate superconductors, indicating the intrinsic electron-doping nature. The charge carriers are induced by oxygen deficiency. Non-su…
In this article, we report the superconductivity in T'-RE2CuO4 (RE = Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, and Gd), which have been for a long time believed as a Mott insulator. Our discovery was achieved by using metal-organic decomposition (MOD), an inexpensive and easy-to-implement thin-film process. The keys to prepare the superconducting films are firing with low partial-pressure of oxygen and reduction at low temperatures. The highest Tc of undoped T'-RE2CuO4 is over 30 K, substantially higher than "electron-doped" analogs. Remarkably, Gd2CuO4, even the derivatives of which have not shown superconductivity so…
We have investigated the effects of magnetic Ni and nonmagnetic Zn impurities on the superconductivity in undoped T'-La$_{1.8}$Eu$_{0.2}$CuO$_4$ (T'-LECO) with the Nd$_2$CuO$_4$-type structure, using the polycrystalline bulk samples, to clarify the pairing symmetry. It has been found that both suppression rates of the superconducting transition temperature $T_\mathrm{c}$ by Ni and Zn impurities are nearly the same and are very similar to those in the optimally doped and overdoped regimes of hole-doped T-La$_{2-x}$Sr$_{x}$CuO$_4$ with the K$_2$NiF$_4$-type structure. These results strongly sugg…
Fe-based superconductors exhibit a diverse interplay between charge, orbital, and magnetic ordering1-4. Variations in atomic geometry affect electron hopping between Fe atoms5,6 and the Fermi surface topology, influencing magnetic frustration and the pairing mechanism through changes of orbital overlap and occupancies7-11. Here, we experimentally demonstrate a systematic approach to realize superconductivity without chemical doping in BaFe2As2, employing geometric design within an epitaxial heterostructure. We control both tetragonality and orthorhombicity in BaFe2As2 through superlattice engi…
The Meissner effect has been directly demonstrated by depth-resolved muon spin rotation measurements in high-quality thin films of the T'-structured cuprate, T'-La$_{1.9}$Y$_{0.1}$CuO$_4$, to confirm bulk superconductivity ($T_c\simeq21$ K) in its {\sl undoped} state. The gradual expelling of an external magnetic field is observed over a depth range of $\sim$100 nm in films with a thickness of 275(15) nm, from which the penetration depth is deduced to be 466(22) nm. Based on this result, we argue that the true ground state of the "parent" compound of the $n$-type cuprates is not a Mott insulat…
Unlike the widely studied ReFeAsO series, the newly discovered iron-based superconductor ThFeAsN exhibits a remarkably high critical temperature of 30 K, without chemical doping or external pressure. Here we investigate in detail its magnetic and superconducting properties via muon-spin rotation/relaxation ($μ$SR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques and show that ThFeAsN exhibits strong magnetic fluctuations, suppressed below 35 K, but no magnetic order. This contrasts strongly with the ReFeAsO series, where stoichiometric parent materials order antiferromagnetically and supercondu…
Emergent superconductivity is strongly correlated with the symmetry of local atomic configuration in the parent compounds of iron-based superconductors. While chemical doping or hydrostatic pressure can change the local geometry, these conventional approaches do not provide a clear pathway in tuning the detailed atomic arrangement predictably, due to the parent compounds complicated structural deformation in the presence of the tetragonal-to-orthorhombic phase transition. Here, we demonstrate a systematic approach to manipulate the local structural configurations in BaFe2As2 epitaxial thin fil…
