We show that a realisation of spectral flow as a coordinate transformation for asymptotically four-dimensional solutions can be extended to the non-supersymmetric case. We apply this transformation to smooth geometries describing microstates of the D1-D5-KK monopole system in type IIB supergravity compactified on a six-torus, and obtain solutions with an additional momentum charge. We study the supersymmetric and near-core limits of this construction.
We systematically study all supersymmetric solutions of six-dimensional (2,0) supergravity with a null isometry. In particular, every such solution with at least four real supersymmetries is also a supersymmetric solution of a (1,0) theory preserving the same absolute amount of supersymmetry. This implies that no genuinely new solutions of this type can be found in this framework. The microstate geometries associated to supersymmetric black holes within Mathur's proposal are generically supersymmetric solutions of six-dimensional supergravity. A direct consequence of our result is that supersy…
We revisit the study of the probe scalar quasinormal modes of a class of three-charge supersymmetric microstate geometries. We compute the real and imaginary parts of the quasinormal modes and show that in the parameter range when the geometries have large AdS region, the spectrum is precisely reproduced from a D1-D5 orbifold CFT analysis. The spectrum includes the slow decaying modes pointed out by Eperon, Reall, and Santos. We analyse in detail the nature of the quasinormal modes by studying the scalar wavefunction. We show that these modes correspond to slow leakage of excitation from AdS t…
This thesis focuses mainly on understanding the origin of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy for a class of four- and five-dimensional BPS black holes in string/M-theory. To this aim, important ingredients are holography and supersymmetric localization. Using the method of supersymmetric localization, the Euclidean path integrals for supersymmetric field theories on $Σ_\mathfrak{g} \times T^{n}$ $(n=1,2)$, with at least four real supercharges, can be reduced to a matrix integral that depends on background magnetic fluxes and chemical potentials for the global symmetries of the theory. This defines…

Gravitational solutions involving shockwaves have attracted significant recent interest in the context of black holes and quantum chaos. Certain classes of supersymmetric two-charge black hole microstates are described by supergravity solutions containing shockwaves, that are horizonless and smooth away from the shockwave. These configurations have been used to describe how black hole microstates absorb and scramble perturbations. In this paper we construct the first family of asymptotically flat supersymmetric three-charge microstate solutions that contain shockwaves. We identify a family of …
We provide a universal microscopic counting for the microstates of the asymptotically AdS black holes and black strings that arise as solutions of the half-maximal gauged supergravity in four and five dimensions. These solutions can be embedded in all M-theory and type II string backgrounds with an AdS vacuum and sixteen supercharges and provide an infinite set of examples dual to $\mathcal{N}=2$ and $\mathcal{N}=4$ conformal field theories in four and three dimensions, respectively. The counting is universal and it is performed by either studying the large $N$ limit of the relevant supersymme…
We construct a family of non-supersymmetric extremal black holes and their horizonless microstate geometries in four dimensions. The black holes can have finite angular momentum and an arbitrary charge-to-mass ratio, unlike their supersymmetric cousins. These features make them and their microstate geometries astrophysically relevant. Thus, they provide interesting prototypes to study deviations from Kerr solutions caused by new horizon-scale physics. In this paper, we compute the gravitational multipole structure of these solutions and compare them to Kerr black holes. The multipoles of the b…
We analyse models of Matrix Quantum Mechanics in the double scaling limit that contain non-singlet states. The finite temperature partition function of such systems contains non-trivial winding modes (vortices) and is expressed in terms of a group theoretic sum over representations. We then focus in the case when the first winding mode is dominant (model of Kazakov-Kostov-Kutasov). In the limit of large representations (continuous Young diagrams), and depending on the values of the parameters of the model such as the compactification radius and the string coupling, the dual geometric backgroun…
We present the construction of several microstate geometries of the supersymmetric D1-D5-P black hole in which, within six-dimensional supergravity, the momentum charge is carried by a vector field. The fully backreacted geometries are smooth and horizonless: They are asymptotically AdS$_3 \times S^3$ with an AdS$_2$ throat that smoothly caps off. We propose a holographic dual for these bulk solutions and discuss their extension to asymptotically flat space. In addition, we present several uplifts of the full six-dimensional supersymmetric ansatz to ten-dimensions. In particular, we show that …
The study of non-supersymmetric black hole microstates offers the potential to resolve the black hole information paradox. A system of equations was recently obtained that enables the systematic construction of non-supersymmetric smooth horizonless supergravity solutions, that are candidates to describe microstates of non-extremal black holes. Within this system we construct a family of six-dimensional supergravity solutions that feature two topologically-nontrivial three-cycles known as bolts. The two bolts touch at a single point and are supported by fluxes. We find that the fluxes on the tw…
Spectral properties in supersymmetric matrix models

A supertube is a supersymmetric configuration in string theory which occurs when a pair of branes spontaneously polarizes and generates a new dipole charge extended along a closed curve. The dipole charge of a codimension-2 supertube is characterized by the U-duality monodromy as one goes around the supertube. For multiple codimension-2 supertubes, their monodromies do not commute in general. In this paper, we construct a supersymmetric solution of five-dimensional supergravity that describes two supertubes with such non-Abelian monodromies, in a certain perturbative expansion. In supergravity…
The late-time behavior of spectral form factor (SFF) encodes the inherent discreteness of a quantum system, which should be generically non-vanishing. We study an index analog of the microcanonical spectrum form factor in four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory. In the large $N$ limit and at large enough energy, the most dominant saddle corresponds to the black hole in the AdS bulk. This gives rise to the slope that decreases exponentially for a small imaginary chemical potential, which is a natural analog of an early time. We find that the `late-time' behavior is governed by …
Spectral Degeneracy in Supersymmetric Gluodynamics and One-Flavor QCD related to N=1/2 SUSY
The confluent second-order supersymmetric quantum mechanics, in which the factorization energies tend to a common value, is used to generate Hamiltonians with known spectra departing from the hyperbolic Rosen-Morse and Eckart potentials. The possible spectral modifications, as to create a new level or to delete a given one, as well as the isospectral transformations, are discussed.
The resolvent of supersymmetric Dirac Hamiltonian is studied in detail. Due to supersymmetry the squared Dirac Hamiltonian becomes block-diagonal whose elements are in essence non-relativistic Schrödinger-type Hamiltonians. This enables us to find a Feynman-type path-integral representation of the resulting Green's functions. In addition, we are also able to express the spectral properties of the supersymmetric Dirac Hamiltonian in terms of those of the non-relativistic Schrödinger Hamiltonians. The methods are explicitly applied to the free Dirac Hamiltonian, the so-called Dirac oscillator an…