The possibility of superconductivity in doped and undoped triangular antiferromagnets is discussed. Using the Bethe-Salpeter (B-S) equation, it is shown that the exchange of RPA paramagnons on a triangular lattice Hubbard model leads to strong pairing correlations at and near half-filling. The dominant states for this system correspond to d-wave singlet (even-frequency) and s-wave triplet (odd-frequency) pairing. Analytical techniques applied to the hole-doped t-J model yield similar results. A t_1-t_2 Hubbard model interpolating between square (t_1=0) and triangular (t_1=t_2) lattices has a t…
We present a study concerning the partial substitution of yttrium at the lanthanum site of the undoped LaFeAsO and superconducting LaFeAsO0.85F0.15 compounds. We prepared samples with a nominal yttrium content up to 70% producing simultaneous shrinkage of both the a- and c-lattice parameters by 1.8% and 1.7%, respectively. The chemical pressure provided by the partial substitution with this smaller ion size causes a lowering of the spin density wave temperature in the undoped compounds, as well as an increase of the superconducting transition temperatures in the doped ones. The 15% fluorine-do…
In previous work in undoped MFe2As2, partial drops in the resistivity indicative of traces of superconductivity have been observed in some samples of M=Ba (Tc ~ 20 K, up to 25% drop in resistivity) and M=Ca (Tc ~ 10 K, up to 45 % drop in resistivity.) A complete drop in the resistivity to 0, along with a finite fraction of Meissner flux expulsion, has been observed in M=Sr, Tc = 22 K. Using In-flux grown single crystal samples of undoped BaFe2As2, we find a complete drop in the resistivity to 0 in most samples beginning at Tc(onset) = 22.5 K. However, in contrast to the SrFe2As2 results, there…
In this review article, we show our recent results relating to the undoped (Ce-free) superconductivity in the electron-doped high-Tc cuprates with the so-called T' structure. For an introduction, we briefly mention the characteristics of the electron-doped T'-cuprates, including the reduction annealing, conventional phase diagram and undoped superconductivity. Then, our transport and magnetic results and results relating to the superconducting pairing symmetry of the undoped and underdoped T'-cuprates are shown. Collaborating spectroscopic and nuclear magnetic resonance results are also shown …
High-temperature iron-based superconductivity develops in a structure with unusual lattice-orbital geometry, based on a planar layer of Fe atoms with 3d orbitals and tetrahedrally coordinated by anions. Here we elucidate the electronic role of anions in the iron-based superconductors utilizing state-of-the-art scanning tunneling microscopy. By measuring the local electronic structure, we find that As anion in Ba0.4K0.6Fe2As2 has a striking impact on the electron pairing. The superconducting electronic feature can be switched off/on by removing/restoring As atoms on Fe layer at the atomic scale…
Motivated by the possible non-spin-singlet superconductivity in the magic-angle twisted trilayer graphene experiment, we investigate the triplet-pairing superconductivity arising from a correlation-induced spin-fermion model on a honeycomb lattice. We find that the $f$-wave pairing is favored due to the valley-sublattice structure, and the superconducting state is time-reversal symmetric, fully gapped, and non-topological. With a small in-plane magnetic field, the superconducting state becomes partially polarized, and the transition temperature can be slightly enhanced. Our results apply quali…
The superconducting state in uranium compounds UGe2, URhGe and UCoGe is formed at temperatures far below the Curie temperature pointing on nonconventional nature of superconductivity in these materials - namely the superconductivity with triplet pairing. The emergence of superconductivity is accompanied by the slight magnetization expulsion typical for the type-II superconductors. Following classic Abrikosov paper I develop the theory of type-II superconductivity in application to two-band ferromagnetic metal with equal spin triplet pairing.
Nodal superconductivity is observed in LiFeP while its counterpart LiFeAs with similar topology and orbital content of the Fermi surfaces is a nodeless superconductor. We explain this difference by solving, in the two-Fe Brillouin zone, the frequency-dependent Eliashberg equations with spin-fluctuation mediated pairing interaction. Because of Fermi surface topology details, in LiFeAs all the Fe-$t_{2g}$ orbitals favor a common pairing symmetry. By contrast, in LiFeP the $d_{xy}$ orbital favors a pairing symmetry different from $d_{xz/yz}$ and their competition determines the pairing symmetry a…
In order to realize superconductivity in cuprates with the T'-type structure, not only chemical substitution (Ce doping) but also post-growth reduction annealing is necessary. In the case of thin films, however, well-designed reduction annealing alone without Ce doping can induce superconductivity in the T'-type cuprates. In order to unveil the origin of superconductivity in the Ce-undoped T'-type cuprates, we have performed bulk-sensitive hard x-ray photoemission and soft x-ray absorption spectroscopies on superconducting and non-superconducting Nd$_{2-x}$Ce$_x$CuO$_4$ ($x=$ 0, 0.15, and 0.19…
The Ca10(PtnAs8)(Fe2As2)5 (n=3,4) compounds are a new type of iron pnictide superconductors whose structures consist of stacking Ca-PtnAs8-Ca-Fe2As2 layers in a unit cell. When n=3 (the 10-3-8 phase), the undoped compound is an antiferromagnetic (AFM) semiconductor, while, when n=4 (the 10-4-8 phase), the undoped compound is a superconductor with the transition temperature of 26K. Here we report the results of high-pressure studies on the 10-3-8 compound obtained through a combination of in-situ resistance, magnetic susceptibility, and Hall coefficient measurements. We find that its AFM order …
We have synthesized a novel europium bismuth sulfofluoride, Eu3Bi2S4F4, by solid-state reactions in sealed evacuated quartz ampoules. The compound crystallizes in a tetragonal lattice (space group I4/mmm, a = 4.0771(1) A, c = 32.4330(6) A, and Z = 2), in which CaF2-type Eu3F4 layers and NaCl-like BiS2 bilayers stack alternately along the crystallographic c axis. There are two crystallographically distinct Eu sites, Eu(1) and Eu(2) at the Wyckoff positions 4e and 2a, respectively. Our bond-valence-sum calculation, based on the refined structural data, indicates that Eu(1) is essentially divalen…
Tunneling data on MgB_{1.8}C_{0.2} show a reduction in the energy gap of the pi-bands by a factor of two from undoped MgB2 that is consistent with the Tc reduction, but inconsistent with the expectations of the dirty limit. Dirty-limit theory for undoped MgB2 predicts a single gap about three times larger than measured and a reduced Tc comparable to that measured. Our heavily-doped samples exhibit a uniform dispersion of C suggestive of significantly enhanced scattering, and we conclude that the retention of two-band superconductivity in these samples is caused by a selective suppression of in…
A two-orbital model for Fe-pnictide superconductors is investigated using computational techniques on two-dimensional square clusters. The hopping amplitudes are derived from orbital overlap integrals, or by band structure fits, and the spin frustrating effect of the plaquette-diagonal Fe-Fe hopping is remarked. A spin 'striped' state is stable in a broad range of couplings in the undoped regime, in agreement with neutron scattering. Adding two electrons to the undoped ground state of a small cluster, the dominant pairing operators are found. Depending on parameters, two pairing operators were…
The origin of interband electron pairing responsible for enhancing superconductivity and the factors controlling its strength were examined. We show that the interband electron pairing is a natural consequence of breaking down the Born-Oppenheimer approximation during the electron-phonon interactions. Its strength is determined by the pair-state excitations around the Fermi surfaces that take place to form a superconducting state. Fermi surfaces favorable for the pairing were found and its implications were discussed.
Since the proposal of monopole Cooper pairing in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 120, 067003 (2018)], considerable research efforts have been dedicated to the study of Cooper pairing order parameters constrained (or obstructed) by the nontrivial normal-state band topology at Fermi surfaces in 3D systems. In the current work, we generalize the topologically obstructed pairings between Chern states (like the monopole Cooper pairing) by proposing Euler obstructed Cooper pairing in 3D systems. The Euler obstructed Cooper pairing widely exists between two Fermi surfaces with nontrivial band topology characterize…
Starting from the linearized BdG-equation we make the simple observation that pairing can occur between particles with total momenta different from zero, e.g., with equal momentum and opposite spin, in cases of an effective interaction acting in the center-of-mass coordinates.
A model interaction is proposed in which pairing is caused by a non-local Jahn-Teller (JT) -like instability due to the coupling between planar O states and knot equal to 0 phonons. Apart from pairing, the interaction is found to naturally allow metallic stripe formation. The consequences of the model for superconductivity in the cuprates are discussed. The model is shown to be consistent with numerous sets of experimental data in quite some detail.

In the BCS theory of superconductivity, one assumes that all Cooper pairs have the same center of mass momentum. This is indeed enforced by self consistency, if the pairing interaction is momentum independent. Here, we show that for an attractive nearest neighbor interaction, this is different. In this case, stable solutions with pairs with momenta q and -q coexist and, for a sufficiently strong interaction, one of these states becomes the groundstate of the superconductor. This finite-momentum pairing state is accompanied by a charge order with wave vector 2q. For a weak pairing interaction, …
Pairing symmetry in the superconducting state coexisting with antiferromagnetic order is studied based on a microscopic theory. We calculate the linearized Eliashberg's equation within the random phase approximation in the Hubbard model with a staggered field. We find that odd-frequency spin-triplet (equal-spin) s-wave pairing state can be realized. This result contradicts a naive expectation that antiferromagnetic order induces antiferromagnetic spin fluctuation and favors spin-singlet d-wave pairing as in the standard strongly correlated systems.
The existence of topological superconductors preserving time-reversal symmetry was recently predicted, and they are expected to provide a solid-state realization of itinerant massless Majorana fermions and a route to topological quantum computation. Their first concrete example, CuxBi2Se3, was discovered last year, but the search for new materials has so far been hindered by the lack of guiding principle. Here, we report point-contact spectroscopy experiments showing that the low-carrier-density superconductor Sn_{1-x}In_{x}Te is accompanied with surface Andreev bound states which, with the he…
Undoped LaFeAsO, parent compound of the newly found high-Tc superconductor, exhibits a sharp decrease in the temperature-dependent resistivity at ~160 K. The anomaly can be suppressed by F doping and the superconductivity appears correspondingly, suggesting a close associate of the anomaly with the superconductivity. We examined the crystal structures, magnetic properties and superconductivity of undoped (normal conductor) and 14 at.% F-doped LaFeAsO (Tc = 20 K) by synchrotron X-ray diffraction, DC magnetic measurements, and ab initio calculations to demonstrate that the anomaly is associated …
A generalization of the Cooper pairing mechanism is proposed which allows for a triplet state of lower energy. This is achieved by incorporating spin into the canonical commutation relations and by modifying the $δ$ potential contact interaction. The gap equation contain as solutions both singlet and triplet states. It is shown that the triplet state is lower in energy than the singlet state which may explain the spin-triplet superconductivity observed in heavy fermion compound UPt3 and in Sr$_2$RuO$_4$.

The search for superconductivity with higher transition temperature ($T_C$) has long been a challenge in research efforts ever since its first discovery in 1911. The effort has led to the discovery of various kinds of superconductors and progress in the understanding of this intriguing phenomenon. The increase of $T_C$ has also evolved; however, the dream of realizing room-temperature superconductivity is far from reality. For superconductivity to emerge, the effective quasiparticle interaction should overcome the repulsive Coulomb interaction. This can be realized via lattice or spin degrees …
High-Tc superconductivity in layered cuprates is described in a BCS-BEC formalism with linearly-dispersive s- and d-wave Cooper pairs moving in quasi-2D finite-width layers about the CuO_2 planes. This yields a closed formula for Tc determined by the layer width, the Debye frequency, the pairing energy, and the in-plane penetration depth. The new formula reasonably reproduces empirical values of superconducting Tc's for seven different compounds among the LSCO, YBCO, BSCCO and TBCCO layered cuprates.
We study superconductivity in spin-orbit-coupled systems in the vicinity of inversion symmetry breaking. We find that due to the presence of spin-orbit coupling, fluctuations of the incipient parity-breaking order generate an attractive pairing interaction in an odd-parity pairing channel, which competes with the s-wave pairing. We show that applying a Zeeman field suppresses the s-wave pairing and promotes the odd-parity superconducting state. Our work provides a new mechanism for odd-parity pairing and opens a route to novel topological superconductivity.
In our recent paper entitled "Pairing mechanism of high-temperature superconductivity: Experimental constraints" (to be published in Physica Scripta, arXiv:1012.2368), we review some crucial experiments that place strong constraints on the microscopic pairing mechanism of high-temperature superconductivity in cuprates. In particular, we show that phonons rather than spin-fluctuation play a predominant role in the microscopic pairing mechanism. We further show that the intrinsic pairing symmetry in the bulk is not d-wave, but extended s-wave (having eight line nodes) in hole-doped cuprates and …
It is argued that electron density dynamic's response to phonons at the Brillouin zone boundary is the key factor in the superconductivity mechanism of MgB2 as well as of all superconducting compounds leading to a real space electron-hole pairing characterized by CP symmetry (Charge and Parity symmetries) that enables a unified description of superconductivity phenomenon.First principle calculation of the electron density difference is determined by subtracting the electron density of the crystal distorted by longitudinal acoustical phonons at the Brillouin zone boundary from that of the perfe…
Single-layer FeSe films grown on the SrTiO3 substrate (FeSe/STO) have attracted much attention because of their possible record-high superconducting critical temperature Tc and distinct electronic structures in iron-based superconductors. However, it has been under debate on how high its Tc can really reach due to the inconsistency of the results obtained from the transport, magnetic and spectroscopic measurements. Here we report spectroscopic evidence of superconductivity pairing at 83 K in single-layer FeSe/STO films. By preparing high-quality single-layer FeSe/STO films, we observe for the …

SrTiO$_3$ is a superconducting semiconductor with a pairing mechanism that is not well understood. SrTiO$_3$ undergoes a ferroelastic transition at $T=$ 105 K, leading to the formation of domains with boundaries that can couple to electronic properties. At two-dimensional SrTiO$_3$ interfaces, the orientation of these ferroelastic domains is known to couple to the electron density, leading to electron-rich regions that favor out-of-plane distortions and electron-poor regions that favor in-plane distortion. Here we show that ferroelastic domain walls support low energy excitations that are anal…
By means of first-principles calculations, we predict two new types of partially hydrogenated graphene systems: C$_{6}$H$_{1}$ and C$_{6}$H$_{5}$, which are shown to be ferromagnetic (FM) semimetal and FM narrow-gap semiconductor, respectively. When properly doped, the Fermi surface of the two systems consists of an electron pocket or six hole patches in the first Brillouin zone with completely spin-polarized charge carries. If superconductivity exists in these systems, the stable pairing symmetries are shown to be $p+ip$ for electron doped case, and anisotropic $p+ip$ for hole doped case. The…
We consider a model for superconductivity in a two-band superconductor, having an anisotropic electronic structure made of two partially overlapping bands with a first hole-like and a second electron-like fermi surface. In this pairing scenario, driven by the interplay between interband $V_{i,j}$ and intraband $V_{i,i}$ pairing terms, we have solved the two gap equations at the critical temperature $T = T_c$ and calculate $T_c$ and the chemical potential $μ$ as a function of the number of carriers $n$ for various values of pairing interactions, $V_{1,1}$, $V_{2,2}$, and $V_{1,2}$. The results …
The model of local electron pairs and itinerant fermions coupled via charge exchange mechanism, which mutually induces superconductivity in both subsystems is studied for anisotropic pairing symmetry. The phase diagram is presented and the phase fluctuations effects are analyzed within the Kosterlitz-Thouless scenario.
Recent experiments indicate that superconductivity in Bi$_2$Se$_3$ intercalated with Cu, Nb or Sr is nematic with rotational symmetry breaking. Motivated by this observation, we present a model study of nematic and chiral superconductivity induced by odd-parity fluctuations. We show that odd-parity fluctuations in the two-component $E_u$ representation of $D_{3d}$ crystal point group can generate attractive interaction in both the even-parity $s$-wave and odd-parity $E_u$ pairing channels, but repulsive interaction in other odd-parity pairing channels. Coulomb repulsion can suppress $s$-wave p…
We study the pairing symmetry of a doped Kane-Mele model on a honeycomb lattice with on-site Coulomb interaction. The pairing instability of Cooper pair is calculated based on the linearized Eliashberg equation within the random phase approximation (RPA). When the magnitude of the spin-orbit coupling is weak, even-frequency spin-singlet even-parity (ESE) pairing is dominant. On the other hand, with the increase of the spin-orbit coupling, we show that the even-frequency spin-triplet odd-parity (ETO) f-wave pairing exceeds ESE one. ETO f-wave pairing is supported by the longitudinal spin fluctu…
We show that the phase information contained in coherent phonon oscillations generated by a laser pulse in a multi- orbital superconductor can be used as an experimental tool to probe super- conductivity and pairing symmetries. The phase difference between the normal and superconducting states is proportional to the superconducting order parameter just below the superconducting transition temperature, Tc. It also exhibits different behaviors for superconducting states with different pairing symmetries. In particular, if there is an orbital-dependent internal sign change state, the phase differ…
I present a microscopic theory I proposed recently to describe high-T_c superconductivity in cuprates. I show that coherent pairing states consisting of extended singlet Cooper pairs and triplet $π$ pairs can manifest both the Mott insulating antiferromagnetic order and the d-wave superconducting order. From this configuration of coherent pairing states, I can describe both the single electron properties and the low energy collective excitations in high T_c superconductivity in the same framework. The quasiparticle can be derived directly with respect to the coherent pairing states. While, the…
We examine superconductivity in LaAlO$_3$/SrTiO$_3$ channels in which the channel width transitions from the 1D to 2D regime. The superconducting critical current is independent of the channel width and increases approximately linearly with the number of parallel channels. Signatures of electron pairing outside of the superconducting phase are also independent of channel width. Collectively, these results indicate that electron pairing and superconductivity exist at the boundary of these channels and are absent within the interior region of the channels. The intrinsic 1D nature of superconduct…
Cooper's one pair problem is investigated for a 2D lattice in the background of both passive and active Fermi sea in a weakly correlated environment. Boson exchange mechanisms involving excitons as well as phonons are invoked for pairing in the s- wave channel. The important quantities calculated are pairing energy and coherence length as functions of bosonic energy, attracted coupling constant and band filling factor. Comparison of our theoretical results with those from experiments on overdoped cuprate superconductors and other type of theoretical calculations show electronic mechanism to be…
It is shown that charge ordering in layered crystalline metals causes an increase in the normal state energy of the conducting layers. If this increase in the energy exceeds the difference between the superconducting state energy and the normal state energy of the metal, then the superconducting transition occurs. A relation between the charge gap in the superconducting phase and the bandgap width in the undoped insulating phase of high-temperature superconductors is obtained.
We investigate the influence of critical spin fluctuations on electromagnetic responses in the odd-frequency superconductivity. It is shown that the Meissner kernel of the odd-frequency superconductivity is strongly reduced by the critical spin fluctuation or the massless spin wave mode in the antiferromagnetic phase. These results imply that the superfluid density is reduced, and the London penetration depth is lengthened for the odd-frequency pairing. It is also shown that the zero field Flude-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov pairing is spontaneously realized both for even- and odd-frequency in th…
